Sony WF-C700N Review: Delivering on the promises made

The Sony WF C700N is a well-rounded pair of earbuds with a sound signature that would appeal to the masses in India and ANC that draws from its pricier cousins and makes them hold their ground well. There are a few kinks, like the button-based control interface, which I would like Sony to work on. One last thing before I wrap up this review. Like it is with all audio products, please try these earbuds once before you take the plunge, as the fit is something that would make or break the experience for you. And if these do not fit well, then I would say, explore options like the Nothing Ear (2) which features a stem-based design or the Jabra Elite 4 which have a similar approach to their design, but manage to work wonders with their fit and overall product quality.

The latest in Sony’s lineup of TWS earbuds are their WF-C700N TWS earbuds. These aim to fill the gap between the cheaper WF-C500 and the WF-LS900N (aka LinkBuds S). Sony has borrowed the design of these earbuds from the budget C500 and some of the hardware from the pricier products in its lineup. I was told that these earbuds are targeted to deliver quality ANC and be one of the lightest offerings in the budget. Sony has been quite keen on penetrating the Indian audio market, so when these earbuds showed at the Digit Test Centre, I was curious to see if they stand out to the Indian consumer in a market filled with options like the Nothing Ear (2) and the Jabra Elite 4, both of which have a cult-like following. So, here’s my review of the Sony WF-C700N –

Sony WF-C700N: Build and Design

When you look at the case of the Sony WF-C700N, you are instantly reminded of the WF-C500. The brand has made it to be the better specced and pricier cousin of their mid-tier TWS earbuds. The C700N carries over a LOT of the design from the C500 and leaves little to be desired when it comes to day-to-day use.

sony wf-c700n review

The buds, with their rounded design, fit well in the ears. I have an affinity for earbuds with short stems. However, when I was testing the WF-C700N, I was pleasantly surprised. They are lightweight, and you get three options of ear tips in the box to pair with them to ensure that you are getting a great fit when you are putting them on. It is especially important because the ANC performance of the earbuds is dependent on the fit that you are getting with the buds. While on the topic of ANC, its addition to the earbuds means that we get one of the most standout changes to the design of the buds. To accommodate the microphones for ANC, Sony has added its signature circular grills to the earbuds, which makes them differentiable from the C500, which would not have been the case if it wasn’t there.

The case of the earbuds comes with a solid textured top, with the rest of the body carrying a similar design from the C500. While at first, it looks solid and robust, as far as my experience with such materials and texture goes, the textured top is an open invitation for dust and gunk to accumulate over time. With that said, if you are regularly cleaning it with a damp cloth and taking care of the case, there shouldn’t be much to worry about.

sony wf-c700n review

The case is very pocketable, with the rounded edges ensuring that sliding it in and out of your pocket is easy and it does not get stuck in the lining of your pockets. The magnets used to hold the earbuds in place are strong. The same is the case with the ones holding the lid in place. However, in my day-to-day use, I found them to be a bit too strong, and I found opening the case with one hand a task.

With the C500, our lead audio reviewer, Dhriti, noted that the physical control buttons, in place of touch/capacitive controls, are something that should have been changed. She had very rightly noted that the very act of pressing the buttons to trigger basic actions repeatedly could lead to stress in the inner ear, as the earbuds are being pushed further into the ear canal with each push. With these earbuds, Sony seems to have addressed that, with the button press feeling much softer. However, that introduces the problem of accidental triggers, which were a common thing for me.

sony wf-c700n review

The buds have IPX4 water resistance. Now this is also something I would also want the brand to rework in the next release.

Now, let’s look at the features that the Sony WF-C700N comes packing with and how they fare against those of the competitors.

Sony WF-C700N: Features

The are two main areas where Sony has made changes to the C700N over the C500 TWS earbuds in terms of features – multi-point connection and Active Noise Cancellation. As I mentioned before, the C700N bring to the table Active Noise Cancellation to a pair that, despite the lack of it, was impressive and popular in the Indian market. The addition of ANC has not only made it better but also opened it up to a whole new consumer and competitor segment. And ANC also means a hike in price, which is justifiable, given the quality of ANC, is better than many other competing earbuds. More on that in the next section.

sony wf-c700n review

With the growing number of people getting into hybrid working/study environments, multi-point connectivity is in this transitionary phase, where it is going from being a novelty to now becoming a necessity. Sony has caught up to that trend and has added it to the C700N. Now, given that it is Sony, I expected the feature to work well, and it did!

The Headphones Connect app is not my favourite, mainly because of its interface, which in my opinion, is a bit overwhelming at times. However, it does provide almost everything that you would need from a TWS companion app. There are customizability options lathered throughout so that you can make the earbuds truly your own.

Sony Headphones Connect App

DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), Sony’s homegrown AI-based music upscaling technology, works like a charm on these earbuds. Having been someone who daily drives the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) paired with Apple Music, I was surprised to see how well the earbuds handled upscaling. When listening to some of the tracks which I jam to on a daily basis, there were one-off instances where the processing did not go as I had expected it to. However, I cannot complain much, given how well it worked the rest of the time. Sony has only added support for SBC and AAC codecs, which I believe could have been better if they included LDAC or aptX as well.

Sony WF-C700N: Performance

In terms of performance, Sony has made significant improvements to the sound signature of the earbuds. As you can see in the graph, the boost in the low frequencies, which drive the bass and the highs, balance each other out, and the mids, staying close to our baseline reading of Pink Noise, ensures that the sound signature is well-rounded, especially for the price.

sony wf-c700n sound signature

Sony has now started focussing on products that are tuned for Indian audiences. With these earbuds, the sound signature is well suited for the genres like Bollywood, Pop, and Hip Hop, which have been all the rage amongst Indian audiences. When comparing the sound of these earbuds to the likes of Nothing Ear (2) and the Jabra Elite 4, in my opinion, these earbuds are much better suited for an audience that enjoys that thump in the bass.

In case you do not like the bass or the boost in the highs is causing you discomfort over longer periods of listening, then you can always go to the Sony Headphones Connect app and tune the audio to your liking. The EQ baked into the app has a fair number of presets as well, which ensures that the earbuds can be tuned to your liking.

As for the microphone, the Sonys did not disappoint me. I tested them in a variety of scenarios, and these earbuds were up to the mark in all of them. In situations where there was a LOT of noise, like a railway platform, there was some level of noise that seeped through to the receiver. However, apart from that, there was not much to complain about here.

sony wf-c700n review

Staying on the topic of noisy environment, let’s talk about the noise cancellation of these earbuds. Given that these earbuds have a great fit in the ears, half the battle is won right there. At least in my case, where I got a snug fit with the small-sized ear tips. With ANC on, I could not hear the low-end rumbling sounds of the AC, which sits right above my head in the office. During my commutes to and fro from work on the train and in auto, the WF C700N earbuds did well to ensure that I could not hear most of the heavy sounds around me.

These earbuds pack the same hardware as Sony’s high-end TWS earbuds. The only place where they have been held back from running away with best-in-class ANC is the software-level processing. So, it wasn’t surprising to see that the earbuds did well in some of the most challenging situations as well. I would still say there is some room for improvement, especially with the handling of high-end sounds like shrill horns and the like. But, for the most part, these earbuds hold their ground well.

sony wf-c700n review

In terms of battery life, these earbuds lasted about four and a half hours in our Pink Noise loop test with ANC on and volume set to 50 per cent, which is pretty close to Sony’s claims of the 5-hour of battery life that these earbuds carry. And, when you are out of juice, you can harness the quick charge capability of the earbuds to ensure that you get a claimed 60-minute run time in just 10 minutes of charging!

sony wf-c700n review

Sony WF-C700N: Verdict

The Sony WF-C700N is a well-rounded pair of earbuds with a sound signature that would appeal to the masses in India and ANC that draws from its pricier cousins and makes them hold their ground well. There are a few kinks, like the button-based control interface, which I would like Sony to work on. One last thing before I wrap up this review. Like it is with all audio products, please try these earbuds once before you take the plunge, as the fit is something that would make or break the experience for you. Apple iPhone 15 new leaks: A 48-MP camera sensor and up to 200 price hike

This year’s most hyped smartphone series, Apple iPhone 15 is expected to launch next month. However, the tipsters can’t just hold it back. Another leak of iPhone 15 has surfaced on the internet. It is about the camera configuration of the upcoming smartphones. The launch of iPhone 15 was previously rumoured to be delayed this year. Amid that, we got to know about a new upgrade in iPhone 15 standard models; iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, has come up with a leak that suggests a 48-megapixel primary camera in the upcoming smartphones. Not that he only suggests that but also mentioned the new sensor in ‘Standard’ models which are iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This will make a good upgrade because last year, only the high-end models of iPhone 14 series had a 48-megapixel sensor.

iPhone 15

Another leak by PhoneArena in a collaboration with Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station suggests a smaller lens in iPhone 15 base models. It says the iPhone 15 and Plus will feature a 48-megapixel wide-angle 1/1.5 inch sensor. Comparatively, this size is smaller than the size of the lens of iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 featured a 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch sensor.

Interestingly, featuring a 48-megapixel primary lens in iPhone 15 standard models confirms another rumour which was leaked a few days ago. It has stated a 48-megapixel in all four models of Apple iPhone 15 series.

AMD pledges India with 3000 engineering jobs, with 400 million investment in Banglore Campus

Pop the popcorn and pull up a chair, folks. It's a full-on battle in the tech world as AMD and Intel, two American tech giants, go head-to-head in a new arena: India and Germany. Yes, you heard it right! These two chip wizards are duking it out by setting up ultra-cool, cutting-edge centers in these countries.

First up, we've got AMD flexing its muscles with a whopping $400 million investment to build a swanky new campus in Bengaluru, India. This investment will involve the construction of a new campus in Bengaluru, which will be the company's largest design center. This new facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2023 and will include big lab space and advanced tools.

The announcement was made by AMD's Executive Vice-President and CTO, Mark Papermaster, at the Semicon India 2023 event, inaugurated by India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The new campus, occupying an area of 500,000 square feet, will expand AMD's presence in India to a total of 10 locations, including New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

But hold up! Intel isn't sitting back and sipping a mocha latte. Intel India, not to be outdone, opened a sparkling new facility in Bengaluru last year, which can host up to 2,000 employees. That's a lot of coffee breaks and water cooler chats!

Then there's Germany. Intel decided to go big or go home and announced a colossal €30bn investment to build not one, but two new semiconductor factories. These factories aren't just fancy buildings, folks. They're going to use what's called Angstrom-era technology. That's techie talk for components less than one nanometer in size.

Both India and Germany provide a robust support structure for chip makers like AMD and Intel, offering tax breaks, grants, loans, and even R&D support. In Germany, companies can receive a reduced corporate tax rate of 9% down from 15%, potentially substantial grants based on investment size and location, and subsidised loans with interest rates below market rate.

India offers similar incentives with a slashed corporate tax rate from 30% to 15% for semiconductor firms, investment-dependent grants, subsidized loans, and an extra benefit in the form of R&D support. The R&D support, given through grants, loans, or tax breaks, aids in the development of new semiconductor technologies. These benefits underscore the strategic decisions of AMD and Intel to expand their operations in these regions, while also contributing to the advancement of global semiconductor technology.

Layoffs and new factories at the same time?

The layoffs and simultaneous factory openings by chip giants can be attributed to several factors. Both Intel and AMD are shifting their manufacturing strategies. Intel, for instance, is transitioning to a new business model where they will be manufacturing chips for other companies in addition to their own, a strategy known as IDM 2.0. This requires new facilities and potentially different skill sets, leading to both layoffs and new hires. source

The semiconductor industry is rapidly evolving, with new technologies and manufacturing processes being developed. This can lead to job losses in areas that become obsolete, while new jobs are created in areas that are expanding. For example, Intel is investing heavily in EUV (extreme ultraviolet) lithography, a new technology for manufacturing smaller, more efficient chips. This requires new factories and equipment, and workers with different skills.

There is a push to diversify the global chip supply chain, which is currently heavily concentrated in Asia. This has led companies like Intel and AMD to build new factories in different regions, including the United States and Europe. This geographical diversification can lead to job losses in some areas and job creation in others.

Some of the layoffs may be part of cost-saving measures. As companies strive to remain competitive, they often look for ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency. This can sometimes lead to job losses, even as the company is investing in new areas.

The ongoing global chip shortage has put pressure on semiconductor companies to increase production. This has led to significant investments in new factories. However, the increased demand for chips has also led to operational challenges and workforce adjustments. source

It's important to note that while layoffs are certainly impactful for those affected, they represent a small fraction of these companies' overall workforce. The new factories being built will create many new jobs and are part of these companies' strategies to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving semiconductor industry.

FAU-G Domination to deploy in the Indian gaming battlefield very soon

Last year, FAU-G was launched in India as a competition of battleground games like PUBG and Free-Fire. However, the game couldn’t grow on Indian gamers. Unrelenting, however, the makers of Fearless and United Guards aka FAU-G, nCORE and Dot9 have confirmed the combat game on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. On this day (July 26), India won the Kargil War in 1999 with Pakistan. Although, the launch date of FAU-G Domination was not announced by the makers. Let's see what the game brings for us this time.

India’s FAU-G which was based on the Galwan Valley tension between India and China, created quite the stir in India. And now, we have its sequel. Its sequel could also work around a patriotic theme. Just like FAU-G’s theme was around Galwan Valley, we are hoping to see something similar.

Also read: FAU-G Review: Promising Idea, Lacklustre Delivery

nCore Games announced FAU-G Domination with a ‘Coming Soon’ poster on Twitter. They further informed us that we can expect new characters, guns, and exciting game modes/tournaments. However, we’ll wait to see if the game incorporates a battle royale mode like PUBG.

One should keep in mind that FAU-G’s first stint didn’t see a lot of success in the Indian market as the Indian alternative didn’t live up to PUBG’s hype. With an overall review of 2.2 stars on Google Play Store, the game has a little over 50 lakh downloads on the platform.

The reviews mention issues such as lack of skills involved, controls being rigid, lots of glitches, and average graphics. The game also offers very limited features and you can only play using close combat skills and melee action.

Also read: BGMI Download Link Is Available But It's Not As Easy To Get As You Might Think

Keeping its patriotic theme in mind, FAU-G Domination is expected to release around August 15th, on Independence Day. However it will be interesting to see if the game developers have taken care of the previous complaints and improved the gaming experience.

OnePlus has not come up with specification of the Open yet. But thanks to leaks and rumours, we can get the idea from there.

The OnePlus Open is expected to be equipped with a 6.3-inch cover AMOLED display which is backed with the FHD+ resolution. The display will reportedly support up to 120Hz refresh rate. There might be a punch-hole cutout on the cover screen, which will house a 20-megapixel selfie shooter. The main display could be a 7.8-inch LTPO AMOLED display, backed with 1900 X 2100 pixels. This will also come with a 120Hz refresh rate, according to the leaks. The unfolded display is also rumoured to boast a selfie camera of 32-megapixel.

Talking about the performance, the OnePlus Open is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor which will be paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. A 4800mAh battery is expected in the OnePlus Open along with a 67-watt fast charging support.

OnePlus Open is also expected to follow the camera configuration of OnePlus 11 except the telephoto sensor. It might have a 50-megapixel primary camera along with a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

The OnePlus Open looks like a power-packed foldable smartphone. However, if compared to Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Open has powerful cameras. Although, we should note that these specs are totally based on rumours. Stay tuned for more information!

ChatGPT App for Android allows only 5 questions: You must give it a try

Artificial Intelligence is spreading all over the world like a wildfire. People are loving AI because it is making the most complicated work complete in seconds. OpenAI launched the ChatGPT earlier this year after that the company rolled out an app for iOS users. Interestingly, the ChatGPT app is now available for Android users as well. However, the application also comes with a drawback that is questions’ limitation.

The ChatGPT app for Android can be downloaded from Google Play Store now. OpenAI has launched the application in four countries for now. The countries are the US, India, Brazil and Bangladesh. OpenAI will most likely release the application in more countries in the coming days just as it rolls out the iOS app.

The application makes the process even quicker. However, in Android, you can only ask five questions from the chat-bot if you are a random user, unlike the website or the iOS app. When the limit of five questions has been crossed, it will ask you to either upgrade to Premium or send an invite to ChatGPT to 10 members. This will allow you 10 more questions to ask from chat-bot.

Bing Chat has been recently rolled out in Chrome and Safari. Unlike the ChatGPT app for Android, it allows its users five questions per session. When you are done with five questions, just start a new conversation and you are good to go. However, this renewal of conversation can’t be seen in the ChatGPT app for Android yet.

OpenAI

In addition to that, OpenAI has recently stopped the services of its AI Classifier, which helped in detecting the AI generated texts. The AI company has not even announced the news publicly. But when the users found out that it’s not working, the company blamed the low rate of accuracy of AI Classifier.

Google I/O is the company’s annual developer conference held in Mountain View, California. Musk clarifies the logic behind the X rebranding of Twitter

Elon Musk says the name Twitter doesn’t suit the platform anymore. It was fine when it was about posting text within 140 character limit. However, that’s not the case anymore. The platform is more than just text posts. Also, the X-rebranding has been a step in the direction of an everything app.

What is this everything app he is talking about?

Musk shares a fondness for the letter X which is evident from the fact that he named his second startup X which later became Paypal. His recent son was also nicknamed X. And the reference to X has popped up in different aspects of his life and business career throughout the years.

Before buying Twitter, he had tweeted his intentions about X.com and building a super-app like the WeChat app in China. So, this new move has been a long-time coming.

Also Read: Musk kills the bird: Twitter rebranding to X has been years in the making

So, when a user tweeted the list of companies that have gotten renamed, he clarified this isn’t just about renaming Twitter. Rather, the X app will be more than a communication platform. It will gain digital payment and wallet services to help you “conduct your entire financial world”.

So, like WeChat, X will also be a multi-purpose app including messaging, social media, and digital payment. Perhaps, it will also bring in features like location sharing, file sharing, games, booking taxis, paying for food, and buying movie tickets, etc.

It will be like a one-stop app for most user needs in everyday life.

WeChat is very much integrated with the daily life of Chinese people. For X to become so, it will have to have features to attract and engage people. It will also require access to an unfathomable amount of data. However, with such wide scope and proximity to our lives, the app could become a privacy nightmare too.

Let’s see how the future of X Corp unfolds. So far, Musk and the team have been swiftly changing almost everything about the Twitter brand including name, logo, and associated accounts. But even then some things can’t be changed like for example, rebranding the TwitterMovies account.

How to enable the Threads Following Feed: Its very simple

Meta has rolled out the update of Threads and it brings many features along. This is the first update since Threads’ launch. Interestingly, it offers many features like live translation option, tappable reposter labels, subscribe to unfollowed users and more. But the most attractive feature among them is that you can switch your feed to the ‘Following’ timeline. This allows you to scroll across the posts of users that you are following. However, this reverse-chronological timeline can be changed to the default one as well.

Meta rolls out this feature so that you can firstly read the posts of users you are following. This can be changed by enabling the ‘Following’ option. Let me tell you how to enable it:

Step 1: Open the Threads app

Step 2: Tap on the home button on bottom left or on Threads’ Logo at top.

Step 3: The ‘Following’ and ‘For You’ options will appear right below Threads’ logo.

Step 4: Select Following for the posts of your following users.

Also read: Threads isn’t threading enough and here is why we think it is so

Threads Update

That’s how you can read the threads of the users who are following. But you can always change it to the default ‘For You’ timeline, which reverts it back to the feed that is algorithmically developed.

Apart from that, Meta has introduced some more features like the update enables users to personalise their activity feed by applying filters such as follows, quotes, and reposts. Additionally, it introduces a follow button that allows users to instantly follow others directly from the activity feed.

Also read: How to deactivate your Threads account, just follow these simple steps

Threads Update

The ‘Following’ feature is pretty useful as the Threads has gained popularity among microbloggers, so it’s hard to find the posts of users that you are following. However, some users are facing a glitch. The glitch is when they reopen the application after switching to ‘Following’ timeline, the app brings them back to ‘For You’ timeline automatically.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Review: Overpriced optics

So that was the Oppo Reno 10 Pro. The smartphone is priced high, starting at ₹39,999 in India. In some cases, the smartphone does justify the value. We get a nice premium in-hand feel with a striking design and colour. The display is super accurate and responsive, offering an immersive experience every time users set their eyes on it, and the camera performance is also good, just the portraits and wide-angle lens can use a bit fine-tuning.

It is the performance where the Oppo Reno 10 Pro lags way behind competition. The smartphone runs on a more than two years-old mid-range chipset from Qualcomm and the performance numbers show how far behind the smartphone is. So the answer is clear, if you are a power user who wants the best performance and battery experience from your device, there are better options available at a lower price. But if you are someone who wants a premium look and feel with a very good camera and display, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro may justify the steep price-tag for you.

Oppo's Reno series of smartphones is usually the company's high-end offering for every year. Smartphones in the Oppo Reno series have, over the past couple of years, been centered towards the premium look and feel and the cameras. This year, with the Oppo Reno 10 series, the BBK Electronics-owned brand has continued the trend of offering a premium look and feel with a certain focus on the cameras.

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro being the middle child. The smartphone was lauched in India at a price of ₹39,999 onwards on July 10, and after using the smartphone for a good couple of weeks, I found this to be a bit overpriced in terms of what you get against what you pay. This, after using the smartphone for my daily average tasks, gaming, using the camera extensively, and doing other stuff over two weeks. In my review, I will talk about all aspects of the smartphone, which will answer the question as to why the Oppo Reno 10 Pro is overpriced in my opinion.

DESIGN

Starting with the design. This is where the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G justifies the steep price tag the most. The smartphone looks stunning. We get a nice curved AMOLED display up front with the hole-punch camera cutout. At the back, we get a nice curved glass back with an oval-shaped camera module. As usual, the speaker grille and USB type-C port are on the bottom of the frame, with the volume rockers and power button on the right side of the frame.

The in-hand feel of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro, with the glass back and the curved display is very premium, and you feel that from the moment you first hold the smartphone. Only the oval-shaped camera module is where we got mixed reactions, where some people liked it, and some didn't. I personally like it since it gives the Oppo Reno 10 devices their own distinct look. We got the Glossy Purple colour for our review, which also looks quite pretty.

DISPLAY

The display of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro is also very good. The smartphone comes with a nice 6.7-inch FHD+ curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display resolution is 2412 x 1080p, which comes around to a pixel density of 394ppi, meaning the display is sharp enough for all kinds of users and you won't feel any lack of detail or rough edges on this display.

Coming to colour accuracy, here also the Oppo Reno 10 Pro showed very good results, but wasn't the best we have seen in this segment. In the colour checker analysis using the Calman SpectraCal tool, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro showed an average DeltaE of 2.0 in the sRGB colour profile. This means that the colours you see on the smartphone are very close to the actual colours, and the margin of error is very low.

In the greyscale test, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro showed super impressive colours. The smartphone showed very consistent results across the board, with a very even RGB balance. There was no colour that was overflowing or overpowering any other, giving us one of the most impressive results in the sRGB colour profile.

Coming to brightness, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro has a claimed peak brightness of 800 nits under the sun and up to 950 nits for HDR photos and HDR10+ videos. We put this to test using a Lux Meter, and the smartphone showed a maximum brightness of 934 nits on a plain white screen, which is brilliant, since it is exactly around the numbers claimed by the company.

Furthermore, the 120Hz refresh rate makes the display very responsive and super smooth. Scrolling through menus and apps is butter, given the 120Hz refresh rate. We don't get LTPO technology with this display, but that is probably nitpicking at this point, since everything else on this display is very good.

PERFORMANCE

Now the performance is where I think the Oppo Rneo 10 Pro doesn't justify its value at all. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset, which is more than two years old at this point. Now, this wouldn't have been too bad since the Snapdragon 778G is a very nice and balanced chip, but there are devices in this range like the OnePlus 11R and the iQOO Neo 7 Pro that offer a proper flagship chip (Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1) from less than a year ago.

As expected, the performance numbers look miniscule as compared to some of the competing devices. On AnTuTu, for example, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro put out a score of 584215 points, which is almost half of what similarly-priced OnePlus 11R gave us and less than half of what the ₹5,000 cheaper iQOO Neo 7 Pro puts out. In fact, on AnTuTu, the smartphone's numbers were closer to the budget smartphones of today as compared to its competitors in the market. Disappointing.

In other CPU-based benchmarks like Geekbench and PCMark also, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro gives a rather disappointing result, making the smartphone's performance numbers appear miniscule as compared to competition.

In GPU-based tests also, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro didn't perform well. In 3DMark Wildlife Extreme, the smartphone scored lower than most devices, but came ahead of the Google Pixel 7a. In GFXBench, the device struggled to keep up with the competition across the tests we ran on the device.

BATTERY

The battery on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro is good. The smartphone uses many techniques to offer a good battery backup like Oppo's Battery Health Engine or the SuperVOOC S power management chip that facilitates an enhanced discharge efficiency, leading to better standby times and safer charging.

The battery backup, however, is just decent. We get a 4,600mAh battery with support for 80W SuperVOOC charging. The Oppo Reno 10 Pro doesn't drain battery as such. The smartphone, in fact, offered a very good battery consumption while playing games or watching content or even during GPS navigation. For example, playing Call of Duty: Mobile on the smartphone for 15 minutes drained only 3 percent of the battery. Watching HDR content on YouTube for 30 minutes, drained only 4 percent. Finally, GPS navigation for 1 hours straight drained only 8 percent of the smartphone's battery, which is great.

In our video loop test, however, due to the smaller battery unit, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro only lasted 742 minutes. Now, while this number sounds a bit less if we pit it against some other smartphones in this segment, but 742 minutes make for 12 hours and 22 minutes, which is pretty decent.

While the battery backup may not be the best, this is probably the fastest 80W charging I have experienced on any smartphone. The Oppo Reno 10 Pro charged from 0 percent to 100 percent in just 28 minutes! This is not only super fast for 80W fast charging, but even beats some 100W fast charging smartphones (mainly because of the smaller battery size)! Superb stuff.

CAMERA

Now this is where the Oppo Reno 10 Pro tries best to justify its price-tag. The smartphone has a very good triple rear camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel primary shooter, a 32-megapixel telephoto lens, and an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle shooter.

The camera performance out of the primary shooter is decent, just the images don't seem very sharp and detailed in the normal photo mode. The smartphone takes nice photos with a very good dynamic range, even in low light or in confusing lighting conditions. 90 percent of the time, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro's camera does a good job in getting things right. The shadows, the colours, and the detail is spot-on most of the times. However, at times, I found the photos to lack a certain level of sharpness and detail, but that was a problem I majorly faced in low light conditions.

The 32MP telephoto lens is my favourite. Photos from the telephoto lens also offer great quality. The telephoto lens facilitates up to 5X optical zoom and in proper light, the images in 5X are also sharp and don't lose any details. The colours are well represented in images taken from the telephoto lens. Here also, the 5X zoom doesn't seem as impressive in low light.

Given the presence of a telephoto camera, the portraits on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro weren't as good as I expected them to be. The edge detection isn't the best out there and at times, the focus on the subjects is a bit soft.

It is the ultra-wide angle shooter which is disappointing. The images from the ultra-wide aren't very good. They lack sharpness, the colours are all dull and washed out, and there is a weird blur on the extreme corners of all wide-angle images.

VERDICT
