Airtel 4G Hotspot new prepaid and postpaid plans announced with up to 126GB data

Airtel has announced new plans and pricing for its 4G Hotspot device. The company is now offering its portable 4G Hotspot for Rs 1,500 and has listed a couple of new plans on its website. One can now select either a postpaid or prepaid plan to go with an Airtel 4G Hotspot but there’s only one plan listed under each category. The new prepaid plan comes with 1.5GB daily high-speed data that is valid for 84 days, while the postpaid plan offers 75GB data for the duration of a month. While pricing of the two plans is not listed online, Digit has learned that when customers buy an Airtel 4G Hotspot device, they will get data bundled with it.

TelecomTalk claims that the postpaid plan is priced at Rs 499. The plan also falls under the unlimited pack category and after the allotted data is exhausted, it offers internet speed throttled at 80kbps. The same is applicable for the prepaid plan where a user will get to access the internet at lower speeds of 80kbps after exhausting the 1.5GB daily data that comes with the plan. The new plans come a couple of months after the company announced a 4G Hotspot plan at Rs 399 per month. While no longer available, it offered 50GB high-speed data per month after which the speeds were throttled to 80 kbps.

Back in December 2017, Airtel slashed the price of its 4G Dongle to Rs 999, down from Rs 1,950. Airtel’s 4G Hotspot device creates a Wi-Fi hotspot to which 10 devices can connect simultaneously. As per the company’s website, the device can deliver up to six hours of usage on a single charge and also supports 3G and 2G connectivity options. Airtel’s portable hotspot takes on Jio’s JMR 1140 4G hotspot device, which is also available for Rs 999. It also supports up to 10 devices at once and gives access to Jio’s 4G LTE network, along with making VoLTE calls.

Samsung Galaxy M40 to unveil in early June, launch date still unconfirmed

With an aim to regain the lost market share, Samsung launched the Galaxy M-Series of phones in India. Till now, the company has launched three phones called the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, and Galaxy M30, and there are rumours that the South Korean company will launch the fourth phone in the series soon. According to several media reports, Samsung will launch the Galaxy M40 on June 11, however, industry sources have told Digit that the phone in question will not launch on the said date. Though, they did confirm that the phone will be unveiled in the first half of June.

A lot of information about the phone's internals have already been leaked. A previous report claimed that the Galaxy M40 will tout 128GB onboard storage. The handset has already been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance and the certification revealed that it would be the first device in the series to come with Android Pie out-of-the-box. It was also reported that the phone will reportedly bear SM-M405F model number. Incidentally, a device with the same model number was spotted on Geekbench as well.

The above-mentioned certification and benchmarking websites highlighted that under the hood, the phone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 675 can be seen as a major upgrade over the Exynos 7904 that powers both the Galaxy M20 and the Galaxy M30. There are rumours that the phone may offer a 5,000 mAh battery and a Super AMOLED display. It may sport a triple-rear camera setup, and just like the previous three devices, it is speculated that the phone could launch in India first.

YouTuber Technical Guruji has also revealed a few details about the Galaxy M40. According to a video, the phone will sport an Infinity-O display, which basically a display with punch-hole. The video suggests that the phone will feature a triple camera setup, placed vertically, and a fingerprint sensor in the centre of the back panel. There is also a mention of Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor. These specs are the same that have been reported so far, however, Digit advises that readers should wait for an official confirmation from the company.

Moto Z4 Amazon listing pulled after a user bought it and posted an unboxing video online

Motorola was rumoured to be working on its next smartphone in its Z series called the Moto Z4. Several leaks and reports about the smartphone offered information about the device but it seems like the device went up for sale without any prior announcement. A Redditor noticed that the yet to be officially announced Moto Z4 was listed on Amazon ahead of the launch and another Redditor purchased it to record and post an unboxing video of the handset. The smartphone listing was later taken down and it’s yet to be known if someone slipped up or whether this was intentional.

The Amazon listing confirms most of the phone’s specs. It is said to come equipped with a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display with a 2,340 x 1080 resolution and feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The handset is listed running on the Snapdragon 675 SoC, coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. In terms of camera, the phone is touted to feature a single 48MP sensor on the back that is capable of producing 12MP binned images. On the front is a 25MP single camera sensor, which is placed in a waterdrop notch.

As one would expect, the Moto Z4 is also seen featuring contact points on the back to attach Moto mods. In the phone’s first impression video, the handset is also said to have a problem as the Moto mod doesn’t really sit flush with the phone and there’s a slight gap between the rear panel and the mod. Since the handset is yet to be officially announced, we can’t be sure if the problem is actually because of the mod or the phone or if the person who ordered it received a pre-production unit. In any case, the official launch date of the Moto Z4 is still unknown.

TikTok owner Bytedance is developing a smartphone: Report

TikTok owner Bytedance is planning to expand from just being an app developer to a phone-maker. If a media report is to be believed, the company is working on a smartphone that would draw on acquired patents and talent from a Chinese phone maker Smartisan. It wouldn’t be surprising at all if the phone comes loaded with ByteDance apps. The report in Engadget (via The Financial Times) did not give any information on the specs and features, but apparently, company founder Zhang Yiming had “long dreamt” of launching a phone. The report also says that the smartphone will be aimed at the Chinese market.

The news comes a week after ByteDance was reportedly developing a music service for emerging markets. Bloomberg reported that the company aims to challenge leading players like Spotify and Apple Music. The company has apparently secured rights from India’s top music labels - T-Series and Times Music. This is seen as a way through which the company wants to expand its footprint in the country where it was banned and then bounced back stronger.

It was also reported that the music streaming app would cater to “a handful of territories, mostly poorer countries where paid music services have yet to garner large audiences.” It is also reported that if ByteDance is to expand the music streaming business to markets like Europe and the Americas, it will have to secure rights from the global leaders like Universal, Warner and Sony.

Reportedly, ByteDance’s contracts with these three major labels expired in the Spring. These labels provided audio clips which TikTokers used to make short videos on the platform. The new app is apparently not named after TikTok, and ByteDance will reportedly try to convert some of TikTok’s audience into “paying customers.” As far as the music library is concerned, the app is said to include a catalogue of songs available on-demand.
