Xbox Series X Gets Support For Fidelity FX Super Resolution

AMD showed off it’s counter to Nvidia’s DLSS - Fidelity FX Super Resolution or FSR for short at Computex 2021 held on 1st June. Recently, Microsoft confirmed that Xbox Series X will get support for FSR and players will be able to get better framerates out of their consoles. Microsoft has incorporated the original tools for the FidelityFX in its developmental kits for Xbox Series X/S which will allow developers to utilise the tech efficiently.

A spokesperson from Microsoft said that - “At Xbox, we’re excited by the potential of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology as another great method for developers to increase frame rates and resolution.”.

AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution

“AMD FidelityFX is our open-source collection of optimized visual technologies that make it easier for developers to implement high-quality effects and optimizations that help make games look amazing while offering the best balance of visual fidelity and performance,” AMD said of its technology in a blog post.

Like it’s competition, FSR uses supersampling to achieve better frame rates at cost of relatively low resources. FSR will use four modes - Balanced, Performance, Quality and Ultra Quality depending on whether Image Quality is preferred or a higher frame rate. Either way, it will be interesting to see if AMD can live upto it’s claims of doubling the frame rate with FSR on. Although, nothing can be said about its performance on consoles as neither AMD nor Microsoft have released benchmarks of the performance improvements between FSR on and FSR off.

It is also interesting that unlike Nvidia which requires dedicated Tensor cores to run DLSS, AMD GPUs just do not have the required machine learning silicon to handle FSR. This means that it can be supported over a wide variety of GPUs and even Nvidia GPUs in some cases.

Knockout Citys Player Base Grows Over 5 Million

In about two weeks after it’s release, Knockout City has amassed a player base of over 5 million and a 9/10 rating on Steam. But what is so special about a dodgeball game, so much so that it was so well received by the community?

The short answer? It’s a multiplayer dodgeball game and it is F2P until you reach level 25.

“Since launch, we’ve seen 5 million new brawlers join us in matches, there’s been amazing – and unexpected – gameplay, hundreds of thousands of Crews were formed, over half a billion KOs landed, millions of hours of gameplay were watched, and – dare we say it? – thousands of friendships were made along the way,” says a post on the official EA website.

Knockout City

The very simple concept of the game and the fact that it is very easy to pick up and play will get you addicted to the game in no time and this trait reflects in the 5 million unique registrations for the game. The game is playable on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This is also a reason to attract players due to the sheer availability of the game on almost all platforms.

The game is free to play till you reach level 25 and the full version can be played by either buying the standalone game or by purchasing EA Play and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate where it is included in the subscription.

It is important to note that the game supports cross play, meaning no matter which platform your friends are on, you can play with them. Either way, this opportunity to bond over a dodgeball game with your friends is a must grab and we assure you will have fun among the chaotic gameplay.

Nintendo to open its very own museum

Nintendo announced last week that it will be opening a museum dedicated to the famous characters who shot to fame over the past three decades. The project has been named ‘Nintendo Gallery’ and is expected to open by Spring of 2024.

The gallery is set to be made at an old factory site in Kyoto which will be repurposed.

The goal of the gallery is to showcase Nintendo’s history and gaming products to fans and newcomers alike! The company's statement said that the gallery would serve as "a way to share Nintendo's product development history and philosophy with the public".

The exact functionalities of the museum are yet to be revealed and what exactly should be expected from it is unclear at the time. However, what we do know for sure is that the museum will make all it’s visitors happy with exhibits of Mario, Donkey Kong, Pokemon and Zelda.

Nintendo Museum

The statement added that Nintendo’s “historical products will be showcased, and exhibits and experiences will be available” by March 2024 when the gallery is finished. The museum will be built on the site of an old factory located in Uji City, Kyoto. It was built in 1969 and originally produced Japanese style playing cards called ‘hanafuda’. The plant also manufactured Western-Style playing cards, according to AFP.

Nintendo has produced a huge array of products to reach the stage it is at today. The ‘hanafuda’ cards were first launched in 1889. In 1977, the company launched video game consoles known as “TV game 15” and “TV game 6”. The company became famous when they launched the Super Mario Bros games in 1985, two years after the company began selling its Nintendo Entertainment System(NES).

The plant also served as a video game console repair centre before operations were transferred in 2016. Since then, Nintendo had been left wondering what to do with the plant. Until Now!

It is also notable that Nintendo has been attempting to expand its reach by exploring new fields. In March 2021, the company opened its first ever theme park, which offers a “Mario Kart” themed ride.

Activision teases new Docks map in Call of Duty: Mobile Season 5 update

While we might still be in the middle of the Season 4 - Spurned and Burned update, Activision has already started teasing its next update. The developer has teased a new map on social media and as always, online sleuths have deduced it as the Docks map.

The views look the best this time of day. Looks like we're expecting new shipment to arrive soon to #CODMobile! pic.twitter.com/TcIPxtGnK9

— Call of Duty: Mobile (@PlayCODMobile) June 13, 2021 Call of Duty: Mobile - Docks map

The Docks map in Call of Duty was first introduced in the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot. This isn’t the first time that the developers have introduced a map from that particular title. Maps like Hackney Yard was also first seen in the game. Further, the current version of Shipment seen in Call of Duty: Mobile is also based on the one seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The new map should be a part of the Season 5 update for Call of Duty: Mobile. However, we do not know when that will be available for players. Judging by previous releases, it should be available in the first week or so of July.

As far as the current Season 4 - Spurned and Burned update is concerned, the Seasonal event is going on right now. This event tasks players with giving chase to a villain by progressing through nodes. Each node has to be unlocked by spending a set number of ‘Sheriff Stars’. These items can be earned by playing Multiplayer or BR matches. Playing 1v1 Duel or with specific weapon sets and offer a boost to the number of Sheriff Stars in each match. Using the Volution Set of the ASM10, Karambit and the Trip Mine can offer up to a 50% increase in the stars earned.

The High Noon Chase event will go on till June 24. To know more about the event, click here.

TCL Mini LED TV C825, QLED TV C725 launching in India on June 30, 2021

TCL has sent out media invites for the launch of its Mini LED TV. The invite highlights a “C” series launch and this means the company will launch the TCL C825 mini-LED TV in India. While the invite does contain any specifics, we can also expect to see the TCL C725 launch as well.

TCL C825 4K MINI LED TV features and specifications

The TCL C825 is the company’s second-generation mini-LED TV. At CES 2021, TCL said, “the C825 adopts straight down backlight mode reducing the grain size of traditional LED to 100 ~200 μm”. Put simply, this means that with more LEDs to power the backlight source and full-array local dimming, one can expect better brightness and contrast from the TV. The C825 also features Quantum Dot Technology which should help enhance the colours and overall picture quality of the TV. It will also be interesting to see the performance of the C825 against the recently launched Mi QLED TV 75 (review).

Coming back to the TCL C825, in addition to supporting HDR and Dolby Vision, the TCL C825 also supports Dolby Vision IQ. Dolby Vision IQ uses the metadata from the content being consumed along with the TVs light sensor to give viewers an optimal viewing experience. This means that the settings of the TV can be adjusted automatically to offer the best possible viewing experience based on the lighting of the room. The TCL C825 also supports HDMI 2.1 which should be great for gamers. You can also use the TV for video conferencing as it features “A magnetic split-type camera (4M Pixel)”.

TCL C725 QLED TV features and specifications

At CES 2021, TCL said, “With nearly 100% ultra-high colour gamut (DCI-P3), the Quantum Dot Display Technology in the C725 will deliver even more vibrant and diverse colours without the limitations of lower colour volume or shorter lifespans found in other colour technologies”. The TCL C725 supports HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos along with audio tuned by Onkyo. The TV also boasts of hands-free voice, a feature we first experienced on the TCL C715 (review). It also supports HDMI 2.1 along with offering content from all popular streaming services. The TV also supports Google Assistant.

We will know the price and launch date of the TV on June 30th only.

TCL recently launched the P725 in India in march 2021 running on Android 11. You can learn the details of the P725 here.

Airtel begins 5G trials in Cyber Hub in Gurgaon with over 1Gbps speeds

Airtel has started 5G trials in Gurgaon ahead of an expected rollout early next year. While commercial 5G network won’t roll out anytime soon, telecom companies including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea have received permission from the government to conduct trials in different regions of India. Airtel is trialling its 5G network in the Millennium city in Cyber Hub, Gurgaon where it has demonstrated its mettle by offering upto 1Gbps speeds.

According to a report by ET Telecom, Airtel is working with smartphone companies such as Apple, OnePlus, Realme, Oppo and more to test its 5G network in India. Apart from this network in Gurgaon, Airtel will also start testing its 5G network in Mumbai in the next few weeks. Airtel is using Ericsson 5G hardware for its trials which is in line with the DoT (Department of Telecom) guidelines. Airtel has been given 3500MHz, 28GHz and 700MHz bands in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru to conduct its 5G trials.

The report also states that the DoT has allotted 700MHz, 3.5GHz and 26GHz bands to Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio for testing 5G networks. Vodafone Idea will be using Nokia and Ericsson hardware while Jio is working with Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson apart from testing its indigenous 5G solution as well.

Airtel’s #5G trial network speeds in Gurgaon. Running on Ericsson gear. pic.twitter.com/nLctWjIHuX

— Danish (@DanishKh4n) June 14, 2021

ET Telecom’s Danish Khan uploaded a video on Twitter that showed Airtel 5G network running SpeedTest at over 1Gbps speeds. Danish said that the phone being used in the video is a OnePlus 8 series phone and that OnePlus issued a special patch to enable 5G on this particular phone. Going by the looks of it, the phone looks likely to be the OnePlus 8 Pro.

While Airtel is testing its 5G network, spectrum regulations do not allow the general public to have access to the next-generation network, and for good reasons. The telecom companies are starting to test out 5G networks to assess their performance and stability in the long run. These tests could go on for months as the DoT is yet to put 5G spectrum for auction and till that happens we are still at least a year away, if not more, from getting our hands on a commercial 5G network. Reliance Jio and Airtel, both have plans to launch their 5G services soon after the availability of the 5G spectrum in the country.

Battlegrounds Mobile India launch closer than you think

Looks like the launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India is getting quite close. The developers are going ‘guns a blazing’ when it comes to teasing the launch of the title. However, the exact launch date is still unknown. However, the latest teaser of the game literally suggests that the launch is closer than what we may think.

When is Battlegrounds Mobile India launching?

According to a post on its official Facebook page, the devs note that the launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India is “closer than you think.” Previously, professional players and streamers had hinted that the game may launch on June 18, which is this Friday. However, since nothing has been confirmed yet, we all have no other option other than waiting.

If you’ve somehow been living under a rock, Battlegrounds Mobile India is pretty much a re-branded version of PUBG Mobile India and will be exclusive to the country. This means that the game will feature exclusive Indian content. However, what that actually entails remains to be seen. What we do know is that those who pre-register for the game on the Google Play Store will receive a bunch of exclusive in-game items. This includes the Recon Mask, Recon outfit, Celebration Expert Title, and 300 AG. These can be claimed once the game goes live.

The developer, Krafton Inc., has announced that the game received 20 million pre-registrations in two weeks since being listed. In fact, it was noted that the game got 7.6 million pre-registrations on its opening day alone. By comparison, another highly anticipated mobile game, FAU-G (review) received just over a million votes within 24 hours of its pre-registration.

Unfortunately, there are still a bunch of imitator apps on the Google Play Store. As always, these apps are trying to cash in on the popularity of the game. These apps are usually poor imitators or low-quality games. As such, gamers are advised to be careful before pre-registering. A simple way to click here to go straight to the official listing of Battlegrounds India Mobile here.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G Review: A worthy successor to the mighty Nord

On paper, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G offers just about enough to impress as a mid-range smartphone. However, you're still better off steering clear of this device. For the price, this new affordable phone from OnePlus does not offer enough oomph to help establish it as the alpha offering in the segment.

Launched in 2020, the OnePlus Nord remains one of the best selling phones from the company to date. While its powerful spec sheet is definitely a major reason behind its success, what helped it become a fan favourite is the fact that it plies its trade in a price segment that OnePlus had vacated years ago.

Now, in 2021, OnePlus is looking to take its mid-range game up a notch with the launch of the Nord CE 5G -- a phone which according to the company is "built on the core aspects of the OnePlus Nord experience" but available at a price that's more accessible than before.

Much like the original Nord, the Nord CE is more than just another OnePlus phone. In fact, it's an attempt at reaching out to loyal OnePlus fans, ones that the company left behind when it first made the move to high-end and premium segments of the market. In terms of the approach, there are also similarities between the two phones. So, like the original Nord, this new OnePlus phone also follows a minimalistic, Scandanavian design language, and also appears to be a phone that's tailormade for the average OnePlus fan in India.

But the million-dollar question is: Will all the similarities help the OnePlus Nord CE replicate the successes of the original OnePlus Nord. Well, read our review to find out.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G review: Display and design

With the Nord CE 5G, OnePlus appears to be focussing on the design and display department. Despite being a mid-range device that's more affordable than the original OnePlus Nord, the company hasn't cut any corners here. As a result, what we have is a device that feels solid in the hands, does not compromise in terms of looks, and to top it off also has an above par display for a mid-range phone.

The phone shares many design elements with the original Nord and brings with itself a design language that focuses on keeping things clean and simple. As such, we have no curved displays or eye-catching camera bumps. Instead, we get a phone that just sits in your palm and looks elegant. From the moment you take the Nord CE 5G out of its retail packaging, the device starts to impress with its finely crafted exteriors. While it doesn't look like a 40-50k segment smartphone, the phone does definitely look like something more premium than what its price suggests.

At 7.9mm, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G is also the slimmest OnePlus smartphone since OnePlus launched the 6T. It's also quite lightweight at 170 grams, which makes it easy to carry around. However, despite its lightweight nature, the phone does not feel toy-like as it has a balanced heft to it. Another interesting thing to note here is that OnePlus has managed to add a 3.5mm jack to the device -- something that was missing from the original OnePlus Nord last year.

Moving to the back of the phone, we have a back panel that flaunts a soft matte finish. This not only makes it look premium but also nice to touch. Keeping with the clean, Scandanavian design language of the device, the back panel features only a small OnePlus logo and a vertically placed camera set-up at the back. As we explained earlier, all these elements come together to create a phone that's as easy on the eyes as it is on the pocket.

However, if you're comparing it to the OnePlus Nord from last year, there are some design differences. Sadly, these also make the Nord CE 5G the inferior offering of the two. So, for example, unlike the original Nord, this new phone from the Nord series misses out on the iconic alert slider, which has been a major differentiating factor for OnePlus phones. There is also no Gorilla Glass protection on the device.

Talking about the display, we have a 6.3-inch FluidAMOLED panel on the front of the phone. This panel is capable of running a maximum resolution of 2400x1800 pixels. It also offers a high pixel density of 401ppi. This screen is also capable of running at a fast refresh rate of 90Hz. However, this is not handled dynamically by the phone and is instead set by the user. Since it's an AMOLED panel, the display also brings with itself support for Always-On-Display(AOD).

As one would expect, the performance of the display is quite good. It feels premium and works as well as any other panel fitted on a OnePlus phone in the past. In our time with it, we found the display to match up to our expectations. It can get plenty bright -- even under direct sunlight -- and also outputs vibrant and punchy colours. OnePlus has included five display profiles, including VIvid, Natural and three more presets AMOLED Wide Gamut, sRGB and Display P3, with the phone. Of these, we found the Natural the most balanced for all basic use, however, if you're looking to watch movies on Netflix, or play games, we'd recommend switching to the Display P3 profile for access to a wider colour gamut.

Apart from this, the display also offers good viewing angles, text legibility is also up to the mark, and overall the display ends up looking like a good option if you're looking to buy a phone for playing games and watching videos and movies on it.

The display on the phone also houses a punch-hole. This feels blends in nicely like a design element. The display also hides an in-display fingerprint scanner. The latter is quite responsive and fast.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G review: Specifications and performance

Over the years, OnePlus has managed to make a name for itself by launching powerful devices with flagship-grade hardware inside them. However, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G attempts to do no such thing. The phone is a mid-range device, which offers truly mid-range specs -- albeit with a 5G twist.

Underneath the hood, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G brings with itself a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chipset which offers a decent punch in terms of performance. Manufactured using Samsung’s 8nm process, this chipset offers design similarities to the Snapdragon 765G -- the chipset that powered the OnePlus Nord -- and as a result almost similar levels of performance. This chipset uses a base configuration of two performance ARM Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2.2Ghz sat next to six efficiency A55 cores which run at 1.8Ghz. For graphics, we have the Adreno 619 GPU on the chipset, which again delivers pretty much the same kind of performance as the GPU on the Snapdragon 765G. Most of the other features remain the same as both the chips offer support for 5G.

For smooth performance, OnePlus has paired the phone with 12GB RAM on the top-end variant of the device. As we found during our review, this core hardware comes together to ensure that the phone performs as advertised. While the chipset isn't the most powerful in the business, it still does offer enough power to handle graphically demanding games and heavy applications. The phone is equally adept at multitasking between light tasks such as social media apps.

Unsurprisingly, all interactions with the phone seemed breezy, especially when the display was set to refresh at 90Hz. As part of our gaming tests, we ran both Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt 9 Legends at maxed-out settings and did not notice any frame drops or stutters. The only issue we experienced with the device was slightly high load times for games, however, even that wasn't anything to really get too upset about.

This was something backed up by the results of the benchmarks we ran to test the device. For example, OnePlus Nord CE 5G scored a respectable 390044 points in the AnTuTu benchmark test. While in Geekbench 5, the phone managed a single-core score of 639 points and a multi-core score of 1878 points. GFXBench revealed a similar story about the graphics chops of the Nord CE 5G, with the phone clocking 723 frames in the Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High-Tier) test, and 975 frames in the Car Chase test sequence.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G review: Cameras

As is the case with most OnePlus devices, the camera department is one of the major areas of focus with the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. The device gets a triple-lens set-up, with a primary pixel binned 64-megapixel lens, with support for electronic image stabilisation (EIS). The lens flaunts an aperture size of f/1.79 for decent low light performance. But more on that later. For now, let's get through the specifications of the camera set-up of the phone.

Sat next to the primary lens is a secondary ultra-wide camera. This is an 8-megapixel lens with a 119-degree field of view and an aperture size of f/2.25. OnePlus has also backed this lens with EIS for stabilisation. To make up the numbers, we also have a 2-megapixel mono lens on the device. The set-up is backed by OnePlus' camera software that brings a number of features to the table. These include the ability to choose between different zoom levels, recording 4K videos at 30FPS, 1080P videos at up to 60FPS, Super Slow Motion videos -- 720P captures at 240FPS and 1080P ones at 120FPS -- and more.

As for performance, both these lenses are a bit of a mixed bag really. Talking about the primary lens, we get good daytime performance and decent low-light results -- although the latter can be significantly improved using the phone's Nightscape mode. In well-lit conditions, pictures come out looking vibrant but accurate colours. These shots also offer a good dynamic range. The lens also captures a good amount of detail to ensure there is little loss even if you zoom or crop an image. The images we captured came out with crisp detail and offer a good amount of sharpness, including at the edges.

The same is mostly true for the ultra-wide lens as pictures clicked using this lens in the daytime generally came out fine. However, we did notice a slightly lower amount of detail retention and some amount of fish-eye effect in the images clicked using this lens. But despite its shortcomings, the ultra-wide lens manages to do what it promises as it increases the scope of the frame at the press of a button and enables users to click sweeping views and scenic vistas thanks to its 119-degree field of view.

There's no macro lens on the device and that's something we definitely think should have been included on the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. Without the presence of a dedicated lens, the phone's primary camera fails to capture usable macro shots, which depending on how you use your phone's cameras could be a deal-breaker for some. But even as the Nord CE 5G falters in the macro performance, it recovers some lost ground with computational photography modes such as Portrait and Nightscape. Both these modes significantly improve the usability of the phone's cameras, with the former clicking nice bokeh shots with creamy blur effect, while the latter enhances the quality of images in low light conditions.

During our time with the OnePlus Nord, we clicked a number of low-light shots with the Nightscape mode enabled. The resultant images showed improvement in detail, proving that OnePlus' camera software was not just artificially brightening up images by increasing exposure time, but was actually stitching together multiple images to create a master image with improved details, highlights and shadows. While we're not saying the results achieved were on the same level as those from higher-end phones, but they were definitely better than a lot of mid-range offerings which fail to implement night mode well.

We also a 16-megapixel front camera on the device. This lens captures accurate skin tones and facial details and if you're looking for something to click selfies and make video calls from, then this one should definitely be good enough.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G review: Battery performance

Moving on to the battery department, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G provided expected results. The phone does just about enough here to hold its own, even if it doesn't go the extra mile to help itself stand out from the crowd.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G comes with a 4,500mAh battery pack that also comes with the promise of fast charging. However, before you can actually get to charging the device, the phone's energy-efficient chipset and its highly optimised UI ensure that there is little battery drain when you are doing simple tasks like texting, browsing the web, or even video calling. The Nord CE 5G's battery also handles videos well, with the phone returning over 15 hours of runtime during our videos loop test.

So overall, if you're a medium-heavy user, and your phone's average day includes streaming content from Netflix, clicking photos, and browsing the internet, the OnePLus Nord CE 5G should easily get you through a day's use and more. And after all of this, when you finally find your phone running out of charge, you can simply plug it in the provided Warp Charger 30T charging brick to take it from 0-70 in about 30 minutes.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G review: Should you buy it?

At first glance, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G will convince you that it has everything you need from your next mid-range smartphone. However, closer inspection will reveal that you're possibly better off steering clear of this device. And that's not because it's a bad smartphone. In fact, at Rs 22,999, the Nord CE 5G is a good option if you're looking for a new smartphone that sits right at the heart of the mid-range segment.

However, its biggest problem is the competition that exists in the segment, and its inability to effectively stand out from the crowd. From the missing alert slider to the macro lens, there are lost opportunities that effectively hamper the OnePlus Nord CE’s ability to compete not only against slightly better-specced devices such as the Poco X3 Pro - a phone that offers a faster display, bigger battery and more powerful processor -- but also makes it look weak against the original OnePlus Nord, which despite being slightly more expensive, and a year older, looks like the better of the two phones.

OnePlus TV U1S launched in India in 50, 55 and 65-inch screen sizes starting at Rs 39,999

One Plus has launched the OnePlus TV U1S in India. The TV is available in three screen sizes - 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch. Unlike its predecessor, the U1S does not support Dolby Vision, but it supports HDR 10+. It also comes with a slightly redesigned remote control.

OnePlus TV U1S features and specifications

The OnePlus TV U1S shares the same features and specifications across the three models with the only difference being the speaker setup. All three screen sizes sport 30W of sound output. The 65-inch variant has four drivers while the others have two drivers. Coming to the panel, the TV is 4K with support for HDR 10, HDR 10+ but does not support Dolby Vision. OnePlus has also partnered with Dyna Audio to master the speakers on the TV so it will be interesting to see how they sound.

Like we’ve seen on the Mi QLED TV 75 (review) and the Realme TV (review), the OnePlus U1S also comes with hands-free support. So, you can control the TV using your voice without resorting to the remote control.

The OnePlus U1S runs on Android TV 10 but does not bring the new Google TV UI. In addition to the traditional Android TV UI, the OnePlus U1S also brings OxygenPlay and OnePlus Connect 2.0. Running on Android TV you get access to the Google Play Store along with access to popular streaming services. You also get access to Chromecast and OnePlus has also implemented Miracast support in the TV. A unique feature of the TV is multicast - where 2 users can cast content from their smartphone to the TV. It will be interesting to see how this is implemented especially if two people are playing a multiplayer game on the TV.

OnePlus is also updating the features the OnePlus Connect app brought with the OnePlus TV. With the OnePlus connect app, users could use their smartphone as a trackpad, switch apps, control the volume and more. Now users will be able to set a timer for the TV to go off and remotely put the TV in kids' mode. The app now lets you transfer files smaller than 200MB to the TV. You can also control the TV using your Alexa enabled speaker.

An interesting addition is the ability to control the TV using the OnePlus Watch (review). Users can use the watch as a trackpad to navigate the TV, smart volume controls, and more. Once the watch detects a user has gone to sleep, it will automatically switch off the TV. Users can also seamlessly pair the OnePlus buds to the TV for a personalized listening experience without having to go through the hassles of pairing a headset via the Bluetooth settings. Needless to say, OnePlus wants to pack this TV with as many features as possible.

For connectivity, the TV has 3 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports. The TV also supports eARC to connect a home theatre or soundbar to the TV.

OnePlus TV Camera

The much-rumoured OnePlus TV camera has also made its debut. The device comes with a sliding cover to cover the lens when not in use. The camera has a 1080p resolution. It has a plug and play setup and comes with noise-reducing dual mics.

OnePlus TV U1S Price and Availability

The OnePlus U1S 50-inch is priced at Rs 39,999 while the 55-inch is priced at Rs 47,999 and the 65-inch is priced at Rs 62,999. The TV goes on sale, tonight 9 PM on Amazon, Flipkart and OnePlus' own website.

Canon EOS M50 MarkII Review: Tailor made for casual photographers

The Canon EOS M50 MarkII retails for Rs 58,995 with the aforementioned kit lens. The kit lens does more harm than good in this case, limiting the shooting styles, low light usage and even impacting AF performance. Overall, we would recommend the M50 MarkII if you can grab it at a discounted price during one of the deal seasons and use the extra money to get an actually usable lens instead of having to rely on the kit lens.

Canon’s mirrorless efforts may have been looked like they’re entirely dominated by the EOS R lineup, but much before that, Canon had its M-series, a product line built on the APS-C sensor format. Of the various cameras offered in the EOS M portfolio, the EOS M50 MarkII is tailor-made for the casual shooter who is looking for a higher quality output than a regular camera. Canon allowed us to test drive the camera for some time and here are our thoughts on it.

Canon EOS M50 MarkII Features

Canon understands that there’s strong competition from the smartphone market, especially the high-end ones. At the tap of a button, a smartphone can deliver great images that will wow any social media audience. With the M50 MarkII, Canon has tried to ensure they have a competitive edge with respect to features while keeping the camera incredibly easy to use. With the EOS M50 MarkII, you get a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, Canon’s industry-leading Dual-Pixel AF with support for Eye-AF, 4K video recording, a fully articulated screen that supports touch input. The new camera also adds a silent mode, so that you can take photos in places like museums or theatre performances without the sound of the shutter piercing the silence. Lastly, you also get a whole suite of connectivity options like NNFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to be able to transfer photos from the EOS M50 MarkII to your smartphone for instant editing and sharing.

Canon EOS M50 MarkII Ergonomics and Handling

The Canon EOS M50 MarkII isn’t a pocketable camera by any means, but it is still fairly compact and tips the scales at just 387 grams. That’s exceptionally light for a camera that’s packing so many features. Our review kit came with the standard EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS lens. This lens has a very compact design, with the lens collapsing on itself and locking in place for when the camera is being stored.

The boxy design of the camera means Canon was able to build a more contoured grip that makes holding the camera a lot easier, especially when you want to shoot one-handed. The button placement on the back and top is a little cramped for our liking, but that’s mostly due to the reviewer having thicker thumbs and fingers. The AF/AE Lock button along with the AF Area button is placed on the curvature of the right side which is definitely not easy to use or reach. There’s a very little place on the back, in fact, thanks to the massive 3-inch fully articulated display. This is a clear case of you win some, you lose some, but mostly on the winning side and here’s why.

Canon EOS M50 MarkII Image Performance

It needs to be said right at the very beginning that the kit lens that comes with the EOS M50 MarkII holds it back significantly. The small f/3.5 starting aperture very quickly hits the f/6.3 mark as you zoom in, majorly limiting the light hitting the sensor. This makes this combination less-than-ideal in low light situations, as you’re going to have to bump up your ISO, and the M50 MarkII’s sensor does not enjoy going over ISO 3200. There’s noticeable noise in the shadow areas of images shot at ISO 3200, while images captured at ISO 6400 have more noise, but they can still be cleaned up. ISO 12800 is something we would strongly recommend staying away from, as it not only yields a noisy image, but also one that is noticeably soft. We strongly feel that pairing the camera with a fast prime lens with an aperture of f/1.8 would yield significantly better results, but Canon did not accommodate our request for such a lens, limiting the scope of our testing.

When shooting in good light, you might find yourself once again limited by the poor aperture configuration, but thankfully, the images themselves are brilliant. You get the typical canon colours with nice, deep, rich blues and reds and slightly muted greens. If you shoot RAW, you will be able to have granular control over every technical aspect of the image, be it colour, contrast or dynamic range. The RAW files coming out of the EOS M50 MarkII allow for about 1.5 stops of recovery on both the highlights and shadow ends, which can be extended further slightly in any one direction depending on how you expose your shot. The dynamic range and colour-contrast characteristics of the 24-megapixel APS-C sensor are definitely well within the norm, but that's definitely a stand-out feature of this camera is its AF system.

Canon EOS M50 MarkII Autofocus Performance

The Canon EOS M50 MarkII offers 143 AF points courtesy of its contrast and phase-detect AF system. Canon rates this system for effectiveness between -4 to 4eV, which is a surprisingly good range. In good light or even tricky lighting, we had no problems getting the camera to focus on the subject, irrespective of whether the subject was stationary or moving. The AF tracking works surprisingly well in daylight, with an efficacy level that we’ve only come to expect from higher-end cameras. The presence of Eye-AF helps lock focus quickly if it’s a human you’re trying to shoot but does not work all that well with animals.

Where the AF system falters, is sadly due to a problem that’s not its own. The kit lens with its variable aperture causes AF issues once the aperture is stopped down to f/5.6. after this point, the AF system becomes a little slower. As the light starts to dip, the small aperture on the lens impacts performance even further, making low light focus without an assist light a chore. Again, with a prime lens, or a zoom lens with a steady f/2.8 aperture, the sensor would have received more light and the dual pixel AF system would have had far better AF performance than we saw with the kit lens.

Canon EOS M50 MarkII Verdict

The Canon EOS M50 MarkII retails for Rs 58995 with the aforementioned kit lens. Unfortunately, Canon India does not sell the camera in a “body-only” configuration, which would have been a far easier recommendation to make. The kit lens does more harm than good in this case, limiting the shooting styles, low light usage and even impacting AF performance.

Canon’s EF-M lens portfolio in India is currently sporting only a handful of lenses, only two of which provide a wide aperture. You can buy an EM-M adapter that will allow you to use Canon’s EF lenses with the M50 MarkII, but that’s just an additional cost and also adds to the weight and size of the shooting setup. Overall, we would recommend the M50 MarkII if you can grab it at a discounted price during one of the deal seasons and use the extra money to get an actually usable lens instead of having to rely on the kit lens.
