Bharti Airtels Rs 23 Smart Recharge plan extends validity by 28 days

Airtel has introduced a new ‘Smart Recharge’ of Rs 23 to give its prepaid customers an option to extend the validity of their recharge by 28 days. First spotted by TelecomTalk, the recharge bring along a few benefits but misses out on providing any data benefits to customers. Previously, Airtel was offering smart recharges starting with Rs 25, the news platform stated. The latest plan does not offer talk time or data, but will provide all local and STD calls at 2.5p/sec. Further, local SMS will be charged at Re 1 and Rs 1.5 will be charged for national SMS. The prepaid recharge is available in the telco’s Delhi circle, however, one is advised to check if it’s available in their area/circle before recharging. Prepaid customers can purchase the Rs 23 Airtel recharge directly from the Airtel.in or through the MyAirtel app. Recently, it was reported that telcos like Vodafone Idea and Airtel were imposing a minimum recharge restriction of Rs 35 on their prepaid customers. According to Airtel, their users will need to recharge with a minimum of Rs 35 to keep their connection active. If a user fails to do so, their connection will be barred from making calls and if a minimum recharge is not made in 15 days, incoming calls will also be barred on their connection. When Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) found Airtel and Vodafone Idea sending SMS alerts about the minimum recharge requirements to their consumers, it reportedly wrote to the companies asking them to clearly inform subscribers of the change within three days. Citing TRAI, Mint reported that “Trai has asked operators to duly inform subscribers within three days in a clear and transparent manner the date on which the current validity of an existing plan would expire and the manner in which the subscriber can opt for available plans including minimum recharge plan using subscriber’s available prepaid account balance.”

Google announces eSIM support for Pixel 3 smartphones in India with Airtel and Reliance Jio

Google has announced eSIM support for the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones in India. Both flagship smartphones from Google will be getting eSIM support from carriers Reliance Jio and Airtel in India, in the coming months, Google’s Director of Partnerships, Kerrie Lenhart Hogan announced in a blogpost. Previously, Reliance Jio and Airtel had lent eSIM support to Apple’s 2018 flagship smartphones - iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in India. In case of the iPhones, Reliance Jio offers eSIM services for both prepaid and postpaid customers, however, Airtel is only offers the service to its postpaid users. We expect the two telcos to follow a similar strategy when extending eSIM services to the Pixel 3 phones in India. What is eSIM? An eSIM or electronic SIM card removes the need to place a physical SIM card in the phone’s SIM slot. Google’s Pixel 2 also offered eSIM support, but the same was only extended in the US for Google’s Project Fi, now called Google Fi. an eSIM is essentially a rewritable chip embedded within your smartphone. It can be activated with the network of your choice, one that supports eSIM services. So for instance if you have an eSIM connection from Airtel and are unhappy with the same, you could switch to eSIM services from Reliance Jio without having to physically obtain a SIM card or change one in your phone. eSIM carriers and devices in India Currently, only Airtel and Reliance Jio support eSIM services in India. Vodafone Idea still does not support eSIM services. The devices that support eSIMs in India include - iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, Google Pixel 3, Google Pixel 3 XL, Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch series 3. If you own any one of these devices, you could check with Airtel or Reliance Jio for eSIM support on the devices. Alongside the announcement of eSIM services on Pixel 3 smartphones, Google also stated that it is working with other Android smartphone OEMs to build eSIM-capable smartphones. So, one can expect more Android devices to support eSIM services going forward. “We look forward to continuing our work with our partners on the potential benefits of eSIM—whether that’s getting you connected to a phone, watch, tablet, or laptop—in the future,” Google noted in its blogpost.

NVIDIA unveils 2,500 RTX TITAN Turing-based graphics card with 24 GB of VRAM

Most of the top SKUs in NVIDIA’s RTX 2000 series of cards are out with their announcement at GAMESCOM 2018. What remained was the flagship TITAN card and the mid-range 2060 and 2050 graphics cards. Most of us expected the TITAN RTX to be unveiled at CES but NVIDIA decided to make good of the hype-vacuum and unveil the TITAN RTX today. Like previous TITAN cards, the TITAN RTX is aimed at workstation loads but it’s very likely that we will see it on gaming rigs in the coming months. The only thing holding people back is the $2,500 price tag which is, surprisingly, lower than the previous TITAN V’s price tag of $2,999. Let’s take a look at the specifications.   NVIDIA RTX TITAN Specifications   Titan RTX Titan V RTX 2080 Ti Tesla V100 CUDA Cores 4608 5120 4352 5120 Tensor Cores 576 640 544 640 Core Clock 1350MHz 1200MHz 1350MHz ? The TITAN RTX even has a slightly better boost clock than the 2080 Ti and more thermal headroom as well.     From a design perspective, the TITAN RTX follows the new twin-blower cooler that the RTX series introduced. There are no openings on the rear side of the card so it’ll be interesting to see how this design fares in a NVLink configuration. Since TITAN cards are often used in multi-GPU configurations, the cooling on the cards makes a huge difference. The only thing different here seems to be the golden tinge that the TITAN RTX has. NVIDIA is calling it, T-Rex.
