Apple AirPods Pro 2 rumored to launch in the first half of 2021

The reports of Apple working on releasing the new AirPods Pro 2 comes alongside the news of a new iPhone SE in the works. It is no surprise that Apple is working on refreshing its audio lineup with a successor to the AirPods Pro.

A new report claims that Apple will release a successor for the AirPods Pro in the first half of 2021. The news comes from unnamed industry sources who specifies Taiwan-based Windbound Corporation as the main supplier of NOR flash memory for the new AirPods Pro as cited by Digitimes.

“Winbond is also expected to be among the NOR flash suppliers for Apple’s next-generation AirPods Pro slated for launch later in the first half of this year, the sources indicated. The Taiwan-based chipmaker will be running its NOR flash production lines at nearly full capacity utilization during the six-month period,” reports DigiTimes.

The new AirPods Pro could also see a design change as noted in the previous reports. Apple is planning to make the new AirPods more compact by eliminating the stem with the thickness measuring the same 21mm while the height and length of the new AirPods Pro are said to be 46mm and 54mm, respectively.

The new design is still reportedly in the testing phase and could feature the new in-house W2 chip powering the AirPods Pro. The new AirPods are rumoured to come in two different sizes just as the Apple Watch. The company is also looking into improving the battery life of the device despite reducing the size of the AirPods

“It’s been a while since anything interesting happened in tech. It is time for a fresh breeze of change,” said Carl Pei, CEO and founder of Nothing. “Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. We believe that the best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use. When sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background and feel like nothing.”

The company has also revealed that it will launch its smart devices in the first half of 2021. However, there is no official word on what those devices will be. Previously, Carl has been rumoured to be working on new audio products however, as per this report by Wired, the new company is “so much more than that”.

In an interview with The Verge, Carl confirmed that Nothing will launch multiple products across different consumer technology categories, “with the eventual aim of building up an ecosystem of devices”. Carl also clarifies that Nothing is an independent company with its own R&D department and it won’t “relabel somebody else’s products.”

“Consumer tech is a tidal wave of limitless potential. Nothing will be the brand at the forefront and I can't wait for the world to experience their products,” said Casey Neistat, YouTuber and Investor in Nothing.

With the announcement, the company has also gone live with its social media handles (1,2) and a website that you can visit here.

As for OnePlus, the company recently announced that it is merging its R&D team with Oppo “to better maximize resources”, especially since both companies have been found to develop and release similar-looking smartphones. OnePlus 9 with two 48MP rear cameras surfaces in real-life images

A real-life image allegedly of the upcoming OnePlus 9 has leaked online giving us a look at the design of the phone along with other key details. OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are rumoured to launch sometime by mid-March and there are speculations that they could be joined by the OnePlus 9 Lite.

The new leak was reported by ITHome with a live image of the OnePlus 9 showing off the phone from the back and the front. The image also reveals some key details about the phone from the Settings menu. From the images, we can see that the OnePlus 9 is shown to be clad in a glossy silver finish with a large camera module in the top-left corner. The image seems to have been posted by TechDroider in a video on YouTube.

As per the leaked image, the OnePlus 9 is powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone is equipped with a 48MP primary camera, 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8MP camera as well. This particular bit is where the information deviates from previous leaks that hinted at the presence of a 50MP primary camera on the upcoming OnePlus 9 series.

Other than that, the OnePlus 9 is shown to be equipped with a 6.56-inch Full HD+ display with support for 120Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, previous leaks have indicated that the standard OnePlus 9 will have a flat display but that does not seem to be the case with the leaked image. The image purportedly of the OnePlus 9 has a screen that curves along the edges, similar to the OnePlus 8, though the punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera does seem to shrink in size for the upcoming OnePlus 9 series. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are also likely to support 65W fast charging out-of-the-box that debuted with the OnePlus 8T in October.

We will advise our readers to take the new leak with a pinch of salt as we don’t have any official information about the devices yet. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has previously indicated that the design of the OnePlus 9 lineup isn’t final yet.

OnePlus 9 series is rumoured to launch sometime by mid-March where the company could also unveil its first smartwatch alongside. The company is yet to share its plans for the launch of the OnePlus 9 series.
