Marvel Avengers coming to Google Stadia, along with publisher-specific subscriptions

Google may have been done with their official announcements around Google Stadia, but that doesn’t mean the company has stopped sharing more tid-bits of information. It is E3 afterall and Stadia boss Phil Harrison has let out some rather interesting details of the upcoming service. We already know that Stadia will be a subscription-based service, with multiple tiers.

In an interview during E3, Phil Harrison shared that in conjunction with the Stadia Pro subscription, the service will also offer publisher-specific subscriptions. These subscriptions, Harrison said, will exist outside and above the Stadia Pro subscription, meaning that these will be an additional cost.

“You’ll also see in due course, in relatively short order from now, you’ll see publishers starting to think about their own subscriptions,” said Harrison. “We support that on our platform, and we’ll see some announcements in due course around that,” said Harrison.

In addition to revealing more subscriptions, we also learned at E3 that Marvel’s Avengers, one of the most anticipated games at E3, will also be coming to Stadia. The game’s details are yet to be revealed, but thanks to the hoardings at E3, we know that the game will be coming to Google’s game streaming service in addition to the PC, Xbox and PlayStation. A result of the partnership between Marvel and Square Enix, the game is apparently set in an era where the world has shunned its superheroes. Square Enix has shared that the game will include all the iconic elements of the Marvel universe that the fans have come to love over the last decade of the franchise.

As of now, there is no release date for Marvel Avengers, but we do expect more details during Square Enix’s E3 press conference.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 to officially launch on August 10

It’s no more a secret that Samsung is working on the Galaxy Note 10. Hi-res renders have leaked out the design that Samsung is going to introduce. And this time around, the Galaxy Note 10 will be joined by another more powerful Galaxy Note 10 Pro. While all this was pretty much known for a while, a new report from South Korea claims Samsung will officially announce the Galaxy Note10 on August 10 this year.

The Galaxy Note 9 last year was launched on August 9 and the company was largely expected to launch the successor on the same month. The report now claims the Galaxy Note 10 will come a day after, on August 10.

Courtesy: Onleaks

We recently saw the renders of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10 Pro. Based on them, it’s clear that the two variants will sport a similar design, except for a few changes. For one, the Pro variant will come with a much larger screen and an extra camera on the back. It’s also likely to come with 5G support.

The renders also show the Galaxy Note 10 will not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack or the much-hated Bixby button. So that’s a win and a loss for users. Other than that, the front camera is now drilled into the center of the screen instead of the top corner like in the Galaxy S10 series. The Pro variant seems to sport really minimal bezels while the regular variant has a visible forehead.

Based on past history, the Galaxy Note 10 could come with the Exynos 9820 in India while in the US the same will come with the Snapdragon 855. There could be up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB UFS 3.0 onboard storage along with a triple camera that will likely include a wide-angle and a telephoto camera. The fourth camera on the Galaxy Note 10 Pro could be a ToF sensor, the same that’s there on the Galaxy S10 5G. By the looks of it, the Galaxy Note 10 Pro is shaping up to be a lot like the Galaxy S10 5G. It will be interesting to see how Samsung manages to differentiate between the the two series, now that the specs and features have started to overlap each other.

Apex Legends new character Wattson can set up perimeter defence, Interception Pylon and more

EA made a bunch of announcements at its event ahead of E3 2019. As expected, the company revealed some new information about its online battle royale title Apex Legends and the key highlight was the announcement of a new in-game character called Wattson. Wattson is the new playable in-game character and her main characteristics are perimeter defence and flank protection. Unlike most other characters that enable rushing in and taking out opponents, Wattson will enable players to think of playing the game in strategic ways. The character also gets a deeper backstory as Wattson’s father was the inventor of the Apex Legends arena.

As per the game developers, Wattson can setup perimeter security with up to 12 nodes, and in any configuration. Enemies passing through the perimeter will lose health and slow down but the electrical field switches off for your teammates. The character’s ultimate ability is called Interception Pylon that places an electrified pylon that intercepts and destroys incoming ordinance and repairs damaged shields for your teammates. The passive ability called Spark of Genius enables players to fully recharge Wattson’s Ultimate Ability by using Ultimate Accelerants. Additionally, standing near interception pylons will boost the character’s Tactical Ability recharge.

In addition to announcing a new character, the game will soon move on to Season 2 called Battle Charge. Wattson, a new L-Star weapon and new features will be made available with the new season. There will also be a limited time  event called “the Legendary Hunt” that will be playable for a couple of weeks. It will enable players to gain rare, epic, and legendary skins, limited-edition legendary skins and more. Game developers are also introducing Ranked Mode. “You will progress through six tiers, if you’re good enough,” Drew McCoy, Apex Legends director said during a stage presentation. “It goes from Bronze all the way up to Apex Predator. And it’s using special matchmaking tiers.” Matchmaking times could be a bit higher for upper tier players.

Xbox Scarlett Vs PlayStation 5: Heres how the two upcoming consoles stack up

Microsoft took the stage at E3 2019 and shed a little light on the upcoming next-generation console. No name for the console is known but Microsoft confirmed the codename, Scarlett. Microsoft also confirmed that the console will ship in 2020 and Halo Infinite will be a launch title for the console. Sony is absent from E3 this year, but the company has officially spoken about the specs powering the PS5. So let’s break down the similarities and differences between the two consoles.

AMD CPU and GPU

Both the PS5 and upcoming Xbox will be powered by a Ryzen Zen 2 CPU and a Navi GPU, this has officially been confirmed by the two companies. Specifics such as clock speeds, GPU memory and shared memory are not yet known. However, Microsoft did say that the new console is 4 times more powerful than the Xbox One X. I guess we will know more specifics about the PS5 and next Xbox later in the year. Remember, when Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One X at E3 two years ago in a similar fashion. They didn’t highlight the specs. Rather, to highlight the specs and power of the Xbox One X, they invited Digital Foundry exclusively to check out the console and tell the world about its capabilities. Maybe we can expect something similar from Microsoft this year. Sony, on the other hand, is expected to showcase more details about the PS5 at PSX in December 2019.

GDDR6 Memory

The memory of the PS5 isn’t known but Microsoft announced that the next-gen Xbox will come with GDDR 6 Memory. The memory on the PS5 isn’t announced but we do expect it to be in the same ballpark as the upcoming Xbox.

SSD

When Sony conducted its exclusive interview with Wired for the specs of the PS5, the company said that the SSD is a key component to help games load faster. To give you a real-world example, in some games you will ride an elevator for a few minutes or your character will walk for a bit before entering the next area. These are cover-ups to let the game load the next area. These things will be eliminated with the use of an SSD in the next console generation. Both the consoles have confirmed to use an SSD and Microsoft has said that Scarlett will use the SSD as shared memory. So it will be interesting to see the implementation. It will also be interesting to see how much storage is provided and whether we get a dedicated SSD for the games or we get a hybrid drive giving users more storage and the SSD portion is used for the game being played. It will also be interesting to see how external storage is supported on both the upcoming consoles. It took the PS4 and Xbox One a while to implement external storage support and this is one feature we hope is there in the new consoles from the get-go.

Ray Tracing

Another feature that both console makers highlighted was Ray Tracing. Both the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will come with support for Ray Tracing. To what degree it is implemented and how it will work is something only time will tell.

Backwards compatibility

Microsoft proudly announced that out of the box, the Xbox Scarlett system will be backwards compatible with games from the original Xbox, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One, giving users a large library of games out of the box. Sony, on the other hand, has only confirmed backwards compatibility with the PS4. It will be interesting to see if Sony can implement backwards compatibility with thee PS3, 2 and one. A patent was filed by Sony giving the PS5 some emulation capabilities hinting at backwards compatibility with the PS3, 2 and one but it isn’t confirmed yet.

Release date and price

We know that both the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will launch in 2020. There is no information on price or exact launch date yet. However, Microsoft has confirmed a holiday 2020 launch and we think the PS5 will hit store shelves around the same time.

You can watch Microsoft's E3 2019 briefing here.
