Oral-B Genius X is an AI powered toothbrush that can brush-shame you

Ever heard of a toothbrush with AI? Oral-B’s Genius X is just that. The $220 (roughly Rs 15,500) uses artificial intelligence to help you brush better and maintain a better dental hygiene. The price tag, however is more than most people’s annual budget for dental health.

The toothbrush comes with sensors that detect when you’re applying too much pressure or not covering a certain area long enough. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth and shows the metrics via an app. The app, in turn, use what Oral-B calls Genius X AI algorithm to give you a rating on how well you have brushed and tell you what you can do to improve.

It’s not the first such AI toothbrush though. Oral-B also has a Bluetooth powered toothbrush from 2014 that can be programmed with the help of dentists while the Genius lineup itself was revealed in 2016. Earlier models, however, relied on your smartphone camera instead of sensors.

Now the brush has been praised by reviewers world wide, but the question remains, does your teeth really need the power of AI?

Google Search can now understand conversational language thanks to AI

Google Search now understands conversational language thanks to a fresh infusion of machine learning. Google’s Pandu Nayak elaborated in a recent blog post how a new development is one of the biggest leaps in the history of Google Search in the past five years.

The new update can now understand natural language. For instance, Search can now understand when you state qualifiers like  ‘from’ and ‘to’, resulting in results that are much closer to what you’re actually look for. All this while, Search would basically ignore these terms and words and focus only on the keywords from your query.

This is achieved thanks to BERT, or Bidirectional Encoder Representation from Transformers, a technique for training neural networks that helps a system understand context in relation to the entire sentence or phrase. Previously, the system would only understand one word in relation to the one next to it.

Google Search is also being improved through better hardware. Google is deploying cloud TPUs to train neural networks handling search queries. Below is an example of what the change will mean for the user —

The change in Google Search is subtle and not very easy to see, but it goes a long way in providing meaningful search results. Google also said it will be using BERT to improve Search with other languages.

Oppo Reno S with 64MP camera, 65W fast charging may launch in December

Oppo Reno series is not even a year old, and the smartphones saw a refresh a couple of months ago. Now, according to new rumours, the Oppo Reno lineup may expand even further before the year ends. The latest report from 91Mobiles claims that Oppo Reno S could launch in India in the month of December. The Oppo Reno S may come equipped with a 64MP camera and 65W Super VOOC fast charging support.

Oppo Reno S may be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. It is tipped to pack a 4000mAh battery that could use Reno Ace’s fast charging technology, which is said to charge the battery to 50 percent in just 10 minutes. Like the Reno Ace, Reno S is expected to sport a triple rear camera setup. However, the 48MP camera may be upgraded to 64MP, wheres there’s no information for the other camera. For reference, apart from the 48MP main sensor, Oppo Reno Ace features a 13MP telephoto camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera.

According to the rumours, Oppo Reno S may cost around Rs 40,000 in India, which is the same as the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom that arrived in India this May. It is expected to launch in the first week of December. As of now, Oppo K5 comes equipped with a 64MP main sensor, but it sports a single 8MP ultra-wide camera and is a mid-range phone. It is powered by the Snapdragon 730 chipset and supports 30W VOOC 4.0. However, it is not yet made available in India.

All this is still a rumour. Oppo Reno S could well be the Oppo Reno Ace with slightly updated hardware or the Reno Ace itself that may launch as Reso S in markets outside China.
