Twitter will now alert users when they try to like a flagged or labelled tweet

It looks like Twitter will now warn its users when they try to like a labelled tweet. In an effort to curb the spread of ‘fake news’, Twitter announced on Tuesday that the warning feature will hit iOS devices with a planned rollout to Android devices in the coming weeks. Twitter has been criticized in the past for censoring opinions and voices that do not conform with mainstream politics and it looks like the social media platform is sticking to their guns regarding labelled tweets.

Giving context on why a labeled Tweet is misleading under our election, COVID-19, and synthetic and manipulated media rules is vital. These prompts helped decrease Quote Tweets of misleading information by 29% so we're expanding them to show when you tap to like a labeled Tweet. pic.twitter.com/WTK164nMfZ

This actually started during the 2020 US elections. During the hotly contested elections between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, users were warned when they tried to retweet a flagged tweet. But this time, Twitter is expanding the feature and will hit devices soon. Twitter stated that “Giving context on why a labelled Tweet is misleading under our election, COVID-19, and synthetic and manipulated media rules are vital. These prompts helped decrease Quote Tweets of misleading information by 29 per cent so we're expanding them to show when you tap to like a labelled Tweet.”.

Twitter also stated that users will have to click through the warning message to actually see the tweet. They will also then be able to retweet, quote, like the tweet. Twitter also said that replies will be turned off on those labelled tweets.

Motorola could be developing a flagship phone dubbed Nio with 105Hz refresh rate

Motorola could be working on a flagship phone with the model number XT2125 codenamed “Nio” that allegedly has a 105Hz refresh rate display. The key specifications of the phone have also been leaked online but it is not yet confirmed as to when we will see the phone make its debut. Being a flagship phone, the “Nio” is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor however, it is the refresh rate of the display that has intrigued many people.

According to a report by XDA developers and Technik News, Motorola is testing a smartphone dubbed Nio with a 105Hz refresh rate display. While it is common for smartphone displays to have higher refresh rate now, generally the rate at which the screen refreshes elements is in the multiples of 24 or 30 which is why we see phones with a refresh rate of 90Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz.

Motorola is testing a default peak refresh rate of 105Hz for "nio". I've never seen a phone or display default to 105Hz, so it could just be something they're testing like how ASUS has a 160Hz mode on the ROG Phone 3. https://t.co/bUr8Jngek0

— Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) November 24, 2020

However, we have also seen phones such as the Asus ROG Phone 3 featuring a test mode that takes the refresh rate up to 160Hz. So it is currently unclear whether Motorola will actually end up introducing 105Hz refresh rate display with its upcoming smartphone or will restrict it to 90Hz. Some key specifications of the phone have also leaked giving us an overview of what to expect from this Motorola flagship.

Here's all of the specs of the #Motorola #Nio that myself, @MishaalRahman and @NilsAhrDE have so far! https://t.co/fkA4va87Xv

The Motorola Nio is rumoured to feature a 6.7-inch display with a Full HD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels) resolution along with dual selfie cameras on the top. The screen may or may note support 105Hz refresh rate. The phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with an octa-core CPU and is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage option. It is expected to run on Android 11 out-of-the-box with Moto customizations.

The phone reportedly has a triple camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 64MP camera that uses the OmniVision OV64B image sensor, a secondary 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP primary front-facing camera along with an 8MP secondary selfie camera.

One of the highlighting features about this phone is the new “Audio zoom” feature that adjusts the audio focus when recording a video as and when the user zooms in or out of the frame. The phone is also expected to pack in a 5,000mAh battery that will likely support some kind of fast charging system.

While there is no official word from Motorola about the smartphone in question, we expect the company to make things official in the coming weeks.

Mortal Kombat 11 hits all the right nostalgia feels with the Klassic MK Movie Skin pack

We all remember the tune. You secretly hum it and catch yourself doing it unintentionally. What am I talking about? It’s the unforgettable Mortal Kombat theme song from 1995, that’s what! Let’s be honest here, even though the film was not very good, it still is one of the best video game film adaptations out there. We got cool fights like Liu Kang vs Reptile and the awesome Johnny Cage vs Scorpion battle, one of the best cinematic monsters in Goro and a wicked, wicked soundtrack to go with it. So, it comes as no surprise that Mortal Kombat 11’s got the sick Klassic MK Movie Skin pack for fans of the 1995 film.

We've already got the iconic, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung but now we've also got the always cool Christopher Lambert as Raiden, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras as Sonya and the awesome Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage. The actors even recorded new lines for the game. For fans of the first MK and the subsequent film, this is a real trip down memory lane as the 1995 film was incredibly influential in  getting future video game adaptations made. Again, it was not the best film out there but it did the video game justice and that’s all we, as gamers, can ask for.

It has begun! Stars from the 1995 Mortal Kombat film reprise their roles in #MKUltimate. The Klassic MK Movie Skin pack is available for separate purchase today. pic.twitter.com/90REEXKrNp

— PlayStation (@PlayStation) November 24, 2020

The Klassic MK Skin Pack costs Rs 219 on Steam. Do remember that you do need to buy the base MK 11 game to access the DLC. We’re hoping that this trend continues, and we get a Liu Kang Klassic Skin, and maybe even the Lin Kuei costumes from the film. But in the meantime, let’s all hum the ‘klassic’ tune, once more.

Twitter asks users to help build its verification policy, new process to be available in early 2021

Twitter is preparing to relaunch its public verification program after suspending the popular blue badge of honour back in 2017. At the time, the social media platform was widely criticised and the company paused all general verifications until further notice. As we head into 2021, the company has announced that it is preparing a new verification policy and plans to re-introduce the public verification process early next year.

“Three years ago, we paused our public verification program after hearing feedback that it felt arbitrary and confusing to many people. A year later, we deprioritized this work further to focus on protecting the integrity of the public conversation around critical moments like the 2020 US election. Since then, we haven’t been clear about who can become verified and when, why an account might be unverified, or what it means to be verified,” Twitter wrote on a blog post.

Twitter is calling its users to share feedback on the draft of its new verification policy that will define what it means to be verified on the platform, who all are eligible to receive the blue badge and can be seen as a crucial step by the company. Twitter’s new verification policy also defines why some accounts may lose their verification in case the account is inactive from a long time or the profile is incomplete. Furthermore, the company has also detailed guidelines in the draft to remove verification badges from accounts that are in repeated violation of Twitter rules.

We're planning to relaunch verification in 2021, but first we want to hear from you. Help us shape our approach to verification on Twitter by letting us know what you think. Take a look at our draft policy and submit your #VerificationFeedback here: https://t.co/0vmrpVtXGJ

— Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) November 24, 2020

There has been a huge backlash in the past over Twitter’s verification process where it was found that many users had received verification badges even after having a single-digit follower count. It seems like Twitter is acknowledging that issues which is why it has called for a public discourse over the new verification process.

“We recognize that there are many verified accounts on Twitter who should not be. We plan to start by automatically removing badges from accounts that are inactive or have incomplete profiles to help streamline our work and to expand this to include additional types of accounts over the course of 2021,” the company said.

Twitter has also revealed that it is planning on releasing new account types and labels for accounts in order to give people more ways to distinguish themselves on the platform.

Who is eligible to be verified on Twitter?

Twitter has defined some criteria for the different types of Notable Accounts that are selected by Twitter for verification. As per the company’s policy, the account must be notable and active to get the blue verified badge.

The new draft of the policy identifies six types of accounts as Notable accounts and these include government, companies, brands and non-profit organizations, news, entertainment, sports, activists, organizers and other influential individuals.

Twitter has also listed the type of accounts it deems ineligible for getting the verification badge. These include parody, newsfeed, commentary, fan, pets, fictional characters accounts along with those engaged in violations of Twitter’s manipulation and spam policy and accounts of people or groups engaging in harmful activities, hateful content and more.

How to share feedback with Twitter on its new verification policy?

Twitter has shared a survey on its new draft of verification guidelines that users can fill until December 8. The company says it will release the final policy on December 17 and is expected to release the new public application process in early 2021.

Additionally, users can just tweet their feedback by using the hashtag ‘VerificationFeedback’.

You can read Twitter’s draft on new verification process here and can take part in the survey here.

Google launches Task Mate in India to allow users to make money performing simple tasks on their smartphones

If you’ve ever wanted to make a bit of extra cash by just performing simple tasks on your smartphone? Well, we’ve got some good news for you guys as Google has now introduced ‘Task Mate’ in India as a trial. As you complete various tasks on Task Mate, you will be rewarded with a bit of cash. Activities like recording a spoken sentence, transcription of various sentences etc should be expected. Remember that you will have a time-frame to complete these tasks.

First spotted on Reddit, these tasks will be divided into two different sections, sitting or field tasks. We assume sitting tasks will require you to be in front of a computer, either at home or an office while field tasks will require the user to go outside to complete said task. Do note that the app is still in beta mode and there will be referral codes needed to join the service.

Also, these tasks can be complete from anywhere in the world so you could ideally start a task in India and even finish it abroad. You can also skip the tasks that you may not want to do and move on to something more of your tastes and liking. This essentially gives users the flexibility and freedom to choose their own tasks. Remember that you need a referral code to access the service so do not download the app if you do not have a referral code.

In other Google news, the company is shutting down Google Play Music and shifting the service over to Youtube Music. You can read more that here. Google Photos will also no longer allow unlimited photo storage at high-quality from June 1, 2021. You can read more about that here.
