PUBG Lite beta for PC to go live in India on July 4

PUBG recently confirmed that it is bringing its PUBG Lite game to India and now, the game developers have revealed the exact date of when it will be available. As per an official post by the company on Facebook, the PUBG Lite game for PC will be made available on July 4. One can currently download the game and install it but won’t get to play it as the servers are not yet live here. This won’t happen from July 4 as the servers will be made live for Indian players. As the name suggests, PUBG Lite is a light-weight version of the full-fledged PUBG game that’s available for PC.

Alongside the announcement, the game developers also answered a couple of questions on their Facebook post. Those who are interested in playing the game will get to use their previously used accounts, if they have one. Players can avail in-game rewards like skins, trousers, scarfs, glasses, among other things by pre-registering for the title here. Simply tap on the “Participate Event” button and enter your credentials to log into your PUBG account in a pop-up window. One will get a code via email on July 11 when they pre-register for the game, which can be used to redeem items in-game.

As mentioned earlier, PUBG Lite is a lighter version of the original PC game. It can run on less powerful systems and/or in areas that have patchy internet connectivity. The title’s minimum requirements are 4GB RAM, 4GB storage, a Core i3 processor with a clock speed of 2.4GHz, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU. This means that the game can run on most laptops and budget computers.

In other PUBG news, PUBG Update 8 for PS4 and Xbox was recently rolled out. It adds a new Weapon Mastery feature, Controller Preset C, loot balancing, and more to the title. The Weapon Mastery system adds a new progression system, which enables players to upgrade weapon levels by playing and gaining experience with a particular weapon. The new progression system and its rewards, called charms and medals, won’t reset with a new season and 100 levels can be achieved per weapon. You can read more about it here.

Redmi 7A confirmed to be launched on July 4 in India, retail on Flipkart

Two days after teasing the Redmi 7A launch in India, Manu Kumar Jain, Global Vice President and India Director of Xiaomi, has confirmed that the company will unveil the phone on July 4 in the country. A dedicated microsite for Redmi 7A is live on Flipkart. Those who wish to get regular notifications about the development of the launch can click the “Notify Me” button on the microsite. The company is promoting the handset as “India ka smartphone”. It will join the company's Redmi 7 Series of phones.

Citing IDC India Monthly National Smartphone Tracker in his previous tweet, Jain noted that Xiaomi had sold a total of 23.6 million units of the Redmi 4A, 5A and 6A (combined) in India as of April, 2019. The Redmi smartphone features a 5.45-inch HD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 1440x720 pixel resolution. The handset runs on Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 on top and is backed by a 4000mAh battery that comes with 10W charging support. The handset features a P2i splash-resistant coating and comes equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack. It is powered by a Snapdragon 439 SoC and is available in 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB variants. The phone features a single 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front camera.

It was previously thought that the phone would launch alongside the Redmi K20 series of devices in July. The K20 Pro is the company’s flagship phon, which was launched in Chinese and European markets. It has already been confirmed that the phone will launch in India. However, there is no official announcement about the launch date. The Redmi K20 Pro sports a Snapdragon 855, and is available in China with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It packs a 6.39-inch HDR AMOLED display and a 48MP dual camera stack. The Redmi K20 is a watered-down version of the flagship, and it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 at the heart instead of the Snapdragon 855.

Mi fans, here’s something exciting . We are set to launch the #Redmi7A on 4th July.   Let’s welcome #SmartDeshKaSmartphone and get ready to see it conquer the world. Can’t wait! How long will it take for 7A to become #1? Any guesses? #Xiaomi #Redmi pic.twitter.com/NNg9lfppmS

Samsung confirms Galaxy Fold wont be manufactured in India

Samsung has denied a media report that claimed that the company had begun manufacturing its first foldable device, the Galaxy Fold, in India. Citing tipster Ishan Agarwal, mysmartprice claimed that “Samsung has started manufacturing the phone in India and is likely to formally launch it in the country very soon.” However, when Digit reached out to the South Korean tech giant for clarification, it outright rejected the development, calling it a hoax. This certainly means that the ill-fated phone will not be manufactured in the country.

Amid much fan-fare, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fold last year, and officially ‘unfolded’ it in February 2019. The Galaxy Fold was initially scheduled to hit the shelves in April in the US and in May in Korea. However, it didn't happen. The company had sent the devices to top reviewers in the US, but some of them reported that their unit had malfunctioned. At that time, Samsung issued a statement noting the possible causes of malfunctioning and retrieved the phones for further development.

Samsung claimed that this had happened because the reviewers removed the protective film from the screen. It was later revealed in an iFixit teardown that the phone also had small openings that let tiny particles enter the internals of the phone causing damage to the screen. In the meantime, the company indefinitely postponed the launch of the phone. It was rumored that the Galaxy Fold launch would take place in July. However, Samsung denied the rumours, saying, “If we are running such a media event this month, we should be doing something by now. Nothing has progressed since the April delay.”

Galaxy Fold At MWC

In the latest development, the Galaxy smartphone series-maker confirmed that it had resolved all the display-related issues and that the phone was ready to hit the market. The Samsung Galaxy Fold was launched earlier this year at a price of $1,980 (approx Rs 1.37 lakh). It sports an HD+ Super AMOLED panel. The display on the outside is 4.6 inches in size, and when unfolded, turns into a 7.3-inch tablet screen with a ‘Dynamic AMOLED display’. The handset runs on a “7nm processor,” which is most likely the Samsung Exynos 9820, and comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The handset houses a 4380mAh battery.

As far as manufacturing in India in concerned, last year Samsung invested Rs 4,915 crore in its mobile phone manufacturing facility, which is in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The new plant is said to double the company’s phone manufacturing to 120 million units a year, up from 68 million, in a phase-wise expansion that will be completed by 2020. In January, a report claimed that the company would reduce manufacturing smartphones in the country.

This is not the first time that a news has come out as a hoax. Tipsters usually get information from their industry sources and then release it in the public domain. While this is one of the primary sources of news for the media industry, some of the tipsters have started to ‘leak’ random information to gain traction. Digit advises its readers to be aware of fake news, and confirm the development before believing in them.

Apple TV+ will focus on creating quality content over quantity, says Eddy Cue

Apple will be adopting a quality-over-quantity model for AppleTV+, the company’s upcoming streaming service. Senior Vice President of services and programming, Eddy Cue said in an interview with The Sunday Times that Apple won’t be flooding people’s screens with too many choices like Netflix does. Instead, it will focus on ‘creating the best’. However, when asked what he thought of Netflix’s model, he said there’s nothing wrong their model, but it’s not something Apple will follow.

The response was a jab at Netflix’s streaming model. The US-based streaming giant releases as much original content as it can to attract viewers, which sometimes can be overwhelming for the subscribers. Apple will instead release one new show every month, starting with the new Workplace drama called The Morning Show starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

While Netflix, Hulu and Amazon have been present in the industry for much longer, Apple is very much a latecomer to the show. Add to that the upcoming services from Disney and Warner Bros, Apple will have to deal with a lot more incumbents than its major rivals, when they started off.

Cue was quick to remind that Apple has been the latecomer, when it comes to hardware. Cue pointed out that Apple wasn’t the first to make computers, tablets or smartphones. He explained that Apple “doesn’t know much about television other than we are big consumers of it”, but what it does know is to “find the best people for it”. In fact, Apple had on stage Hollywood stars like Steven Spielberg, J.J Abrams and more, when it announced the service.

Apple certainly has an impressive lineup of creators working on new shows. Here’s the list of shows that we know are coming to Apple TV+ —

1. The Morning Show, Drama.

Starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell.

2. See, Sci-Fi

Starring Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard

3. Little America, Drama

Starring Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon and Lee Eisenberg.

4. Helpsters

“Sesame Street” spinoff.

5. Little Voice, Comedy Drama

6. “For All Mankind”, Sci-Fi Drama

7. Truth Be Told, True Crime

Starring Octavia Spencer, Lizzy Caplan, and Aaron Paul

8. “Amazing Stories”, Anthology

9. “Servant”, Psychological Thriller
