RedmiBook 14 with 10th Gen Intel Processors set to launch on August 29

Redmi is all set to release the new Redmi Note 8 series of smartphones, but it looks like we should brace ourselves before the launch. It appears Redmi could launch the Note 8 series, Redmi TV, and RedmiBook 14 on August 29. The company ventured into the domain of PCs earlier this year with the launch of the RedmiBook 14 laptop. This year’s model is touted to be powered by the 10th gen Intel processors.

The updated RedmiBook will launch on August 29. The Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro are launching on the same day in China. Redmi claims that the new RedmiBook 14 will bring a performance boost of 13 percent. The announcement was shared in a post on the official Mi Notebook Weibo account. It indicates that the RedmiBook 14 will be launched in multiple colour variants.

Gizmochina says, “We do not know if this processor is one of the 10nm Ice Lake CPUs or one of the 14nm Comet lake CPUs that were announced last week. What we do know is that the 10th Gen RedmiBook 14 computer will cost more than the top-end model powered (Core i7 + 512GB SSD) by an 8th Gen processor which is priced at ¥4999 (~$704).”

Not much is known about the specifications and features of the RedmiBook 14 right now. The original RedmiBook 14 featured a 14-inch ultra-narrow full-HD display with 178° wide viewing angle and 250 nits brightness, 8GB RAM with Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics. The device could come with the same screen providing an 81.2 percent screen-to-body ratio, a full-sized keyboard, HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The original RedmiBook 14 weighs at 1.5Kgs and comes with a 19mm full-sized keyboard. Moreover, the notebook is 17.95mm thick. Until will get more information, you can read this article to find out everything we know about the Redmi Note 8.

Google Nest Hub First Impressions: Google Strikes Back

Let’s be honest. In the Indian smart speaker market, it’s Amazon that has the upper hand in terms of market share and number of devices. In March this year, we reported that Amazon’s Echo line-up commanded a 59-percent market share in 2018 while Google came second with a 39-percent market share for the same year. Now, however, there’s a slight chance of that changing. Enter the Google Nest Hub.

Google originally launched the Nest Hub in October last year as the Home Hub. Somewhere along the way in May this year, it decided to rebrand it as the Nest Hub after completing its acquisition of the American home automation company Nest. The Google Nest Hub currently sells on Flipkart in two colour options namely Chalk and Charcoal for a price of Rs 9,999. We received our review unit a while ago. What do we think of it so far?

Initial Setup

Getting the device out of the box and setting it up for use was a fairly simple process. The Google Nest Hub vaguely resembles an LCD monitor from the 2000s with an exceptionally thick base, in my opinion. At any rate, I thought it looked very pleasing on any tabletop surface. The display too appeared to be bright and colourful. In my experience, setting up the Nest Hub was no more difficult than setting up the Amazon Echo Show 5, the Nest Hub’s most direct competitor. You can read our review of that here.

During the initial setup, the Google Nest Hub expected me to set my account up using the Google Home app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices. In comparison, the Amazon Echo Show 5 allowed me to set it up without depending on a smartphone app. After setup, the Google Home app showed me around the device. The setup tutorial wasn’t elaborate or complex. It used diagrams to tell me how to adjust the volume of the speaker and mute the microphone. In summary, the setup process was far from being painful, as is the case with some devices.

First Day

My first day with the Google Nest Hub was pleasant. The device recognised and obeyed simple commands such as, “play songs by ZHU”, “play a Tamil song”, and “set an alarm for 7:00 am”. The sound output wasn’t particularly great but it wasn’t terrible either. It was similar to the output of a tiny Bluetooth speaker, like say, the Blaupunkt BT-01. I was disappointed to see absolutely no port on the back aside from the round-pin power connector. More specifically, I was disappointed to see the lack of an audio line-out. Hooking up a smart home device like the Philips Hue Starter Kit was a simple affair but how well the experience was is something we’ll cover in the review.

At night, the Nest Hub’s display automatically dimmed to an impressive near zero, ensuring I wasn’t awoken or even slightly bothered by the backlight. Weaving through the device’s touchscreen interface was an easy affair but users new to a device like this may find it difficult, I feel. I say that partly because, like the latest version of Android, the Nest Hub relies on gesture-based touch inputs. For example, just swiping up and swiping up all the way from the lower edge are two different actions and result in different responses. That said, at first glance, the UI seems to be as friendly as that of the Echo Show 5, if not simpler. A full review should tell you more about it.

First Impressions: Cute

It’s hard to say from just a day or two of use whether Google’s new toy for smart home lovers is worth its price tag. What I like so far about it are the looks and overall friendliness. I loved that the display did not blind me at night, something the Amazon Echo Show 5 could not help but do. That said, I’m still bummed that Google has not thrown in a 3.5mm audio jack. That’s going to make audiophiles raise an eyebrow, including mine. With that, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to give the new Nest Hub a proper review.

Oppo Reno2 shows up in leaked images, AnTuTu and video teasers ahead of August 28 launch

Oppo is all set to launch its Reno2 smartphone in India on August 28 and ahead of the launch, the smartphone maker confirmed some key specs of the device. We already know that the Oppo Reno2 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor and will come with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Now, some more information about the upcoming handset has surfaced online, which includes some leaked photos and an AnTuTu listing, via Gizmochina, and some leaked video teasers that reveal more about the Oppo Reno2. While the former two revelations come from unverified sources, the video teaser was posted by Oppo on Weibo.

Starting with the AnTuTu listing, it shows the results of an OPPO PCKM00 smartphone, which is reportedly the Oppo Reno2. The phone scores 259109 in the benchmark’s tests, which is slightly higher than the one we have seen on the Redmi K20 that is powered by the Snapdragon 730 and scores around 218,625 on the AnTuTu benchmark. The phone is listed running on Android 9 with the Snapdragon 730G processor and 8GB RAM with 128GB of storage. These specs of the phone are already outed by the company. As for the video teasers, Oppo has posted on Weibo, they confirm that new wireless noise-cancelling headphones will also be launched alongside the handset. In addition, the Reno2 will be announced in Ocean Heart and Misty Powder colour options in China.

As for the leaked images, a user has posted a couple of purported Oppo Reno2 live images on Slashleaks. While the phone was shown off officially in one of the teaser videos posted by the company, the leaked images show off the handset’s rear panel in a better light. The Oppo Reno2 is seen featuring four cameras on the back that are centrally aligned and vertically stacked. On the right sits an LED flash and on the bottom is the Oppo logo. It seems like the rear panel features a glossy look.

Samsung Galaxy M30s to be launched in September: Report

Several months after launching the Galaxy M30 smartphone, Samsung appears to be poised to launch the Galaxy M30s. According to a recent report by IANS, Samsung will launch the Galaxy M30s next month at a starting price of around Rs 20,000. The Samsung Galaxy M30s is expected to come with a triple camera setup on its back panel, among other improvements to the original Galaxy M30. You can read our review of the Galaxy M30 here.

According to a recent report by India Today, the upcoming Galaxy M30s is expected to be powered by a new Exynos processor that has never been seen on an M-series Galaxy smartphone before. In addition, it is expected to have three cameras on its back panel, one of which could be a 48MP sensor from Sony. The Galaxy M30s is also said to be powered by “an industry-first battery”, although what that is has not yet been confirmed. Our guess is that there’s a bump in the battery capacity, as if the 5000mAh unit on the Galaxy M30 wasn’t big enough to begin with.

The Galaxy M30s could also support fast-charging, a technology many mid-range models of today feature. Like the Galaxy M30, the Galaxy M30s is expected to come in two variants: 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. While the Galaxy M30 sold for a starting price of Rs 14,990 at the time of its launch, the upcoming Galaxy M30s could start at a price close to Rs 20,000. The increase in price can be attributed to the improvements and additions to the phone.

A few days ago, we reported that Samsung had launched the Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s with incremental camera upgrades. The Galaxy M30s launch is of a similar nature. “Smartphones are a vital part of people’s lives, connecting them, allowing them to share their experiences and engage with the world. The new Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s are the next step in delivering next-level performance to essential everyday features,” Yeonjeong Kim, Vice President and Head of Innovative Product Planning Group, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics had said in a statement at that time. Expect to hear more about Samsung Galaxy M30s from us in the coming days.

Redmi K30 is coming, will have 5G support: Lu Weibing

Since its launch, the Redmi K20 has been the center of attention. Now, it looks like Redmi is already prepping for the launch of the K20 successors. It has officially been revealed that a 5G successor of the Redmi K20 is coming soon, and it will be called the Redmi K30. The announcement was made on August 25 by Lu Weibing, Redmi General Manager, on his Weibo page.

Weibing took to the Chinese microblogging site Weibo to announce the name of the K20’s successor. He also revealed that the Redmi K30 will have 5G support. Although it is rather exciting news, not much is known about the Redmi K30 right now. The company is yet to confirm the launch timeline, however, we can expect it to launch sometime near May 2020.

We don’t know if the Redmi K30 will have both 4G and 5G models or only a 5G version. However, the Redmi K30 is likely to come with two connectivity options. The device is expected to follow the same strategy as the Redmi K20 series, and include the flagship chipset.

To recall, The Redmi K20 series feature a 3D four-curved large arc body and a front camera module that is housed in a pop-up module. The K20 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, whereas, the Xiaomi Redmi K20 houses the mid-range Snapdragon 730 SoC.    The two smartphones are equipped with a 6.39-inch Full HD+ display with a 1080 x 2340p resolution. They also have Game Turbo technology, which is said to enhance gaming, network, touch response and visuals while gaming.

In terms of optics, the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro come equipped with a triple rear camera setup. There’s a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.5 aperture, which is paired with an 8MP telephoto camera that offers 2x optical zoom with an f/2.4 aperture lens. A 13MP ultra wide-angle camera is also present. A 20MP front shooter is housed in the pop-up module.

PS5 design leaked online, game developer confirms its a devkit

The internet has been abuzz speculating about the leaked patient image for the PS5. The leak, which comes courtesy of lets go digital, showcases the console with a prominent V cutout at the top that looks like it is designed for ventilation. It also looks like it has a number of USB ports upfront (5 to be precise) along with a disc drive. Above the disc drive there look to be some LED indicators. Matthew Stott, a veteran in the game development industry since 1992 and currently working as a senior artist at Codemasters confirmed on Twitter that the leaked render is indeed a devkit. Apparently, he and his co-workers “have a few in their office”.

He also suggested that the devkit could end up being the final unit, but we think Sony has some design tricks up its sleeves with the PS5. After the lacklustre reception with the design of the PS3, Sony upped their ‘game’ with the design of the PS4 making it look sleek and desirable. The VCR like design of the Xbox One also added to the appeal of the original PS4.

Coming back to the PS5, Sony has confirmed that the next-generation console is in the works. In an exclusive conversation with Wired back in April 2019, Lead Architect of the upcoming PlayStation, Mark Cerny talks about some of the capabilities of Sony’s next console. It is logical that the next-generation PlayStation be called the PS5, however, throughout the conversation with Wired, Cerny referred to it as the next-generation PlayStation. Could Sony be thinking of calling it the PSV instead of the PS5? Hence the design choice? Perhaps, but we are just speculating.

In the conversation, Mark told Wired, “The key question is whether the console adds another layer to the sorts of experiences you already have access to, or if it allows for fundamental changes in what a game can be.” Mark also confirmed that the PS5 won't be launching in 2019. He confirmed some details about the specifications of the PS5 saying it will have SSD storage, sport Ray Tracing and will also have advanced 3D audio. The PS5 is also confirmed to be running on the AMD Zen2 architecture with a Navi GPU. however, the details of the specifications are still unknown. Microsoft also shed some light on its upcoming console, the Scarlett and you can check out our in-depth spec comparison of the two consoles here.    The PS5 is also expected to be backwards compatible with the PS4 out of the box. Backwards compatibility is something Microsoft has highlighted this generation, offering a large library of Xbox 360 games along with some games from the original Xbox.

Microsoft is also betting big on cloud gaming in the coming generation with Project xCloud. Sony has had its game streaming service, PlayStation Now available in selected markets for some time now. With the Microsoft-Sony partnership announcement, it looks like Sony could use Microsoft's cloud solution for its gaming needs. You can read more about the partnership here.

Back in January 2019, we saw a lot of information leak about the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. A lot of that leaked information has come to pass, suggesting that the information could be legit. You can check out the leak story here.

Both Sony and Microsoft are expected to debut their respective next-generation consoles in late 2019 or early 2020 with the consoles hitting store shelves towards the end of 2020.

Samsung Galaxy A91, Galaxy A90 5G spotted on the official website

Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy Note10+ was launched with support for 45W charging. This requires a 45W USB Type-C charger with USB Power Delivery 3.0 with Programmable Power Supply (PPS). While the company doesn’t include the 45W charger in the box, it looks like the super fast charging support could expand to the A-series of smartphones soon. Samsung is yet to ship the 45W charger globally, but the official page of the product has listed two new upcoming smartphones under the list of “compatible models.”

Samsung is calling the 45W charging “super fast charging 2.0.” The product listing page shows the upcoming Galaxy A91 and Samsung Galaxy A90 5G smartphone under compatible models for super fast charging 2.0 and super fast charging, respectively. Hence, the Galaxy A91 could support 45W fast charging technology, while the Galaxy A90 5G could have the Note10-like 25W fast charging capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy A91 is rumoured to feature a 6.7-inch display with an in-screen camera positioned at the centre just like the Galaxy Note10-series. It is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. In contrast, the Galaxy A90 5G is said to sport 6.7 inch FHD+ Infinity-U Super AMOLED display and “exclusive tilt OS” technology. It might also feature a triple camera setup with 48MP, 12MP, and 5MP sensors.

Previously, the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G was reportedly spotted on Geekbench. The phone is said to sport a model number SM-A908N, which suggests flagship level specs like Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6GB RAM, and Android Pie. It is worth noting that Samsung has never used a flagship chipset on an A-series device. However, with the limited availability of 5G on flagship chipsets, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Galaxy A50 5G comes with Snapdragon 855 chipset.

The release date of both the devices are not yet. However, they are expected to launch sometime in October.
