Honor 10i with 6GB RAM appears on TENAA

Highlights: Honor 10i appears on TENAA. The listing shows phone with model numbers HRY-TL00T and HRY-AL00Ta. It could be offered in 4GB and 6GB variants.   Honor 10i has appeared on TENAA with the hardware specifications of the phone. The Honor 10i could be a mid-range offering from Huawei and is reported to come with triple cameras on the back and a 32MP shooter on the front. The device is rumoured to be successor to the Honor 9i, which was launched as the Honor 9N in India last year. According to the TENAA listing, the phone appears with the model numbers HRY-TL00T and HRY-AL00Ta. The difference between these devices could be the RAM. While the HRY-TL00T variant is listed with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the HRY-AL00Ta has more memory as well as storage options, including 4GB and 6GB RAM and 64GB and 128GB local storage. A previous report showed the phone with 4GB of RAM. The leaked images of the phone suggest a glass sandwich design similar to the Honor 10 Lite. The phones is expected to come with Android Pie-based EMUI out-of-the-box. The price in Russia is expected to be around $300 (Rs 20,700). Based on the images leaked by a Russian website hi-tech.ru, the Honor 10i is expected to sport a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch. Under the hood, the phone could have the HiSilicon Kirin 710 mobile platform along with an option to choose from 4GB and 6GB of RAM, and 64GB and 128GB storage. The report mentioned that the device will support NFC and fast charging, however, it did not mention the battery capacity. The images leaked showed a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. When it comes to imaging, the phone is expected to sport a triple camera system on the back with a 24MP primary shooter, an 8MP camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Taking into account the launches in the recent months, it is likely that the 8MP sensor comes with a wide-angle lens. Reportedly, the notch on the device will house a 32MP shooter. DTH users will be moved to Best Fit Plan as TV channel selection deadline by TRAI has passed

Highlights: The TRAI deadline for selection of TV channels is now over.  Users who have not selected the channels they want to watch will be moved to a best fit plan. This plan will be curated by the user’s DTH/cable provider. TRAI had extended the channel selection deadline to March 31 and now, users who have yet to opt for their choice of channels will be migrated to a best-fit plan. This plan is supposed to be created by DTH/cable providers for their users and will be based on the previous plan they opted for. Additionally, the best fit plan will be based on a viewer’s TV watching pattern and the selected language. In a press release, TRAI had announced that the new plan is supposed to be a “blended combination of various Genres,” and should not cost more than the current or previous plan opted by a user.  Some cable/DTH users might have noticed that they have already been migrated to another plan. Those who have not selected their preferred channels until now can choose them now to remove the best fit plan and select a new curated plan. To preview how much their selected channels will cost, one can use TRAI’s online channel selector web app. There is also an option to ‘optimise’ one’s channel selection to reduce the overall cost. Users will need to select channels a-la-carte and can also select from bouquets made by network broadcasters.  Under TRAI’s new rule for channel broadcasters, pricing of every individual channel has been declared and it can’t exceed Rs 19 (excluding taxes). There is now a Network Capacity Fee (NCF) of Rs 130 + taxes, total not exceeding Rs 154, that features 100 TV channels. Out of these 100 channels, 25 are mandatory free DD channels. One can add 75 more channels that are either free or paid before needing to pay an additional Rs Rs 20 for adding network capacity for 25 more channels. Reportedly, some DTH providers have waived off or lowered the NCF for their users to get ahead of the competition.  Related Reads: Will new DTH Channel rules make TV watching cheaper or more expensive? Apple iPhone 7 is now being assembled by Wistron in India

Highlights: Apple starts assembling iPhone 7 in India. Wistron started assembling the phone at its Bengaluru facility. A report has said that Foxconn is starting the trial production of the latest iPhones in Chennai. After several speculative reports over the last three months claimed that Apple would start manufacturing more iPhones in India, the Cupertino-based giant has now officially announced that it has started assembling the iPhone 7 in the country. The company said that Taiwan-based Wistron, which has its facility in Bengaluru, will now assemble the iPhone 7 alongside the iPhone 6s. “We are proud to be producing iPhone 7 in Bengaluru for our local customers furthering our long-term commitment in India,” the company said in a statement. Apple says that the move to expand its operations to start assembling more iPhones in India is a part of its long-term commitment to India. Currently, the 32GB variant of the iPhone 7 costs Rs 39,900 and the 128GB is priced at Rs 49,900. A previous report also said that a new Wistron facility will be deputed to manufacture the iPhone 8 in India. Additionally, there are reports which note that a proposal for a new Foxconn manufacturing unit was submitted to the Government on December 31, and this facility could be commissioned to assemble the complete iPhone line-up in India, right upto the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook dismissed the idea of cheap iPhones for India saying that the company wants cut in duties on the products that are sold in the country. The assembly of iPhones in India should reduce the phones’ prices significantly since Apple will be able to do away with the import duties it has to pay currently. “For us, we’re about making the best product that enriches people’s lives. We’re not about making the cheapest. We want to make a great value but that’s not necessarily the cheapest. What we’ve seen is that there’s enough people in every country in the world that we play in that we can have a really good business by selling the best phones,” the executive said. Meanwhile, Foxconn, the other iPhone manufacturer is reportedly starting the trial production of the latest iPhones in India. Citing industry sources, Bloomberg reported that the trial run of the iPhone X range of devices will come before Foxconn starts full-scale assembly at its factory in Chennai. The report says that Indians purchased more than 140 million smartphones last year, with 1.7 million sold by Apple. “Seen from Cupertino the India market looks minuscule so Apple’s strategy has been myopic. They haven’t capitalized on the ground potential - India will cross half-billion smartphone users this year,” Neil Shah, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, was quoted as saying. In January-February 2019, Apple shipped about 150,000 devices in India and is likely to see about a 50 percent drop in the March quarter from the year earlier, according to Shah. Highlights Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless priced at Rs 24,990 4-hour battery life with 12 additional hours thanks to the case Support Apple's Siri and Google Assistant   Sennheiser’s Momentum portfolio has added the Momentum True Wireless earbuds, priced at Rs. 24,990. This is the first pair of truly wireless earbuds from Sennheiser and marks the German audio manufacturer’s foray into the truly wireless space. "The Momentum True Wireless truly redefines the audio benchmark and raises the bar for wearable sound," said Kapil Gulati, Director, Consumer Segment, Sennheiser India.  The truly wireless earbuds have 4 hour battery life, which can be extended thanks to the integrated battery in the carrying case. The earbuds also feature 2 microphones for better noise cancellation and beamforming, which together allow the Momentum True Wireless to offer “Transparent Hearing.” This feature essentially allows ambient sound to come in through one of the earpieces, regardless of whether music is playing or not. We’ve seen Sony implement the same functionality in their flagship 1000X series of headphones. The Momentum True Wireless earbuds also offer voice control of IoT devices thanks to Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant integration. While the earbuds naturally support AAC codec, there is also support for Qualcomm’s AptX as well. Best of all, the earbuds are splash resistant and the case comes wrapped in premium cloth. Lastly, Sennheiser has also developed a dedicated app for the earbuds. The app allows for tweaking the sound signature of the earbuds by means of the equalizer settings, along with giving options for smart pause, auto-accepting calls and even configuring voice assistant access. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless is priced at Rs 24,990, and is the more expensive option in the truly wireless earbuds space. Bose has its SoundSport Free Wireless priced at Rs 18,990 and Jabra has the Jabra Elite 65t priced at Rs 13,499. Samsung too has its Galaxy Buds, a truly wireless pair of earbuds that costs Rs 9,990. The truly wireless earbud space is teaming with options across multiple price segments, which is great for users. Related Reads: Jabra Elite Active 65t Review
