First look at Cyberpunk 2077 running on a PS4 Pro and PS5

The most anticipated game of the year, Cyberpunk 2077 is less than 15 days away and we finally have our first look at the game running on the PS4 Pro and PS5. The game is running on the PS5 via backwards compatibility, a proper next-gen version of the game is expected to release later. How the next-gen version of the game will take advantage of the DualSense Controller, Ray-tracing and 3D Audio remains to be seen. But one can safely say that the game, with backwards compatibility, will be smoother on the PS5 when compared to the PS4 Pro. While the footage showcases PS4 Pro gameplay, it will be interesting to see how the game performs on the base consoles i.e., PS4 and Xbox One. Check out the PS4 Pro and PS5 gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 below.

The above gameplay is from an early portion of the game. When you start the game, you will have the option of three life paths to choose from which will define the origin story of your character - Nomad, Streetkid, and Corpo. Each path will open up different choices and paths that will have a ripple effect throughout the game. The above gameplay is from the Nomad path.

While it is difficult to judge the quality of the game from a 1080p YouTube video, one can confirm that the gameplay looks smooth and the world looks divine. However, it is only when we get our hands on the game that we will know how well it will perform.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on 9 platforms on December 10, 2020 - PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia and PC.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that they are working on a next-gen version of their previous game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. You can learn more about it here. December 10 is also when the 2020 Game Awards will be broadcast. The Game Awards will stream on streaming services in India and you can learn more about it here. You will be able to play Xbox games on your smart TV without an Xbox console in 2021

The ninth console generation sees the PS5 faceoff against the Xbox Series X/S for space in your living room. But this generation isn’t like previous generations where there is a box below your console and you play games on it. With services like Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and Microsoft’s xCloud, you really don't need a box below the TV or even a state-of-the-art PC to play games. While these streaming apps have been available on Android smartphones or on the PC, in some form or the other, the one place they aren’t present is on the idiot box on your living room wall. While TVs in 2020 bring with them smart assistants and the ability to connect to the internet and stream content, the one app they lack are popular game streaming services. Even to run Stadia, a user needs a Chromecast. It looks like that is about to change.

In an interview with The Verge, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, was asked, “What’s stopping you from saying, okay, Xbox is an app, it has minimum hardware specs, and we’re just going to run it on a smart TV?” To which Phil Spencer responded, “I think you’re going to see that in the next 12 months. I don’t think anything is going to stop us from doing that. I thought what you said about the TV was spot on. What we used to call a TV was a CRT that’s just throwing an image on the back of a piece of glass that I’m looking at. Now, as you said, a TV is really more of a game console stuffed behind a screen that has an app platform and a Bluetooth stack and a streaming capability. Is it really a TV anymore or is it just the form and function of the devices that we used to have around our TV, consolidated into the one big screen that I’m looking at?”

He says that one of the primary things a user uses a game console for is for streaming content from OTT platforms. The PS3 and Xbox 360 were the first consoles to get support for streaming services. Before that gaming consoles were just that - gaming consoles.

While game streaming has been portrayed as a threat to traditional consoles, in the interview Phil Spencer goes on to say, “I just push back a little bit on — this is not exactly what you said — that when streaming comes, all the consoles go away, or all my local devices that play video games go away. I’m not quite as sold on that. I think we just have to be nimble and watching what players want”.

“Streaming” your games locally is nothing new. Both Xbox and PlayStation let you stream your game to a smartphone, provided you are on the same Wi-Fi connection. So, if someone wants to watch the TV, you can continue gaming from your console on your smart device. With the growth in bandwidth and stable internet connections, one can consider streaming as an additional option to the hardware one has at home. In the PC space, there are many options like GeForce Now and Sony’s own PlayStation Now, giving users the option to stream and download games. With Game Pass available on a smart TV via an app, the barrier for entry will be lowered, especially for the price-conscious audience looking to dip their toes in console games.

Even on the Nintendo Switch, we have seen Control Ultimate Edition which is streamed rather than using the power of the console.

While streaming may be the future, devices like the Nintendo Switch have proven that people like to carry an uninterrupted console gaming experience with them on the go. The demand for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has also proven that the hardware sitting under your TV playing games isn't going away anytime soon.

A special version of the game in line with the Indian audience is being prepared for launch in India after the game was banned by the Indian government over security and privacy concerns on September 2.

According to several reports online and users who claim to have seen a premature listing on the PUBG Mobile India website, the upcoming game could be released for Android users at first. As for the Android version, users report seeing a new banner on the website that has two buttons, one that will redirect the visitor to the Play Store listing of the game while the other one allows users to download the APK file directly from its servers. That being said, either of the links is not functioning indicating that the website is being developed by PUBG Corp and will go live with more details soon. Do note however that there is no official word on when the game will launch in India and it is also very likely that PUBG Mobile India ends up being released for both Android and iOS at the same time.

PUBG Mobile India release: The story till now

Recently, PUBG India Pvt Ltd was established in India as a dedicated subsidiary of the developers PUBG Corporation. This was announced as a part of its plans for India where the developers revealed that they intend to establish an Indian subsidiary and will offer specific customisations for the Indian players in the special version. Now that the company is officially recognized by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, it's just a matter of when the game is officially released.

PUBG Corp is definitely making headway into the launch of PUBG Mobile India and has released a dedicated website, Instagram, Facebook handles and a YouTube channel.

Additionally, the company has released a teaser for the return of PUBG Mobile in India featuring three popular PUBG Mobile players-- Aaditya ‘Dynamo’ Sawant, Jonathan Amaral and Chetan ‘Kronten’ Chandgude.

PUBG Mobile India is set to release sometime soon and will feature customized content including a virtual simulation training ground, clothed characters from the start, green hit effects and restriction settings on game time to inculcate healthy gaming habits in younger players. There is no official release date for the PS5 in India but you can grab one for Rs 90,000

While the PS5 has an official price in India, the launch date seems like a distant dream. While Sony India may have their lips sealed as far as a release date is concerned, the grey market is selling the PS5 in India for an exorbitant price!

Digit visited known games and console retailer in Pune to inquire about the PS5. On the evening of the 24th of November, the retailer told Digit that he can arrange for the console for Rs 90,000. When we told him that the official India price of the Disc Edition console was Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 for the digital one, he said that the unit he was selling was an imported one and that the console isn't officially available in India.

We tried to haggle with him to bring the price down to 80k or lower, to which he said we should come back in a couple of weeks and the price of the console would be thereabout. He says that the console should be closer to its India official retail price by January as that's when it is “expected to launch officially”. This isn't too far from what we are speculating as the PS4 launched internationally in November 2013 and in India in the first quarter of 2014.

When asked if there was a demand for the console at such an inflated price, he said that he has sold some consoles, but didn't give a definitive number. The inflated price of the console is the same that has been reported by others in India.

The PS5 has been sold out worldwide. In the UK, Amazon delivery agents have been stealing PS5 and customers have been getting random objects instead of the gaming console. You can learn more about it here. In the UK, PS5 scalpers manage to snag almost 3,500 Units and are selling them for more than twice the price of the console. You can learn more about it here.
