PUBG Mobile Lite v0140 update adds bombing zones, emotes and more
PUBG Mobile Lite, the smaller and lighter version of PUBG Mobile has been updated to version 0.14.0. As one might expect, the update adds a bunch of new features and fixes. Here’s the changelog of the new update:
New WP theme and rewards New outfits added Updated system settings Added customization guide Added emotes Improved UI & update pack size Improved graphics Battle parameters improved Increased accuracy of RPG-7 Added bombing zonesThe addition of emotes as well as new outfits should make the game more similar to the standard version of PUBG Mobile. It should also be noted that the game will now feature bombing zones, which should add a new layer of strategy to the game. It should be noted that PUBG Mobile Lite features a much smaller map. As such, it should make the red zone much more dangerous.
We also noted a new more additions that weren’t a part of the changelog. The main menu now features a pickup truck in the background. Currently, the game only offers a smaller version of Erangel for players to play on. Considering the fact that the pickup truck is unique to the Miramar map, it is possible that the developers may add a smaller version of the desert map to PUBG Mobile Lite soon.
Further, there is now an option for ‘Beta’ on the map selection screen. But that is locked for now. It is not yet confirmed how the beta will function, but judging be the current PUBG Mobile Beta. It will give players and developers to try out new features before they are made available to everyone else.
Finally, loot drop locations are now shown on the map from the moment it releases from the plane. This means that everyone will now know exactly will the loot crate will drop, even before it lands. This makes rushing the crate a risky choice considering the fact that they may get ambushed at any time.

OnePlus TV is an Android TV with built-in Chromecast
OnePlus has revealed just a little bit more about its plans for their upcoming TV. According to a statement released by the company, OnePlus TV is an Android TV with built-in Chromecast. The company also said that the TV will come with Google’s Play Store baked in, with the goal of elevating the smart TV experience in India. The company had already revealed the official logo, confirming that a TV was on the way.
OnePlus has apparently been working closely with Google in its aim to be the company that provides a connected home solution for all. Towards this end, the OnePlus TV will support Google Assistant, built-in Chromecast and thus, will allow users to access their favourite media, get answers from Google on-screen like weather updates, manage tasks like seeing your calendar, and control smart home devices; all with their voice.
Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India said, “These past five years have been about constant exploration, diving deep into how best we can use technology and innovation and Google has been strategic to us in India since the beginning, furthering our efforts towards our goal. Now, as we venture into newer segments with OnePlus TV, we are very excited to bring together our collective knowledge by extending that work. We believe that with our combined expertise, we can move ever closer to improve the human experience through simplicity, efficiency, and intelligent functionality.”
OnePlus hopes to provide a connected solution for the homes of the future and are working closely with Google to close the gaps that currently exist. It is interesting to see OnePlus pivot from being a “smartphone company” to a “smart devices” company. The OnePlus TV is the next highly anticipated device from the company that started with the goal of “never settle.”
There aren’ many official details available about the upcoming OnePlus TV, but we expect it to be a 55-inch QLED panel with 4K resolution. The TV is also said to be India Exclusive and will go on sale on Amazon.in once it is announced.

Apple iPhone trio details leak, may support reverse wireless charging and Apple Pencil
With just ten more days to go before their official announcement, it would appear that the specifications for the iPhone trio have leaked in full. The three phones will be called the Apple iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This is in line with previous rumours that suggested that Apple would go with the Pro moniker for this year’s iPhones.
The first phone in this year’s lineup is rumoured to be the iPhone 11, the direct successor to the iPhone XR. According to the leaked specs, it would come with a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1792x828. The phone is expected to sport a glass design and come packing a 3110mAh battery. This time around, rumours suggest that the iPhone 11 would come with dual 12-megapixel cameras on the rear.
The next is the Pro duo, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. These phones are expected to have a 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED display respectively. Camera duties will be spread across three shooters, each with a 12megapixel sensor, although we’re not sure what the lens configuration will be like. An educated guess points towards the possibility of Apple finally adding an ultra-wide-angle lens to its existing camera stack. The two Pro models are expected to bring support for the Apple Pencil, reverse wireless charging and a frost glass design.
Sadly, the iPhone 11 won’t get reverse charging or the Apple Pencil support, but all three phones, according to the leak, will support WiFi 6. While the iPhone 11 will sport 4GB RAM and the Pro models 6GB of RAM, all three phones will be powered by Apple’s new A13 SoC.
Apple’s keynote is scheduled for September 10, according to the invite that the company had sent out a few days earlier. We have come to expect leaks to be more or less reliable so close to the launch. However, it is best to take everything with a pinch of salt and wait to hear everything from the horse’s mouth directly on September 10.

Samsung Galaxy A90 leak suggests 5G support
Samsung has been rather ambitious abut its smartphone roadmap this year, having launched as many phones this year as months. After announcing the Samsung Galaxy A80, and bringing it to market a little later than expected, rumuors around the next phone in the A-series have started to pick up. It would appear that the next product in the A-series will be the Samsung Galaxy A90 and will support 5G.
Twitter user @mmddj_ has tweeted official-looking slides that allegedly promote the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G. The image shows a white colour smartphone with a triple camera setup on the back aligned vertically to the left. This means that the rotating concept for the camera is not making a comeback no the A90 5G.
The Samsung Galaxy A90 5G is rumoured to be a 6.7-inch smartphone with an AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. The primary camera on the back is expected to be a 48MP shooter, accompanied by an 8MPO ultra-wide camera and a third 5MP sensor which is likely to be for collecting depth information.
What is really interesting is that based on a Geekbench listing, the Samsung Galaxy A90 would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, making it the most powerful smartphone in the A-series. If this is indeed true, this would be the first Samsung smartphone to be sold globally with a flagship QUALCOMM SoC, given that Samsung’s flagship phones ship with Exynos in most countries around the world. Samsung could be going with the Snapdragon 855 chipset for the 5G radio compatibility.
As of now, there is no official word on when the Samsung Galaxy A90 would be making its way to the market.

Gmail gets new easy account switching gesture on Android
Before rolling out new gestures with the Android 10 update, Google has been subtly updating its apps with gestural navigation. Now, the tech giant has updated Gmail for Android with an easy account switching gesture that is making users with multiple Google accounts very happy. It also updated the Google Drive app earlier this week, and added a similar feature. The same gesture feature was also rolled out to Google Maps, recently.
Instead of opening the menu and selecting another account, users with multiple accounts can now simply slide up or slide down on the account profile icon in the top corner to switch between accounts. This new feature helps make the always present user avatar that identifies what account you’re using even more useful.
The switch-to-switch gesture first appeared in Google Maps. It then made its way to Google Drive, and the Google Contacts app. While Drive has a sliding cards animation on switching accounts, Gmail does not have that kind of animation.
It is worth noting that the very useful fast-switching feature has been available on iOS for quite sometime now.
The 2019.08.18 build of Gmail for Android also brings some signs of an upcoming dark mode. Google will be introducing a system-wide dark mode with Android 10. Hence, Gmail interface for Android is expected to get a dark interface soon too. However, right now, the widget and splash screen now match system dark mode, but the main interface remains white.
9To5Google has spotted, “If the system-level Dark Theme is enabled on Android 10 (Night mode on Pie), the widget switches to a dark gray background. Meanwhile, the folder name and compose email button adopts a very light shade of red.”
Gmail for Android switch gesture is now rolling out via the Play Store. If it is yet to appear for you then you can also download the new version from APK Mirror.

Asus quietly launches ROG Zephyrus G GA502 gaming laptop at Rs 99,990
Just a couple of months after launching the ROG Zephyrus M GU502 gaming laptop in India at Rs 1,42,990, Asus is dropping what appears to be a more affordable version of the same. Without any fuss or fanfare, Asus quietly launched the ROG Zephyrus G GA502 in India today at a price of Rs 99,990. Asus’ new gaming laptop is currently available on Flipkart with cashback offers on HDFC Bank debit cards and Flipkart Axis Bank credit cards.
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card with 6GB of video RAM. System RAM is 16GB and storage is taken care of by a 512GB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. The RAM is upgradeable to 32GB and there’s an additional empty M.2 slot for a second solid-state drive. The display on the laptop is a 15.6-inch IPS LCD panel with a Full HD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
Going by the pictures attached with the press release, the ROG Zephyrus G GA502 is a spitting image of the ROG Zephyrus M GU502. We expect the Taiwanese laptop manufacturer to have changed only the internals of the new Zephyrus. In our review of the ROG Zephyrus M GU502, we noted that, with its Intel 9th Gen Core i7 CPU—combined with the same Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card—the laptop was ideal for everyday computing and gaming. You can read more about the Asus ROG Zephyrus M GU502 here.
Though only a full review of Asus’ new gaming laptop will give us all the details, it’s easy to see how Asus was able to make the ROG Zephyrus G GA502 more affordable than its 'M' counterpart. Apart from the obvious switch in the CPU, Asus has made small but critical changes in the display and keyboard departments. While the 1.9-kilogramme ROG Zephyrus M GU502 employs a 144Hz 3ms PANTONE-validated IPS LCD panel, the 2.1-kilogramme ROG Zephyrus G GA502 gets a 120Hz IPS LCD panel with no claim of covering 100 percent of the colours in the sRGB colour space. The keyboard has also ditched RGB backlighting for a single (white) colour backlighting under the keys. Stay tuned for a proper review.

New Windows 10 tablet experience aimed at 2-in-1 devices unveiled by Microsoft
Microsoft has released the Windows 10 20H1 preview build today. It is available to only to "Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.” The build number 18970 adds several notable features. It is aimed at enhancing the touch experience on 2-in-1 convertible PCs. The new update allows users to enter the tablet mode and stay in the familiar desktop experience without interruption.
A few key improvements include:
Increased spacing between Taskbar icons. Search box on taskbar collapsed into an icon. File Explorer switches to touch optimized layout. Touch keyboard auto invokes when you tap text fields.Microsoft has also made a few small changes to the tablet section in Settings. However, the experience is currently available for a portion of insiders as the tech giant evaluates the quality. The company has marked the design as beta, suggesting it will change and be shaped by feedback. These new changes will trigger automatically when a user removes the keyboard from a device like a Surface Pro.
Along with the changes in Tablet mode, Microsoft is now testing a cloud download option to reset and restore Windows 10 PCs. It will allow Windows users to reinstall the OS quickly without the need of it being installed on the local disk or on a recovery USB drive. A similar feature has existed in macOS for years.
Other improvements include fixes to DWM memory leak, an issue resulting in WIN+(period) closing, two issues that could result in Settings crashing when interacting with options on the Search page, and many more. Moreover, there are subtle changes in the volume flyout, the network flyout, the clock & calendar flyout, and notification toasts.
Microsoft has also made improvements in Narrator reliability. It will now read webpages from the top of the page and not at the main landmark with a fallback to find a paragraph.

Samsung Galaxy Fold reportedly re-launching on September 6, listed on companys India website as well
The Samsung Galaxy Fold is the South Korean smartphone company’s first foldable smartphone and it could finally be launched globally on September 6, on the first day of IFA 2019. The launch date comes via Korean media but should be taken with a grain of salt since Samsung is yet to confirm it. Samsung was previously speculated to launch the handset by the end of September but if the new report is to be believed, the company might have dramatically advanced the scheduled launch. This report also comes at a time when the Samsung India online store has hosted a product webpage for the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which hints at the device’s imminent launch.
The Korean media report also states that the Samsung Galaxy Fold will hit shelves in the US and China in September. About 20,000 to 30,000 units of the handset are expected to be shipped in South Korea. As for the smartphone being listed on the company’s India website, the device’s features and specifications are listed but as expected, there’s no hint at its India pricing. The listing was first spotted by India Today.
Unfolding the Samsung Galaxy Fold sagaSamsung unveiled the Galaxy Fold smartphone for the world on February 21 this year and it was set to hit shelves on May 3 in Europe, followed by other regions. However, á¹he display of Samsung’s foldable smartphone stopped working for some early reviewers, after which the company started investigating the issue and postponed the device’s rollout. In May, a Samsung executive announced that the Galaxy Fold launch won’t be ‘too late’ but refrained from sharing any specifics.
Back in June, the company announced that the issues with the device are now resolved. A report that came out around the same time stated that the company has redesigned the foldable smartphone’s hinge and improved its display. The company’s CEO DJ Koh also said that he is embarrassed over the problems that arose with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and admitted that it was pushed to the market too soon. Since late July, reports of the Samsung Galaxy Fold finally being launched have been making the rounds on the internet.
Samsung Galaxy Fold specificationsThe Samsung Galaxy Fold is equipped with a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display, which enables the display panel to fold along the hinges. When folded, the Galaxy Fold sports a 4.6-inch HD+ display that has thick bezels. When unfolded, the handset opens up to a QXGA+ resolution panel with 4.2:3 aspect ratio. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC in the US and some other regions while it will run on a Samsung Exynos chip, which is most likely the Exynos 9820. The smartphone packs 12GB RAM with 512GB of internal storage and gets a 12MP + 12MP + 16MP triple cameras on the back and a 10MP + 8MP camera setup on the front. It runs on Android 9 Pie and is backed by a 4380mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy Fold PriceThe Galaxy Fold was announced for EUR 2000 in Europe which converts to Rs 1,55,788 approximately in India. It is priced at $1,980 in the US, which is around Rs 1.37 lakh. The handset is relatively expensive and users who pre-ordered the device previously were supposed to get a new free pair of Galaxy Buds, along with a slim kevlar case and a one-year damage cover via Samsung Care+.

Complementing it is an Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card with 2GB of video RAM, which should aid photo editing and light gaming. Ports on the laptop include two USB-A 3.0 ports, one USB-A 2.0 port, a full-size HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack for headsets. In China, however, the updated RedmiBook 14 will be available from September 6 in grey, pink, and silver colours..

Redmi TV 70 4K HDR TV launched, features a quad core processor and 16GB storage
The first Redmi branded TV was announced on Thursday in China and will be available for CNY 3,799 which translates to about Rs 38,000, directly converted. The TV will be available in one size only - 70-inches and there is no information whether the TV will be available outside China. The TV is simply called the Redmi TV 70. Coming to the features and specifications of the TV, it has a 70-inch screen size that supports 4K and HDR. The TV is powered by a quad-core 64-bit Amlogic SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The Redmi TV 70 runs on the company's PatchWall UI which is based on Android. All of Xiaomi’s TVs available in India run on PatchWall and the TVs currently available in India give consumers the option to run either on Stock Android TV or the PatchWall UI.
Coming back to the Redmi TV 70, the TV has dual-band Wi-Fi, and supports Bluetooth 4.2. For connectivity, the device has three HDMI ports, two USB ports, along with an AV input. The TV will also come with a Bluetooth enabled voice-controlled remote control. The Redmi TV 70 will go on sale in China from September 10. Pre-orders for the TV began on August 29. It isn't clear whether the TV will be available internationally, but looking at the number of TV brands launching products in India, it is likely that the TV will hit Indian shores.
Speaking of Indian shores, we have a number of brands selling budget TVs such as Xiaomi, Metz, TCL, iFFALCON, Metz, Shinco and more. All these brands are sporting LED-backlit TVs with TCL venturing in the QLED space as well. When it comes to OLED TVs, only Sony and LG are selling OLED TVs in India. These, of course, sell for a premium. It looks like that is about to change. METZ is all set to launch its first OLED TV in India and we hope it breaks the Rs 1,00,000 entry barrier for an OLED TV.

Prepare for a triple treat as Apple confirms iPhone 11 launch date
Confirming the previous rumours and speculations, Apple has today, on August 29, sent out media invites for its annual iPhone event. The event will take place at Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California on September 10.
The invite sent out by Apple doesn’t give much away, however, the colours on the Apple logo are speculated to be the available colour options for the iPhone XR successor. While the tech giant might stick with the regular Black, Silver, and Gold colours for the iPhone 11 lineup, the iPhone XR successor could be available in as many as five colour options.
Previously, an asset was discovered within the iOS 13 beta, which suggested that Apple is looking to launch the iPhone 11 in the second week of September, which has now been confirmed.
Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones, which could be powered by Apple’s latest A13 chipset and a new Taptic Engine, codenamed “leap haptics.” While not much is known about the new Taptic Engine as of now, it could replace 3D Touch on this year’s iPhones.
It is also tipped that the upcoming iPhone models will feature a triple rear camera setup. As reported earlier, the three cameras could come with a feature called “Smart Frame.” The feature would capture the area in pictures and videos around the frame so that the user can adjust the framing or perform automatic perspective and crop corrections in post.
Another rumour has it that the new 2019 iPhones might support bidirectional wireless charging. Other expected improvements include upgrades in battery life and Face ID biometric security.
Apple has rarely kept its launch events focused on just a single category of products. Hence, the tech giant is also rumoured to launch an all new 16-inch MacBook Pro alongside a new iPad, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch.

Indias first Apple Store could be set-up in Mumbai, direct online sales might commence soon
The Indian Central Government has relaxed a few rules that apply to foreign companies investing in India. In particular, the rule that a company needs to locally source 30 percent of its production if it wants to open retail stores in the country, has been dropped. In addition, the government now also allows foreign single-brand companies to sell their products online, even if they don’t have a brick-and-mortar store presence in the country. As per an ET report, Apple is planning to not only start selling iPhones online via its own website, but also launch its first Apple Store in Mumbai. Apple products are currently sold in India via various e-commerce retailers like Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm Mall and others.
“We love our customers in India and we’re eager to serve them online and in-store with the same experience and care that Apple customers around the world enjoy. We appreciate the support and hard work by Prime Minister Modi and his team to make this possible, and we look forward to one day welcoming customers to India’s first Apple retail store. ” Apple said in a media statement. "It will take us some time to get our plans under way, and we’ll have more to announce at a future date" the company adds. The report also says that the company’s online store could be up over the next 3-5 months since it requires duplicating Apple’s online store template for the Indian market.
Even though the move by the Indian government is likely to work in Apple’s benefit, it will have to compete with the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi in terms of offline presence. Xiaomi already has a strong offline presence in India with over 6000 offline retail outlets that are divided into Mi Homes, Mi Preferred Partners and Mi Stores. The company recently said that it is eyeing to open more than 10,000 retail stores across these four offline channels by the end of 2019.

OnePlus TV India launch set for September: All you need to know
A OnePlus TV is in the works and the company has already confirmed that it will be launched in September and that India will be the first country where it will be made available. The upcoming device will be sold via Amazon in the country, which doesn’t come as a surprise since OnePlus has been selling its products through Amazon ever since it entered India. Now, the company’s founder and CEO, Pete Lau, has shared some images of the first OnePlus TV that came off fresh from the production line. As you can see in the tweet below, the images showcase Lau packing the TV in its box and the second image gives us a glimpse at the TV’s panel.
First glimpse of the OnePlus TVLast week, our first #OnePlusTV came off the production line - a truly monumental moment. Within this box you'll find over 2 years of dreams, milestones and of course an amazing TV. Proud to seal the very first box, and can't wait for you to see it! pic.twitter.com/hFuChx6bJW
— Pete Lau (@PeteLau) August 27, 2019OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus TV would feature a 55-inch QLED display. However, the second image from Lau’s tweet seems to let on more than what meets the eye. Some of our readers might have noticed the assembly line lights are being diffused by the TV’s panel, which hints at a matte display. This could be a notable feature of the TV since it will make it easier to view content on the device even in a fairly lit room. However, we are unsure of how the company will deal with the reduced vibrancy and contrast since matte displays suffer from this issue.
OnePlus TV expected specifications and featuresThere have been multiple reports and rumours about the upcoming OnePlus TV. A previous report suggested that the device would be announced in four different sizes: 43-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch size variants. As mentioned previously, the 55-inch model will sport a QLED display panel. There’s also a rumour that one of the OnePlus TV models could come equipped with a 4K HDR panel on at least one of its variants. Previously, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said that the company will "develop its own image processing chipsets” so that their TVs quality ‘sets the benchmark’ at Sony's image quality.
OnePlus wrote a detailed post when it officially acknowledged the OnePlus TV and it also mentioned "image quality and audio experience." While there’s not much to go on here, there’s a chance that the upcoming TV by the company could feature some of the latest standards like HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. While OnePlus’ upcoming TV is expected to be a smart device with the company’s own custom UI, Google has reportedly certified a new OnePlus device named “Dosa.” Google has reportedly certified a device called "Oneplus_Dosa_IN" that is expected to run an improved UI on top of Android TV.
Voice control, Bluetooth remote and cameraThere’s also a possibility that the OnePlus TV might come with voice control and interaction, which means it could be equipped with far-field microphones. Some of the Chinese TV makers are now equipping their offerings with a camera and the OnePlus TV is also expected to come with it. However, Lau previously expressed privacy concerns over integrating a camera on the device’s TV. We also previously came across a report that claimed OnePlus has certified a Bluetooth Remote. While there was no image, the OnePlus Remote is said to work on Bluetooth 4.2. The Bluetooth enabled OnePlus TV remote control could feature a dedicated button for accessing an AI assistant like the Google Assistant. Moreover, OnePlus TV could also act as a smart hub for other appliances, apart from being capable of regular smart TV features.
OnePlus TV expected priceOnePlus is rumoured to be targeting the premium TV segment and has referred to the device as a flagship killer. It’s likely that the device might compete with the likes of Samsung and Sony. Lau said, “Because of the strategic partnership with Amazon, our price may be slightly cheaper than their [Sony and Samsung] products, but it won't be half the price.” This means we can’t be sure of the OnePlus TV being announced starting at a price similar to the Mi TVs, which is around Rs 12,000.
OnePlus TV launch date and availabilityThe OnePlus TV has been confirmed to launch in India this September. While there’s no official date yet, it is expected to launch on September 26. On its official forum, the company announced, “And now, I have a very exciting announcement to share with you – the OnePlus TV is set to launch in September, and it will be available in India first.”
The post goes on to say, “Over the past 6 years, we have achieved great success in India in large part because of our passionate and supportive community. Even after all these years, we’re excited to explore exciting new opportunities hand-in-hand with you. The OnePlus TV is such an important product for all of us, and we can’t wait to see it in living rooms all over India.” As mentioned earlier, OnePlus TV will be made available through Amazon.in.

OnePlus 7, 7 Pro could receive Android 10 on September 7 along with Google Pixel 4
Until now, Google’s own Pixel smartphones have been the only devices to recieve every new release of Android first, right after the announcement. With the upcoming Android 10 update, however, that could change. We say that because, according to a screenshot shared on Reddit yesterday, OnePlus is preparing to roll out the Android 10 update to some of its devices on the very day Google announces its OS. Google is expected to announce Android 10 on September 3.
The screenshot shared by Redditor Staafnek (Nick) shows a chat conversation with an unnamed OnePlus support agent. According to the support agent, OnePlus is planning to roll out its Android 10 update on the same date Google officially announces Android 10 for the first time, which is on September 3. It’s important to bear in mind that, since the screenshot shared contains no names or official details, there’s a chance the image is doctored.
When we at Digit reached out to OnePlus India to get more information on the matter, the Chinese smartphone company declined to comment. That leaves us with more questions than answers. Which OnePlus devices will receive Android 10 first? What about the launch of the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro? OnePlus is expected to launch the two ‘T’ phones on October 15. They were recently spotted in the wild running the beta version of Android 10 (previously Android Q).
If the image shared by the Redditor is to be believed, then OnePlus will most likely roll out its OxygenOS update based on Android 10 to its latest devices: the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Models launched before them will probably get the update in the coming months. The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro are expected to be launched on October 15 but it could happen sooner than that. You can read more about that here.

Reliance Jio smart hybrid set top box leaked, new hands-on images appear
Reliance Jio announced a new set top box (STB) at the Annual General Meeting, which is always full of consumer-focused announcements. The smart hybrid set top box is more than just a broadcast receiver. It will let you play and stream games, call any operator or device, including video conferencing and watch the latest movies on the day of release. And, the first images of the device have leaked.
The images shared by DreamDTH showcase the Reliance Jio hybrid STB. It has company’s branding on it and sports a blue colour. The STB can be seen carrying a number of connectivity ports like an entry port for the coaxial cable of the MSO, an Ethernet RJ45 port, one USB 2.0, an HDMI port, and one USB-3 port. At present, the software information is still unavailable. However, the Reliance Jio smart STB is tipped to run Android OS with custom UI.
Reliance Jio has plans to reach 15 million households and 20 million establishments in the next 12 months across the country with Jio’s home broadband service. The STB will also be offered to local cable operators. It will offer the largest bouquet of channels to customers, according to Ambani, in ultra high definition and double up as a smart home hub.
Reliance Jio now has majority stakes in Hathway, GTPL and Den which are major Multi System Operators (MSOs). As explained by DreamDTH, this is because “earlier Jio had plans of launching Tv services as IPTv riding on its own fiber internet service through the Jio Tv app installed in its Android based STB. Later Jio faced severe resistance from local cable operators (LCOs) who would lose their livelihood as people would disconnect cable connections and move to Jio's IPTv service. LCOs could indulge in fiber cutting and damage Jio's infrastructure in order to safeguard their business.”
Reliance Jio smart hybrid set top box will be able to host video conferencing to just about any device with a Jio connection. The company showcased a live demo of the service where a set-top box was able to make a call to a phone right from the conference. Moreover, the smart hybrid STB will support “console-grade” gaming. Jio says it has an in-built graphics card. A live demo was showcased at the AGM where Akash Ambani played a game of FIFA to show off the console’s set-top box’s graphical chops. It had zero latency. However, it is still unclear what gaming platform it supports.
To further the STB’s gaming capabilities, Jio announced a few key partnerships with companies like Gameloft, Tencent and more, indicating that the set top box is going to be playing Android games. You can read more about how Reliance New gaming console is a set top box here.
Ambani said that JioFiber customers who opt for the company’s annual plans, which is called Jio-Forever plans, will get an HD or a 4K LED television and a 4K set-top-box free. However, exact details of the Jio Fiber plans will be revealed on September 5.

Huawei Mate 30 series to launch without Android OS, Google apps and services: Report
Even though Huawei was recently granted a 90-day extension to conduct business with US firms, the smartphone maker seems like it's still headed towards trouble. A Google spokesperson has apparently told Reuters that Huawei won’t be able to use the company’s Android OS, services and popular apps like Google Maps on the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series of handsets. Huawei is reportedly planning to launch its Mate 30 lineup on September 18 in Munich, Germany, and it will be the first major smartphone launch by the company since the US placed Huawei on the country’s entity list.
If the report is to be believed, it is still unclear what Huawei is planning to do. The company might use its home-grown Harmony OS, which can apparently be used on smartphones, wearables, TVs and more. However, this is purely speculation on our part right now and we will have to wait for some more information to be outed. As for the latest 90-day extension for Huawei by the US, it is said to not be applicable for new products such as the Huawei Mate 30. Ever since Huawei has been placed on the US’ entity list, US-based companies need to apply for a license to deal with the Chinese smartphone maker.
The spokesperson didn’t confirm whether Google had applied for a license to do business with Huawei and make its apps and services available for the company. It was previously reported that over 130 applications from US companies were submitted to conduct business with Huawei but none of them were apparently granted. While the future of Huawei’s smartphones are a bit uncertain at the moment, the company’s chip division seems to be in the clear. The HiSilicon Kirin 990 SoC is confirmed to launch on September 6, which will be fabricated on TSMC’s 7nm EUV process.

Apple apologises over listening to Siri audio snippets, fires contractors who heard the recordings
Apple is one company that takes pride in upholding the privacy of users in its ecosystem. However, last month, the company was called out for eavesdropping on users' conversations. It was reported that the Apple contractors were regularly listening to confidential Siri recordings, which included drug deals and recordings of couples making love. It was done as part of their job in providing quality control, or “grading”. Now, Apple has apologised for the privacy mishaps, and said it would no longer retain audio recordings of Siri interactions.
"As a result of our review, we realise we haven't been fully living up to our high ideals, and for that we apologise," Apple said in a statement.
The “grading” was previously done on the basis of several factors including whether the activation of the voice assistant was deliberate or accidental. A report said that accidental activations were the main reason for the private conversations to be sent to Apple. However, the tech giant said on Wednesday, August 28 that users will be able to opt-in to allow Apple to listen to a select bunch of audio samples, which are said to be anonymised.
Apple has taken a tough stand against the contractors who are said to have listened to over 1,000 Siri recordings per shift. The company has reportedly laid off 300 contractors in Cork, Ireland. “More contractors throughout Europe may have been let go,” said a report in Engadget quoting the Guardian.
“Apple is committed to customer privacy and made the decision to suspend Siri grading while we conduct a thorough review of our processes. We're working closely with our partners as we do this to ensure the best possible outcome for our suppliers, their employees and our customers around the world," a spokesperson for Apple was quoted as saying by the Irish Examiner.

PUBG Mobile Chinese beta hints at 90120fps gameplay, BDRM 2 and more
PUBG Mobile developers have been updating the popular battle royale title with notable improvements for some time now. We recently came across a gameplay video of the title’s Timi version in China that hinted at the addition of helicopters to the game. Now, a new video by the YouTuber Mr.Ghost Gaming reveals that the developers are testing high frame rate gameplay. As per the video, the Chinese beta of PUBG Mobile features options to choose from 90 and 120 Frames Per Second (FPS). With the 90 and 120fps option being tested on PUBG Mobile, it seems like the game’s developers have taken note of multiple gaming smartphones with a high refresh rate that are currently being launched. As of now, PUBG Mobile is capable of running at 60 FPS, and that too on high-end phones that are capable of supporting it.
Alongside the high frame rate update, the video also showcases a new vehicle, weapon and change in gameplay mechanics. A new pistol type weapon called the Deagle is being tested in the Chinese beta version of PUBG Mobile. It uses a .45 ACP type ammo and has three attachment points that can be used to fit magazines (extended mag), a laser sight on the lower rail and a standard sight on the upper portion. The new BRDM-2 vehicle is also shown off in the video, which is an amphibious armoured assault vehicle that is already available in the PC version of PUBG.
PUBG introduced the ledge grab gameplay option with update 30 for the PC. Now, the same feature is being ported for mobile and is currently under testing in the game’s Chinese version. Similarly, exploding gas cans, the new disappearing parachute system after landing and an Apex Legends ‘inspired’ option to slide is also being tested. There’s also a new mode in the works that enables players to take to the skies in a helicopter, which can carry an entire squad and can also be destroyed after taking enough damage. Some new weapons that use heavy artillery like the M3E1, and a grenade launcher are under testing as well. These weapons will most likely help take down a helicopter commandeered by opponents.

Alleged Google Pixel 4 images leaked on Telegram
Google might have confirmed key details of the Pixel 4 lineup, but the leaks keep on coming. Earlier this month, an alleged Pixel 4 was spotted in the UK, which did not offer a clear look at the phone, but if you have an eye for detail, you could spot the front camera and the earpiece on the black strip on the forehead, and narrow side bezels and a thin chin. However, two new images of the Pixel 4 have reportedly leaked, and they offer a crisp look at the device in a live scenario.
The two images were found floating around on Telegram, and are now making the rounds all over the web. However, it is unclear what the source of the photos might be. XDA’s Mishaal Rahmaan says, “The images were posted to a (very) small channel and were also posted on a private group. The person who posted it on the private group denies any knowledge of the source, while the owner of the small channel has yet to get back to me.” It is speculated that it is a prototype of the Pixel 4 that we are looking at in the images.
It is unclear whether it is Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL in the image. The Google Pixel 4 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display, whereas the Pixel 4 XL could sport a bigger, 6.3-inch Quad HD+ OLED display. According to the previous leaks, both the smartphones could come with 90Hz displays, which Google is reportedly planning to call “Smooth Display".
The leaked images also reveals the new camera setup on the upcoming smartphones. It is said that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL may sport a dual rear camera setup: a 12MP shooter with phase-detect auto-focus along with a 16MP telephoto lens. Previously, it has been reported that Google might be developing a DSLR-like attachment for the Pixel that may become an available accessory.
More details are expected to be released in the coming days as the new Pixels are tipped to be released in October.

Vivo V17 Pro with quad rear-camera setup officially revealed ahead of official launch
Vivo is gearing up to launch a couple of new smartphones in India and it recently confirmed that the Vivo Z1X will be announced on September 6 in the country. The Vivo V17 Pro is also rumoured to launch soon, since it was recently teased in the new Big Boss trailer. Now, the company has given us our first official look at the handset and as you can see in the image above, the Vivo V17 Pro features a quad camera setup on the back. While all the cameras are placed in the same unit, they are separated by an LED flash that sits in the middle.
The Vivo V17 Pro is also confirmed to come in the two colour options we see above. There’s no info on what exactly these colour options will be called but the device’s rear panel is surely glossy and reflective. One of the handsets seems to feature a pearl white colour for the rear panel, while the other one is a dark shade of blue. The company has also revealed that the Vivo V17 Pro will be launched in India this September and we expect it to be unveiled by the end of next month.
As mentioned earlier, the smartphone maker previously teased the Vivo V17 Pro in a Big Boss promo video. The show's host, Salman Khan, was seen holding the handset in such a way that conceals the quad-camera setup. The Vivo V17 Pro is expected to be launched as a successor to the Vivo V15 Pro, which was a camera-centric handset with a pop-up front camera. The device was also equipped with an AMOLED display, triple rear cameras, and an in-display fingerprint sensor, which was a first for smartphones in the price segment. The Vivo V17 Pro is also expected to feature a similar design with a pop-up camera that houses the front camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Microsoft announces an event on October 2, new Surface devices expected
Microsoft has sent out press invites for their next event, which is scheduled for October 2 in New York City. Interestingly, Microsoft released the 2018 Surface devices on the same day last year. Hence, we are expecting to see the Surface Laptop 3, Surface Pro 7, and Surface Book 3 on October 2, 2019.
The tech giant is also rumoured to announce a dual-screen Surface device, codenamed Centaurus. The device has been reportedly in development for two years now. Other rumoured hardware announcements include Surface earbuds, and new keyboards with a dedicated Office button taking the place of the right-hand Windows key. We might also hear something about the next Windows 10 update at the event.
The new Surface devices are on the production line, and these updates are most likely to be minor refreshes to the current Surface product line.
Starting with the Surface Laptop 3, it could launch with a spec bump and include a USB-C port this time around. Rumour also has it that Microsoft may launch an AMD variant of the Surface Laptop 3. Additionally, USB-C can outright replace the Surface Connect port.
The Surface Pro lineup has been one of the best available 2-in-1s in the market for sometime now, and Microsoft would like to maintain that. While not much is known about the Surface Pro 7 right now, there is a possibility of an LTE variant that's powered by a Snapdragon 8cx processor. The ARM LTE variant will be offered alongside the Intel 10th-generation options. Also, USB-C could make its way to the Pro lineup. However, Thunderbolt 3 will not be present.
Coming to the Surface Book 3, just like the Laptop and Pro lineup, it is not expected to have any design changes. After all, why fix what’s not broken. The new Surface Book is tipped to have internal specification updates to 10th-generation processors.
The Microsoft Surface Go is over a year old now, and an update is due for the budget Surface device as well. While we have not heard anything about a new Surface Go from the rumour mill, the 2nd generation Go is speculated to have smaller bezels, and ARM processors. However, it is unlikely to show up in the upcoming event.
Microsoft Centaurus, a dual screen foldable tablet/laptop can be skipped. This is because it is reported to run Windows Lite, which appears to not be ready for prime time yet. However, we are expecting Microsoft to briefly tease the device.
Windows Central says, “Microsoft showcased this device to multiple employees at an internal all-hands meeting earlier this year, which is very unusual for the company. The Surface team is notorious for keeping projects secret, even from others within Microsoft. Centaurus being shown off on stage internally to employees makes me think Microsoft wants this device to be announced sooner rather than later.”
On the accessories front, as mentioned earlier, Microsoft could announce new keyboards with a dedicated Office button taking the place of the right-hand Windows key. A new pair of Surface earbuds, codenamed Morrison might be announced as well.
Moreover, rumours suggest that Microsoft is planning to announce “Teams For Life,” a new version of Microsoft Teams for consumers.

Google removes CamScanner from Play Store after Trojan Dropper malware scare
There’s a good chance that you know about the CamScanner app, which is available on both Android and iOS. The ‘Phone PDF Creator’ or ‘Scanner to Scan PDFs’ app had over 100 million downloads, before being booted from the Google Play Store. Researchers at Kaspersky Labs found a malware in the recent versions of the popular OCR (optical character recognition) app. It was apparently harbouring an advertising library containing a malicious module that the Kaspersky researchers identified as ‘Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Necro.n.’ As per the report, this particular malware module was previously spotted in a few apps that came preinstalled on some Chinese smartphones.
The malware module was spotted only on the Android version of the app and it seems like its iOS version is still available on the App Store, probably because of Apple’s strict app vetting policies. As the Kaspersky blog notes, CamScanner was a pretty good app that offered notable functionality. While it displayed ads for generating revenue, there were options for in-app purchases and buying a License separately for eliminating ads. However, the Trojan Dropper module found within the app is said to extract and run another malicious module from an encrypted file included in the app’s resources.
“This “dropped” malware, in turn, is a Trojan Downloader that downloads more malicious modules depending on what its creators are up to at the moment. For example, an app with this malicious code may show intrusive ads and sign users up for paid subscriptions,” the Kaspersky blog states. We checked to find that the CamScanner app has been removed from the Google Play Store. However, Kaspersky reports that the app’s developers removed the malicious code with the latest update. However, since the apps’ version varies for different devices, it is recommended that one uninstalls it as their device might have an older version of that app that contains the Trojan Dropper malware module.
This is not the first time an app has slipped past through the Google Play Store’s app vetting process. While it can also be difficult to keep up with thousands of apps and their updates that are being released on the platform, Google needs to step up its game if it wants to assure users that the Play Store is the safest place to download Android apps from.
