Jio GigaFiber reportedly offering less powerful router, voice benefits at reduced price of Rs 2,500
It has been a while since we heard about what’s happening with the Jio GigaFiber service. The company announced it during its 41st AGM event and while the registrations for it started in August last year, the roll-out has been quite slow. However, it seems like the company is now gearing up for a broader roll-out of the service as it is reportedly offering a less expensive, and apparently less powerful, version of its optical network terminal (ONT) device. As per a report by a Twitter user, Jio has lowered the security deposit of its GigaFiber service to Rs 2,500, down from Rs 4,500 and is offering a less powerful internet router.
As per the Twitter user Preshit Deorukhkar, the Jio GigaFiber router that comes with Rs 2,500 deposit is a single band router. It is said to support only the 2.4GHz b/g/n Wi-Fi, which means there’s no high-speed 5GHz band support. Additionally, the speed is capped to about 50Mbps but the company is also apparently bundling voice services with the connection. The router reportedly features three RJ45 ports, one RJ11 and one USB2.0 on the back, however, the ethernet ports are said to be 10/100 and not Gigabit. One might also be able to install the JioVoice app on their smartphone to extend the voice service. The new service is expected to be made available wider in the coming weeks.
PSA: In order to reduce the entry barrier of ₹4500 for Jio GigaFiber connections, the company is now offering a smaller, more limited version of their router for ₹2500 instead. Jio has also been bundling Voice services with it & a wider rollout will happen in the coming weeks.
— Preshit Deorukhkar (@preshit) June 6, 2019The news comes soon after a report that the company is testing a “Triple Play” plan. Jio is said to be testing a new plan under which users will be offered internet, voice calls, Jio TV subscription and access to Jio apps all with a single plan. If the company is indeed offering voice benefits with new GigaFiber connection, as the new report suggests, then there is a possibility that Jio TV plans might also be soon introduced alongside broadband services.

Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram wont come pre-installed on future Huawei phones owing to US ban: report
In the latest blow to Huawei, Facebook will no longer allow pre-installation of its app on any future phones made by the Chinese company. Citing Facebook, Reuters reported that customers who already own Huawei phones will still be able to use its apps and receive updates. But the phones that are yet to leave the manufacturing facility will no longer be able to have Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps pre-installed.
This is the latest development in the long list of problems that shrouds the Chinese tech giant as it struggles to keep its business running at the same pace it achieved in the last year. Huawei is currently facing a ban due to a US executive order which restricted all the US-based companies to do business with Huawei. Google, Microsoft and a few other top Silicon Valley giants have already cut ties with the company. Facebook pulling off the business deal from Huawei is likely a repercussion of the ban.
Earlier this week, a media report said that Huawei has asked Foxconn to stop “several” lines of production. It is being speculated that Huawei could step into a halt in its ambition to become the world’s largest smartphone brand. It has already surpassed Apple to become the second top smartphone vendor in terms of shipments. It is only behind Samsung and at a time, analysts predicted that Huawei could remain ahead of Apple at the end of 2019.
While talking to the Chinese media earlier this year, Ren Zhengfie, Founder and CEO of Huawei Technologies, said that the company’s growth will slow down, though not by as much as everyone imagines. “In the first quarter of this year, our revenue grew 39 percent over the same period last year. This rate decreased to 25 percent in April, and may continue decreasing towards the end of this year. But the US ban will not lead to negative growth or harm the development of our industry,” he stated.

HTC may have wrapped up its smartphone business from several parts of the world but it is still functional in China. The company has sent out invites for an event in China and is likely to launch a mid-range phone. Rumoured to be called as HTC U19e, the phone is speculated to ship with a 6-inch display that may boast an 18:9 aspect ratio and large bezels. None of the information is confirmed till now.
Earlier this year, a mid-range HTC smartphone was spotted on AnTuTu (169,617 points) and Geekbench websites. The device appeared with the 2Q7A100 model number and sported a Snapdragon 710 mobile platform paired with 6GB of RAM. The phone was seen running Android 9 Pie, scoring a Compute Benchmark score of 6979 on Geekbench. Compute Benchmark measures the performance of the CPU at performing common compute tasks like image processing.

Under the hood, it is expected to feature a 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with Kryo 360 CPU and Adreno 616 GPU. Along with the 6GB RAM version spotted on Geekbench, the phone is rumoured to come with 128GB of local storage. A media report claims that the phone will be available in Purple and Green color options.
The Taiwanese company launched the HTC Desire 12s on its home soil in December. It sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 720x1440 pixels resolution. The smartphone is powered by a 64-bit Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core SoC, along with 3GB/4GB RAM options. When it comes to optics, there is a 13MP rear sensor with PDAF and LED flash. On the front is a 13MP sensor. The HTC Desire 12s packs a 3,075mAh battery. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back panel which sports a two-tone, ribbed finish for better grip.

Siri will soon support audio streaming from third-party apps like Spotify and Amazon Music
Apple made a bunch of announcements during its World Wide Developers Conference 2019 event. It introduced the new iOS 13 operating system for iPhones and introduced iPadOS for iPads. Additionally, multiple new developer features were announced and one of them was about SiriKit supporting third-party audio apps. Apple will now enable SiriKit framework to support third-party audio apps, including support for music, podcasts and audiobooks. This means one would be able to ask Siri to play music via Spotify, Gaana, or other services. Apple, in a blog post, says, "SiriKit adds support for third-party audio apps, including music, podcasts, and audiobooks, so developers can now integrate Siri directly into their iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS apps, giving users the ability to control their audio with a simple voice command."
Siri has also received some additional features and the digital assistant’s dictation is said to get better with iOS 13. This would be thanks to Neural TTS, which Apple claims would also impart a more natural sounding voice to the digital assistant. The Siri Shortcuts app will now be built in and users will be able to create Multistep shortcuts with suggested automations that will be based on a user’s habits. Incoming messages will be read out loud by Siri when one is using AirPods. Siri now also has a new Indian English voice and Apple is adding Live radio to iOS, which is said to feature over 100,000 radio stations from around the world. Siri will be able to tune into a radio station as well.
Alongside Siri, numerous other new features will be made available with iOS 13. Dark Mode will finally be implemented system-wide with iOS 13 and all of Apple’s first-party apps will sport a darker hue. Additionally, there will be a new swiping feature integrated with the Apple keyboard, there will be performance improvements, more privacy-centric options and other new features. You can more about the top 10 iOS13 features here.
