Ubisoft and Netflix join hands to deliver Assassins Creed live action adaptation

Video game fans have always had a hard go of it when it comes to movies and films based on games. Sure, we got Mortal Kombat but for every MK there’s a Prince of Persia. We’re not sure why video game movies have had a hard time being adapted to different mediums but it’s definitely not for a lack of trying, that’s for sure. We’ve got three Tomb Raider films, a Sonic the Hedgehog film, and even a Monster Hunter adaptation in the works but what we really need is an adaptation that takes it’s time to tell a story. Which is why we’re rather excited to see Ubisoft and Netflix team up to adapt the popular Assassin’s Creed games into live action, animated and even anime properties.

Netflix announced it has entered into an agreement with Ubisoft to develop content based on Assassin’s Creed. The first series in development is slated to be an epic, genre-bending live action adaptation. Ubisoft Film & Television’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik will serve as Executive Producers. Under the agreement, Netflix and Ubisoft will tap into the iconic video game’s trove of dynamic stories with global mass appeal for adaptations of live action, animated, and anime series.

In a statement to the press, Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television - Los Angeles said, “For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise. We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix, and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”

Assassin's Creed adaptation on Netflix

Peter Friedlander, Vice President, Original Series, Netflix also gave his thoughts on the partnership, saying, “We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for. From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”

Netflix is no stranger to video game adaptations as the company has given us the awesome Castlevania and a pretty good adaptation of The Witcher as well. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope that Netflix does justice to a game that was saddled with an absolutely horrendous film.

OnePlus Nord starts receiving OxygenOS 1059 update with October security patch and more fixes

OnePlus Nord is receiving OxygenOS 10.5.9 update in India that brings the October security patch with it along with some new features. OnePlus has announced that the new update is being rolled out to Indian and Global users of the OnePlus Nord while users in Europe will get it in the coming weeks.

According to a post on the OnePlus Forums, the OxygenOS 10.5.9 update is being pushed out in batches with more users receiving it in the next few days. The changelog reveals that the new update brings the October Android security patch along with changes to the Game Space app.

The new update adds a gaming tools box for Fnatic mode and allows users to choose the notification style when gaming. A quick reply feature has also been added for WhatsApp and INS that can be accessed by swiping down from either the left or right corners when the gaming mode is engaged. Additionally, the update adds the mis-touch prevention feature to the Game Space app.

OxygenOS 10.5.9 also improves Nord’s system stability, Bluetooth connection stability and network stability as well. In India, users are receiving the OxygenOS 10.5.9.AC01DA update while global users get AC01AA version update.

If you haven’t received the update, there is a way to manually check for the system update. For that, users need to go to the Settings menu and scroll down to the System option. Tap on System Updates and the phone will start checking for the latest available firmware. If you haven’t received the update yet, you will receive it in the coming days as it is an incremental update and is being seeded in batches.

Recently, many OnePlus Nord users raised complains about its erratic behaviour that led to factory reset and data loss. At the time, OnePlus had issued a notice stating that it was working on an update to fix this issue, however, it isn’t known if the OxygenOS 10.5.9 fixes that bug which caused the phones to go in the recovery mode.

OnePlus Nord was launched on July 21 in India and has been selling like hotcakes ever since. The company also announced the Nord N10 5G and Nord N100 earlier this week for the US and European regions, however, it seems like the two phones will be skipping other regions including India and China, at least for the time being.

Aarogya Setu developers evade RTI query about creation of the app who created the app and how

The Central Information Commission (CIC) issued a show-cause notice to concerned Chief Public Information Officers (CPIOs), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) on Tuesday. The notice sent is for "prima facie obstruction of information and providing an evasive reply" on an RTI application related to Aarogya Setu App.

The action has been taken in response to a complaint filed by activist Saurav Das against NIC.

CIC has asked why a penalty under Section 20 of RTI Act should not be imposed? It has also demanded an explanation from NIC on how there's no information about the creation of Arogya Setu app even when the official website states that the platform is designed, developed and hosted by it.

A report from LiveLaw.in, a legal case watcher, reports "the Commission directs the CPIO, NIC to explain this matter in writing as to how the website https://ift.tt/31MDNfK was created with the domain name gov.in, if they do not have any information about it," Information Commissioner Vanaja N. Sarna ordered.

"None of the CPIOs was able to explain anything regarding who created the App, where are the files, and the same is extremely preposterous", the CIC stated.

The departments concerned have been asked to appear before the commission on November 24.

Aarogya Setu developers evade RTI when asked about the creation of the app and it's concerning

Aarogya Setu was touted as the most important digital tool to fight the spread of Covid-19 in the early months. Millions of Indians installed the apps, some by choice and some because they were forced to do so in order to go about their business. Indian government ran a dedicated campaign where the contact tracing app was a compulsion for people in case they wish to step out of their homes.

Several questions concerning user privacy were raised in the past but this might be an even bigger blow to the usefulness of the app.

The creators of the app - National Informatics Centre and the Information Technology ministry have told they're not aware of who created the app in response to an RTI query.

It was found out that over a period of two months, Saurav's RTI query bounced off various departments. NIC reportedly said, "entire file related to the creation of the App is not with NIC". The IT ministry transferred the query to the National e-Governance Division, which said: "The information sought is not related to their division."

The matter came under the spotlight when activist Saurav Das has complained to the information commission that concerned ministries have failed to answer his queries regarding the origin of the proposal for the app, its approval details, companies involved, individuals and government departments included, and copies of communications between private people involved in developing the app.
