Apples M2 Macbook will come with 96GB RAM and offer faster speeds

Earlier this week, LeaksApplePro revealed that the new Apple M2 Macbook will be “worth the wait”. Now, we’re seeing reports on the new laptop’s capabilities, and this may indicate that the laptop is close to launching. Apple has been testing its upcoming 16-inch and 14-inch Macbook Pros, and there are plenty of rumours regarding them using the new M2 Max processor.

Apple M2 Macbook specifications

Two Geekbench runs have recently confirmed that the upcoming laptops will have the M2 Pro processor along with 96GB RAM. The M2 Max processor is said to have 12 cores that can run at a maximum speed of 3.4 GHz. It will also have 2 more cores that are rumoured to be 320Mhz faster than the speeds offered by the current Macbook Pro laptops that feature the M1 Pro processor.

When will the Apple M2 Macbooks be released?

There were plenty of speculations this year about the release date of the Apple M2 Macbook, with people believing that it will release in the autumn of 2022. Now that we are close to the end of the year, it is fair to assume that we will see this laptop sometime in 2023. The brand has not currently confirmed anything about the launch date, but the increasing frequency of leaks is often seen as an indicator of a launch on the horizon by tech enthusiasts with their fingers on the pulse.

Apple’s Macbook Air was released earlier and it sported an all-new look. The brand also released the 13-inch Macbook Pro. Both these laptops are equipped with the M2 processor, with the M2 Max processor being the successor to the same.

To know if the older processor offered improvements in performance, have a look at our review of the 13-inch Macbook Pro and the new Apple Macbook Air.

Meta has been ordered to sell Giphy by UK competition watchdog: Heres Metas response

In a significant decision, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK on Tuesday ordered Meta (formerly Facebook) to sell off online database and search engine Giphy it acquired for $315 million.

The competition watchdog found that Meta's takeover of Giphy could allow it to limit other social media platforms' access to GIFs, making those sites less attractive to users and less competitive.

It also found the deal has removed Giphy as a potential challenger in the UK display advertising market, preventing businesses from benefiting from innovation in this market.

Meta, disappointed by the decision, said it will accept the ruling.

"We are disappointed by the CMA's decision but accept today's ruling as the final word on the matter. We will work closely with the CMA on divesting Giphy," a company spokesperson said in a statement.

"We are grateful to the Giphy team during this uncertain time for their business, and wish them every success. We will continue to evaluate opportunities -- including through acquisition -- to bring innovation and choice to more people in the UK and around the world," the pokesperson added.

The CMA said Meta would be able to increase its already significant market power by denying or limiting other social media platforms' access to Giphy GIFs, thereby pushing people to Meta-owned sites, which already make up 73 per cent of user time spent on social media in the UK.

"It could require Giphy customers, such as TikTok, Twitter and Snapchat, to provide more data from UK users in order to access Giphy GIFs," the watchdog said.

The CMA found that GIFs continue to be an important driver of user engagement on social media platforms, with people making billions of searches globally each month for Giphy GIFs.

"This deal would significantly reduce competition in 2 markets. It has already resulted in the removal of a potential challenger in the UK display ad market, while also giving Meta the ability to further increase its substantial market power in social media," said Stuart McIntosh, Chair of the independent inquiry group.

iPhone 14s Crash Detection feature fails the collision test: Heres Apples justification

The Crash Detection feature, which is present in iPhone 14 models and an Apple Watch, has undergone a new test that reveals when it correctly fires and when it does not.

In a video from the Wall Street Journal, a demolition derby driver repeatedly rammed two distinct cars. He had a Google Pixel in the vehicle, which can also detect crashes, and an Apple Watch Ultra with an iPhone 14 model, reports AppleInsider.

Next, an iPhone 14 and Google Pixel were also placed side-by-side in each vehicle.

Testing showed that the Apple Watch worn by the driver was successful at detecting crashes. However, the iPhone didn't detect any of the impacts inside the first car, the report said.

The Google Pixel did detect one crash inside the driver's vehicle, but neither phone went off inside the car that got crashed into.

With car number two, the testers drove it around before crashing to make the smartphones think it was legitimate. But again, the crash did not trigger the smartphones.

When WSJ contacted Apple and Google with the results, Apple said a lack of data could be why the iPhone 14 didn't detect the crashes. Perhaps it was because it wasn't connected to CarPlay, or the tester didn't drive around the vehicle long enough.

Fitbit will require its users to login using their Google account from next year: Here are its data sharing implications

Google-owned wearable brand Fitbit is planning to make Google Accounts mandatory on new Fitbit devices from next year.

According to Fitbit, Google will not use Fitbit health and wellness data for Google Ads.

"After we launch Google accounts on Fitbit in 2023, some uses of Fitbit will require a Google account, including to sign up for Fitbit or activate newly released Fitbit devices and features, "the wearable brand said on a support page.

"If you have a Fitbit account, after the launch of Google accounts on Fitbit, you'll have the option to move Fitbit to your Google account or to continue to use your existing Fitbit devices and services with your Fitbit account for as long as it's supported," it added.

The company said Google accounts on Fitbit will support several benefits for Fitbit users, including a single login for Fitbit and other Google services, account security, centralised privacy controls for Fitbit user data, and more features from Google on Fitbit.

After the launch of Google accounts on Fitbit, if you want to move from your Fitbit account to your Google account, you will need to consent to transfer your Fitbit user data from Fitbit to Google.

Once you complete the move, you will log into Fitbit with your Google account and no longer with your Fitbit account.

Google will then provide you with Fitbit under Google's Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and binding commitments for Fitbit.

As part of a UK's National Cyber Crime Unit investigation, a 17-year-old teenager was detained on suspicion of Rockstar Games hack that led to a major Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI leak.

According to the reports, the alleged hacker might have also been involved in an intrusion on ride-hailing service Uber.

Apple Watch saves UK man whose heart stopped 138 times in 48 hours

London, Sep 3 (IANS) Apple Watch's ECG heart sensor has once again saved a man's life by sending him alerts for a low resting heart rate on almost 3,000 occasions.

David Last, 54, from the UK credited Apple Watch for saving his life after his heart stopped an astonishing 138 times in a 48-hour testing period at the hospital, reports the Independent.

His heart resting rate was found to have dropped as low as 30 beats per minute (it is normally between 60-100bpm).

After tests like a 48-hour ECG and MRI, his cardiologist told him that he had a massive heart blockage.

His heart stopped 138 times in 10-second intervals over a 48-hour ECG period.

Last was operated this month, and a pacemaker was installed to detect abnormal heart rhythms.

His wife gave him Apple Watch as a gift on his birthday in April this year.

"If she hadn't bought me my Apple watch for my birthday, I wouldn't be here. I will always be eternally grateful to her for it. Apart from charging it, it's always staying on me now," he was quoted as saying.

The Apple Watch has saved several lives in the past across the world.

With iOS 16 and watchOS 9 this fall, Apple Watch and iPhone will offer features that focus on 17 areas of health and fitness, from heart health to sleep, women's health, mobility and more, according to the tech giant.

Apple recently collaborated with Stanford University in the US to build the Apple Heart Study, which was a first of its kind in the medical community and the largest virtual cardiac clinical study during its time.

New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) Google received a record 137,657 user complaints in July this year in compliance with the new India IT Rules, 2021.

Most of the content it removed was related to copyright violations (135,341), while other categories included trademark, court order, graphic sexual content, circumvention, and others.

The tech giant received 37,173 complaints from individual users via designated mechanisms in the country in the same period, related to third-party content that is believed to violate local laws or personal rights on various Google platforms.

In June, Google removed 1,11,493 pieces of bad content based on user complaints.

"The complaints consist of various categories. Some requests may allege infringement of intellectual property rights, while others claim violation of local laws prohibiting types of content on grounds such as defamation," Google said in a statement.

"In addition to reports from our users, we invest heavily in fighting harmful content online and use technology to detect and remove it from our platforms," it said in its monthly compliance report.

The company said that as part of its automated detection processes, it removed 551,800 accounts in the country.

"We invest heavily in fighting harmful content online and use technology to detect and remove it from our platforms. This includes using automated detection processes for some of our products to prevent the dissemination of harmful content such as child sexual abuse material and violent extremist content," said Google.

In accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules), Google, along with other social media platforms, is mandated to publish monthly transparency reports with details of complaints received from users in India and the actions taken, as well as removal actions taken as a result of automated detection.

Microsoft Office now accepts handwriting-to-text by Apple Pencil

Tech giant Microsoft has released a new beta version of its Office app for iPad with support for the Apple Pencil's handwriting-to-text feature Scribble.

The feature allows you to insert and edit the text in a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or Excel spreadsheet using the Apple Pencil, with handwriting automatically converted into typed text, reports AppleInsider. After enabling the Scribble feature in Settings and then Apple Pencil, the feature can be used by tapping the Scribble Pen button under the Draw tab in version 2.64 of the Office app.

The feature can be tested now by members of the Office Insider programme via TestFlight, and the update will likely be released on the App Store for all users in the coming weeks.

Scribble was added in iPadOS 14 for any iPad that supports the original or second-generation Apple Pencil, including any iPad Pro, the third-generation iPad Air and newer, the fifth-generation iPad mini and newer, and the sixth-generation iPad and newer.

Microsoft's unified Office app with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel gained iPad compatibility in February 2021 and is also available for the iPhone.
