Samsung unveils Exynos 990 7nm SoC, supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, 108MP camera and more

Samsung has unveiled its latest addition to the Exynos 900-family, the Exynos 990 chipset. The SoC uses 7nm EUV (Extreme Ultra Violet) lithography processing technology, which is the same as Exynos 9825 that powers the Galaxy Note10. It is said to provide better battery efficiency. The tri-cluster CPU structure consists of two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores, two custom cores, and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. It has embedded Arm Mali-G77 GPU, which the company says improves graphic performance or power efficiency by up to 20 percent.

The Exynos 990 chipset comes equipped with a dual-core neural processing unit (NPU) and digital signal processor (DSP) that, according to the company can perform over ten-trillion operations (TOPs) per second. As for the modem, The Exynos 990 SoC sports 5G Exynos Modem 5123 modem, which supports a range of networks such as 5G’s sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrums to 2G GSM/CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA and 4G LTE.

The Exynos 990 SoC supports  LPDDR5 with data rates of up to 5,500 megabits per second (MB/s), which is wider memory bandwidth than its predecessor with LPDDR4x. Further, the chipset also supports 120Hz refresh-rate display driver alongside 10-bit video and HDR display support. The new Exynos SoC also supports up to six individual sensors with ultra-high resolution up to 108MP and is able to process three sensors concurrently.

Samsung Exynos 990 chipset also has DRAM encryption engine to protect data with faster processing speed. There’s also an Integrated secure element (iSE) layer that stores and handles personal data separately from the OS environment

The new Exynos 990 chipset and Exynos Modem 5123 are expected to begin mass production by the end of this year. Therefore, we can expect them to be a part of the Samsung Galaxy S11 launching next year.

Redmi Note 8, Note 8 Pro to go on sale again today through Amazon, Mi Home Stores, Micom

Both the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Note 8 were launched in India recently. Since then, the two smartphones have gone on sale two times. Both phone will be up for grabs again, today, October 25. Redmi Note 8, Note 8 Pro will be sold through Amazon.in, Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores at 12 noon. 

As for the price, Redmi Note 8 Pro will cost purchasers Rs 14,999 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, whereas the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 15,999. The top variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage is priced at Rs 17,999. On the other hand, Redmi Note 8 price in India starts at Rs 9,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model will cost buyers Rs 12,999. 

While the Redmi Note 8 Pro is available in Gamma Green, Halo White, and Shadow Black colour options, Redmi Note 8 will be made available in Moonlight White, Neptune Blue, and Space Black colour options.

Redmi Note 8 specifications

The Redmi Note 8 features a 6.3-inch FHD+ screen with a dot drop notch. It packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor. The phone comes equipped with 4GB and 6GB RAM, and up to 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone is powered by a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. It runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie. 

On the optics front, the Redmi Note 8 sports a quad rear camera setup: a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor with f/1.79 lens + an 8MP Ultra-Wide lens + a 2MP depth sensor + a 2MP Macro lens. The 13MP front shooter is housed in the notch. 

Redmi Note 8 has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It also comes with USB Type-C and a headphone jack.

Redmi Note 8 Pro features a 6.53-inch FHD+ LCD display and comes with a waterdrop notch. The device also sports a curved Gorilla Glass 5 panel on the back. The phone also comes with built-in support for Amazon Alexa.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G90T chipset. It has been launched in three variants: 6GB RAM + 64GB, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and storage 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Further, it has liquid cooling support for improving the gaming experience. 

In the camera department, Redmi Note 8 Pro sports a quad rear camera setup: a Samsung-developed 64MP sensor + an 8MP ultra-wide lens + a 2MP depth sensor + a 2MP macro lens. On the front lies a 20MP camera.
