WhatsApp will soon let you initiate group calls with up to 31 participants: Know more

Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly testing a feature to initiate group calls with up to 31 participants, along with minor improvements to the calls tab. It is currently being tested on Android, as per the report.

According to a report by a known WhatsApp tipster publication, WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is rolling out a 31-people group calling feature, along with a revised interface for the calls tab.

With the new changes to the calls tab, WhatsApp users will likely no longer see call links on this screen. Also, the floating action button is expected to be updated with a plus icon.

Meanwhile, the 31-person group calling feature is expected to help users easily connect with a larger group of participants.

While the messaging platform already allowed group calls of up to 32 participants in the past updates, users were only able to select 15 contacts while initiating a call.

The 31-person group calling feature, along with minor improvements to the calls tab, is currently available to a limited number of beta testers on Android, according to the report.

In our opinion, the ability to initiate group calls with up to 31 participants will allow for more extensive and inclusive group conversations. This can be especially useful for business meetings, virtual family gatherings, or connecting with a larger circle of friends.

Last week, it was reported that WhatsApp had started testing a new video avatar calling feature. This feature is expected to allow users to replace themselves with avatars during video calls. Given that WhatsApp is owned by Meta, it's worth noting that Meta introduced the real-time avatar calling feature for Instagram and Messenger in July. Hence, it was only a matter of time before WhatsApp would incorporate such a feature on the platform.

Metas Horizon Worlds not just for VR, expands as social platform for mobile and web

Meta has announced that it is expanding Horizon Worlds beyond virtual reality. The 3D social platform has previously been exclusive to Quest headsets, but now Meta has announced that it is rolling out Horizon Worlds on mobile and the web in an early access phase.

“We’ve started rolling out our first Meta Horizon world to mobile and web in early access, with more experiences to come. To start, a small number of people can now access Super Rumble through the Meta Quest app on Android, with iOS rolling out in the coming weeks. Early access is also available on any web browser at horizon.meta.com,” the company announced in a Quest blogpost on September 14, 2023.

The company further mentioned that as it rolls out more worlds over the next few months, users will be able to hang out with friends, laugh it up at comedy shows, and enjoy free concerts and events from any web-connected device.

“The metaverse should be available to everyone—no matter what device they’re on. And while Quest headsets are the most immersive way to access the metaverse, we believe there should be multiple entry points. Whether users want to know when their friends are online, invite a friend without a headset to meet up easily, or share the fun, this new flatscreen version of Worlds is a great way to stay connected and avoid missing out.

Moreover, Worlds on mobile and web offer the same safety features available today in Worlds on Quest, including the protections Meta has built for teens. 

The company has also optimised several controls, including mute and pause for a more seamless experience on mobile devices and computers. 

Similar to the VR version, Meta Horizon Worlds is free on mobile and web and available to people ages 13+ in supported regions.

“We’re testing things out for now, so you may not have access to Worlds on mobile and web just yet. Early access will roll out to more people gradually as we gather feedback and evolve the experience,” Meta noted.

Xbox now allows game streaming to Discord, VRR update and more cool features

Microsoft-owned gaming console brand Xbox has announced its “coming soon” September update which includes the ability to stream Xbox gameplay to Discord, a variable refresh rate (VRR) update for Xbox Series X|S consoles, and more.

“Starting this week, you can stream gameplay directly from your Xbox to your Discord friends,” the company said in a blogpost on Tuesday (September 5, 2023).

To get started, gamers have to first link their Discord account. Then they can join voice channels from their Discord servers directly from their Xbox console. To navigate there, they have to press the Xbox button on their controller to open the guide, scroll to Parties & chats, and select Discord. Then scroll through their available Discord servers, jump into a voice channel with friends, and share their gameplay.

Starting this week, gamers can also choose how they want VRR enabled on their Xbox Series X or Series S console. For those who are unaware, VRR allows a TV or monitor to dynamically adjust its refresh rate based on the frame rate of the content you’re viewing to give you a smooth, artefact-free experience while you play a game.

Xbox also introduced a new Rewards tab which will make it easier for users to find Rewards on their Xbox. Additionally, gamers can now find the Redeem Rewards catalogue directly from the Rewards tab in their profile, the company said.

Moreover, the company announced the ability to request a game invite from a friend with a new ‘Ask to join game’ option. Friends will be able to respond with a game invite, party invite, or message.

With the September update, the voice reporting feature, which Xbox announced in July this year, will be available to all players. With this feature, players can capture and report inappropriate in-game voice chats.

Another big addition that the company announced is that users can now easily pair new accessories to their Xbox console without having to move from their couch to push their Xbox console’s Pair button. To get started, open the Xbox Accessories app, and use the new “Connect a Device” option.

GTA 6 may be unplayable for millions of players, as it wont support older consoles

The hype for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI or GTA 6) has been at a boiling point. Fans have been eagerly waiting for any sort of news about the much-awaited new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, however, there has been almost nothing out of Rockstar Games. A new report has revealed that GTA VI will likely be unplayable for millions when it launches.

According to a report by GAMINGbible, many gamers won't be able to play GTA VI at launch as the game is expected to skip last-generation consoles and go right to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

While most gamers will likely be switched to the new-generation hardware by 2025, there will still be millions of players who won't be able to play GTA VI at launch, according to the report.

In February last year, Rockstar Games had announced that GTA VI was in active development. “Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” the company posted, “With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we've previously delivered. Earlier, it was rumoured that GTA VI's map will be bigger, and might also change and evolve over time, like in Fortnite. Famous Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson had also predicted the 2024, or 2025 release for GTA VI in a YouTube video, which was later backed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier. Moreover, Rockstar reportedly paused development on Red Dead Redemption and the GTA 4 remasters to dedicate more manpower to GTA 6.

The last GTA 5 game was released back in 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It made its way to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S early in March last year.

Apple iPhone 15 updates: New FineWoven cases to come in 10 colours, matching Apple Watch band

The countdown for the release of the Apple iPhone 15 series has commenced. Following Apple's typical timeline, the iPhone 15 lineup is expected to debut around September 15. However, reports and rumours regarding the iPhone 15 series continue to circulate rapidly. According to a new report, the tech giant’s new "FineWoven" cases for the iPhone 15 series, designed to replace the leather cases, would match a new magnetic Apple Watch band and is expected to be available in ten different colour options.

Leaker Kosutami revealed that the new line of cases will likely be available in Black, Mulberry, Taupe, Evergreen, Pacific Blue, Wisteria, Antique White, Butter Yellow, Orange, and Pink colour options, reports MacRumors.

As shown by many of the leaked pictures of the new cases that have recently circulated online, Kosutami noted that the cases are expected to come with rubber-wrapped edges that would be a little darker than the colour of the rear "woven" part of the case.

According to the leaker, the new "FineWoven" is expected to be the tech giant's officially selected name for the new material.

Earlier, Kosutami had mentioned the company will likely launch a new woven fabric band with a magnetic buckle alongside the Watch Series 9. However, now, the leaker has revealed that the band is expected to be made out of the same material as the new lineup of premium iPhone cases. 

The potential of a leather substitute with a woven fabric look was raised after earlier this month's speculations stated that Apple intended to discontinue leather cases for the iPhone 15 series. Some sources also proposed the term "FineWoven."

Last month, it was reported that the tech giant is expected to launch the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in two new colours. One might be the grey, which could be called Titan Grey and the other might be the Dark Blue colour. These colour options will replace the current Gold and Purple colours. Multiplayer mode will include new combat vest options, perk systems, innovative "tac-stance" movement mechanics, and after-market parts to use the Gunsmith customisation feature. Additionally, the Ricochet Anti-Cheat system is also promised an improvement.

Activision announced a new Zombie mode called ‘Zombie Galore’ and said that this will be the "largest Zombies offering to date.” Activision is taking steps to keep all Call of Duty content connected and easily accessible. YouTube is working on an experimental feature that lets you get AI-generated summaries of videos. While this may not be available for all users, there are third-party extensions that get the same thing done. We shall first learn about the official solution works and then take a look at some of the extensions available on the Google Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons store.

YouTube’s AI auto-generated summaries

YouTube’s new feature provides AI-based auto-generated summaries of videos on the watch page and the search page.

This won’t replace the user-created description section below a video.

It will thus be a quick way to know what the video is about.  So, you can decide whether to watch that video or not. So, you can better manage your time spent on YouTube.

How to get summaries of YouTube videos using AI

On Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge, you can download extensions like YouTube Summary with ChatGPT, Clipnote.ai, Skipit.ai, and Scrivvy. 

I have been using the former for some time now. It is quite a handy tool to have. It lets me easily jump to a portion in the video as now I can open the summary and search for the keyword, know the time stamp and click at that exact position in the video. 

Sometimes, if I am not in the mood to watch or not in a position to watch the video, then I can simply read the text transcript.

Here’s how it works:

1. Download YouTube Summary with ChatGPT on the Chrome Web Store where you usually download all the extensions from. 

2. Once it’s downloaded and installed, ensure you refresh the YouTube tab if it’s already open.

3. Click on the Transcript & Summary button on the right side of the video above the recommendations section.

The summary is presented in bullet points. This is very easy to comprehend.

So, you can copy this summarized version or the entire transcript. 

These new AI tools should prove really helpful for students of any age to quickly and easily gather the jist of any long-form video.

FAU-G Domination to deploy in the Indian gaming battlefield very soon

Last year, FAU-G was launched in India as a competition of battleground games like PUBG and Free-Fire. However, the game couldn’t grow on Indian gamers. Unrelenting, however, the makers of Fearless and United Guards aka FAU-G, nCORE and Dot9 have confirmed the combat game on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. On this day (July 26), India won the Kargil War in 1999 with Pakistan. Although, the launch date of FAU-G Domination was not announced by the makers. Let's see what the game brings for us this time.

India’s FAU-G which was based on the Galwan Valley tension between India and China, created quite the stir in India. And now, we have its sequel. Its sequel could also work around a patriotic theme. Just like FAU-G’s theme was around Galwan Valley, we are hoping to see something similar.

nCore Games announced FAU-G Domination with a ‘Coming Soon’ poster on Twitter. They further informed us that we can expect new characters, guns, and exciting game modes/tournaments. However, we’ll wait to see if the game incorporates a battle royale mode like PUBG.

One should keep in mind that FAU-G’s first stint didn’t see a lot of success in the Indian market as the Indian alternative didn’t live up to PUBG’s hype. With an overall review of 2.2 stars on Google Play Store, the game has a little over 50 lakh downloads on the platform.

The reviews mention issues such as lack of skills involved, controls being rigid, lots of glitches, and average graphics. The game also offers very limited features and you can only play using close combat skills and melee action.

Apples October Surprise: New M3 powered iMacs are coming

According to a newsletter by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is expected to launch a new product in October. The tech-giant is also expected to launch its most-hyped product, iPhone 15 in September, according to the usual cycle. But the reports are also suggesting more interesting products this year from Apple. The company might also launch the all new iMac powered by M3 chipset by the end of the year.

It’s not clear if there will be any significant changes in the all new iMac. However, Gurman wrote in his last newsletter that this year we’ll only be seeing the M3 chip upgrade in the current 24-inch model and the new 34-inch will not be available until late 2024. 

Although Gurman is not certain about his prediction, the last time Apple made changes in iMac was more than two years ago. So this time the company could really launch the M3 powered iMac.

It is also suggested by Gurman that Apple may update its 13-inch MacBooks i.e. the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, with the M3 chip. Talking about the iPad, he also suggests that a version of the iPad Pro could come next year with an OLED screen and the M3 chip. In the meantime, Apple is also working on a faster version of iPad air which aims to return the midrange iPad to a yearly update cycle.

Some time ago, Gurman suggested that the M3 powered iMacs and 13-inch Macbook air might arrive this year or next which will be the first to use the rumoured 3nm Apple Silicon chips. A supply chain analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, had also stated that new M3 Pro/Max chips were expected in the first half of 2024.

Instagram allows downloading Reels now but you may not be able to use it

Instagram Reels download option is finally available but the company is going for a phased release meaning not every market has access to it yet. However, you may still want to know how to use it. Here’s how it works.

Download Instagram Reels, the official way

Adam Mosseri announced the new Instagram feature via his broadcast channel. You will get a download button, clicking which the reel gets saved in your camera roll/gallery.

Now, there are two conditions:

1. Only Instagram users in the US get the option to download Reels now. However, we have solutions for you at the bottom.

2. Also, one gets to download only Reels from public Instagram accounts.

Another thing you need to know is that the Reels you download with this option could have an Instagram watermark along with the account name.

How to download Reels

1. Open Instagram.

4. Now, among other options like Add to story, Copy link, you will also have a Download button.

5 games that angered Indians 1. BGMI/PUBG

It’s fresh in our memory the many times BGMI and PUBG got banned in India. Although BGMI is back for a 3-month trial with some stipulations, the situation is still precarious. The NGO that wants the government to ban Undawn has said it will ask the authorities to reconsider the BGMI return.

Indian NGO Prahar has sought to ban the Chinese game Undawn: Heres why

An Indian NGO named Prahar has urged the Indian government to ban the Chinese giant Tencent’s open-world survival RPG called Undawn. If Indian authorities agree to Prahar’s allegations, then Undawn could be a new addition to the long list of banned Chinese apps in India. But, let’s not rush to any conclusion and see for ourselves why Prahar thinks Undawn must be banned.

Prahar’s reasons for urging Undawn’s ban

1. Undawn was launched on June 15, 2023, which happens to be the same day when the India-China border clash happened at the Galwan valley. About 20 Indian soldiers were reportedly killed in this skirmish. Prahar finds it very disturbing that Tencent chose June 15 as the date for the release of Undawn.

2. The issues don’t end there. Prahar is also concerned about the military uniforms and weapons (like AK47, G36, M416, and MPX. in the game that were apparently worn/used by Chinese soldiers at the time of the attack.

Abhay Mishra, Prahar National Convenor and President has said the game is trying to exert its “soft influence” on the young minds who play this game. 

Not only that he thinks this is an insult to the bravehearts who lost their lives and the sentiments of Indians.

BGMI parental control: Parents can now control their kids BGMI gameplay

PUBG Mobile came back to India as the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). It was banned earlier in 2022 because of different reasons. Majorly because parents were concerned that the children were hooked on the game for hours, which was impacting their studies and other outdoor activities. 

So, now Krafton has introduced a new feature for BGMI where parents have some control over what their children are playing, how long they are playing and different reasons. Basically parental control has been introduced.  Let's have a deeper look at what this Parental Control is all about.

Through this control, parents can keep the gaming hours of the kids under control.
