Would you buy a 42-inch LG OLED TV

Announced at CES 2021, those looking forward to a 42-inch OLED TV will have to wait for some more time. It looks like the LG 42-inch OLED TV has been delayed to 2022. As reported by the Korean Economic Daily, the South Korean home appliance giant will likely showcase the 42-inch model that is suitable for gaming during next year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. “Apparently, LG wants to add the model to next year’s TV lineup to maximize its marketing efforts rather than unveiling it later this year,” said an industry official.

The 42-inch LG OLED TV is expected to be optimized for gaming. Since the announcement of the 42-inch OLED TV was made by LG displays, it is possible that we will see other OLED TV makers offer a 42-inch variant as well.

Currently, the smallest OLED TV available in India is the LG 48-inch CX (review). The TV is ideal for those that don't have the space for a 55-inch TV and are looking to get on the OLED TV bandwagon. While Sony has a 48-inch OLED TV available internationally, the company isn’t selling it in India.

LG has launched its 2021 lineup of TVs in India ranging from budget 4K TVs, all the way up to an 83-inch OLED TV. You can learn about all the models launched here.

While the 48-inch LG OLED TV works well as a monitor, it may be too big for some. The 42-inch OLED TV could be the sweet spot for console gamers looking for the ideal experience for the PlayStation 5 (review) or Xbox Series X (review) console. With LG dominating gaming features on their TV such as 4K at 120Hz, VRR, ALLM, and more, it is a great option for those looking for the ideal gaming TV.

Apple Mac Mini M1X could debut in November with a powerful 32-Core GPU

A report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates that Apple Mac Mini M1X will most likely launch during the company’s November event this year. The upcoming Mac Mini will feature a new design and a powerful M1X chip, as per the report.

The next generation Macbook Pro rumoured to feature the M1X chip which has a 10 Core CPU (8 performance cores and 2 high-efficiency cores) and a 16 or 32 core GPU, will share the silicon with the new Apple Mac Mini as well.

Apple Mac Mini M1X launch price specs features

Apple Mac Mini M1X Specs, Launch Date

The new Apple Mac Mini M1X will feature a smaller footprint than the last generation. According to a leaked render the top of the Mac Mini M1X will have plexiglass and the overall thickness would be relatively less. Similar to the latest iMac, the Mac Mini M1X would also feature a magnetic power port. In terms of specs, the Mac Mini M1X could feature four new Thunderbolt 4 USB Type C ports, 2 USB Type-A ports, an Ethernet slot and much more.

The Mac Mini M1X specs will more than likely include multiple RAM and storage options starting from 8GB and 256GB, respectively. The Mac Mini M1 launched last year gave us a taste of how powerful and efficient Apple Silicon can be. The Apple Mac Mini M1X will raise the bar even higher by improving the already impressive processing power of M1 and enhancing its graphical capabilities as well.

Apple plans to launch a ton of new products this year including new iPads, the iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7, Generation 3 Airpods alongside the 14 and 16-inch Macbook Pro featuring the M1X chip. During last year’s November event Apple released a bunch of M1-focused products including the new Macbook Air M1, Macbook Pro M1 and the Mac Mini. So expect a flurry of new products from Apple around the same time.

LG launches more TVs in India than there are movies in the MCU

If you are looking to pick up an LG TV then we have some good news for you. The much-anticipated 2021 LG TVs have finally launched in India and you should be able to get your hands on one of these bad boys soon. LG hasn't launched one or two of its ranges, but it's entire 2021 portfolio.

Commenting on the occasion, Gireesan Gopi, Business Head, Home Entertainment, LG Electronics India, said, “The 2021 range of televisions by LG is loaded with powerful new features, making it the perfect choice for watching sports, playing video games, and binge-watching your favourite show or movie. This year, LG has brought about some remarkable innovations in the design of not just in our televisions but also in our user interface tools as new webOS 6.0. The lineup of this year features OLED Evo, which we at LG proudly describe as ‘our best OLED ever". The latest lineup expands on our already vast range of Smart TVs available for consumers across price points.” Let's dive in and check out the launched TVs in detail

LG Z1 88

Let’s start with the king of the hill, the 88-inch LG Z1. This 88-inch beast of a TV is an 8K OLED TV. Since it is an OLED TV, each pixel on the display is self-illuminating giving you deep black and an infinite contrast ratio. Under the hood, the TV is powered by LG’s alpha 9 Gen 4 AI Processor 8K with AI Picture & AI Sound. It also supports Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos and Filmmaker Mode to ensure you get the best experience based on the content you are consuming. Needless to say, the TV supports HDR 10 and HLG as well.

The TV runs on LG’s new WebOS platform and comes with the redesigned magic remote control. For gamers, this TV comes packed with all the bells and whistles including 4K at 120Hz, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode).

The LG Z1 88 price is not mentioned on the company’s website as of writing this story, nor is it in the press release shared with Digit.

LG G1

Next up we have LG’s gallery series or G1. This beauty will look like a piece of art on your wall. The G1 is expected to bring a brighter OLED panel when compared to the C1 and last year's GX (review) and we are really excited to check this one out. The TV will sit flush with the wall when wall mounted. The G1 has all the same internals as the Z1 and comes with all the same features such as support for Dolby Vision IQ, 4K at 120Hz, VRR and ALLM support.

LG G1 Evo OLED TV.

The LG G1 is available in three sizes - 77-inch, 65-inch and 55-inch priced at Rs 10,99,990, Rs 3,99,990 and Rs 2,03,990 respectively.

LG C1

Next in the OLED lineup, we have the C1 and we think this will be the most popular of LG’s new OLEDs if the performance of its predecessor is anything to go by. The C1 retains the design of the CX we reviewed in early 2021 and comes with all the bells and whistles found on the G1.

The C1 is available in 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83-inches priced at Rs 1,89,990 for the 48-inch variant, Rs 1,69,990 for the 55-inch variant, Rs 2,67,740 for the 65-inch variant and Rs 8,99,990 for the 77-inch variant. The price of the 83-inch variant is not known as of writing this article.

LG B1

The biggest difference between the LG B1 and the C1 is the processor powering the TV. While the C1 has LG Alpha 9 gen 4 processor, the B1 has an alpha 7 Gen 4 processor. The rest of the features such as all 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, Dolby Vision IQ and more are the same as the C1. The B1 also has a slightly smaller tabletop stand when compared to the C1. but when mounted on the wall, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the 2.

The LG B1 is available in two screen sizes - 55 and 65-inch priced at Rs 1,52,990 and Rs 2,42,240 respectively.

LG A1

If gaming features such as HDMI 2.1 are not important for you, then you can check out the LG A1 TV. Just like the B1, this one runs on the Alpha 7 Gen 4 processor. It comes with support for all HDR formats like HDR 10, Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos. But for gaming, it has only ALLM. Unlike the C1 and B1 that has a single tabletop stand, the A1 comes with two separate feet that hold the TV in place.

The LG A1 is available in 48, 55 and 65-inch screen sizes but as of writing this story, the price of the TVs is not yet known. The LG A1 is listed on the LG India website as coming soon.

LG QNED TV

LG has also announced its range of QNED Mini LEDs. The TVs will be available in 8K and 4K resolution under the series QNED99 and QNED91 respectively. Information about the QNED TVs is still to make its way on LG’s India website.

LG QNED TV has mini LED backlighting.

LG has also refreshed its range of UHD TVs under its UM and UP lineup ranging from 34 to 75 inches. The TVs run on the company’s WebOS platform and comes with a 4K resolution along with support for HDR.

Is Xbox Game Pass and xCloud coming soon to Android TV

Reddit user /el_gonz87 has discovered the Android TV version of the Game Pass banner in the Game Pass Android app. His Reddit post reads, “Just ripped the latest Game Pass APK updated via Google Play Store from my Android tablet and to my surprise it had an Android TV banner built into it... Seems we may get Game Pass officially on Android TV very soon!”

While Microsoft’s game streaming service, xCloud is the app that gives access to users to stream games on Android and iOS, users can play games available on the Game Pass subscription service on their mobile device using xCloud.

Playing Xbox games on your smart TV via Microsoft’s Cloud gaming service isn't new information. In an interview with The Verge back in 2020, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, was asked, “What’s stopping you from saying, okay, Xbox is an app, it has minimum hardware specs, and we’re just going to run it on a smart TV?” To which Phil Spencer responded, “I think you’re going to see that in the next 12 months. I don’t think anything is going to stop us from doing that. I thought what you said about the TV was spot on. What we used to call a TV was a CRT that’s just throwing an image on the back of a piece of glass that I’m looking at. Now, as you said, a TV is really more of a game console stuffed behind a screen that has an app platform and a Bluetooth stack and a streaming capability. Is it really a TV anymore or is it just the form and function of the devices that we used to have around our TV, consolidated into the one big screen that I’m looking at?”

While Microsoft has combined its xCloud streaming service with Game Pass Ultimate, the service isn't available everywhere. While there were reports of xCloud launching in India in 2020-2021, it looks like we will have to wait longer due to the ongoing pandemic.

Sony TVs will soon be made by robots to help reduce cost

According to the Financial Times (via flatpanelshd), Sony is looking at factory automation and robots to manufacture TVs. This is expected to reduce the cost of production of TVs by 70 percent and also help reduce the defects encountered during production. Due to the implementation of robotics at the main TV manufacturing facility in Malaysia, the cost of production is expected to reduce by 70% by the fiscal year 2023.

"I don’t think automation by itself using robots will bring enough benefits. The key is to use digitization to link sales and manufacturing," Kimio Maki told the Financial Times. So, it looks like in addition to automation of manufacturing along with online sales and digital services will help Sony reduce the cost of production of TVs.

According to flatpanelshd, “Sony's TV business ran at a loss for a decade but the company managed to turn it around by refocusing on premium TVs such as OLED. It is now turning its attention to production optimization”.

This isn’t the first time Sony will use robotics and automation to produce electronics. Sony's production facility located in Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, produces a PS4 console every 30 seconds. There are only 4 human workers and the rest of the work is carried out by machines.

Sony recently launched its 2021 lineup of TVs in India. We have seen the launch of the Sony A80J OLED TV and X90J full array LED TV. Both the TVs run on the new Google TV UI and also come with Sony’s new Bravia Cognitive XR processor. Sony also launched the X80J in India.

OnePlus Nord 2 screen specs revealed, to feature 640-inch Fluid AMOLED 90Hz display

OnePlus Nord 2 screen specifications have been revealed in an official post. The post reveals the refresh rate, screen size and type of the upcoming OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone. OnePlus followed the same market strategy prior to the launch of the OnePlus 9 series, wherein they teased the wireless warp charging and the Hasselblad partnership for its cameras.

OnePlus Nord 2 Screen Specification leak

OnePlus Nord 2 screen Specs

The upcoming OnePlus Nord 2 will come with a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display featuring a 90hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ certification. The Nord 2 will most likely be the first OnePlus smartphone to be powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 1200 chipset. This is expected to have a similar performance to the Snapdragon 865, a flagship SoC we saw launch in 2020.

OnePlus Nord 2 has almost the same AMOLED panel and 6.43-inch screen size compared to the first OnePlus Nord and the affordable Nord CE 5G launched recently. OnePlus will tease more information related to Nord 2 in the upcoming days until its official launch on 22 July 2021.

OnePlus Nord 2 Processor And Camera Specs

OnePlus Nord 2 processor is also a big highlight of its big highlight. The smartphone will feature a custom Mediatek SoC tailored to improve its gaming and photographic capabilities. The built-in will also have a feature called DOL-HDR, which captures several exposures simultaneously to minimise “ghosting.”

Another leak suggests that OnePlus Nord 2 will have a 50 MP and a Sony IMX 766 sensor. However, take it with a grain of salt because leaks have not proven to be reliable, at least in the case of the OnePlus Nord 2.

Every OnePlus smartphone prior to Nord 2 has made use of the Snapdragon processor. The shift to Dimensity processor will most likely redefine the way in which OnePlus smartphones target different markets. Rest assured, the fast and smooth gaming performance, for which we all know and love OnePlus, will always be its staple.
