Amazon launches Fire TV Cube in India with hands-free Alexa controls for Rs 12,999

Amazon has launched the Fire TV Cube in India. The device is priced at Rs 12,999. The Fire TV Cube is literally a small black box that sits below your TV. Not only can the Fire TV Cube be used to make your TV into a smart TV, but it also offers hands-free controls for all your Alexa enabled devices.

Amazon Fire TV Cube features and specifications

As the name suggests, the Fire TV Cube is a small cube that can fit in the palm of your hand. It has a glossy finish and, on the top, has 6 mics to catch your voice. It has the same blue light we’ve seen on Amazon Alexa speakers. Under the hood, the Amazon Fire TV Cube has a Hexa-core processor (Quad-core at up to 2.2GHz + Dual-core at up to 1.9GHz) coupled with 2GB RAM. At the back, the device has an HDMI port to connect to your TV, a power port, an IR port and a micro-USB port. On the top, the Amazon Fire TV Cube has 6 far-field mics to catch your voice. The Fire TV Cube also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi. It has 16GB of built-in storage.

The Fire TV Cube is a compact device.

The Amazon Fire TV Cube can playback content in Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. It also supports HDR 10 and HDR 10+. The device has the same UI we’ve seen on the third-gen Fire TV Stick (review). The biggest difference between the 4K Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Cube is that the cube supports hands-free voice commands and is a small box that sits below your TV rather than in the HDMI port behind it.

Amazon Fire TV Cube: What's in the box

In the box, you get the Fire TV Cube along with the new Fire TV remote control Amazon launched recently. You also get a micro-USB adapter to connect an ethernet cable to the Cube. you also get an IR extender. Sadly, there is no HDMI cable in the box.

The highlighting feature of the Fire TV Cube is the ability to switch on your TV and soundbar/home theatre by simply using your voice. The Cube can also control your set-top-box once you connect the 2 via the included IR receiver. So, you could literally tell the Cube “Alexa, tune to Colors HD on cable” “Alexa, channel up/down”, "Alexa, tune to channel [Channel Name]" and the device will do your bidding. No need to hunt for the remote control or even look for it from the get-go. The Fire TV Cube can also control your other Alexa enabled appliances, so long as you add the skill. You could tell the Cube to switch on your new Honda City before you leave the house.
