Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch

The new Apple MacBook Pro powered by the new M1 processor by Apple sets an incredible new standard. This applies to both performance and battery life. This machine can easily take on photo and video editing in any of the popular applications like Adobe Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and more. Amidst this kind of performance, you can also expect exceptional battery life, with almost 6 hours of continuous editing and nearly 18 hours if you just stick to the normal workloads. There's hardly anything to fault here, and we're talking about the base, entry-level machine!

Apple’s managed to pull off a phenomenal 2020 with respect to product launches, despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing major disruptions. The company not only launched their usual slew of products but also managed to get a completely new product out into the market; the M1 chips, which power the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13-inch and Mac Mini. We have with us the MacBook Pro 13” for review and most of what is said for this machine would be applicable to the MacBook Air and even the Mac Mini, to a large extent. So, is this the new M1 chip as revolutionary as everyone’s making it out to be? We have the definitive answer.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Performance

The Apple MacBook Pro 13” we got for review is the base variant, which comes with the M1 SoC (8 CPU cores, 8 GPU cores), 8GB memory and 256GB storage. This configuration costs Rs 1,22,900, and I suspect that most people who want to go for this machine, would be going with this configuration. Testing the M1-based Mac does bring some challenges as traditional benchmarking tools do end up taking a performance hit due to the Rosetta 2 translation layer. So our testing stuck to more real-world applications and real-world use. For some context, I have migrated from a top-of-the-line 16-inch MacBook Pro to an M1-based MacBook Pro and the transition has been flawless. Let me explain.

If you’re a video content creator, you’ll be happy to know that FCP is already fully optimized for the M1 Macs. This means that you get the same well-optimized experience. In terms of render times, the 5-minute clip (4K to 1080p) was exported in 53 seconds, flat. The project has significant colour grading applied to each clip along with transitions and finally, a number of text and animation layers to top off the project. The 16-inch MacBook Pro, in comparison, takes 58 seconds to complete the same render. If you favour Adobe’s video editor Premiere Pro, the company just released a beta version designed for the M1 chip, and we will be testing that thoroughly.

For now, our testing used the Intel Mac version of Premiere Pro, running via the Rosetta 2 translation layer. Exporting the same 4K project into a 1080p file, the MacBook Pro 13” fell behind the Intel version by a few seconds. This is mighty impressive, seeing how the render is happening via an emulation layer. Similarly, for Adobe Lightroom Classic, there’s no M1 version available, but even via emulation, the popular photo editor from Adobe works flawlessly, delivering speed and performance matching that of the Intel Core i9 powered 16-inch MacBook Pro. The best part is, the fan on the MacBook Pro 13” barely ever kicks in, and when it does, it’s barely even audible. The fan does help in keeping the chip cool, allowing sustained performance which is especially handy for lengthy renders. Honestly, this 13-inch MacBook Pro is going toe to toe with the Intel Core i9-based 16-inch MacBook Pro in terms of its performance, while costing less than half the price. But, it gets way better.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Battery Life

The whole allure of Apple’s silicon is that these chips were said to offer significantly improved performance in comparison to their Intel counterparts while consuming significantly less power. And boy, does it deliver. On day-to-day usage alone, I am charging the MacBook Pro once in 3 to 4 days. This is with the machine being used mostly to type up documents, research stories on the web, gratuitous amounts of using WhatsApp while having Spotify running for most of the time. The sound was sometimes coming via the onboard speakers and something streamed via a Bluetooth headset. On days when I had to edit a number of photos in Adobe Lightroom Classic (still running via the Rosetta 2 translation layer), I would still be able to use the MacBook Pro for 2 days between charges.

According to the Mac’s own battery usage widget, the highest screen on time I got was a little over 9 hours, but that was on days when nothing more than basic programs such as browsers and word processors were used. Music and WhatsApp were still a part of this usage pattern. There are so many ways to say the same thing here; battery life on the MacBook Pro 13” is beyond impressive and is something you won’t have to worry about on a day-to-day basis. There’s also an “optimize battery charging” mode which learns from your usage and charging patterns in order to maximise the life span of your Mac’s battery.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Display

The MacBook Pro 13” actually houses a display measuring 13.3-inches with an aspect ratio of 16:10. The resolution on this panel is 2560x1600 and the panel type is IPS-LCD. Colour spaces supported are sRGB, Adobe RGB and of course, DCI-P3. Unfortunately, we were not able to use our colourimeter to measure the panel’s quality aspect due to an incompatibility between the calibration software and the M1 Mac. What we were able to do was edit a few images on the M1 Mac using Adobe Lightroom Classic and then reviewing those images on a calibrated monitor. The colour reproduction was spot on, leading us to conclude that the Apple MacBook Pro 13” has its display calibrated to perfection when it comes to the sRGB colour space. We will be diving deep into other aspects of the panel once the software is updated for compatibility. Lastly, this is also a very bright panel, clocking 430-nits of brightness in the centre. The display is capable of both HDR10 and Dolby Vision content from your preferred source.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Compatibility and Usage

The M1 Macs are a huge departure from their Intel counterparts in some notable ways. The foremost concern of these changes is app-compatibility. Apple promised a smooth transition, and they’ve mostly delivered on those promises. When setting up the Apple MacBook Pro 13” for review, most of the common apps we use were not yet optimized for the M1 chip. This includes the Adobe suite of applications, MS Office, Handbrake and of course, plugins for Photoshop and Lightroom. At the time of testing, all of these tools were running as smooth and reliably as they do on an Intel-based Mac. The only notable difference here would be that apps that have to be run through the Rosetta 2 translation layer take around 30 seconds to launch but only on the first launch. Subsequent startups are fast, up until you reboot. It’s quite surprising the speed with which major software makers have released M1-optimised versions of their applications. BlackMagic has released DaVinci Resolve 17.1 with native support for M1 Macs. Adobe’s Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Premiere Rush and Audition are all available as public betas and very much functional. Microsoft has updated the Office suite as well. All this within just a month and a half of the machines being announced. We expect most developers to start porting their apps over to at least the universal binary, if not a native M1 version in the near future.

Running iOS and iPadOS Apps on M1 Macs

Now, one of the most exciting things about the Macs moving over to ARM-based architecture is the fact that it’s now possible to run iOS and iPadOS apps on the Mac. The Mac App Store in fact now has a section for iOS and iPadOS apps that have been made available for the Mac, but unfortunately, none of the popular are available via this route. However, if you can get your hands on an IPA file for the app you want to run, you can simply install it like you would any regular app, and it will run just fine. There are, however, some challenges. For example, Instagram isn’t available on the Mac, but we were able to get the official IPA file for Instagram and install it on the Apple MacBook Pro 13”. However, upon running the app, I was greeted by a tiny window and a hard-to-use user interface. This is because Instagram is only available for the iPhone and hence, the content runs in a tiny window that cannot be resized. Also, the app is designed keeping touch-based navigation in mind, so using a keyboard and trackpad to work it is a little on the harder side. Similarly, we also managed to get Call of Duty: Mobile for iPadOS installed on the Apple MacBook Pro 13” and after a few minutes into a match, was banned. This could be due to running the app in an environment it’s not meant for. Currently, the selection of iOS and iPadOS apps available via the Mac App Store is still rather weak, but hopefully, that will change in the coming months.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Sound

The MacBook Pro 13” continues Apple’s track record of housing some of the best sounding speakers in the market. This machine does not come with the force-cancellation sub-woofers we find on the bigger 16-inch model, but these speakers are still well within the realm of impressive. Whether it's watching movies or listening to music, the MacBook Pro 13” delivers excellent clarity even at its loudest. On many occasions, I find myself using the onboard speakers instead of using headphones, and still have a good listening experience.

Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1 Keyboard, Trackpad and I/O

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro uses the scissor switches in its keyboards, the same ones found on the Magic Keyboard. The typing experience is really nice on this keyboard thanks to its short,

but firm travel. What makes the typing experience even better is that you don’t necessarily need to strike the centre of the key to register the keystroke. The touchbar has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism, but I actually find it quite helpful, especially when it comes to adjusting the volume or changing the brightness. Even with applications like MS Word, Excel, Safari and even Spotify, the touchbar provides quicker access to the most logical of setting options. Then there’s the trackpad, a little glass rectangle that has continued to set the benchmark for the rest of the industry. Lastly, you get two USB-C ports that conform to the USB4 standard, the same as Thunderbolt 3.0.

Should you buy the Apple MacBook Pro 13” M1

To put it simply, the Apple MacBook Pro 13” is simply astounding. For the longest time, the lack of a discrete GPU put the older 13-inch MacBook Pro at a weaker standing, especially when it came to video workloads. With a complete switch in architecture, this machine is squeezing out performance metrics that parallel the top-of-the-line Intel-based MacBook Pro. And it's not like this performance is coming at any notable cost. You’re still getting ridiculously good battery life, all while the machine maintains things like a great colour accurate display, a great keyboard and a really nice and accurate trackpad as standard. There are, however, a few things to be very mindful of. If you’re a video-based content creator, you’re going to want not just 16GB RAM, but also at least a terabyte of storage. If you’re a photographer or a music producer, you could do with slightly lower storage, but I still strongly recommend 16GB RAM. If you’re a hobbyist photographer, filmmaker or a music producer, you could get away with 8GB RAM as it will run everything super smooth and without a hiccup, but professionals would want better longevity. If content creation isn’t your jam, just go with the MacBook Air, which will offer very similar levels of performance and battery life, but just won’t be suitable for long renders due to a fanless design.

Reliance Jio to resume offering free domestic calls to any network from January 1

Reliance Jio has announced that it will resume offering free domestic calls to any network from January 1. This comes after the company started charging for calls to other networks at 6 paise per minute due to the extension given by TRAI for the Bill and Keep regime. The new rule will dissolve any IUC (interconnected usage charges) that’s levied for domestic calls.

“Honouring its commitment to revert off-net domestic voice-call charges to zero, as soon as IUC charges are abolished, Jio will once again make all off-net domestic voice calls free, starting 1st January 2021,” Jio said in a media statement.

While the company was charging users for calls made to other networks it continued to offer free voice calls between Jio-to-Jio users. Previously, IUC charges were levied on off-net calls which were reduced from 14 paise to 6 paise per minute. The implementation of the Bill and Keep regime will abolish any IUC charges going further. TRAI is slated to implement this new regime from January 1 after which all domestic calls made between Jio to other networks will be free.

Reliance Jio has previously stated how it was paying IUC charges to rival telcos Airtel and erstwhile Vodafone (now Vi) to the tune of Rs 13,500 crores. At the time, Jio revealed that it received 25-30 crores missed calls from other networks which converts to callbacks from Jio users for which the company was paying IUC charges.

“Jio stands firm on its commitment to make the common Indian the beneficiary of advanced technologies like VoLTE. Jio is a customer-obsessed organization and cares for every single user. All our users enjoy free voice calls with Jio,” the company said.

Vi has also released a statement reiterating that domestic calls to other networks will continue to remain free after TRAI implements the Bill and Keep regime. “For all Vi Unlimited pack users, domestic calls to other networks anywhere in India, has always been free and will continue to be free 1st Jan 2021 onwards as well,” said a VIL spokesperson.

The Redmi Note 9T with Dimensity 800U has been spotted on Geekbench

The alleged Redmi Note 9T has been listed on Geekbench with some interesting information about the phone. As per the listing, the phone comes with a CPU model name ARM MT6853T, which seems to be associated with the Dimensity 800U series of SoCs.

Geekbench lists the model number as M2007J22G on the website, and as per the report on Thailand’s NTBC certification this is the same model number as Redmi Note 9T. According to the information on the website, the phone might just come with 4GB of RAM and runs on Android 10. The model in China comes with a 6GB/64GB RAM and storage configuration. There were no reports or news of any 4GB model in China.

Redmi Note 9T 5G (M2007J22G) Gets NBTC Certification. I Think Redmi Note 9T 5G Will Launch This Month Globally. pic.twitter.com/BLkOdfqDBU

— Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) December 1, 2020

The model is expected to come as a rebranded Redmi Note 9 5G  which was launched last month. The Chinese model bears the model number M2007J22C, while the global model comes with model number M2007J22G. It will be interesting to see how competitive the phone is priced in the global market. The details on the website might just be of a test model that the company might be testing out, and it could release the phone in the global market with updated software and RAM configurations.

The processor information is identified as the Dimensity 800U because this is the same processor SKU listed when the Chinese variant of this phone was spotted on Geekbench. This suggests that the global version of the Redmi Note 9T will come with the same processor as the variant in China. Apart from the Geekbench listing, there is very little information about the phone, Xiaomi has not posted or revealed any information about the device, but through many leaks and bits of information about the device it can be said that Xiaomi is definitely working on making the phone official.

Google Photos is now rolling out a Year in Review recap

Earlier this month, Google announced that it would be adding recent highlights, memories, and designs and now as the year is coming to an end, Google have also included a “Year in Review” highlight and lets you generate a 2020 photo book.

The “Year in review” will show users a recap of the last 12 months through photos, as reported by 9to5Google. The feature will first be available in the Memories carousel on both Android and iOS with no option for the web. You can tap the edges of the screen to move forward or backward while a long press and hold would do pauses. The date and location of the photos are available on the top with an overflow button to view all the photos for that day.

The “Preview book” feature lets you create an annual photo book with a few photos that you might like already added to the memories. You can edit this book by adding or removing photos from each page. The preview book also has a ‘Cover and spine' and an ‘Inside cover' feature that can be edited as well.

The feature is not yet available to all the users and is seen to have been rolling out in phases. There are a few users on Twitter reporting that the feature is accessible on their device. Also, this time around the naming scheme of the yearbook has changed a bit, as up until 2019 the photo creation toll was called the “Best of 20XX”, while for this year it seems to have a plain and simple “Year in review”. Nonetheless, you can change the name of the photo book yourself.

Call of Duty: Mobiles Chinese version hints at new additions to Battle Royale mode

Call of Duty: Mobile recently launched a special version of the game in China. As it turned out, the Chinese version of the game packed a whole host of new features that haven’t yet made it to the global version of the game, especially in the Battle Royale mode, where it seems like the Chinese version of Call of Duty: Mobile has taken cues from Call of Duty: Warzone. It should be noted that while all this is available in the Chinese version, it does not automatically guarantee that they will make their way to the standard version of the game.

Here are some of the new additions players have seen in the Chinese version of the game.

A new vehicle

The Chinese version of the game seems to have a truck added to the game, in addition to the current crop of vehicles like the Antelope, ATV and the tank. It’s not yet known exactly how the truck will serve any specific function. It should be noted that Warzone also features a truck.

Self-revive

The Chinese version of Call of Duty: Mobile also lets players self-revive in Battle Royale. Right now, only teammates are able to revive downed teammates. With self-revive, outright killing enemy team members becomes just as important as taking them down.

Buying stations

It seems like buying stations will be added to the map in Battle Royale. While there are such stations in the game already, most are limited to the Black Market area. The Chinese version sprinkles them all over the map, letting players buy anything from weapons, to class upgrades. There also seems to be an option to buy back fallen teammates.

New health and armour system

Right now, the healing system in Call of Duty: Mobile’s Battle Royale Mode is pretty straightforward. You get health packs that let you heal, while armour helps absorb certain damage. The Chinese version of the game apparently eschews health items in favour of armour plates. These armour plates can help improve the overall health of the player by up to three levels, with each plate adding one level. As for the base health of the user, that will regenerate, similar to multiplayer mode

Besides all this, there are also reports that Call of Duty: Mobile may introduce the gulag system of revival. Along with a bunch of other changes. You can check out more in the video below.

OnePlus Band leaked as the companys first wearable, could debut alongside OnePlus 9 series in 2021

OnePlus Band could be the name of the first wearable from the company, as per the latest leak. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has already confirmed that they are planning to launch the rumoured OnePlus Watch in early 2021. The company could likely announce the OnePlus Band and Watch alongside the OnePlus 9 series that’s rumoured to launch in mid-March 2021.

According to a report by Android Central that cites insider sources, OnePlus Band has been pegged as the first smart wearable device by the company and will launch in Q1 2021 at a price of around $40. With this, OnePlus wants to go up against the Xiaomi’s affordable Mi Band fitness tracker range. The report indicates a price tag of under Rs 3,000 ($40) for the OnePlus Band that could debut in India first.

As per the information in the report, the OnePlus Band could be announced ahead of the OnePlus 9 series sometime in late-January or early-February. The OnePlus Band is said to share a lot in common with the Mi Band 5 with features like AMOLED screen, water-resistance and long battery life.

OnePlus Band could get announced ahead of the OnePlus 9 series

OnePlus has been very transparent about entering into the smart wearable segment and has been developing a smartwatch since 2015. OnePlus had a design for a smartwatch back in the day but shelved it to focus more on its smartphone ecosystem. Some earlier reports have tipped the OnePlus Watch to feature a round dial and will run on a WearOS system.

The company CEO Pete Lau has also stated that they are working with Google and want to improve the synergy between smart devices like televisions and smartwatches. The OnePlus Watch, as it is rumoured to be called, is due out in early 2021, but we still don’t know much about it since the company is keeping everything under wraps for now.

Nevertheless, we can expect OnePlus to launch multiple products across smartphones and smart wearables in early 2021. There could be individual launches planned for the next year, or it could happen alongside the OnePlus 9 series launch. We will know more about the OnePlus Band and OnePlus Watch in the coming weeks and will be sure to keep you updated.

Caviars PS5 Golden Rock Edition console makes rappers look plain and refined

The design of the Sony PlayStation 5 is already pretty wild when it comes to consoles, thanks to its gigantic size, curves and lighting. In fact, compared to the Xbox Series X, one might even call it flashy. But what if wasn't flashy enough? What if you want it ostentatious enough to rival Dubai? Well, Caviar’s PlayStation 5 Golden Rock Edition might just be what the doctor ordered.

This ‘special edition’ of the PS5 lives up to its name by being decked out in enough gold to make Bappi Lahiri proud. In fact, the company claims that the console will be “assembled from 8 sheets, cast in solid gold. About 20 Kilograms of gold were used to create it.” So make sure your table is strong enough to take the extra weight.

Caviar further elaborates, “The case of this exclusive gadget is made in the original jewellery technique, which adds volume and texture to the model. The inspiration for the designers was the unique geometry of the gold ore and the graceful, beautiful outlines of the rock. That is why the console was named Golden Rock.”

The company also customised the PS5 DualSense gamepad just as ostentatiously. The controller now features grips made with Crocodile leather, along with gold inserts.

The price of this console has not been revealed, but rest assured that most of us reading (and definitely the one writing) this piece cannot afford it. Oh, well. At least we can still buy the standard PS5 console. Not wait, we can’t do that either as the console hasn’t officially been launched in India yet!

Apple AirPods Pro 2 leak suggests it could arrive in two sizes in 2021

A known Apple insider who goes by the alias, Mr White, has tweeted out a few details about the upcoming AirPods Pro 2. Going by Mr. White’s previous leaks, that have been relatively accurate, the current leak seems to suggest that the new wearables/hearables from Apple might be offered in two different sizes.

Apple AirPods internals

The shared images show the internal hardware of AirPods Pro and Pro 2, and we can see that there are two different pieces of hardware. They do look similar and probability function similarly too, but come in different sizes.

AirPods vs AirPods 2

The other image shows it being compared to the previous generation of AirPods Pro, the two on the left side (image above) are from the new AirPods while the seemingly black cables on the right are the older AirPods. As per the images and Mr White, it seems that one pair could come in a standard size while the other could be a little larger.

As per previous rumours shared by Bloomberg and MacRumours, the second generation of AirPods Pro should come in a more compact and rounded design which would remove the stem that current-gen AirPods Pro offer.

Other rumours have hinted at the Apple AirPods Pro 2 shipping with a newer chip, but as per Mr White’s tweet, it seems that the new design might still come with the W2 chip in them. Unfortunately, all the reports have not been confirmed, so do take this news with a grain of salt.

The LG Stylo 7 comes with a stylus that slots into the device just like the Note series. The famous leaker, Steve Hemmerstoffer aka OnLeaks shared some high-quality images of the device on voice.com.

The phone shows relatively thick bezels and has a large chin at the bottom with a hole-punch camera positioned at the center of the screen. According to sources, there should be two variants of the LG Stylo 7, one with network capabilities upto 4G/LTE and the other supporting 5G networks.

The LG Stylo 7 leaked renders

On the back of the phone, it clearly shows a triple rear camera setup with a vertical camera module, the camera bump is expected to be upto 10mm thick. The phone comes with a large 6.8-inch flat display with phone dimensions of about 170.4 x 77.2 x 8.8mm. In the renders, we can see that the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner fused with the power button. The phone also houses in the reminiscent 3.5mm jack for audiophiles.

The slot for the stylus is located to the right side of the USB-C port and the speaker grill lies in between the type-c port and the stylus. The bottom left side houses the 3.5mm audio jack, while the volume rockers are present on the left side of the device.

Unfortunately, there are no more details about the configuration of the device or even a speculated release date. LG has not shared any information or a teaser about the device either. New Motorola phone with a curved design and a punch-hole display leaked

Motorola has been reportedly working to take on the smartphone industry by launching flagship models in the coming year. The current market set by the company consists of mainly budget segment phones from its G lineup and the innovative Razr foldable phone. As per reports, Motorola has launched fewer phones in China in the past two years.

The new renders suggest that the company is in the process of designing a new flagship product. The renders of the new phone are floating around the web. These renders may be fan-made, but the images hint at the new design of the flagship phone from Motorola.

New motorola flagship leaked renders

From the images, we can see that the phone sports a punch-hole camera in the middle of the screen. The front of the phone is equipped with a four-curved full screen with a slightly larger curvature, which sports a higher screen to body ratio. At the back of the phone, we can see that the upper half of the phone consists of a rectangular camera module with three to four cameras.

At the back, the signature Motorola dimple seems to be missing, so it could be that the phone comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor as well. The device seems to be the successor to the flagship Motorola Edge +, with the curved design. The Motorola Edge + came with a Snapdragon 865 SoC. The rumoured Motorola flagship for the year 2021, The Motorola Nio might be this phone but there is no confirmed news about the product.

Motorola is expected to launch a Snapdragon 888 powered smartphone next year. So this could be exactly that, or it could be a new phone, but there is no real info on that as of now.

OnePlus 9 series wont feature periscope camera, will continue using a normal telephoto lens: Report

The OnePlus 9 series is looking unlikely to sport a periscope camera and will continue using the normal telephoto camera, according to the latest leak. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro is rumoured to launch sometime in mid-March 2021 and early leaks and rumours have given us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming OnePlus smartphones.

According to a post by popular tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the OnePlus 9 series uses a normal telephoto camera and won’t go for a periscope-style camera system. There is no word if the standard OnePlus 9 will also come equipped with a telephoto camera however, previous reports have indicated that it could have a 12MP telephoto camera.

There are also speculations based on some reports that OnePlus could be collaborating with Lecia to improve the photography performance of the upcoming OnePlus 9 lineup. However, that is something we can only be sure of until the official announcement happens. Recently, Vivo announced its partnership with Zeiss optics for the X60 series that was launched officially on December 29.

OnePlus could be collaborating with Lecia

Moreover, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are expected to be joined by OnePlus 9 Lite which is likely a toned-down version of the OnePlus 9 and could sit between the OnePlus Nord and standard OnePlus 9. Very little is known about the OnePlus 9 at the moment, that said, it is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor under the hood as opposed to the Snapdragon 888 that will power the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro.

The OnePlus 9 series has leaked previously along with CAD renders of the OnePlus 9 Pro. A pre-production unit was also leaked just weeks back and showed-off the prototype design of the OnePlus 9. The OnePlus 9 is rumoured to feature a  6.55-inch Full HD+ display while the OnePlus 9 Pro gets a slightly larger 6.7-inch display. The phones could opt for a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera with support for 120Hz high refresh rate.

OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a triple camera setup on the back headlined by a 50MP primary camera, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera with OIS support. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are also likely to support 65W fast charging out-of-the-box that debuted with the OnePlus 8T in October.

Apple is reportedly working on a clamshell design for a foldable iPhone

The rumours about Apple working on a foldable iPhone have been in the news since they first filed a patent for a foldable display back in 2017. Since then, we have had several reports of Apple working on foldable displays, But, this time around, the prolific leaker Jon Prosser issued an update the newest Apple foldable iPhone.

In a video posted by Jon Prosser, he states that Apple is working on a clamshell design for the foldable iPhone, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. The prototype of this design was seen in several leaks and the tech giant is testing the shells for durability, with their main focus being the hinge of the device.

“This clamshell foldable iPhone will actually feature a foldable display. I am told it will feature a folding OLED display supplied by Samsung...I am told we will not get both versions of a foldable iPhone. Like Samsung has Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip. No. It will be just this (clamshell) or other (book-style folding), at least at first,” he said in the video.

A report earlier in November claimed that Apple was receiving sample foldable displays from manufacturers such as Foxconn and New Niko, and if the testing succeeds in the given time frame then we might see a foldable iPhone by September 2022.

Foldable phones are still in the emerging stages and only a few companies have been releasing their foldable phones in the commercial marketplace. Foldable phones still fall into the category of luxury items as they have a higher price and will likely have the early adopter tax attached to them. Apple releasing a foldable phone might make the space more competitive. We will just have to wait and see.

OnePlus 9 pre-production unit leaked, sold for 6,000 on eBay

The OnePlus 9 pre-production unit that was leaked earlier this month has apparently been sold for $6,000 on eBay. The pictures were first posted by PhoneArena but soon after a listing of the same or a similar prototype unit surfaced on eBay priced at $3,000. As per PhoneArena, the device in question was a T-Mobile variant but the one listed on eBay is an unlocked version that’s compatible with all GSM carriers.

This particular listing was taken down shortly afterwards as few images of the OnePlus 9 prototype contained device identifiers that would have easily led the company to track the owner of the phone. The OnePlus 9 prototype surfaced again in a new listing but at $6,000. The seller added a text in the new listing that says, “I am not responsible for oneplus erasing this phone or anything they may do to the phone after purchase period. If you purchase this you agree to those terms.”

It will probably be very, very easy for OnePlus to trace this device back to its owner. I don't know what compels people to put up prototype devices for sale online, especially without even redacting identifiable information.

The listing now has a sold-out tag indicating that someone actually managed to purchase the device. Do note that this is not the final production unit and a lot could change between now and the final product that is rumoured to launch sometime in mid-March 2021.

OnePlus 9 pre-production unit

OnePlus 9 series has been leaked previously with reports hinting that OnePlus 9 Lite could be joining the fray. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor while the OnePlus 9 Lite is rumoured to launch with Snapdragon 865 under the hood.

The OnePlus 9 could feature a 6.55-inch display as per the leaks, while the OnePlus 9 is said to feature a slightly bigger 6.7-inch screen. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will likely opt for a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and support 120Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a triple camera setup on the back headlined by a 50MP primary camera, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera with OIS support. There are also rumours that the standard OnePlus 9 could skip the telephoto lens and get a macro camera instead. As per the latest report, OnePlus could collaborate with Lecia optics to improve the camera performance of the OnePlus 9 series.

The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are also likely to support 65W fast charging out-of-the-box that debuted with the OnePlus 8T in October.
