HP has rolled out its most awaited HP Envy x360 15 in India which claims to be a content creation powerhouse. The laptop can be used as a tablet as well by rotating it at maximum 360 degrees. It comes with a decent display which is also a touch screen as I mentioned above that it can be used as a tablet. The HP Envy x360 15 comes with some cool AI-based features as well. Let’s dive into the specifications without wasting any time.

The all new HP Envy x360 15 boasts a 15.6-inch OLED screen with 88% screen-to-body ratio. If you want to draw or sketch something, the laptop features a very responsive touch screen. The display of HP Envy x360 15 is also certified by IMAX for enhanced visuals.

HP Envy x360 15

HP offers the laptop in three different variants if we talk about the processor. It comes with the latest 13th Gen Intel Core i7 processors and AMD Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 (7000 series) processors. These processors are paired with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics and AMD Radeon graphic cards. For the battery, HP claims that the laptop can run up to 15 hours of battery life.

Talking about the AI-driven features, the HP Envy x360 15 has HP Presence 2.0 which helps in suppressing the background noises when you are on call. This feature helps you in enhancing your audio and visual experience.

Next up, it has an Auto Frame feature which helps in focusing you even if you are moving or shifting in a meeting, creating content or what not.

The last but not least feature is background blue. I am sure you are familiar with this feature as it now comes in many apps and devices. It blurs the background when you are in a video call or in a meeting.

Netflix bullishly moving forward with its password-sharing crackdown measures in Q2 2023

We were all dreading this, but it looks like Netflix is now looking at a broad rollout of its password-sharing clampdown in a few more markets. The company first introduced these measures in countries like Portugal, New Zealand, Canada and Spain and if reports are to be believed, the upper management at Netflix seems to be happy about how the launch of the service has turned out. Netflix is looking at deploying its new sharing plans in the US and other markets around the world sometime in the second quarter of 2023. As mentioned above, the streaming giant has already rolled out a ‘buy an extra member’ feature in 4 countries but is now looking at expanding that feature on a global scale.

Netflix rolling out new password-sharing clampdowns

So, how does all this really work? Let’s break it down. Say you pay for one Netflix account and have shared said account with 4 other people in your family circle. Netflix says that all 4 individuals should be in the ‘same household’ in order to access the service. What this means is that Netflix is tired of losing money on garbage TV shows and is looking at new sleazy ways of ripping off its subscriber base. Part of what made Netflix the juggernaut it now is was the ability to share your account with friends and family (legally, of course). But, in a move straight out of Scrooge McDuck’s playbook, the company is looking at wringing every drop of blood out of its customers that it possibly can. Netflix’s co-CEO Greg Peters stated that the company is looking at ‘protecting its revenue and ensuring fair usage of its service”. Well, one step towards saving revenue would be to stop producing garbage!

Netflix

How does it affect Netflix users in India?

How this pans out for the streaming giant is yet to be seen, and on a personal note, I have family on my account who do not live in the country. So, it’ll be interesting to see exactly how this turns out in a country like India. The streaming service is already the most expensive in the country and it’ll be difficult for someone to justify an extra bit of cash for a dying service with absolutely pathetic programming.

Netflix introduces 2 new features to its TV app

It looks like Netflix has finally listened to its subscribers and introduced 2 helpful features on its TV app. One of the more annoying things about subtitles on the Netflix TV app was that it was too large and sometimes, difficult to read. But worry no longer as the streaming giant has now issued an update to the app which gives users a bit more control over how they view subtitles and closed captions.

Netflix

Netflix has taken a bit of criticism from its subscriber base and the media because of its rather illogical password-sharing limitations that were recently introduced in countries like the US, Canada and more. And while more user-friendly features are welcomed, the company has a long way to go to win back support.

So, what can users expect with these updates?

Netflix's new customizable subtitles and closed caption features

Change text size and font:

Users can now change the size of the subtitles on the Netflix Tv app. You have three options to choose from, namely small, medium and large. Ideally, the small size is good enough for most people, but we’d suggest first-time users stick with the medium size. You can also change the font on the screen, giving users more control over their experience with the TV app.

Netflix

Change subtitle background:

Viewing subtitles on various shows and movies can sometimes be a chore because of the dynamic nature of what’s being shown on screen. So, in order to make reading subtitles a little easier, you can now change the background on the subtitles. There are another 3 options here, namely, Light (black text on a white background), Drop Shadow (white text on a black background), and Contrast (yellow text on a black background).

First Bollywood movie shot fully on iPhone 14 Pro: Fursat by Vishal Bhardwaj

Just how good is the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera prowess? Digit’s Test Centre has had no qualms in hailing Apple’s iPhone as the de-facto video benchmark for gauging every other smartphone’s video chops for the better part of a decade. Circa 2023, the time has come for even the best in Bollywood to stake their reputations on the iPhone’s video capabilities. ‘Fursat’, a sci-fi time-travelling Bollywood-style musical by acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Ishaan Khattar and Wamiqa Gabbi, is the latest proof of this endeavour.

 Apple iPhone 14

Far from a hobbyist or amateur production, and certainly, beyond any of Apple’s iPhone video ads, Fursat is Bollywood’s first non-commercial movie shot completely on an iPhone — the iPhone 14 Pro — and produced entirely by Apple India. It’s a homage to the iPhone 14 Pro’s cutting-edge video capabilities, performing at the highest levels of filmmaking in all its unrestrained glory.

In fact, the iPhone 14 Pro is the invisible star act of Fursat, which helps bring the Bollywood experience to life, not only matching up to the rigorous demands of award-winning film director Vishal Bhardwaj but surpassing all his expectations of what he thought an iPhone 14 Pro was capable of achieving.

“It’s frankly unbelievable what this tiny handheld gadget that can fit inside your pocket is able to capture through its camera,” said Vishal Bhardwaj, at a special media screening of Fursat in Mumbai. “As a device, it’s taking you out of the limitations which we had when we were growing up. We didn’t have the luxury which iPhone is providing every budding filmmaker today,” he further emphasised.

Bollywood

Apart from the iPhone 14 Pro’s overall stellar video capture experience, both Vishal Bhardwaj and Swapnil Sonawane, director of photography of Fursat, were blown away by the iPhone’s Action and Cinematic modes. Fursat’s opening sequence shows Ishan Khattar furiously sprinting through an old, tiny market alley – not unlike Aladdin running through the streets of Agrabah – crisscrossing through a maze of street sellers and pedestrian traffic. It gets your heart pumping instantly, where Swapnil Sonawane’s behind-the-lens artistry truly shines, but he humbly credited the scene’s excellent cinematography largely to the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera.

“I didn’t know how much the iPhone could handle, but the way it did was just fantastic,” said Swapnil Sonawane, who did remarkable work on Netflix’s Sacred Games, among other several claims to fame Bollywood projects. “I think Action mode is the most amazing update. For the iPhone 14 Pro to be held in your hand and run with all your might looking at the actor, one can get extremely steady shots, without an external gimbal,” he said of how he captured the running sequence of Ishaan Khatter in Fursat. Of course, we all know Action mode supports up to 2.8K resolution and 60 fps with Dolby Vision or ProRes recording to allow for uncompromising video shots.

Fursat

In another seminal ensemble scene of Fursat, shot entirely in a train compartment, where all three protagonists of Fursat are face-to-face, the iPhone 14 Pro showcases its Cinematic mode, with a beautiful depth-of-field effect and automatic focus changes to the video in 4K at 30 fps. “The way Cinematic mode shifts focus is the way the focus puller would, it's an emotional shift focus, which is what was absolutely beautiful about it,” Swapnil Sonawane emphasised about the iPhone 14 Pro.

Even Digit’s Dhriti Datta writes about these two new video modes in her review of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and its overall video quality as follows, “The video quality is the absolute best in the business on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The footage captured is smooth, true to life, has great dynamic range, and looks professional.”

Apart from Action and Cinematic modes, there are some macro and wide-angle shots, showing the full repertoire of the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera. Despite it being an ode to the iPhone 14 Pro, all said and done, Fursat is quite enjoyable – it’s a Bollywood-style musical full of songs and dances with an emotional love story at its heart, accentuated by elements of science-fiction and time travel. What’s not to like? A short and sweet tour de force by Vishal Bhardwaj, if anything the 30-minute playtime of Fursat feels a bit too short.

Ready to see what the future of filmmaking looks like? You can watch Fursat movie for free on YouTube.

Amazon is looking to ruin Tomb Raider with a new TV show updated for modern audiences

Amazon must really hate fans. The company first canned a Conan TV show because of ‘toxic masculinity’ and then destroyed the legacy of Tolkien with the blasphemous Rings of Power. Now, they’re coming for video game adaptations with the announcement of a new God of War series as well as a Tomb Raider show written by the ‘comedian’ Phoebe Waller-Bridge. With HBO’s Last of Us receiving a lot of undeserved praise, Amazon wants to cash in on the video game adaptation with their very own ‘reimagining’ and ‘retelling’ these stories for a ‘modern audience’. With the hiring of Waller-Bridge, it’s clear that they’re not looking at catering to fans but a more, ‘diverse’ and ‘inclusive’ audience. Expect the show to feature jokes that are about as funny as an autopsy and a lot of a ‘grrrl powaaahhh’ and ‘yaaas queen slay’ type of nonsense. In the words of Professor Tolkien, ‘Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made’.

Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider at the movies

The first Tomb Raider film was released in 2001 with Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft. The film was a modest success and featured a decent soundtrack to boot, with the Nine Inch Nails tune, Deep taking centre stage. It stayed relatively close to the source material and was a bit of a hit with fans. So much so that a sequel was quickly commissioned and released in 2003. Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life was a dud and halted any real momentum for video game adaptations. Then in 2018, we saw a lifeless reboot starring Alicia Vikander in the lead role. The film took inspiration from the more modern Tomb Raider games and really missed the mark when it came to fan reception.

Tomb Raider

Any good video game adaptations?

Well, there are a few great adaptations, like the first Mortal Kombat and even Sonic the Hedgehog. These films stayed true to the source material and didn't stray too far from what the games so popular. Even the first Silent Hill wasn't as bad as most people say it was. It managed to stay true to the spirit of the game. But alas, just like the rot in comic books and cinema, the ‘modern audience’ has now come for video game adaptations. God save us all!

Amazon Prime Lite is reportedly being tested in India at 999year

A new Amazon Prime subscription tier is currently under test in India. The report first came from a website named OnlyTech and was later corroborated by Gadgets360. Aptly named Amazon Prime Lite, the new Prime plan could come at ₹999 membership price and offer a trimmed-down list of benefits. Here’s what that could include:

Amazon Prime Lite vs Amazon Prime: What’s different?

Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition

First of all, Amazon Prime Lite could cost ₹999 a year which was the earlier annual subscription price of the regular Amazon Prime membership. The latter is now costlier at ₹1499 and perhaps the ₹999/year Prime Lite plan could be to attract those users who are hesitant to pay up.

The ₹999 Amazon plan could offer an ad-supported SD Prime Video experience. As for other missing features, Amazon Prime Lite doesn’t bundle Prime Music subscription, Prime Gaming, free eBooks, and no-cost EMI option while shopping on the Amazon India website.

So, while you are getting a cheaper plan, you are losing out on some important features too. If you don’t care about those, the rest of the offering is said to be the same as the regular Prime subscription.

Amazon Prime Lite availability

Amazon Prime Video logo

Amazon Prime Lite is reportedly under test in certain parts of the country. Once the beta testing is done, it should be rolled out to mainstream users. Let’s see if the new ₹999 Amazon Prime Lite offering finds substantial user interest.

Henry Cavill snubbed by DC, will not be playing Superman in future films

It looks like James Gunn and David Safran are cleaning house over in DC with sweeping changes. Good news first, Patty Jenkins is no longer attached to direct Wonder Woman 3 because she essentially couldn't take notes from the producers and let her ego get in the way of production. Films that actively mocked and went against the fanbase such as Batgirl and Supergirl were outright cancelled, signalling a new ethos courtesy of David Zaslav. This has caused a bit of a woke meltdown but since they aren’t the paying customer, it’s all just noise at this point. The one piece of bad news is that Henry Cavill will not be returning to his iconic role as Clark Kent/Superman.

          View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Henry Cavill (@henrycavill)

No more Man of Steel as Henry Cavill calls it quite on Superman

The news comes after DC head honcho James Gunn revealed that he will be writing a new Superman film. He did not say much but Henry Cavill did confirm on an Instagram post that he is done with playing the Man of Steel. In a Hollywood Reporter interview, Gunn said that he is penning a new Superman movie that will focus on Clark Kent’s younger years, working for the Daily Planet. Obviously, casting Cavill as a younger Kent is not possible so we are going to see a new Superman on screen. Gunn also stated that his Superman film will not be an origin story.

Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.

— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) December 15, 2022

It’s an interesting time for DC as the previous regime of Walter Hamada and Anne Sarnoff was hellbent on destroying its characters with identity politics, shoving agendas and The Message down the audience’s throats with horrible choices like getting known racist and political grifter Ta-nehisi Coates to write a Superman film. It was clear that the strategy was not working and that is why Warner had to clean house and start off on a new slate without the baggage of the Snyderverse and all that came with it bogging it down. The company was bleeding money and it finally looks like they are trying to steer the ship the right way.

Tohos Shin Godzilla will return to theatres next year

One of theme most iconic movie monsters in history, Godzilla will be heading back to the big screen sometime next year. This isn’t the Legendary Godzilla, but rather the original character from the Toho films. The monster first appeared back in the 50s as Japan's reaction to nuclear annihilation and has since been rebooted both in Hollywood and Japan. The 2016 Toho offering, Shin Godzilla, finally saw the king of monsters return to his roots as an existential threat and not a goofy, kong-fighting beast. The film explored the real-world ramifications of a creature such as Godzilla actually destroying Japan. Shin Godzilla was directed by Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame and was more of a think piece than an all-out monster film.

From what we can piece together, the new film will be a direct sequel to the first. It will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki who is known for Parasyte Part 1 and more. The official Twitter account tweeted out the announcement along with a logo for the film. Check it out.

There have been more than 3o films in the Godzilla series and it’s clear that the king of monsters has a special place in the hearts of fans and theatre-goers. Ever since his debut in the 50s, Godzilla has stomped his way to success on the big screen with Hollywood trying to capitalise on the trend with the god-awful 1998 Godzilla. The film changed everything about Godzilla and really wasn't about the giant lizard as much as it was about a big dinosaur. The film was directed by Roland Emmerich and was widely panned when it came out and still continues to be looked at as the black sheep of the Godzilla cinematic universe.

Finally, in 2016, Toho took the reins and gave fans and critics a Godzilla film that was worth the wait. If the new film is anything like its predecessor, we’re in for a wild ride.

WhatsApp enters the film-making business, will premiere 1st original on Prime Video

New Delhi, Sep 17 (IANS) In an unusual move, Meta-owned WhatsApp is venturing into the film-making business and will premiere its first original short film titled 'Naija Odyssey' on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.

The 12-minute short film tells the story of NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was born in Greece to Nigerian parents.

"The Greek Freak. That's not me, that's not all of me. Naija Odyssey, the cross-culture story of Giannis by WhatsApp. Stream Sept 21 on Prime Video," WhatsApp said in a tweet.

The 12-minute short film signifies WhatsApp's foray into entertainment, a first for a social media messaging platform.

However, 'Naija Odyssey" appears to be a way to promote WhatsApp as Antetokounmpo recently signed an endorsement deal with the company, another first for the platform, reports Variety.

"'Naija Odyssey' is a story that reinforces how WhatsApp helps us embrace our multifaceted lives. In navigating relationships, identity, and even adversity, WhatsApp is there a" enabling you to embrace all sides of you by connecting you to those who matter most," a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The 12-minute movie will also be released on WhatsApp's social media accounts, including its YouTube channel.

Antetokounmpo was named the 'NBA All-Star Game MVP' for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

Narrated by Antetokounmpo and his mother, 'Naija Odyssey' is inspired by the classic Greek epic poem 'The Odyssey', depicting different moments in his life.

House of the Dragon Episode 1 leaks on torrent sites, but where to watch it legally

Calling Game of Thrones (GoT) a popular show would be an understatement. Disney+ Hotstar India announces release date of Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon

The Indian premiere of House of the Dragon, a prequel to the massively popular Game of Thrones, will take place this weekend. Disney+ and Hotstar, two online video services, will simultaneously air the show's debut at the same time it airs in the United States.

Beginning on Monday, August 22 at 6:30 am IST (Indian Standard Time), you can watch new episodes online. The first season is set to consist of 10 episodes, all of which will be based on George RR Martin's book Fire and Blood. The series will tell the tale of the Targaryen Civil War, which occurred 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones."

In the novel Fire and Blood, the Targaryen dynasty struggles to choose who will succeed on the Iron Throne. The series has several parallels to the original Game of Thrones, what with the protagonists' lust for power and the subsequent struggle for the throne.

As much as Game of Thrones focused on the Targaryen dynasty and the rivalry between the Houses Stark and Lannister, House of the Dragon focuses on a single family and their struggle to determine who will succeed to the throne.

There will be some very spectacular dragon fights in this show. Since word of the show's imminent premiere spread, fans have been counting down the days. To those who have been patiently waiting for a new season of Game of Thrones since the series' official cancellation in 2019, this may come as a pleasant surprise. Fans can put their faith in this prequel series to compensate for their disappointment with the last few seasons of Game of Thrones.

YouTube Channel Store for streaming services reportedly in the works

Google-owned YouTube is working on to launch an online store like Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video to let users subscribe to other streaming services and the new platform could be available as early as this fall. According to a report in Wall Street Journal, the YouTube 'Channel Store' will allow consumers to choose streaming services through the main YouTube app. The company is already in talks with entertainment companies about participating in the YouTube marketplace. The YouTube online store "has been in the works for at least 18 months". YouTube TV already has this capability for HBO, AMC+, Showtime, and many others. "YouTube is discussing splitting subscription revenue with streaming partners, although the terms may vary widely for each partner," the report mentioned. The pitch is that the new YouTube channel store would offer great marketing for streaming services because "consumers could watch trailers of shows or movies free on YouTube and then easily pay to subscribe to the service". YouTube in 2020 for the first time discussed launching an online streaming video store. Walmart is also planning to add streaming services as a new perk to its membership programme. Netflix and other streaming services will be part of Verizon's new Plus Play subscription manager.

Netflix Ad-Supported Subscription Plan Will Be Powered By Microsoft

Back in April 2022, Netflix revealed it is losing scores of subscribers and as desperate times call for desperate measures, the company said it will be launching an ad-tier subscription plan. Now months later, the streaming platform has announced Microsoft as its Technology and sales partner. Let’s see what both tech giants have to say about their newly born partnership.

Netflix And Microsoft Partnership For The Netflix Ad Plan

Netflix

Netflix has posted in its newsroom that the lower-priced ad-supported subscription plan would be “in addition to our existing ads-free basic, standard and premium plans”. Just the other month, co-chief executive Ted Sarandos said to the press, “We're not adding ads to Netflix as you know it today. We're adding an ad tier for folks who say 'Hey, I want a lower price and I'll watch ads'”.

On why it chose Microsoft as its partner or what would Microsoft do for Netflix, the latter’s response is that “Microsoft has the proven ability to support all our advertising needs as we work together to build a new ad-supported offering. More importantly, Microsoft offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales side, as well as strong privacy protections for our members”.

Microsoft

Meanwhile, the Microsoft blog shines a light on what this partnership means for the Redmond-based company. It notes that “Marketers looking to Microsoft for their advertising needs will have access to the Netflix audience and premium connected TV inventory”.

Besides this, we don’t have much new information on the Netflix Ad-supported plan still. But, this new update suggests it won’t take too long. We’ll see.

Your Netflix Account Will Be Banned If You Break These Rules

Your Netflix account is under threat and can be banned if you break these certain rules. Recently, Netflix announced that they are putting a ban on password-sharing features after the video streaming giant lost about 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022 there is a clampdown on repeat offenders which could lead them barred from Netflix. Reportedly, the app was testing a surcharge of $2.99 to the subscribers who were sharing their passwords with other household members. So if you are a Netflix user in the UK, you should stop sharing your password with others or else your account will be banned. But, this is not the only reason, there are certain rules in place to try and stop users from breaking them but if they're not followed customers could see their accounts locked or even banned.

Listed below are some of the things which you should stop doing, in order to continue binge-watching your favourite shows.

Do not share your Netflix passwords outside of your households:

Password sharing has already been banned, but millions of users have overlooked the rules. after the streaming platform witnessed a massive drop for the first time in the past decade. And if you do so, the company might not completely ban your account but can surcharge for the second profile. This feature has already been tested in some countries. But if you keep on doing this, your account can be banned technically, if the company people decide to do so.

Stop using a VPN for Netflix:

Usage of VPN, which stands for Virtual Private Network, has been very common over the years, it tricks the site into believing that the person using it is in another country. This means when you're using a VPN and accessing Netflix, you can watch shows and movies that have been released in other countries before their own.

However, the thing with Netflix is that it allows users to watch the content which is available in their home country.

Even Netflix’s terms clearly states that, “You may access the Netflix content primarily within the country in which you have established your account and only in geographic locations where we offer our services and have licensed such content.” This clearly states that using a VPN to access content on Netflix is a breach of the terms and is a technical ground to ban your account. However, rather than a complete ban users will be issued with a warning to stop using a VPN.

Do not create your own copies of Netflix:

Netflix also doesn’t allow its users to create their own copies. According to the terms of Netflix, “ not to archive, reproduce, distribute, modify, display, perform, publish, license, create derivative works from offer for sale ”anything on the platform. “We may terminate or restrict your use of our service if you violate these Terms of Use or are engaged in illegal or fraudulent use of the service.” Modern streaming sites which witness users violating their terms of use by engaging in illegal practices will get banned from the sites.

YouTube Music Season Recap 2022: How to View the Spring Recap

YouTube is a jump ahead of Spotify with its Season Rewind playlist feature. Well, besides playlists, the service offers you a list of your most played artists, songs, albums, etc in the previous season. It will be a recurring thing and is poised to come out every season. Meanwhile, its biggest competitor Spotify’s Wrapped is a bop every time it lands but is limited to annual appearance. There in lies one big difference between the two approaches. Let’s see what else you could expect out of the new YouTube Music feature.

Like the YouTube Recap 2021, this one too would share personalized listening stats.

YouTube calls this “an exploration of your top artists, songs, albums and playlists over the last season”.

To view it, you just need to go to music.youtube.com/recap or the landing page on the YouTube Music app for Android and iOS.

Right now, only some users have got the spring Youtube Music playlist. But the company must be rolling it out in a phased manner.

Once you have the YouTube seasonal recap, you get to share it easily. After all, boosting engagement and reach are the goals behind such initiatives by the streaming platforms.

YouTube Music Seasonal Recap 2022

Thus, YouTube promises both seasonal and annual music recaps along with other stats and features.

So like the Spotify compilation which has inspired the new YouTube recap feature, let’s see if the latter manages to gain traction and have the same level of popularity if not one-up the competition.
