Sony Xperia XZ4 video renders, screen protector, and Antutu benchmarks leaked online

Highlights: Sony Xperia ZX4 alleged renders reveal the phone’s design The device could feature a 6.5-inch OLED display The company is also hosting an event on January 7 where it could announce a bunch of new handsets Sony is rumoured to be working on its upcoming Xperia XZ4 smartphone and new rumours have started pouring in. A render video of the phone has surfaced online, along with some leaked images of its screen protector, and finally, its Antutu score. In a separate development, the company has announced that it will be hosting its press event on January 7, a day ahead of the commencement of Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2019. Sony might launch the Xperia XZ4 at the upcoming trade fair, along with the Xperia XA3, Xperia XA3 Ultra, and the Xperia L3.  Let’s start off with the Sony Xperia XZ4’s most notable leak, its render video. As per @OnLeaks, with MySmartPrice, the phone could come equipped with a large 6.5-inch OLED display and measure 6.5 x 2.8 x 0.3 inch. Not buying into the current trend of waterdrop or punch-hole display design, the company might incorporate a simple flat display, instead of a curved screen, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. As mentioned above, an alleged image of the device’s screen protector was also posted on Weibo and it also hints at a tall screen with slimmed down bezels and a chin. The screen protector features cut-outs for a single camera, an LED flash and an earpiece. The phone might be launched running on the Snapdragon 855 SoC, with 6GB and 8GB RAM options, and it could be announced with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage models. Here’s where the Antutu report might interest some but we suggest that you take it with a pinch of salt because it’s not from a very reliable source. An unofficial handset with the model number I8134 is said to have popped up on the benchmarking website that scored 395721 and it is speculated to be a Sony device, maybe the Xperia XZ4. This score is slightly higher than what we have previously encountered and beats the scores of the Apple A12 Bionic (~350K) and the Huawei Kirin 980 (~270K).  Related Read: Alleged Samsung Galaxy S10+ scores 325,076 points on AnTuTu Coming to the optics, the Sony Xperia XZ4 is suspected to feature a triple-camera setup on the back. While there’s no information regarding its camera specifications, the report suggests that out of the three, one could be a standard camera while the other two might feature a wide-angle lens and another could be used to provide up to 3x optical zoom. The camera on the phone could also support OIS, making it a first for any Sony smartphone. On the front, the handset could sport a single 13MP camera. The smartphone might be backed by a 3,900mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 4 and the company might not integrate the fingerprint sensor into its power button. It is also expected to launch running the latest Android 9 Pie OS.  Sony’s announcement of its event that will be hosted a day ahead of CES 2019. The company is expected to launch the Xperia XZ4, the Xperia XA3, the Xperia XA3 Ultra, and the Xperia L3 at the event. While there’s no confirmation of the same, the company might follow its trend of announcing mid-range and entry-level phones at the event as it revealed the Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia L2 last year at CES 2018.  Coming to the rumoured specifications of the Sony Xperia XA3 and Xperia XA3 Ultra, the two phones are expected to be the company’s new mid-range phones. The Xperia XA3 could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 platform and could be announced with 6GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It could feature a 5.9-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 1080x2160p resolution. On the other hand, there’s not much known about the Sony Xperia XA3 Ultra, except that it could be equipped with a 6.5-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio 1080x2160 pixels. The two phones are expected to be announced running Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box and feature a dual camera setup and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.  Related Read: Sony Xperia XA3 will reportedly be priced much higher than its predecessor The Sony Xperia L3 was recently spotted on FCC’s website. The phone will reportedly come with a 5.7-inch HD+ screen with an 18:9 display aspect ratio. It might be launched running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and could sport a dual camera setup on the back with a 13MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. It might also feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and be backed by a 3,400mAh battery.

Google working to bring native dark mode on Windows 10

Highlights: Google working on native dark mode in Chrome for Windows 10 The company will reportedly bring dark mode to MacOS Mojave Google Chrome comes with a dark theme in Incognito mode   Google Chrome on Windows 10 doesn’t have a native dark mode even though the platform already supports dark mode for apps like Microsoft Edge and Firefox. This may change soon because one of the engineers at Google has posted a message on Reddit saying that the company is working on the mode. The engineer says that till the company is developing the mode, it is advised to use the dark theme for Google’s web browser. The development comes almost a month after it was reported that Google is also working to bring the dark mode to MacOS Mojave. According to Peter Kasting (via Techdows), “For desktop, native dark mode support is in progress, in the meantime, we generally suggest people use the dark theme.” Google Chrome comes with a default light theme and supports a dark theme in Incognito mode. Dark theme has been the talk of the town lately. Established web browsers like Firefox and the recently launched Xiaomi Mint lightweight browser are now focussing on bringing the dark mode to their UI. It's the same case with other apps too. For example, Google’s own YouTube now supports dark mode and WhatsApp too could soon feature it. Windows 10 already supports dark mode and Apple launched the new MacOS Mojave with the Dark Mode as its USP. Last year at Android Dev Summit 2018, Google highlighted the importance of dark mode and dark themes on Android. The company shared some data on the subject showcasing the difference between the power drawn from battery while using light and dark modes respectively. In Android Pie, there is an option to select a Dark theme that turns the quick settings and the Google Feed dark, but it is not a system-wide implementation.   Related Read: Google Chrome 71 gets abusive ad blocking update Google Chrome for Android may soon get an Explore feature

Nokia 9 PureView successor may launch in August 2019 running on Snapdragon 855 with 5G support

Key highlights Nokia 9 PureView successor is tipped to feature Snapdragon 855 SoC with 5G support It might sport a 2K “true edge-to-edge display with a camera hole.” The phone is expected to launch in August 2019 (tentative) HMD Global may not have unveiled the Nokia 9 PureView yet, but it looks like the phone’s successor has already been leaked. First spotted by Nokia Power User, @LeaksNokia has tweeted that the successor to Nokia’s upcoming flagship smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and offer support for 5G. It is noted that the company may launch the device in August, 2019. Other features mentioned in the post include a 2K “true edge-to-edge display with a camera hole.” The ‘camera hole’ is most likely referring to the new trend of ‘punch-hole’ front cameras offered in devices like the Honor View 20. The tweet also notes that the device will still offer the same penta-camera setup that the Nokia 9 PureView is tipped to offer. However, the successor is said to offer a larger sensor with “better imaging quality.” However, like most leaks, it’s best to take this one with a pinch of salt.  HMD Global is expected to launch its new flagship smartphone later this month and the launch of a successor within a few months might definitely irk those who purchased the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone. To recall, the Nokia 9 PureView is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and offer 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone is expected to offer Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box and will most likely be a part of Google’s Android One program. As such, it should get timely updates for at least two years.  Earlier today, a video said to be the promo video for the phone was leaked. The video again tipped at the penta-camera setup the phone is expected to come with. Further, the handset is said to feature a 5.99-inch 2K display with an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is also expected to offer support for Qi wireless charging.  Recommended read Nokia 8.1 first impressions Nokia 7.1 review   Nokia 9 PureView successor with Snapdragon 855 planned tentatively in August 2019. 5G support, Penta-Lens camera, 2K display true edge-to-edge display with camera hole. @Nokiapoweruser #Nokia #Nokia9PureView — Nokia_Leaks (@LeaksNokia) January 2, 2019
