Nintendo destroys a hackers life, makes him pay 10 million over the course of his entire life

It’s clear that Nintendo ain’t playing around. The Japanese video game giant recently dropped the sledgehammer on a hacker named Gary Bowser. Yep, you read that right. The guy’s name is Bowser. Anyway, the company decided to make an example of the hacker by suing him for an insane amount of money and jail time.

Gary was then thrown in prison for three years. He was part of a team that would manufacture chips that allowed pirated games to be played on the 3DS and even the Switch. Nintendo is not about that life and decided to really make an example out of the guy. And as far as I am concerned, fair enough.

Nintendo sues hacker for $10 million

Gary was then released from prison earlier this year and has to now pay Nintendo $10 million in damages. A Canadian citizen, Bowser was incarcerated at the Northwest Detention Centre in Washington. After he is released, Gary Bowser will then be allowed to go back to his home in Canada. Again, this just means that he’ll have to pay Nintendo $10 million from up North.

Mario ain’t letting this one go so easily. He will have six months as a grace period, after which he will have to start paying Nintendo back. From what we've read, it seems that even if Gary finds a job, 25 to 30% of his salary will be deducted in order to pay off Nintendo.

In an interview with Nintendo Life, Bowser stated that Nintendo can take between 25% to 30% of his monthly gross income. As of right now, Gary has paid Nintendo about $175. He has a long, long way before even scratching the surface of the actual amount that has to be repaid.

As a part of Team Xecutor, Gary and his friends manufactures chips that could circumvent Nintendo’s firewalls and allow users to load pirated games. We can all see why Nintendo did this and while we’re all cheering for the little guy, this just feels right. You can’t steal and augment a company’s hardware.

Nintendo’s

Look, Nintendo is not messing about here so if you’re thinking of nudging them, be ready to face a Kamikaze bombing run by the Japanese.

Indian smartphone market sees historic dip, with 20 fewer shipments

The research firm Canalys has published a report that claims a decline in the Indian smartphone market for the first quarter of 2023. The 600 million users’ market had a historic dip in the first three months where the shipments in India dwindled by 20% year-on-year which is the first-ever Q1 decline. The decline is suggested to have been caused due to weak consumer demand, high inflation, inventory correction and component shortage.

Amongst the top five players in the Indian market, four have seen a dip. However, Oppo has seen a growth of 18% with 5.5 million shipments resulting in the company overtaking Xiaomi and Vivo.

Samsung, on the other hand, overtook Xiaomi in the Q4 2022, and regained its top spot in Q1 2023 with 6.3 million units in shipments and a whopping 22% market share. Whereas, Apple claimed the second position with a 21% share. Xiaomi with 5 million shipments and Vivo with 5.4 million shipments stand fourth and third in the list respectively.

Canalys affirms that the vendors are optimising “retail, local sourcing, manufacturing, and research and development” and are persistent to stay bullish to fuel the market for long-term avenues even though the Indian market is experiencing an early-year struggle

The Canalys report states that Samsung with its latest 5G-powered A-series,,Galaxy A and Galaxy S smartphones has created an impact on the offline market. On the other hand, a new offline battle is to emerge as Apple steps in with its new retail stores which are aimed to “further enhance its brand experience and position.” in the country. These two tech giants have enabled India’s smartphone export growth. In the Q1 2023 India has seen a record-breaking export value of almost $4 billion.

Global Smartphone Market

India is not the only smartphone to be hit by this insurgence, globally there has been threatening trends with a market decline stall with dropping by 12% compared to the last year. Low consumer confidence, excess inventory, rising prices, and supply chain inadequacies have impacted the industry. This is the fifth quarter in a row where the market has seen a slump.

Sanyam Chaurasia, an analyst at Canalys, revealed “As disposable income gradually rises, consumers are willing to spend more on premium devices. To succeed in this segment, brands must prioritise availability, affordability and aspirational value. Going forward, brands should also emphasise export strategy to align with the government’s initiatives.”

However, with elevation in demand for certain products and vendors initiating in production planning and innovation, there are signs of recovery for the market growth.

Here are 5 leaked iPhone 15 series features that we know of so far

iPhone 15 series has been in the limelight when it comes to leaks and rumours. The upcoming Apple lineup will be launched in the second half of this year and it might come with a whole new different design as the tech-giant changes iPhone’s design after three generations. Similarly, there are many rumours leaked on the internet, let’s have a look at them. The Apple iPhone 15 will essentially be the successor to the iPhone 14.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max to feature Periscope lens

A report by MacRumors suggests that iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to launch with a Periscope lens which can zoom the picture up to 5-6x.

A Periscope lens works in a similar way to its traditional optical instrument counterpart. It allows light to travel a longer distance, enabling the camera to take high-quality photos with high magnification without sacrificing the phone's size.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro to feature Taptic buttons

Iphone

A tipster known as chenwen1987 has leaked the CAD files which reveal that the company might introduce a solitary button for controlling the volume in the iPhone 15 Pro, instead of having separate buttons for increasing and decreasing the volume as found in their earlier models. The new button, namely Taptic, will be able to sense pressure and register volume adjustments without requiring any physical movement.

Apple iPhone 15 series might feature USB Type-C Port

The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch with the USB Type-C Port instead of its Lightning Port. This might happen to comply with a new European law that requires all electronic devices to have USB-C-type ports.

Apart from that, the company could also make the bezel slimmer and the smartphones will reportedly have more curved edges.

Apple iPhone 15 performance

iPhone 15

iPhone 15 and the bigger variant iPhone 15 Plus will likely be equipped with Apple’s A16 chipset and the Pro models could boast the A17 chip paired with increased RAM. There are rumours circulating that the A17 Bionic chipset will be based on 3nm technology, which is expected to make it both more powerful and more energy-efficient compared to previous chipsets.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro variants price hike

A known analyst, Jeff Pu, has suggested that Apple iPhone 15 Pro models might see a price hike this year in comparison to iPhone 14 Pro models because of the changes Apple is making in the smartphones which include an A17 chipset, Titanium Frame, Periscope lens and more.

Will Sam Altman beat death ChatGPT creator backs anti-ageing research startup

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI which created the ChatGPT AI chatbot, made waves by announcing a multi-million dollar investment into a little-known life sciences startup that’s trying to solve the problem of biological ageing in humans. So in essence they’re trying to conquer death!

When Retro Biosciences, in 2022, announced that the company is launching with $180 million initial funding with the aim “to increase healthy human lifespan by ten years”, the biotechnology ecosystem was thrilled and sceptical as to the existence of the company, how it would accomplish this claim and above it all who were the investors that believed so passionately in this concept. To our surprise the MIT report disclosed, there’s only one investor who has invested 180$ million in the venture and he is none other than the ChatGPT mastermind, Open AI’s CEO, Sam Altman.

The 37-year-old start-up genius, Sam Altman has made a path breaking advancement in technology with his artificial-intelligence company which offer electronic art programs and conversation AI who have been redefining the systems with human-like capabilities. Now we can further understand the ambitions of the CEO as he has invested his money in two other programs. Helion Energy, a fusion power start-up that required him to invest more than $375 million and the other is Retro which asked for $180 million funding. Altman made the investments in the same year.

What is Retro Biosciences

Where Altman has invested in Helion Energy that aspires to tame atom smashing and promises to create a “limitless source of clean energy”, Retro’s is attaining the solution on how to rejuvenate our bodies and prolong life, said the CEO and cofounder, who is better known for inventing the world’s smallest personal computer, Joe Betts-LaCroix. The company has “cellular drivers of ageing” and will be working on three programs. The three programs are aimed at cellular reprogramming, autophagy and plasma-inspired therapeutics. The company aids at achieving a process that is capable of multi-disease prevention. Retro states that its mission “is to increase healthy human lifespan by 10 years.”

However, is this truly achievable well according to Altman, hard startups have a better chance than the easy ones. While fusion and life extension could be unachievable projects, a few years ago everyone suggested that maybe AI could at one point pass a medical exam, and Open AI’s ChatGPT did this year, hence investing in implausible ideas is a double edged sword.

Increase of 10 years in human life span?

There are multiple startups who have been working on the idea of longevity in different verticals of healthcare and medical treatments.

Betts-LaCroix’s interest in cellular reprogramming involved techniques that could transform the cells to be younger through genetic engineering. Retro teamed up with the Chinese researcher, Sheng Ding, the developer of new ways to reprogram cells for the same. And the CEO finally thought of processes that cells use to dispose of toxins which is known as autophagy. If the company achieves the said goal, the healthcare industry will have an avenue to build upon treatments for cancer and heart diseases.

Apart from Retro there are other startups who are aiming to fight death, below is the list to explore their avenues of beating death and prolonging life. Longevity Vision Fund - Neurodegenerative disease Tempus - Gene editing, epigenetic programming and organ regeneration Elysium Health - Biological age index Valo Health - Age-defying unicorns
