Sony HT-Z9F Dolby Atmos Soundbar With Built-in Chromecast Launched in India, Priced at Rs 59,990

Sony has launched a new soundbar in India. The device bears the model number HT-Z9F and is priced at Rs 59,990. For the price, you get the soundbar along with a subwoofer and remote control. The soundbar also supports rear surround speakers (sold separately) bearing the model number SA-Z9R priced at Rs 9,990. Those who pre-order the soundbar between July 1 and 8 will get the surround speakers at no extra cost. The soundbar supports audio formats like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X along with Sony’s own audio technologies including Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force Pro Front Surround Technology. Without the surround speakers, the soundbar has an output of 400W and with the surround speakers, it has an output of 500W.

Speaking of connectivity options, the soundbar supports USB, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI (eARC), 2 HDMI in (pass through), along with optical-in. The soundbar also supports WiFi and works with Alexa and Google Assistant speakers. The speaker itself weighs 3.1kg whereas the subwoofer weighs 8.1kg. The surround speakers weigh 1kg each. The HT-Z9F can also connect online and stream music using built-in Chromecast.

Unlike the HT-ST5000 soundbar from Sony, which has upward firing speakers, the HT-Z9F uses Sony’s vertical surround engine to simulate a Dolby Atmos experience. How well this works is something we will comment on when we review the speaker. The remote control of the speaker has a 'Vertica S' button to simulate the Dolby Atmos experience from the speaker.

A good thing to note is that the speaker supports eARC, a new standard in audio technology. Do note that to make the most of eARC, your TV needs to support the same.

The Sony HT-Z9F and SA-Z9R will be available across all Sony Centers, major electronic stores, and e-commerce portals in India. If you are looking to pick up the speaker then know that by pre-booking HT-Z9F from July 1 until 8, 2019, the rear surround speaker SA-Z9R will be available at no additional cost. The soundbar can be booked through any of the sales channels - Sony brand shops, major electronic stores, and e-commerce websites.

Google is testing Instagram, Snapchat-like AR effects in Messages app: Report

Google has been working to improve the overall Messages experience, and as a part of this drive, it is testing AR stickers in the app. Folks at XDADevelopers were able to use these effects, which look a lot like the ones that we have already seen on social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. It should be noted that these effects are only available in the Messages app. Users won’t be able to use them in the Camera app.

According to the publication, there are a total of five effects: plane, balloons, fireworks, confetti, and an angel. These AR effects are present in the camera viewfinder, so when a users taps to send an image, he/she can select the desired effect from the ‘Effect’ tab. Reportedly, these will be through MMS, SMS, or RCS. The publication also claims that the feature is able to recognise a user’s face and put stickers are in the frame with “great accuracy.” You can watch all the five effects in the video below.

The news comes after Google announced that it would replace the ageing SMS app with Rich Communication Services, popularly known as RCS. This wasn’t possible till now because Google had left it up to the telecom carriers to bring support for the service globally. But that didn't really work out, and the company has apparently decided to take over the RCS rollout instead of depending on carriers. RCS offers a multitude of features like high-quality attachments, read receipts, typing indicators and more.

At MWC 2019, Google announced that it would integrate its smart assistant into Messages. Once rolled out, users will be able to see the Assistant button when using the Messages app. If you tap on the button, you can ask it a question, and the answer will be populated in the text field. Initially, the feature will be limited to the English language. Google also clarified that the company would not read its users’ texts and the only information that’s sent to the company’s servers is the question you ask Google Assistant within the app.

PUBG Mobile India Tour registrations open, offers total cash pool of Rs 15 Crore

There’s yet another PUBG Mobile tournament being hosted in India. This time around, Oppo and Tencent have partnered to host it. Called the PUBG Mobile India Tour (PMIT), registrations for the event start today (July 1). It offers a total cash pool of Rs 1.5 Crore. The winning team stands to win Rs 50 lakh, while second and third placed teams stand to win Rs 20 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively. In fact, it is noted that all teams who make it to the Grand Final will be awarded cash prizes.

The PUBG Mobile India Tour is a four-month long event that features a combination of online events with regional finals held in four cities in india. These four cities are Jaipur, Guwahati, Pune and Vizag. The Grand Final will be held in Kolkata on October 2019.

The tournament is open to all Indian residents who have a PUBG Mobile account that is above Tier Platinum 5, or level 20. Users from all over the country can choose one of the aforementioned four cities when registering. Players who meet these criteria can register here.

It is noted that while there is no restriction on the number of players registering in a group, the number of registrations by a participant is limited to one. Finally, the squad members in a team can be from any city and are not restricted to any geographical region. Further, the matches will be exclusive to the squad-only format and played across all four maps. Further, the rounds will be a mix of First-Person and Third-person perspectives.

Based on the points secured by the registered squads during the ‘In-game' qualifier phase, the top 500 teams from each group will be selected for the ‘Online Playoffs’. The squads will then be further filtered to 20 of the best teams across the groups, which will then compete for a chance to make it to the group finals. Then, the top four teams from each group will get a direct promotion to the Grand Final. Meanwhile, the top 16 teams from each group final (64 teams in total) that were eliminated during the online playoffs will get a chance to enter the Grand Finale via the ‘Wild Card’ rounds. There will be a total of four teams that will be entered into the Grand Final via the wild card route.

Besides the prize money mentioned above, players who qualify for the Group and Grand Finale will receive a total of Rs 25 lakh in logistical support. Group Finalists will also receive PUBG Goodies worth Rs 10 lakh. Further, there will be a vote by the public on the most popular teams, the winner of which will receive Rs 10 lakh. Google Fast Share is Android Beams replacement and AirDrops competitor: Report

Google has already confirmed that the Android Q will not have Android Beam, the NFC-based file sharing method that was introduced in Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich. The company now appears to be working on a new way to share files between Android devices and Chromebooks. Reportedly called “FastShare,” the feature is likely to be introduced in Android Q instead of Android Beam, and is said to work like Apple’s AirDrop feature on iOS and Mac.

Tech news publication 9to5google first spotted the feature and said that Fast Share on Android could be used to share images and other files on an Android phone “to nearby devices without internet.” It says that the feature is available from the system share sheet and is currently using a blue diamond-shaped Nearby icon. To set up the process, users will be required to enter a “Device name” and tap “Turn on.” After selecting the recipient from the list of “nearby devices,” you will be notified about the files being shared and shown a progress indicator.

Google FileShare

If you are a receiver, you will get a notification to “Accept” or “Decline” after the sender starts to share files with you. You will also be able to see details like “Device name” and “connection ID” of the sender. You can open the file once the transfer is complete. The phone will reportedly use Bluetooth for the initial handshake and then transfer files over a direct Wi-Fi connection. FastShare will also let users give “Preferred Visibility” to people who are frequent senders.

Google currently has the Google Files app that people can use to clean loads of junk from their phones as well as share files when there is no internet connection. Last year, the company introduced the “share” option and improved the connection protocol, claiming that it would take an average of five seconds for connecting two devices. Google also added some security measures for a secure connection establishment and encrypted transfers. The offline file sharing speed can use 5GHz Wi-Fi Direct for sharing files at speeds of up to 490Mbps, the company claimed.

The Files app was meant for low-end phones as a means to share files offline in areas with patchy internet connectivity, like in countries such as India. Recently, Google tried to encourage people to use its file manager, and offered people a chance to earn up to Rs 1000 by using the app.

PUBG Lite beta for PC to go live in India on July 4

PUBG recently confirmed that it is bringing its PUBG Lite game to India and now, the game developers have revealed the exact date of when it will be available. As per an official post by the company on Facebook, the PUBG Lite game for PC will be made available on July 4. One can currently download the game and install it but won’t get to play it as the servers are not yet live here. This won’t happen from July 4 as the servers will be made live for Indian players. As the name suggests, PUBG Lite is a light-weight version of the full-fledged PUBG game that’s available for PC.

Alongside the announcement, the game developers also answered a couple of questions on their Facebook post. Those who are interested in playing the game will get to use their previously used accounts, if they have one. Players can avail in-game rewards like skins, trousers, scarfs, glasses, among other things by pre-registering for the title here. Simply tap on the “Participate Event” button and enter your credentials to log into your PUBG account in a pop-up window. One will get a code via email on July 11 when they pre-register for the game, which can be used to redeem items in-game.

As mentioned earlier, PUBG Lite is a lighter version of the original PC game. It can run on less powerful systems and/or in areas that have patchy internet connectivity. The title’s minimum requirements are 4GB RAM, 4GB storage, a Core i3 processor with a clock speed of 2.4GHz, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU. This means that the game can run on most laptops and budget computers.

In other PUBG news, PUBG Update 8 for PS4 and Xbox was recently rolled out. It adds a new Weapon Mastery feature, Controller Preset C, loot balancing, and more to the title. The Weapon Mastery system adds a new progression system, which enables players to upgrade weapon levels by playing and gaining experience with a particular weapon. The new progression system and its rewards, called charms and medals, won’t reset with a new season and 100 levels can be achieved per weapon. You can read more about it here.
