Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, Hathaway, Siti and Den Networks release new channel prices under new TRAI regulations
In tandem with TRAI’s new regulatory framework for TV channels, major DTH operators have released new channel pack pricing and also the prices of individual channels. DIsh TV and Airtel Digital TV have published their revised rate list and cable TV distributors and multi-system operators (MSO) like Hathaway Cable, Siti Cable and Den Networks have also updated their channel packs. TRAI’s new framework for channel pricing is implemented to allow the subscriber to save money on channels they don’t watch. To that effect, channel broadcasters like Star, Viacom and Zee had announced the prices of their respective channels as well as channel groups. Taking it further, Airtel Digital TV and Dish TV have announced their channel prices. Dish TV has a list showing the price of every individual channel. The list contains a large number of free-to-watch channels, and also quite a few paid ones. TRAI had mandated that the Doordarshan channels be free-to-air, but it seems Dish TV is offering even some news and regional channels free of cost as well. Notably, the sports channels seem to fetch the highest premium followed by popular soap-opera channels. Furthermore, Dish TV also has different channel packs grouping popular channels from broadcasters. Packs like Times Bouquet 2 HD, Hindi HD Premium, Happy India HD, etc. are offered where every pack is from a specific broadcaster where earlier a 'bouquet' would have channels from multiple broadcasters. Airtel Digital TV too have an updated list of channel prices. Interestingly, there are fewer free channels on offer, or Airtel might not be listing them explicitly. Nevertheless, popular channels like Colors HD, Sony HD, Star Plus HD are priced at Rs 22.42, while sports channels like Star Sports 1 HD, Sony Ten 2 HD are priced at Rs 22.42 and Rs 20.06 respectively. While there doesn’t seem to be an option to buy channels in packs, Airtel might introduce them later. Hathaway Cable also listed various channels packs like “Mana Telegu” for Rs 275 and “Namma Kannada” for Rs 272 and more. Den Networks’ monthly plans lists channels from multiple broadcasters like SunTV Network, Disney and Discovery. Packs start from as low as Rs 4 and go up to Rs 145. Siti Cable's plans range from Rs 52 to Rs 166 for various channel packs. As per TRAI’s new rules, channel providers will have to charge Rs 130 to air over 100 free-to-air channels and the channels themselves will be chosen by the subscribers. Users have time till January 31 to select the channels they choose to watch. Till then, no service provider can disconnect any signal or feed to cable operators, according to a statement by TRAI.

Now, a video has leaked and not only it reaffirms the phone's feature that were tipped at by the image shared, but also shares additional information on its hardware and other known elements. In fact, it seems that the new video was the source of the phone's leaked image that was earlier shared on Twitter. Before we delve into the details shown in the video, let’s do a quick recap of what we know so far. The Nokia 9 PureView smartphone has been repeatedly reported to feature a penta- rear camera set up. The phone's camera is expected to come equipped with an LED flash and a rumoured optic sensor for quick focusing. It may have an in-display fingerprint sensor and, just like other Nokia-branded devices, it could launch under Google’s Android One Program. The video reaffirms the above-said information and provides details on the same. Starting with the camera, the smartphone is expected to have five rear cameras with Zeiss optics. As per the video, users will be able to click photos with all the five sensors at the same time and the setup is claimed to capture up to 10 times more light in comparison with a regular phone camera sensor. Additionally, the video shows that with the penta-lens camera could also enable users to adjust depth-of-field after a shot has been taken. This feature might be accessible from within the Google Photos app and the video also shows that one will get unlimited Google Photos storage with the phone. When it comes to the display, the Nokia 9 PureView is said to sport a 5.99-inch PureDisplay display panel with 2K resolution and HDR10 compliance. It could feature an 18:9 aspect ratio with thin side bezels, thick top and bottom bezels and an in-display fingerprint sensor - a first for a Nokia-branded phone. There seems to be a glass back rear panel on the device and it's also tipped to come with Qi wireless charging support. Under the hood, the Nokia 9 PureView is expected to launch running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is no info on whether the onboard memory would be expandable or not. The smartphone is said to run Android Pie 9.0 out-of-the-box and since it is expected to be an Android One device, it will surely receive timely OS and security updates for up to two years. Previously, reports suggested that HMD Global may launch Nokia 9 PureView at CES or MWC but mysmartprice (via Nokia Anew) claims that the device is expected to be unveiled officially by the end of January 2019. As the Consumer Electronic Show 2019 commences from January 8 and Mobile World Congress kicks off from February 25 this year. In case the device launches after CES and before MWC, it may go on sale in several markets before the 2019 flagship Android smartphones start launching. Google reportedly testing group calling, low light mode on Duo app
Highlights: Google is reportedly testing two new features on its video calling app Duo Some users might get the group calling and low light mode features The features are said to be enabled on the server side and could be region-limited Google is reportedly testing night mode and group calling features on its Duo app. As per an anonymous tip, Android Police reports that the company is testing both the new features on its app. Hints about the new features were said to be previously spotted on app teardowns last year. While Apple already has FaceTime that supports group calling with up to 32 users at once, it is reported that Google is currently enabling up to seven people to connect at once using the feature. As for the low light/dark mode, it seems to be pretty straightforward. Users might receive a pop-up when using the Duo app in a dimly lit environment, asking them if they would like to enable low light mode and if enabled, it "automatically adjusts your video in dark environments so others can see you better." Android Police says that the same option will be also available in the app’s settings. Coming to the video calling feature on Duo, users will reportedly need to create a group first with every contact they want to have a video call with and then proceed to call everyone at the same time. There doesn’t seem to be any other way to add a new person in an ongoing video call yet but the option might be made available later. Additionally, to view the list of group members, one will supposedly need to tap on the group name at the bottom right corner of the call window. The app is said to enable users to create multiple groups that might show up in the user’s contact list at the top for easier access. Android Police’s source, and one of their contacts, supposedly had the new features enabled. It seems that the options are being enabled via a server-side update and those who don’t have them weren't able to participate in group calls. OnePlus 5, 5T to receive patched-up OxygenOS 901, will skip OxygenOS 900
We must admit, we were quite exasperated to see our Chrome’s 'Articles for you' section fill up with news stories about the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T receiving the new Android 9 Pie update because every time we went back to the System Updates section on our OnePlus 5 and hit Check for Updates, our phone reported it was very much up to date, thank you very much. Ever since the first whiff of the Pie for the OnePlus 5 came out seven days ago we’ve been visiting the System Updates section hourly, like a student waiting for their board exam results to come out. Having run all out of patience by Monday afternoon (December 31), we wrote to OnePlus on Twitter. The Chinese company’s reply, though prompt, left us all the more disappointed. The reply we received read, "We are sorry to inform you that, due to some issues in this software build, we will not roll out 9.0.0 globally for OnePlus 5 & OnePlus 5T. We already prepared next build 9.0.1 (with 9.0.0 issue fix) which we planning to partial roll out around 01/01/2019, then we will roll out 9.0.1 globally within two or three days later. We request you to stay tuned for next update." Here we are sitting in the office two days after the Twitter exchange with OnePlus, still hitting Check for Updates over our morning coffees but seeing absolutely no signs of the new patched-up update. The sad thing is that OnePlus was apparently already doing a lot to ensure its users got their pie around Christmastime. “Our software team worked overtime, staying up late tonight, they just wanted to send this Christmas gift to our community, so do let them know if you like it. Enjoy and wish everyone a wonderful holiday!” wrote Community Manager David Y on the OnePlus Forum. Despite the last-minute hiccups, we expect to see the OxygenOS 9.0.1 update roll out to our OnePlus 5 sometime in the next two or three days. The new Android 9 Pie update promises a new look, Gaming Mode 3.0, a redesigned DND (Do Not Disturb) mode, the new navigation features (for OnePlus 5T only), and an integrated Google Lens mode in the default camera app, among other additions. Until then, keep revisiting the System Updates section with crossed fingers.
