Samsung, Realme, Motorola and more to roll out Android 10 update to their devices by the end of the year

Google introduced Project Treble to help manufacturers update devices to new versions of Android more quickly. Now, the company has shared Project Treble’s success and Android version distribution in a blog post. According to Google, there were two factors to consider in measuring the effectiveness of the program, complexity and time. The company increased the number of devices supporting Project Treble to 18 this year, representing 12 OEMs. This represents a significant increase over the previous year and shows that Project Treble is having an impact.

As far as distribution percentages go, according to Google, Oreo was on 8.9 percent of Android devices a year after its launch and Pie was on 22.6 percent devices after a year. The latter, 22 percent makes Pie the largest fraction of the entire Android ecosystem. We don’t know about the success of Treble with Android 10 distribution number until next year at the earliest. However, one can assume it to be more successful than Android Pie.

Meanwhile, Google has also confirmed a list of manufacturers who will have Android 10 on at least some of their devices by the end of 2019. The list includes Samsung, ASUS, LG, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, Sony, Sharp and Vivo. Samsung has already started pushing out Android 10 beta based on Android 10 to its flagship devices, while OnePlus and Xiaomi has released Android 10 to their flagships.

However, there is no mention of Nokia phones, which may be because Nokia 8.1 has already started receiving the Android 10 update. To recall, Nokia released an Android 10 update roadmap last month.

It’s worth noting that the listed manufacturers will have phones running Android 10 by the end of the year, that doesn't mean all their phones will have the update. Here are top ten features of Android 10 you may have missed and these ten low-key features make a big difference.

MG ZS EV confirmed to be unveiled in India in December

MG Motor appears to have got off to a strong start in the Indian car market with its Hector SUV. A recent report from India Today claims that the Hector has received a commendable 38,000 orders since its launch in June earlier this year. But MG Motor is not resting on the laurels of its initial market success. According to a report from Autocar India, the British auto marque plans to unveil the ZS EV in India in December this year. The MG ZS EV is an all-electric SUV that will potentially take on the recently launched Hyundai Kona.

According to Autocar India, which received an official statement from MG Motor, the ZS EV SUV will be unveiled in India in December and launched in early 2020. Trial production of the car is currently underway at MG's Halol plant in Gujarat. It will be brought to the country as a CKD (completely knocked down) kit to keep costs low. It will initially be sold only in five cities, including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad.

Currently on sale in the UK, Thailand, and China, the MG ZS EV is expected to be powered by a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery that's connected to a 150hp electric motor. With this setup, the SUV is expected to deliver a range of 262 kilometres on a single charge. The MG ZS EV should be fully charged in seven hours through a 7kW regular AC charger and forty minutes using a 50kW fast DC charger. MG Motor has tied up with New Delhi-based start-up eChargeBays to help set up EV charging infrastructure in customers' homes.

When launched, the MG ZS EV will go up against the Hyundai Kona in India. The Kona was launched in July this year at a starting price of Rs 25.30 lakh. The Kona, with its 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery, comes with an ARAI-certified range of 452 kilometres. The Hyundai Kona features a 7-inch touchscreen display on its dashboard with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, among other creature comforts. The MG ZS EV is expected to be launched at Rs 22 lakh.

Apple TV app now available on Amazon Fire TV

Apple’s foray into TV programming is the company’s big bet to maintain its position as one of the top tech companies of the world. The Apple TV app is where the subscription-based model called Apple TV+ is housed, and apart from being available for iOS and macOS devices, the app will now be available on Amazon FireTV stick as well.

In a press statement, Amazon said, “Fire TV users in over 60 countries can download and enjoy the Apple TV app. For the first time ever, users can watch movies, TV shows and channels they purchase from Apple on Fire TV.”

The app is already available on the platform, but Apple TV+ will premier its first leg of shows on November 1 — The Morning Show, Dickinson, See, For All Mankind and The Elephant Queen. Users in India will have to pay Rs 99 per month to enjoy the service.

The app can be controlled using the Alexa Voice Remote that’s bundled with every Fire TV sticks, or even through an Echo Device. Support for asking Alexa to play specific shows from the Apple TV app will start from November 1.

The Apple TV app will be available for the Fire TV Stick 2nd Gen and the Fire TV Stick 4K in India, US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. In other markets, the Fire TV Basic Edition will get the app.

Apple forays out of the walled garden

With iPhone sales slowing down globally, Apple is placing its chips on services, particularly in over-the-top streaming services. The company already has the second largest user base for music in Apple Music. Now with Apple TV+, Apple plans to take on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other players in the market. Most of the established players have had a long time to consolidate themselves. Platforms like Netflix and Prime Video are now coming out with a host of original programming every month, apart from licensing shows from TV channels. To counter that, Apple has also made the Apple TV app available on just about every platform. Outside of Apple devices, the Apple TV is available on Smart TVs from Samsung, streaming boxes like Roku and via AirPlay.

Early this year at CES 2019, Samsung, LG and Sony announced support for Apple AirPlay, a feature that allows iOS users to cast content on a big-screen. So far, this was only supported in other Apple devices, but in the build-up to the Cupertino giant’s announcement of its foray into television programming, the feature is now found in most high-end smart TVs. Having said that, Fire TV sticks will not get support for AirPlay as of now. You have to launch the app from the TV to enjoy Apple-made content.

Interestingly, Apple has not announced any plans for an app for Android and Windows devices. However, users can watch content on tv.apple.com on Google Chrome and Safari browsers, so Windows and Android users will still be able to tune in to Apple TV+.

ISRO publishes lunar surface images shot by Chandrayaan-2 orbiter

ISRO has recently published images of the lunar surface taken through the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter on its official Twitter account. The most recent image, posted on Twitter on October 22, shows the Moon's rocky face filled with craters. ISRO is currently studying the south polar region of the moon, where we find numerous permanently shadowed regions filled with water ice. To capture these images, ISRO has used the orbiter's dual-frequency synthetic aperture radar (DF-SAR).

In ISRO's most recent tweet, we see a polarised image of the lunar south pole region. In it we can see numerous craters in the region, both big and small, young and old. We can also see the highlighted rims around some craters along with the surrounding ejecta material in dim yellow. Ejecta, in planetary geology, refers to the debris ejected during the formation of impact craters. When observed as an asymmetrical spread around a crater on the moon, it's often called an ejecta blanket.

While some craters have been formed as the result of a vertical impact, others have been formed as the result of an oblique impact. ISRO has highlighted this difference in its image. In another image, ISRO has zoomed in on the inner wall of crater Pitiscus T, which is located in the mid-latitude of the lunar near-side (farther away from the south pole). To capture these images, ISRO has operated the DF-SAR unit aboard the orbiter in full-polarimetry mode, which, it claims, is the gold standard in SAR polarimetry.

ISRO launched Chandrayaan-2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 22. While the lunar orbiter separation happened successfully in early September, the lander unit (Vikram) encountered a communications error with Earth minutes before its touchdown on the lunar surface. Though there have been recent search attempts to locate the lander—with help from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) as well—all the evidence points to a hard landing or fatal crash. Vikram's remains are believed to be hidden in a shadowed part of the moon.

#ISRO#Chandrayaan2’s DF-SAR is designed to produce greater details about the morphology and ejecta materials of impact craters on the lunar surface. Have a look of initial images and observations made by DF-SAR For more details please visit: https://t.co/1j7SBcXIpl pic.twitter.com/SEHukoYJMV
