Updated BSNL STVs now offering 10GB 4G data per day, starting at Rs 96

State-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is on a spree of updating STVs and offering some of the most attractive plans to its subscribers right now. BSNL has trying to compete with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and other telcos with its range of prepaid plans. Previously, BSNL didn’t have a robust 4G network, which put it behind other telcos. However, BSNL has established a robust 4G network. It offers 4G subscribers 10GB daily data to stream and download.

BSNL has launched the Rs 96 STV plan, which is applicable for users in 4G network circles that includes  the Maharashtran circle with regions like Akola, Bhandara, Beed, Jalna, Osmanabad and other nearby regions covered. The validity of this plan is 28 days, which means users will get up to 280GB data to use.

The other STV is Rs 236, which offers 10GB daily data to users as well. The difference is, it has 84 days of validity. That is, users will be able to download up to 840GB data throughout the validity period. It is worth noting that the 10GB data benefit is only applicable in circles where 4G network is active.

“BSNL is shipping the most attractive data plan and is offering the most data out of all the other telecom operators. The introduction of these two new STVs is going to help the telecom operator in luring more subscribers, especially in the area where the 4G network of BSNL has become active” says TelecomTalks.

Earlier this month, BSNL revised the Abhinandan-151 plan to offer 500MB extra daily data to its users. It was launched in Tamil Nadu and Chennai. However, after the revision, the plan now comes with more data benefits. the Abhinandan-151 plan comes with a validity period of 24 days and it now offers 1.5GB data per day. Furthermore, the plan offers unlimited local, STD and roaming calls and 100 SMS per day for early subscribers, which remains the same as the plan before revision.

OnePlus opens its largest R&D center in Hyderabad

OnePlus opened its largest R&D center at Hyderabad, promising to invest over Rs 1000 crores in the next three years. This is in fact the third R&D facility of the company after Shenzhen and Taipei. The one in Hyderabad will eventually house over 200 employees spread across five floors over 186000 square feet. The facility will be headed by Ramagopala Reddy Palukuri as company’s vice president for R&D in India.

The R&D facility, OnePlus said, will cater to both the needs of the Indian market and the global market. Majority of the revenues come from the Indian market where OnePlus is the leader in the premium segment, and according to Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, India, OnePlus devices are the leading contributor to the growth of the premium segment with Samsung and Apple’s shares shown to be stagnating.

The R&D center will house three labs. A camera lab, where the company plans to set up equipment to both tune the camera to the needs of Indian users and develop new machine-learning applications in imaging. For that, OnePlus plans to hire new talent to spearhead camera development.

One, OnePlus will be hiring image quality engineers to ensure higher DxO scores. Alongside that, OnePlus is looking for computer vision engineers to develop AI and augmented reality-based camera features. Thirdly, OnePlus will be hiring people with local insights to improve the experience of Indian users when it comes to the OnePlus camera.

Apart from the imaging labs, OnePlus will also open a communications and networking labs where it will be conducting 5G field-testing in collaboration with Qualcomm and the major telecom providers in India. Finally, there will be an automation lab that will focus on testing devices to see how they last over time.

With the Shenzhen R&D facility spearheading hardware and product development, the India R&D center will primarily focus on the software side of things. Already, features like the Zen Mode (launched with the OnePlus 7 series) and the smart SMS inbox feature, have come out of India and later rolled out globally. Now, OnePlus said it will be contributing to the Digital India initiative and focus collaborating with multiple startups in India to offer customised services. But OnePlus was quick to note that they won’t simply pre-load apps on its devices. Instead, they will be customised with OnePlus’ own UX.

To spearhead software development, OnePlus will be relocating product managers to Hyderabad and hire talents from leading engineering colleges. The company has already initiated campus hiring programs in IIT Delhi and IIT Mumbai last year.

Vivo V17 Pro teased in Big Boss promo, expected to launch in India this September

We recently reported that Vivo is gearing up to launch a new Z-series of the smartphone in India. Now, it seems like the company will soon launch another Vivo smartphone in the country since it has teased a handset in the Big Boss promo trailer, which is an Indian reality TV show. Oppo will be a sponsor of the upcoming reality TV series and it seems like the handset teased in the promo video is the rumoured Vivo V17 Pro. The promo video starts off with the celebrity Salman Khan holding the handset in a way that conceals its rear panel. Only the lower half of the device can be seen, which is white in colour with a gradient design and Vivo logo at the bottom.

The Vivo V17 Pro is expected to succeed the Vivo V15 Pro, which was a camera-centric handset with a pop-up front camera. It was also one of the first phones in its segment that came equipped with an AMOLED display, triple rear cameras, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Vivo V17 Pro is also expected to feature a similar design with a pop-up camera that houses the front camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor. As for the main cameras, it seems like smartphone makers are moving towards incorporating four cameras on the back, instead of the now-standard three sensors.
