Looks like Microsoft is joining the race for foldable devices which act as both smartphones and tablets. According to reports, a book named 'Beneath a Surface' written by Journalist Brad Sams reveals details about Microsoft’s rumoured Andromeda foldable phone. Last we heard of the mysterious Andromeda foldable device was in July, when reports hinted that Microsoft may have cancelled the project. Now, as per the book which describes the journey of Microsoft’s Surface hardware from inception to a $1-billion-per-year business, the Redmond-based tech giant will be releasing a smartphone/tablet Andromeda hybrid in 2019. The Surface-class device will apparently fold into half to become a phone and fold out to provide the functionality of a tablet. It will reportedly not run on the dead Windows phone OS, but will be a full-fledged Windows device with some small changes. The long rumoured ‘Andromeda’ device was also previously tipped to use a stylus. The company is reportedly experimenting with ARM processors, but it’s still not clear if the company would use Intel or Qualcomm processors inside the final device. The book further reveals that Microsoft will release new Xbox One devices and Surface laptops with AMD chips instead of Intel in 2019. A new iPad Pro competitor is also tipped to come from Microsoft and the device is said to feature a USB Type-C port, thin bezels and rounded corners. This device is said to release at the end of 2019. Lastly, there is also a mention of what could be a Surface smart speaker. According to the book, the device “is designed to help deal with some of the common frustrations of using a smartphone.” Image courtesy: David Breyer

PUBG Mobile is all the rage right now and as the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge comes to a close in Dubai, the developer has teased a team-up with Capcom’s popular upcoming survival horror title Resident Evil 2. PIBG Mobile tweeted out the information saying, “The last day of #PMSC2018 Dubai Finals. What could be more exciting than announcing that PUBG MOBILE is teaming up with @RE_Games! Something is coming very soon. #pubgmobilexre2.” The teaser for the PUBG Mobile-Resident Evil 2 crossover comes with a video of a building filled with Zombies. For now, it is not clear if the partnership will result in just RE2-inspired skins or if it will actually bring a Zombie-mode to the game, but the latter seems likely given the video. Microsoft unveils new icons for Office 365 suite of apps
Microsoft has unveiled new icons for it's Office 365 suite of apps like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Skype and more. The new icons feature bolder, lighter hues, which are combined with simplistic visuals. These icons will replace the existing designs that were introduced back in 2013. In a post on Medium, Jon Friedman, Head of Microsoft Office Design explained the philosophy behind the new icons. “Today’s workforce includes five generations using Office on multiple platforms and devices and in environments spanning work, home, and on the go. We wanted a visual language that emotionally resonates across generations, works across platforms and devices, and echoes the kinetic nature of productivity today. Our design solution was to decouple the letter and the symbol in the icons, essentially creating two panels (one for the letter and one for the symbol) that we can pair or separate. This allows us to maintain familiarity while still emphasizing simplicity inside the app.” Friedman notes that the new icons will begin rolling out in the coming months over all platforms, starting with mobile and the web. Back in September this year, Microsoft rolled out Office 2019 for the PC and Mac. Interestingly, Office 2019 is only supported on Windows 10 and not on older versions like Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. Office 2019’s MacOS support, however, includes versions 10.14, 10.13, and 10.12. Office 2019 includes updated versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The Windows edition includes maintenance-mode versions of Publisher, Access, Project, and Visio, which means they’re continuing to receive security fixes, but haven’t had any changes in the feature since Office 2016, the previous version.
