Rumoured Motorola P40 with punch-hole display leaked

Highlights: Motorola P40 with punch-hole display leaked It is expected to have 6.2-inch display The phone may have dual-camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor When it comes to upcoming smartphone models, Motorola has been linked to the G-Series of devices. However, it seems that these are not the only products in the timeline because a report says that the Lenovo-owned brand is working on a P-Series smartphone which is expected to launch sometime next year. 91mobiles, which has partnered with @OnLeaks, says that this phone may be called the Motorola P40 and come with a punch-hole display. In August, Motorola launched the P30 in China but the phone never made to other international markets. It may be possible that the company will launch the Motorola P40, the likely successor to the Motorola P30, in more markets with Motorola One branding. As per the leaks, this phone will join a limited number of devices that have a display with a hole to house the selfie camera. The smartphone industry now seems to be quickly adopting this design. The design was first introduced by Samsung at its annual developers’ conference. Huawei followed the suit and has already announced phones. Samsung has launched the Galaxy A8s, Huawei has unveiled the Nova 4, and Honor has announced the V20. Motorola is expected to become the latest brand to sport such display design. The P40 is expected to have a 6.2-inch display with the punch-hole in the top left corner of the panel. According to the images leaked by 91mobiles, the smartphone in question is seen having thin bezels on the sides, a thick chin bearing the Motorola branding. On the left edge, there is a SIM tray and on the opposite flank are the volume and power buttons. At the bottom, the phone has a USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a hole for the mic, while on the top, there is a 3.5mm earphone jack. On the back, the smartphone is expected to have 3D curved edges and a glass back. There is a vertically-stacked dual-camera setup and the primary sensor is said to have a 48MP resolution. There are two LED flashes below the camera sensors. The fingerprint sensor is said to be embedded in the Motorola logo on the back. This means that the smartphone may not have an in-display fingerprint sensor.   Related Read: Motorola P30 launched Motorola G7 Series leaked

Top-end iPhone will soon be Made in India: Report

Highlights: Apple may start making its top-end iPhones in India from 2019 These will include phones belonging to the iPhone X family Foxconn is reported to invest Rs 2500 crores to expand its Sriperumbudur plant   Apple is said to begin assembling its top-end iPhones, like the ones which belong to the iPhone X family, in India through the locally established Foxconn unit from 2019, a media report has claimed. This is said to be the first time that the Taiwanese contract manufacturer will make the product in the country, Reuters cited a source familiar with the matter as saying. The source also added that this move could help the Cupertino-based tech company take its “business in India to a new level.” The manufacturing will take place at Foxconn’s plant in Sriperumbudur town in Tamil Nadu. Foxconn, which already manufactures Xiaomi devices in the country, will invest Rs 2500 crores (approx $356 million) to expand the plant, including investment in iPhone production, Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister M C Sampath was quoted as saying. The investment may create as many as 25,000 jobs, he added. Until now, Apple was only assembling the lower-cost iPhone SE and iPhone 6S models in India through Wistron Corp’s unit in the Bengaluru. As per Counterpoint, more than half of Apple's sales in India are driven by models older than the iPhone 8. Recently, a report said that Apple is seeing a higher demand in the older iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus models. “The utilization for the (iPhone) XR production is not reaching its maximum capacity now. Suppliers of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are getting a combined order of around 5 million more units,” a supply chain source was quoted as saying. Apple reportedly planned 20 million units for the older iPhone models this quarter, but raised the figure to 25 million units. Foxconn is the main supplier of the iPhone 8 Plus, while Pegatron is the key supplier for the smaller-screen model, the iPhone 8. When it comes to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone XS Max was outselling the iPhone XS by three to four times with the 256GB storage option of the 6.5-inch model, being the most popular of the lot. “We have determined that the demand for XS Max is better than expected (3–4 times that of XS). The Gold and Space-Grey colours are significantly more popular than the Silver. 256GB is the most popular, and 512GB is subject to a serious shortage because only Samsung can currently ship NAND Flash well. We are positive that Xs Max shipments will grow steadily in 4Q18 thanks to demand from Asia market and the gift season,” Kuo was quoted as saying.   Related Read: iPhone Xs Max demand is 3-4 times better than iPhone Xs: Ming-Chi Kuo Apple iPhone XR demand falls short of expectation

Samsung reportedly granted patent for a transforming drone

Key Highlights: Samsung has obtained a patent for a transforming drone The patent describes a drone that could come with foldable arms and a sliding mechanism The drone is said to feature a wide range of sensors, including a camera    While a layman might know Samsung for its smartphone manufacturing business, the company also makes many other devices and components. Samsung could also soon enter the drone market as GizmoChina reports that its new patent for a drone has been Published by the US Patents & Trademark Office. This is said to be Samsung’s fifth patent related to a drone this year and it has been applying and many drone-related patents since 2016. As per the report, the new patent describes a transforming drone, which is capable of folding its arms into its body and it could be an accessory for its next generation of Galaxy smartphones.  Alongside folding arms and a camera, Samsung could design a drone with many additional sensors like ultrasonic, temperature, light, gyros, barometer, compass, and ultraviolet sensors. “An aspect of the present disclosure provides a transformable drone in which an arm for fixing a propeller can be folded and unfolded against the main body (or an airframe) which may provide a transformable unmanned aerial vehicle which combines portability and flight performance through a transformable main body (or an airframe),” states the Samsung patent, via GizmoChina. Samsung may also add other functionalities to the drone like the ability to control it using other devices like a refrigerator or a washing machine. Samsung has its own range of smart devices and it won’t be that surprising if it launches a drone that can be controlled using its other products. However, we are a bit unsure as to who would fly a drone using their refrigerator or washing machine. The report further suggests that the drone could feature a sliding structure, which would enable it to change form and be more portable. Like most drones, the company might develop an app that would enable controlling it using a smartphone. While the reported patent does seem exciting, we suggest that you hold onto your horses since companies obtain patents all the time and may or may not actually use it.  Related Reads: Sony patent hints at a smartphone with a transparent display Samsung's latest patent hints at under-display fingerprint scanner covering the entire screen
