OnePlus 11R render looks a lot like the current OnePlus flagship

OnePlus 11R render might give you deja vu as it resembles the OnePlus 11 in looks. The similarity in its rear camera housing is the key reason for this. The button placement looks different though. The images come from Ice Universe who refers to the device as OnePlus Ace 2, which as you may know is the branding for the device in China.

OnePlus 11R render leak: What it reveals

OnePlus 11R

OnePlus seems to be reusing the design of the OnePlus 11 for 11R. At least, the rear camera housing which is a key design differentiator for Android phones looks quite similar between the two OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 11R render shows three cameras and a flash lens sitting on a round island. The island is connected to the side frame of the device via a glossy bridge (probably made of stainless steel).

The 11R appears to be flanked by the volume rockers on the right side. The SIM tray may also sit on that side. The left side, meanwhile, seems to have the power key (which could also double as the fingerprint reader), and the OnePlus signature Alert Slider.

OnePlus 11R could come in a silver hue with a tinge of blue. Silver blue might just be one of the many colourways on sale. It’s a refreshing colour and we would love to see this variant.

Let’s see what else we know about the forthcoming OnePlus smartphone.

OnePlus 11R specs (Expected)

The next generation of power is here. It's time to get ready for a new way to experience the #ShapeofPower with the all-new #OnePlus11R 5G.

— OnePlus India (@OnePlus_IN) January 27, 2023

Is OnePlus going to release an Android Tablet New teaser seems to suggest so

After being in the Android phone market for almost a decade, OnePlus is now venturing into the tablet market. A teaser on the company's website reveals a green tablet with a prominent rear-facing camera. OnePlus has an event scheduled for February 7th, where it is expected to unveil the new OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Buds Pro 2, but the "OnePlus Pad" may also make an appearance as per TechRadar. The teaser shows an aluminium-framed tablet with narrow bezels around the screen and a small front-facing camera above the screen, but no further details are available on the hardware or screen size.

OnePlus Tablet, tablets

What does the OnePlus Pad teaser indicate?

The teaser for the upcoming "OnePlus Pad" suggests that the tablet will have a smooth, high-performance display. The tagline in the promotional image, "smooth without equal," could be referring to the refresh rate or internal specifications. As OnePlus is known for incorporating the latest technology, it's possible that the tablet will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, similar to the expected hardware in the OnePlus 11 phone. This would make it a noteworthy competitor in the tablet market, as Samsung's high-end tablet lineup is not expected to be updated until later in the year.

OnePlus Tablet, tablets

Most OEMs have left the tablet market

For years, many Android OEMs have been slowly leaving the tablet market as Google neglected to focus on larger form factors. Currently, only Samsung and Amazon offer notable tablet options, with Samsung providing powerful, yet costly tablets and Amazon catering to the lower-end market. However, the market for tablets is in need of something in between, and the OnePlus Pad could be the solution.

This is also a good time for OnePlus to take the leap into the tablet market as Google has begun to pay attention to larger-format Android again. With the recent updates to Android, such as Android 12 and 13, which added essential multitasking and UI features for tablets and foldable, OnePlus can create a tablet without having to develop its own interface from scratch. Although Android still has a way to go to catch up to iPadOS, it has certainly improved in the past year.

Amazon is looking to ruin Tomb Raider with a new TV show updated for modern audiences

Amazon must really hate fans. The company first canned a Conan TV show because of ‘toxic masculinity’ and then destroyed the legacy of Tolkien with the blasphemous Rings of Power. Now, they’re coming for video game adaptations with the announcement of a new God of War series as well as a Tomb Raider show written by the ‘comedian’ Phoebe Waller-Bridge. With HBO’s Last of Us receiving a lot of undeserved praise, Amazon wants to cash in on the video game adaptation with their very own ‘reimagining’ and ‘retelling’ these stories for a ‘modern audience’. With the hiring of Waller-Bridge, it’s clear that they’re not looking at catering to fans but a more, ‘diverse’ and ‘inclusive’ audience. Expect the show to feature jokes that are about as funny as an autopsy and a lot of a ‘grrrl powaaahhh’ and ‘yaaas queen slay’ type of nonsense. In the words of Professor Tolkien, ‘Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made’.

Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider at the movies

The first Tomb Raider film was released in 2001 with Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft. The film was a modest success and featured a decent soundtrack to boot, with the Nine Inch Nails tune, Deep taking centre stage. It stayed relatively close to the source material and was a bit of a hit with fans. So much so that a sequel was quickly commissioned and released in 2003. Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life was a dud and halted any real momentum for video game adaptations. Then in 2018, we saw a lifeless reboot starring Alicia Vikander in the lead role. The film took inspiration from the more modern Tomb Raider games and really missed the mark when it came to fan reception.

Tomb Raider

Any good video game adaptations?

Well, there are a few great adaptations, like the first Mortal Kombat and even Sonic the Hedgehog. These films stayed true to the source material and didn't stray too far from what the games so popular. Even the first Silent Hill wasn't as bad as most people say it was. It managed to stay true to the spirit of the game. But alas, just like the rot in comic books and cinema, the ‘modern audience’ has now come for video game adaptations. God save us all!

New images of the Google Pixel Tablet show off the expected specs and design

Android tipster Kuba Wojciechowski has recently revealed that there will be a single version of the Pixel Tablet, as opposed to earlier speculations regarding there being vanilla and Pro versions. The concept of the Pixel Tablet was first revealed at the I/O 2022 event in May 2022. Wojciechowski has posted images of the first-generation Tensor chip and the Tensor G2 chips.

Google Pixel Tablet updates

It was believed that the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Tablet Pro are called “Tangor” and “Tangorpro”, respectively. However, according to Wojciechowski, the Tangor project has been cancelled. We may only see variants of the Pixel Tablet that will be equipped with the Tensor G2 chip. The tablet is also claimed to offer 8 GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of Kioxia UFS storage. It may also come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

I have also been provided with a few photos of the device. pic.twitter.com/ctKWQoVDCT

— Kuba Wojciechowski(@Za_Raczke) January 26, 2023 Google Pixel Tablet specifications (expected)

According to the tipster, the Google Pixel Tablet will have a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. This display comes from China Star Optoelectronics (CSOT) and is also supported by a Richtek RT4539 six-channel LED driver. Based on this, we can assume that the Google Pixel Tablet will not have an AMOLED screen. The screen is also believed to be an 11-inch one.

Finally, it is also believed that there will be two types of docks for this tablet. The Yuzu / Y4 dock will support charging while the Korlan / K6 dock will have a speaker.

Google will be making serious changes to the way Android operates

Google has announced that it will let device makers in India license their own apps for pre-installation and will also let users pick their own default search engines. This comes after the Supreme Court announced antitrust directives last week. The court also rejected Google’s challenge against Competition Commission of India ruling stating that the tech giant abused its market position. Google is now changing the way the Android system operates.

"Implementation of these changes across the ecosystem will be a complex process and will require significant work at our end and, in many cases, significant efforts from partners, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and developers," Google announced in a blog post.

Google antitrust

What is the Competition Commission of India ruling?

Counterpoint Research states that 97% of 600 million smartphones in India run on Android. The same research states that 75% of the 550 million smartphones in Europe run on Android. The CCI ruling states that Google exploits its dominant position in the market. It also asked the company to remove restrictions placed on device makers related to the pre-installation of apps.

It also fined Google $161 million (which is around Rs. 1,300 crores).

Google tried to block these directions by warning the Supreme Court that its Android ecosystem would be hampered due to this. The company explained that it would have to change its arrangements with over 1,100 device manufacturers and app developers.

Android

What’s happening now?

The Supreme Court dismissed Google’s plea and asked the company to pay the fine by March 31st.

"We continue to respectfully appeal certain aspects of the CCI's decisions," Google said. The tech giant is working on changing its Android system operations.

Android 14 could offer better protection against malware

Google is addressing the problem of malware on Android smartphones by implementing stricter app development and distribution guidelines. They have ensured apps on the Google Play Store are free of malware, but the ability to sideload apps can create a loophole for malware to spread. To address this, Google plans to block the installation of outdated apps on Android 14 as seen in recent code changes. The goal of this move is to eliminate the potential for malware to spread through sideloading and older apps.

 Android 14

Update your applications to prevent malware

Google is encouraging Android users to regularly update their applications. As the latest version of Android, Android 13, is only on 5.2% of devices, Google may raise the minimum API limit to Android 6.0 to better protect users from malware spread. This is because malware attacks often target older versions of Android with outdated security patches and vulnerabilities.

Once Google begins blocking sideloading, the number of malware attacks will decrease significantly. It's worth noting that this will not impact newer smartphones with newer versions of the OS, as they receive timely updates for their apps.

Android OS Google will let brands block outdated apps on Android 14

Google is contemplating giving brands the option to enable or disable the feature that blocks the installation of outdated apps on Android 14. The company acknowledges the problem of malware on Android smartphones and is taking steps to address it.

To give users full control of their devices, Google may also provide a way for users to bypass the feature through the command shell by introducing a specific flag. It's worth noting that this process would be more complex than just installing an APK on an Android smartphone.

The aim is to make it difficult for most users to bypass the feature, while still providing a way for those who need it. We may see this feature in Android 14, which will be launched in March.

The development of the Reality Pro, which is the result of a seven-year project and the efforts of over 1,000 members of Apple's Technology Development Group, represents Apple's first new product category since the launch of the Apple Watch in 2015. The company is taking a significant financial risk on the device's success.

Here are the top 5 features of this device, as detailed by Mark Gurman!

Top 5 features of the Apple Reality Pro

Build:

The Apple Reality Pro will reportedly be constructed of aluminium, glass, and cushions and have a design similar to the AirPods Max, according to Mark Gurman's report. It will feature a curved front screen that displays content to the wearer's eyes, speakers on the sides, and a headband for a secure fit on the head. The device is said to utilize a modified version of Apple's M2 processor and has a battery pack that connects to the headset via cable, which the user will carry in their pocket. The battery is reportedly the size of two iPhone 14 Pro Max batteries stacked together and will provide up to 2 hours of battery life.

Multiple VR/AR sensors:

The Apple Reality Pro will be equipped with external cameras to track the user's hands and sensors inside to monitor their eyes. This capability will allow the headset to detect where the user is looking and enable them to interact with the 3D interface, similar to an iPhone, by using gestures such as pinching with the thumb and index finger. This feature eliminates the need for physical hand controllers commonly used in other VR/AR headsets.

The Apple Reality Pro will feature a Digital Crown, similar to the one found on the Apple Watch, that allows the user to switch between VR and AR modes. According to Mark Gurman, when transitioning from VR to AR, the fully-immersive environment will gradually fade, revealing the user's actual surroundings. Gurman reports that Apple views this feature as a major selling point of the Reality Pro.

FaceTime Capabilities:

The Apple Reality Pro will have the ability to create a realistic rendering of a person's face and entire body in a virtual environment, allowing for a more natural and lifelike conversation experience compared to other VR platforms, such as Meta's cartoon-like rendering. However, due to the high processing power requirements, when conducting a FaceTime call with more than two people, the Reality Pro will display all users as Memoji.

Monitor capabilities for Mac:

The Apple Reality Pro can be used as an external monitor for a Mac, allowing users to view the display in VR while still utilizing the computer's touchpad, mouse, or physical keyboard for input.

Giant screen for movies:

The Apple Reality Pro will enable users to experience watching a movie on a large theatre screen in a fully simulated environment such as space or a desert. However, to fully enjoy the Spatial Audio feature, the user will need to wear AirPods while using the Reality Pro.
