Keychron K8 Pro Review: A premium typing experience

We had a great time with the Keychron K8 Pro mechanical keyboard. Its sleek and sturdy design, flexible wireless connectivity, the convenience of hot-swappable switches, and long-lasting battery cater to both productivity enthusiasts and gaming enthusiasts alike. If you’re looking for a TKL mechanical keyboard to add to your arsenal, the Keychron K8 Pro is definitely worth considering, be it for work, gaming, or both.

When it comes to mechanical keyboards, Keychron is a pretty well-known brand. Although we don’t see a lot of them in India, we’ve definitely heard about them. So when we found out that Keychron was not officially available in India and we had the chance to actually review the Keychron K8 Pro, we jumped at the chance. I used the Keychron K8 Pro for an extensive amount for time, as a daily-driver for both work and gaming, and I can confidently say that Keychron lives up to its hype. Let’s take a closer look at the Keychron K8 Pro.

Keychron K8 Pro - Build and Design

The Keychron K8 Pro boasts an 80 percent TKL or tenkeyless layout, meaning there’s no numpad on this keyboard. And that’s fine, it’s kind of what they were going for. They've got even smaller and more compact options if that's what you're looking for. The idea is to promote a clean and efficient desktop where the keyboard doesn’t take up 70 percent of the space. Other than that, its sleek design and robust build quality are immediately noticeable. It’s surprisingly heavy for its size, and that’s thanks to the keyboard's metal frame which makes this a fairly rugged and durable keyboard (or weapon). The keyboard comes with matte texture keycaps which don’t attract fingerprints, which is nice. The keycaps are also double-shot PBT keycaps with sharp and clear legends. Certainly no holds barred when it comes to build quality. Oh, the Keychron K8 Pro is also a wireless Bluetooth keyboard and comes with a detachable USB-C cable.

The K8 Pro does not come with any official Keychron software support. It does however come with VIA support, through which you can pretty much program the keyboard to fuction as you please. All the macros and shortcut options you can dream of. Without VIA you have access to basic FN shortcuts, including the ability to cycle through the preset lighting modes. Speaking of which, the backlighting is fairly bright, but does not shine through the keys.

The K8 Pro comes with Gateron G Pro switches. Our unit came with Gateron G Pro Blues, but you have options that feature Gateron G Pro Reds and Gateron G Pro Browns as well. While I personally prefer Red Switches, the typing experience on the Keychron K8 Pro with the Gateron Blues was still very satisfying. The keys are well-spaced and feel very responsive, which contributes to a fairly smooth typing experience, even over extended periods of time regardless of the task at hand, be it work or gaming.

The hot-swappable switch design of the K8 Pro makes it effortless to swap out switches without soldering, so if Gateron switches aren't your thing, you have the option to swap them out to the switches of your preference.

Wireless Connectivity and Battery Life

In terms of connectivity, the Keychron K8 Pro excels with both wired and wireless options. Utilising Bluetooth 5.1, the keyboard can be paired with up to three devices, and you can seamlessly switch between them. Any device with BT 5.1 support can pair with the keyboard, including phones and tablets. That makes this keyboard excellent for someone who constantly switches between gadgets.

During the times we did use the wireless connection, it remained stable for the most part, with no noticeable input lag. We wouldn’t normally game wirelessly on a Bluetooth keyboard, but for casual titles, the Keychron K8 works great even wirelessly. Need quicker response times? Simple switch back to wired. The K8 Pro can be used in both Bluetooth and wired modes simultaneously, allowing for charging while using the keyboard without any interruption.

The K8 Pro houses a 4000mAh lithium battery which according to Keychron can last up to 240 hours with the RGB lighting off, and around 72 hours with RGB lighting at maximum brightness. In our day-to-day use, we found that we needed to charge the keyboard roughly once a week at most, which is impressive.

We’ve already spoken about how comfortable the keyboard is and how good it feels to type with the K8 Pro. The same carries over to gaming as well, the actuation force on the Gateron G Pros feels just right, which coupled with the spacing and familiarity of the layout meant I never missed a key. Response feels tight and crisp. Plus, there’s a reason pros prefer TKL keyboards as it allows you to keep your hands closer together which helps with responsiveness and overall performance.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 Graphics Card Review: Time for an upgrade

The AMD Radeon RX 7600 offers a reasonable performance at a palatable price point, making it a suitable choice for budget-conscious gamers targeting 1080p gaming. We don’t know the Indian pricing for the card so take that statement with a pinch of salt. Its compact design, DisplayPort 2.1, and AV1 support are commendable features, and the introduction of the RDNA 3 architecture in this price range is certainly noteworthy. However, the RX 7600's performance isn't a significant leap over the previous generation RX 6650 XT, which is available at INR 25,999, making the value proposition of this card somewhat questionable if its final retail price is more than that of the 6650 XT. Furthermore, the card's thermal and acoustic performance is decent, and we're already fans of the all metal build. Ultimately, the RX 7600 is a competent card that delivers expected performance for its class, but it doesn't offer a compelling reason for users to upgrade from its immediate predecessors. That’s a rare scenario since most folks upgrade from 2-4 generations prior. With that consideration, this is one great upgrade.

The AMD Radeon RX 7600, the latest graphics card offering from AMD, marks an important step in bringing the RDNA 3 architecture to the sub-$300 price range. A last minute drop from USD 299 to 269 has made the RX 7600 quite competitive with the NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti. We can’t opine about the performance of the RTX 4060 Ti because our review unit is still stuck at Indian Customs for want of clearance. It comes with 8GB VRAM which is pretty much targeted at 1080p gaming, and it also supports DisplayPort 2.1 and AV1 hardware encoding, catering to the needs of content creators. Suffice to say, the RX 7600 aims to hit the sweet spot for budget-minded gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. We still don’t have details regarding the Indian pricing since the models are yet to hit the market.

But does the RX 7600 offer groundbreaking performance? Or is it simply going to be an incremental upgrade? That’s what we’ll answer in this review.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 Graphics Card Review

The mid-range segment is an extremely competitive space since it also sees one of the highest sales volumes owing to the excellent price-to-performance ratio that models in this segment generally have. So, the RX 7600 faces the challenge of carving out its own niche in the competitive graphics card market. In this review, we delve into the performance, build quality, thermal and acoustic characteristics, and overall value proposition of the AMD Radeon RX 7600.

Specifications

Like the other GPUs in the AMD Radeon RX 7000 family, the AMD Radeon RX 7600 introduces several changes when compared to its predecessors, the RX 6650 XT, RX 6600 XT, and RX 6600. Starting with the architecture, the RX 7600 utilises the latest-generation RDNA 3, while the previous generation cards were built on RDNA 2. This new architecture brings reworked compute units (CUs) for an improved theoretical number crunching capability and better silicon utilisation​​. In our Radeon RX 7900 XTX review, the new RDNA 3 architecture really punched above its weight.

In terms of process technology, the RX 7600 is made using the TSMC N6 process node, which is a step up from the TSMC N7 process node used in the RX 6650 XT, RX 6600 XT, and RX 6600​. So there will be similar power savings like we saw with the 7900 XTX. Another point of note is that unlike the flagship of the Radeon 7000 family, the Radeon RX 7600 does not follow a chiplet design. The GPU at the heart of the graphics card is a monolith built using the TSMC N6 node. So you can’t expect tremendous performance gains from the 7600 in line with the 7900 XTX. Then again, having a monolithic design also has a lot of benefits with regards to latency timings between sections of the GPU. All of these factors will play out during our gaming benchmarks.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 Navi 33 GPU

Since we’re on the topic of the GPU, the RX 7600 has 32 Compute Units (CUs) which is the same number as the RX 6650 XT and RX 6600 XT, and more than the RX 6600. However, it boasts twice as many arithmetic logic units (ALUs) per CU. This results in a significant increase in FP32 teraflops, bringing the number up to 21.5 TFLOPs compared to just 10.8 TFLOPs on the RX 6650 XT, and 10.6 TFLOPs on the RX 6600 XT, and 8.93 TFLOPs on the RX 6600. FP16 throughput is also doubled​. Also, the 7600 gets an AI core for each CU which also leads to greater performance.

The VRAM speed of the RX 7600 is 18 Gbps, which nearly matches the RX 6650 XT and surpasses the RX 6600 XT and RX 6600. All four cards feature 8GB of VRAM connected to a 128-bit bus​. The reference RX 7600 comes with a boost clock of 2625 MHz, which is slightly below the RX 6650 XT's 2635 MHz but above the RX 6600 XT's 2589 MHz and RX 6600's 2491 MHz​​.

Finally, the RX 7600 uses less power with a TDP of 165 watts, lower than the RX 6650 XT's 180 watts, and slightly higher than the RX 6600 XT's 160 watts and the RX 6600's 132 watts​​. We can’t say for certain if a chiplet design would have helped in saving power since the individual savings per CU wouldn’t have added up to a high number considering that there are very few CUs in this card.

Build Quality

The build quality of the reference AMD Radeon RX 7600 is pretty good. Its compact design and understated appearance make it an attractive option for those seeking a graphics card that can fit into almost any computer case​ and there’s no bling-bling A.K.A RGB​. This makes it a versatile option, particularly for users looking to upgrade an older or OEM office PC machine.

The all-metal cooler construction of the card adds to its aesthetic appeal, featuring a stylish dark colour theme. Yes, you read that right, its ALL METAL design. The front plate and back plate are made of aluminium. Aside from the power connector and some bits here and there, everything else is metal. Despite the card's compact form, it does come with an 8-pin PCIe power connector. Once the TBP (Total Board Power) crosses 150 W, you have to switch to an 8-pin connector. We did notice one thing regarding the connectors, if you don’t have a standard 8-pin connector design, then you might face some issue with plugging the 8-pin connector since there isn’t much clearance around the power connector. This is quite common with partner cards since they often go overboard with the backplate or the positioning of the power connectors to the extent that you might wonder if they expect you to plug the connecter in using a pair of tweezers. For folks who didn’t get the little joke, allow me to make it clear that you should not be using tweezers to plug power connectors into graphics cards.

On the inside, we see a fairly normal PCB with the Navi 33 XL chip bang in the centre surrounded by four memory chips. There does seem to be a minor goof-up with the thermal pads on the SKU that we received since it was completely missing the thermal pad. We wonder if there will be any thermal throttling issues because of this.

The cooler on the RX 7600 features two 90 mm fans blowing down onto the heatsink which only opens up on the bottom and the top. There’s nothing coming out of the I/O plate or from the diametrically opposite end. That being said, the cooling assembly is sufficient to keep the card cool. It also operates quietly, with barely any noise during peak load. And like most graphics cards in the market these days, if there’s no need for the fans to spin, they do sit idle. If your fan is going berserk when you’re not gaming, and just browsing. Then switch off GPU acceleration in the brower. That will help with the fans spinning but might not help with the user experience on the browser.

Another thing that should be pointed out is that support for DisplayPort 2.1 depends on the manufacturer, so you might find cards that do not have DisplayPort 2.1 support. Although, I don't see why 1080p gaming would want that high a bandwidth to begin with, so it's not really a loss.

There was also some confusion about the fan profile of the new RX 7600 cards due to a change between different driver versions. The press driver resulted in slower and quieter fans, but slightly higher temperatures. AMD did tell us that there will be a driver dropping tomorrow i.e. 25th May 2023 with the final fan curve for the RX 7600. Despite these issues, the build quality of the RX 7600 is generally good, with a few areas for potential improvement. Over the years, my preference has switched from partner cards towards reference cards simply because they are better built with less RGB nonsense.

Performance

The components picked for our GPU tests ensure that there isn't any bottlenecking on the CPU or the other components. Here's the rig that we have used for the review:

Overclocking

A mid-range card that can be overclocked to get a significant performance increment will forever be a pipe dream. The Radeon RX 7600 allows you to increase the power limit by 12 per cent and then you can increase the clock speed to 3000 MHz. That’s not a lot by any means. You should ideally follow this up by reducing the voltage to the GPU to keep the card from unnecessarily hitting high temperatures. The benchmark results, however, don’t show much of a performance gain. Time Spy Extreme only gives a 3 FPS gain which is barely anything.

Thermal and acoustic performance

The thermal and acoustic performance of the Radeon RX 7600 is pretty standard with nothing coming off as out of the ordinary. The card's cooler is sufficient in maintaining a cool temperature under load. Usually, custom design cards from AIBs or partner brands tend to have better performance since they tend to overclock the GPU a little. Peak noise levels were around 33-34 dB which is quite decent and it gets muted when placed inside a chassis.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Graphics Card Review: A slightly improved RTX 3080

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is a pretty good upgrade for folks coming in from an RTX 20-series card or older. Currently, the RTX 3080 is retailing for INR 66,000 in India so the RTX 4070 easily surpasses the RTX 3080 considering that it is equal in performance in most games without RTX or even when running DLSS 2 along with RTX. The key differentiators are the improved RT Cores, Tensor Cores and improved power efficiency thanks to the TSMC 4N process that it is build on. You can easily say that the RTX 3080 has been effectively replaced by the RTX 4070.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is the card that you wished had launched a couple of months ago. It brings all the goodness of the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture which brings support for several good features such as DLSS 3 and AV1 Hardware decoding support, things that gamers and content creators alike would really appreciate. The price of the RTX 4070 Founders Edition in India is INR 62,000 which is decently pricey and brings it to the league of the RTX 3080 and is decently cheaper than the RTX 4070 Ti.

The RTX 4070, given its pricing, is geared towards the higher end of the mid-range segment which is where you find cards capable of 1440p gaming with all the bells and whistles. We’re talking RTX, NVIDIA hairworks, faceworks and whatever else works. The latter two are not NVIDIA features, please don’t write news pieces about them. 

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Specs

The RTX 4070 is built on NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture, which is the successor to the Ampere architecture used in the previous generation of RTX 30-series cards. Ada Lovelace introduces several new features and improvements, such as better ray tracing capabilities, faster rendering, and improved power efficiency. The improved power efficiency is due to the switch from Samsung 8nm (RTX 30-series) to the TSMC 4N node which is actually a 5nm process node that’s about 6 per cent smaller than TSMC’s initial 5nm process.

The GPU configuration of the RTX 4070 is divided into four Graphics Processing Clusters (GPCs). Each GPC serves as a high-level organisational unit which includes Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs), Texture Processing Clusters (TPCs), and Raster Operating Units (ROPs). The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 has 23 TPCs, each containing two SMs. In total, there are 46 SMs on the GPU, which are responsible for executing shader programs and handling various graphics processing tasks. Each SM features 128 CUDA Cores, summing up to 5,888 CUDA Cores across the entire GPU.

In addition to the CUDA Cores, the RTX 4070 is equipped with 184 Tensor Cores, 4 per SM, which are specialised hardware units designed to accelerate AI-based computations. Tensor Cores enable the GPU to perform complex matrix operations at high speeds, making them particularly useful for deep learning applications. The RTX 4070 also includes 46 RT Cores, one per SM, which are dedicated ray tracing hardware units that significantly improve the rendering of realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections. With these dedicated RT Cores, the GPU can perform ray tracing tasks much faster than previous-generation GPUs.

The GPU has 184 Texture Units, which are responsible for handling texture mapping tasks, such as applying textures to 3D models and filtering texture data. Furthermore, the RTX 4070 features 64 ROP Units, which handle the final stage of rendering, including anti-aliasing and outputting pixel data to the frame buffer.

Another major change with Ada Lovelace is the massive increase in L2 cache. The card comes with a sizable 36 MB of L2 cache, which reduces memory access latency and improves overall performance. Since most of the calculations are going to be closer to the GPU and will not be sent to the much slower GDDR6X memory, the larger L2 cache really helps with gaming workloads and AI applications really love fast memory. So the DLSS features such as Frame Generation benefit a lot because of this. The RTX 4070 is equipped with 12 GB of GDDR6X memory, which operates on a 192-bit memory bus. This high-speed memory allows the GPU to handle large textures, high-resolution displays, and complex scenes without performance degradation. The narrower bus width is fine since the L2 cache is large.

Lastly, the RTX 4070 supports AV1 hardware encoding, a next-generation video codec that offers improved compression efficiency and video quality compared to previous codecs. This hardware support ensures that the GPU can efficiently encode and decode AV1 video streams, providing better video playback and streaming capabilities. OBS has already incorporated support for AV1 codecs so folks who have the beta version can start streaming to YouTube using the AV1 codec. Also, NVIDIA recently relaxed the limits on simultaneous encode streams so creators can now have 5 concurrent streams on most mainstream graphics cards.

The Founders Edition RTX 4070 follows the same design principles as the other RTX 40 series graphics cards. The main PCB is quite compact and takes up very little volume and there’s a massive metal heatsink fin array spanning the entirety of the body. Like the RTX 3080 and the larger RTX 4080 and 4090, the 4070 also has a twin fan assembly which is configured to optimise maximum airflow through the fin assembly. There's little to say about the build quality. What is interesting though is that the RTX 4070 is a much smaller card than the other RTX 40 series cards and almost feels like a 60-class card.

Load Temperatures

Peak temperatures with the grapics card under load is very much in line with the other RTX cards and even the AMD RX 6000 series cards. Every card is hovering aorund 70 degrees Celsius under gaming load so there's nothing of note to talk about here.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 will be available for sale starting April 13, 2023 and will be priced at INR 62,000 in India inclusive of all taxes. The official launch MSRP for the RTX 4070 is USD 599. So it's pretty decently priced considering that it is retailing for Rs 62,000 in India. Partner AIB graphics cards will also be available starting April 13, 2023.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is a pretty good upgrade for folks coming in from an RTX 20-series card or older. Currently, the RTX 3080 is retailing for INR 66,000 in India so the RTX 4070 easily surpasses the RTX 3080 considering that it is equal in performance in most games without RTX or even when running DLSS 2 along with RTX. The key differentiators are the improved RT Cores, Tensor Cores and improved power efficiency thanks to the TSMC 4N process that it is build on. You can easily say that the RTX 3080 has been effectively replaced by the RTX 4070.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Desktop Processor Review: 128MB of L3 Cache works its magic

AMD has yet another winner in its hands with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D which takes the crown away from Intel in the gaming domain. AMD still has a lot of roads to cover and it's not yet a clean sweep for Team Red but with each new release, AMD is encroaching into territories where Intel has been untouchable. Coming to the question  - Whether you should get the 7950X or the 7950X3D? Well, if your usage is going to be gaming-heavy, then go for the 7950X3D. The 7950X still has a place thanks to its higher thermal headroom but as these processors get more efficient, we should see 3D V-Cache becoming more commonplace. For INR 60,599, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D is a great buy.

AMD experimented with 3D SRAM stacking technology with their AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor and had a winner in their hands and we now have more processors with the same tech coming out with the 7000 family. Having faster memory closer to the cores gave a tremendous boost to the performance in several workloads but the performance gains in gaming were the most prominent. So much so that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D still beats processors that launched after it and are of a higher tier. And with the Ryzen 7000 family out, AMD is expanding on their little experiment and coming out with a lot more ‘X3D’ processors. The launch lineup includes the AMD Ryzen 9 7950XD, AMD Ryzen 9 7900XD, and the AMD Ryzen 7 7800XD. Compared to the vanilla Ryzen 9 7950X (if at all you can call a flagship processor “vanilla”), the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D has 64MB more cache on the die. That’s a lot more memory for video games to exploit and get some extra frames out.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D will be priced the same as the normal Ryzen 9 7950X. That’s USD 699 or INR 60,599. Obviously, you’d be wondering why anyone would want to get the vanilla 7950X in that case, read on to know where the vanilla processor excels.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D has quite a few things that are different with the core configuration. We’ve already seen how the 3D V-Cache can drastically improve performance with the 5800X3D and the 7950X3D looks like it’s aiming to do the same.

The IO Die is the same as the models without 3D V-Cache and the GPU has also remained the same. It’s the same configuration with 2x RDNA2 cores that are clocked at 400 MHz with a boost clock of 2200 MHz. What has changed is the TDP which has been brought down from 170W to 120W. So a lot of the thermal headroom that the 7950X had has been taken away from the 7950X3D. Then again, we’ve seen how the 65W units have come close to performing as the higher TDP units, so the net performance difference might not be that much.

With a reduction in TDP, there is a reduction in the base frequency as well. The vanilla 7950X was clocked at 4.5 GHz with a boost clock of 5.7 GHz but the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D is clocked at 4.2 GHz and has the same boost clock of 5.7 GHz. So when the need arises, the 7950X3D can ramp up for bursty performance but the time it can sustain at peak load will be different. 

And like all the other AMD Ryzen 7000 processors, the 7950X3D also supports ECC memory provided that the motherboard that it is paired with supports the same. Overall, there are several tradeoffs between the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and the 7950X3D for both of them to warrant the same space. What’s also exciting to see would be which processor sells the most in the coming months.

Rendering Like always, we start off with Cinebench R23 which scores 35540 in the multi-threaded run and 2021 in the single-threaded run. Compared to the vanilla 7950X, that’s a little higher than the single-thread score but the multithread score takes a hit. 

In Blender, we see the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D score 264, 165, and 130 in the Monster, Junkshop, and Classroom benchmarks, respectively. Again, this is a little lesser than the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X which had scored about 10 points higher in Junkshop and Classroom whereas, in Monster, it scored a little over 35 points ahead. 

Content Creation In the Procyon benchmarks for content creation, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D performs a little below the 7950X and the Intel Core i9-13900K but ahead of the 7900X in the Image Retouching segment. However, in the Batch processing benchmark it performs better than the Intel Core i9-13900K and the 7900X but still lags behind the 7950X. Under the video editing benchmark, the benchmark failed several times. Hopefully, this should stabilise over time.

AI/ML AI workloads also favour larger memory sources closer to the CPU and we can see the 7950X3D scoring higher than the 7950X by a decent margin. However, Intel has always had the upper hand in AI benchmarks since they’ve had an IGP that’s been leveraged by OEMs worldwide for a couple of years. So the 7950X3D falls behind like all the remaining AMD processors. Our current AI benchmarks are purely synthetic scripts and we’ll shortly be adding several real-world benchmarks to show a well-rounded representation.

Compression/Decompression Coming to compression/decompression algorithms, we use 7-Zip and WinRaR to see how processors deal with a very common use case in modern operating systems. The 7950X scores higher than the 7950X and even the Intel Core i9-13900K. The same can be seen with WinRaR where the 7950X3D scores a little higher than the 7950X and the Intel Core i9-13900K. 

Browser In browser benchmarks, Intel has had an advantage for quite some time. In the Octane bench, we see the 7950X3D score a little lower than the 7950X as well as the 13900K. These benchmarks favour higher clock speeds and the 7950X3D has a lower clock, so the drop in performance is understandable.

Gaming Gaming is where the 3D V-Cache really excelled with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D and no doubt, everyone would be most excited to see how the successors perform. We started out with synthetic benchmarks and 3DMark is first on our list.

With a discrete graphics card connected, the scores in 3DMark Time Spy were higher than vanilla 7950X but a smidge below the Intel Core i9-13900K. Whereas in the CPU Profile benchmark, we noticed that the scores were higher on the 7950X3D when 16 Threads were running. However, when the threads dropped to 8, 4, 2, and 1, the Intel flagship had an advantage. 

Coming to real-world gaming tests. We can see the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D pulling ahead of the 7950X in quite a lot of gaming benchmarks. Riftbreaker is where we saw the highest delta whereas, in games such as Far Cry 6, the 7950X3D is neck and neck with the 13900K. In F1 2022, the Intel 13900K is a little ahead of the 7950X3D. In Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, the Intel 13900K retains its lead. Shadow of the Tomb Raider reverses that with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D inching ahead. So we've seen quite a lot of movement in the video game performance benchmarks with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D taking the crown away from Intel in a lot of titles while not having much success in some titles. Overall, the 7950X3D is an equal if not a better gaming processor.

Power With a lower TDP, the power consumption levels are expected to be lower. How low? Well, the 7950X would consume 210 watts on average in a high-demand scenario with peak wattage being 220+ watts. Compared to that, the 7950X3D consumes 125 watts on average in the same high-demand scenario with peak levels hitting 145 watts.

Verdict

AMD has yet another winner in its hands with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D which takes the crown away from Intel in the gaming domain. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti AERO OC 12G Graphics Card Review: In its rightful place

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is very similar in performance to the AMD RX 6950 XT in a lot of gaming benchmarks and better than the previous gen RTX 3090 from NVIDIA. From some of our older benchmarks, it seems very comparable to the RTX 3090 Ti as well. So you're getting a really good performance uplift with the RTX 4070 Ti. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti AERO that we tested not only comes across as a very polished chic looking card but the additional warranty that GIGABYTE offers (provide you register) is certainly an appreciated value addition. While the initial launch might have been completely out of place, in its current avatar, the RTX 4070 Ti seems to have redeemed itself. Getting the performance of an RTX 3090 Ti for about 95K is a pretty sweet deal.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card has received more than its fair share of attention within the launch cycle of the RTX 40 series graphics cards. Primarily because there was a massive uproar when it was originally unveiled as an RTX 4080 12 GB variant. The hullabaloo was because the 80-class cards have traditionally been top-tier cards with barely any compromises in any aspect whereas the RTX 4080 12 GB card seemed to have a few specs falling short of what has traditionally been the trend. So after getting unlaunched, NVIDIA released the card again as the RTX 4070 Ti. Nothing has changed except for the naming of the card. Everything else remains the same. Meanwhile, AMD has launched several graphics cards which have proven to be competitive in the price range. Let’s see how the new cards rank up.

Internationally, the suggested price was USD 899 for the 4080 12 GB model but that has since been dropped by USD 100 down to USD 799. However, the 4070 Ti does not have any Founders Edition cards so OEMs are going to have slightly higher-priced SKUs. After all, they do add value by customising the appearance as well as the cooling mechanism. AMD’s cards are priced at USD 899 and USD 999 for the 7900 XT and the 7900 XTX, respectively. And while they do have the equivalent of FE cards, we didn’t find any links to retail listings on the official website. The cheapest 7900 XTX that we could find online was priced at INR 110,153 while the 7900 XT was seen at INR 92,999. The cheapest RTX 4070 Ti that we saw was at INR 82,615. So the comparable GPU from the competition is a little expensive. Onto the specifications now.

Compared to the RTX 4080 16 GB SKU, the 4070 Ti has 7680 CUDA cores which is quite a reduction compared to the 4080’s 9728 CUDA cores. In all, that’s 16 Streaming Multiprocessors less for the 4070 Ti or a 21 per cent core count reduction. With the previous generation of RTX 30-series cards, we saw two RTX 3080 SKUs as well. The higher specced 12 GB card had just 256 CUDA cores higher than the RTX 3080 10 GB SKU, or about 2.9 per cent reduction. Now you can see why there was such an outrage considering how vastly different the core counts were from NVIDIA’s initial plan for the two 80-class GPUs.

Coming back to the differences in specs. We now have Gen 3 RT Cores, Gen 4 Tensor Cores, and a much narrower 192-bit bus width for the memory. Usually, newer-gen memory allows for speedier movement of data, so a narrower bus width is usually justified. However, with the 4070 Ti, the 192-bit bus is actually very low compared to the previous generation since it is paired with the same GDDR6X memory and the cumulative bandwidth is 504.2 GB/s. Whereas the RTX 3080 12 GB SKU and the 10 GB SKU both had 384-bit wide busses and the bandwidth was 1,008 GB/s and 936 GB/s respectively.

The clock speed of the reference design of RTX 4070 Ti is supposed to be 2610 MHz and the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti AERO OC 12G that we have has a little extra which brings it to 2640 MHz. So our scores might not be that different from a Founders Edition card, had there been one.

GIGABYTE has a really clean design for the visuals on the packaging. Very minimalist, and straight to the point. The rear of the packaging has several of the key highlights including the cooler design, RGB lighting, and backplate being mentioned while the rest of the packaging is also very muted.

Inside the packaging, we have some documentation including the warranty card, followed by the graphics card and all the accessories. Speaking of accessories, there is a 2x 8-PIN to 12VHPWR power adapter and a metal anti-sag support bracket. Considering that the new RTX 40 cards are a little chunkier(chonkier!), this is a nice touch to see the OEMs provide matching support brackets. 

Coming to the actual graphics card. The front has a nice clean white design with a very minimalist decal. There are three 100 mm cooling fans as has been the case with GIGABYTE’s WINDFORCE designs. And underneath the shroud of the fans, we see a massive heatsink spanning the entire length of the graphics card.

On the rear, there is a protective metal backplate but to aid with the cooling, they’ve put a massive cut out. So, the ‘protectiveness’ of the backplate is partial.

Overall, the card would really look good if mounted vertically but if you were to mount it the way nature intended, then you’ll need three slots.

Lastly, for the ports, we have three DisplayPort 1.4a ports and one HDMI 2.1 port. There are several cutouts for letting air flow out through the back as well.
