OnePlus Nord CE 5G to launch during OnePlus Summer Launch Event on June 10

It is now confirmed. OnePlus Nord CE 5G is the name of the next phone in the popular OnePlus Nord series of devices. The new device is confirmed to launch on June 10 in India. OnePlus has revealed that it is hosting a Summer Launch Event where it was expected to unveil the successor to the OnePlus Nord. The company has also confirmed that it will be launching a second phone in the Nord range that is called the OnePlus Nord 200 5G. This will be released later this year. The announcement was made by OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau via a post on the OnePlus Forums. The ‘CE’ in the name stands for Core Edition, which suggests that the upcoming phone will be a refreshed version of the Nord.

"Like the name suggests, this is a product which really aims to deliver a fantastic essential experience. We distilled the original Nord down to its core elements, and added a couple of extra features to bring you a phone that's a little more than you’d expect, at an even more affordable price," Pete writes.

A lot of you have been asking about what's next for Nord devices. Well, here are some answers, and of course, there's a little something for everyone: https://t.co/KSFdzHIZJd pic.twitter.com/Sy0q1DehHv

A listing for the OnePlus Summer Launch Event has also gone live on Amazon India that teases the name OnePlus Nord CE 5G. Earlier this year, a report from Android Central suggested that the OnePlus Nord 2 is slated to be the first smartphone by the company to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor.

There is still much that we do not know about the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, but the company may share more details as we get close to the launch date. It remains unclear whether the Nord CE 5G will be a direct successor to the OnePlus Nord or whether the OnePlus Nord 2 is a separate smartphone that we may see later in the year.

However, we do know that the OnePlus Nord N200 5G is a successor to the OnePlus Nord N100 5G that launched in the US and Canada in the second half of 2020. More details will be revealed as we near the launch date of the new phones.

100W SuperCharge adaptor for Honor 50 Pro+ spotted online

Honor is expected to stage its grand global comeback with the Honor 50 series phones in the coming weeks. The series will reportedly include three phones, namely the Honor 50, Honor 50 Pro, and Honor 50 Pro+. Of the trio, the flagship Honor 50 Pro+ will reportedly support 100W fast charging. Now an image of its 100W charging adaptor has allegedly surfaced online.

The adaptor, as shown above, is not a USB-C to USB-C  Power Delivery charger. So it is possible that 'Honor SuperCharge' is likely a proprietary solution that splits the battery into two halves - just as many high wattage proprietary solutions do.

A reliable leakster from China claims that the 100W charger won’t have to be purchased separately, and will be bundled in the box. The other two lower models will instead get 66W fast charging.

100W chargers still aren’t as wide-spread in use, but they are slowly gaining ground. 120W charging has already debuted on phones like Mi 10 Ultra and iQOO 7 in China, but we are yet to see 100W+ charging phones in India.

The Honor 50 and Honor 50 Pro will be powered by the recently launched Snapdragon 778G octa-core chipset, while the Honor 50 Pro+ is likely to get the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888. The most interesting bit is that these will be the first set of Honor phones after US-imposed sanctions to debut with Google Apps pre-installed.

Huawei’s smartphone division took quite a hit after it was placed on Export Entity List by the U.S. government. To make up for the losses, the company sold its Honor sub-brand to a consortium of agents and deals. As an independent brand, Honor has managed to regain license for Google Mobile Services. It has also renewed its ties with other key U.S. companies like Qualcomm, Intel, Microsoft, and AMD.

Apples M1 and A14 Chips have an unfixable security flaw, but you need not worry too much about it

ARM-based M1 Chip, the first Apple-designed SoC developed for Macs and the iPad Pro, has a security vulnerability that allows two applications to covertly exchange data between them without going through proper channels. The vulnerability was accidentally spotted by a developer, Hector Martin, while he was working on porting Linux to the M1. He says that the flaw exists at the hardware level and can not be fixed by a software update. Apple was notified of the issue 90-days prior to the developer making the issue public and has already acknowledged it.

Hector, however, notes that this flaw isn’t something users need to worry about.

Here’s how the developer describes it:

“A flaw in the design of the Apple Silicon “M1” chip allows any two applications running under an OS to covertly exchange data between them, without using memory, sockets, files, or any other normal operating system features. This works between processes running as different users and under different privilege levels, creating a covert channel for surreptitious data exchange.

The vulnerability is baked into Apple Silicon chips, and cannot be fixed without a new silicon revision.”

Users need not worry

The cause appears to be Apple violating an AMR specification requirement. At worst the flaw can be exploited by advertising companies for cross-app tracking. Users don’t have to really worry about malware exploiting this to take over their devices or steal their data.

Martin also has a proof-of-concept video on his website that demonstrates that the covert channel can be used to transfer enough data to stream a video in real-time with few or no glitches.

The flaw also affects iPhone 12 series that’s powered by A14 Bionic, since both the A14 and M1 are based on the same micro-architecture. The flaw is also expected to affect the next generation M1X chip that will reportedly be used in the upcoming MacBook Pro. It’s likely to get fixed in the iteration following that.

OnePlus will reportedly launch U1S series 4K Smart LED TVs and an external 1080p camera in India soon. As per reports, the TVs will be available in 50-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch screen sizes and are likely to go official alongside the OnePlus Nord2 at the upcoming “Summer Launch Event”

The teaser page for the event is already live on Amazon India, where OnePlus already retails the 55-inch U1 TV (review) for Rs 52,999.

OnePlus U1S LED TV series: Specifications and Features

OnePlus is reportedly using  DLED (direct LED) panels that go up to 300 nits bright and cover 93% DCI-P3 colour gamut. Colour accuracy is allegedly quite high with a delta error of less than two.

These TVs will be driven by a MediaTek chipset paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The software is based on Android 10 with OxygenOS TV customizations on top. These include a Blue Light mode and a live TV section that was also present on the recently launched OnePlus TV 40 Y1. These TVs will reportedly have 30W speakers with Dolby Audio. The speakers will be co-tuned by Dynaudio, a renowned audiophile brand that was recently associated with Oppo for Enco X TWS (review) earphones.

The plug-and-play external webcam is said to be bundled with the 65-inch model. It will have a built-in microphone for Duo calls and shall connect to the TV via a USB-C port. Oneplus will also add a physical shutter for privacy-conscious consumers.

OnePlus U1S LED TV series: Expected India Price

With the U1S range, OnePlus will expectedly compete with Redmi Smart TVs in India. Nothing is official yet, but the TVs are expected to be priced between Rs 35,000 and Rs 60,000 depending on the model.
