PS5 unboxing videos show how huge the console is

To say that Sony has been a bit coy when it comes to the PlayStation 5 would be a bit of an understatement. The company only recently announced the India pricing of the console and now finally we have unboxings of the console going live and one thing is pretty clear - The console is HUGE!

So what do you get in the box? Well… besides the console itself (and the manuals), you get:

DualSense controller USB Type-C charging cable for the controller HDMI 2.1 cable Power cable for the console (no bulky adapter/box) Plastic stand

Now the plastic stand is used if you place the console on its side. As there is no flat surface on either side of the console, the stand will ensure that it remains still. But you can also place it when propping up the console vertically. However, it does seem like the PS5 can stand on its own vertically if need be. IGN’s unboxing video gives you a good idea of how to place the stand.

All of the unboxing videos mention the size of the console because it is pretty large. In fact, it is larger than all other Sony PlayStation consoles, including the original PS3, which was a massive console in its own right. Gamespot has a short and sweet video that compares the size of the PS5 with all Playstations starting with the PS1 all the way to the PS4.

Of course, the PlayStation 5 also features a bunch of accessories that can be purchased separately by users. This includes secondary DualSense controllers, DualSense Charging Station that can charge two controllers at the same time, the Sony Pulse 3D wireless headset, and the Sony HD camera. MKBHD unboxes all of those accessories in his video which you can see below. Interestingly, he also notices that the white plastic on the console and the controllers features a textured pattern and looking closely, one can make out that the pattern on the texture is made of PlayStation’s controller symbols, which is a neat touch.

Of course, one of the big things about the console is the new DualSense controller. Many of the unboxing videos mention that the controller is now very similar to the Xbox One controller in terms of grip and one can see that when compared to the DualShock controllers. However, the new controller's party piece is a new haptic feedback system that uses haptic feedback, the in-built speaker and resistive triggers to enhance gaming experience. Cnet’s video talks about the system and shows it in action in one of the games.

The launch of oth the Sonly PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X is less then a month away. And while we don;t knwo who will end up winning this generation of consoles, we can safely say that console gamers have plenty to look forward too. If you are planning to uy the Sony PlayStation 5 from aroad, you need to check this out.

Netflix reportedly prepares to add an audio-only mode for background listening

Netflix is no stranger to adding new features to its platform like adding the fast forward button, lock screen option, and the latest being the speed of the video being played. Just like YouTube, it has included the option to change the playback speed as well as forwarding video. You can learn more about speeding up playback on Netflix here. On top of this,Netflix is also planning a stream fest for India customers, starting on 4-Dec, the 48-hour fest would allow customers to binge Netflix for free.

But we digress, folks over at XDA discovered a new feature called background audio playback. This was found in a teartown of the Netflix app version 7.79.1 APK teardown and suggests that it might let users listen to their favorite shows.

The following strings were found in the APK:

Save your data by turning off the video and listening to your favorite shows.

New

The video is off, but you can continue listening to your show while you are busy doing other things.

The feature can be useful in cases when you are deeply engrossed in the storyline and just can’t afford to stare at your screen, or you are running low on data and can’t miss the next big mystery unfolding. It might also suggest that Netflix may be planning to add podcasts to its list of offerings.

The ability to have an audio-only option isn’t a new feature for a streaming service. If you are a YouTube Premium member, you can stream YouTube content and switch off the display and still listen to the content playback.

As the feature is still under development, it is unclear if and when Netflix plans to release officially.

YouTube Rolling Out Player Redesign, New Gesture Controls for Android and iOS

YouTube has announced a series of Android and iOS updates as a part of the redesign of the video player page. The general look stays the same, but the company has worked to optimize the layout and placement of the buttons to make the app more easily accessible and simplify the look.

The changes in the player screen include the addition of cc (closed captions) button on the top right from the overflow menu. Similarly, the “autoplay” toggle is now almost centred at the very top of the screen. YouTube says that it will be testing the rearranged autoplay toggle design on Desktop soon.

Youtube offers more gestures to allow people to have more control over the video player, the double-tap to fast-forward or rewind video for 10 seconds was already included and now the company has added swipe up and swipe down to enter and exit the full-screen mode, respectively. Simply swipe up and the video will start playing in full-screen mode and swipe down would switch to the portrait mode.

Youtube is also boosting the Video Chapter feature by letting the users click within the player to get a list view. Users will be able to see a complete list of all chapters “included in the video that they are watching, each with a preview thumbnail of what you'll find in that chapter”

Youtube has also started rolling out suggested actions that prompt the user to rotate the phone or play a video in VR for a better experience. Also, bedtime reminders are included in the app itself to set reminders at specific times to stop watching videos and go to bed.

The company plans to introduce more features in the near future.
