All three 2019 iPhones will come with the square camera bump, CAD renders confirms

The 2019 iPhones have once again surfaced online, this time with CAD renders that confirm the rather large square camera bump that will be present in the entire line-up of devices. The CAD renders are one of the many leaks and renders that have been released regarding the iPhone XI or whatever it is that Apple may decide to call the series.

iPhone XI CAD renders

iPhone 11 Max CAD renders

All the three upcoming iPhones — the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and the iPhone 11R — will have the square camera bump located on the top right corner on the rear panel. The renders were first spotted on Slashleaks. They once again confirm that the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Max will come with a triple-camera setup on the back, which will be a first for an iPhone, but not for smartphones in general. And while it’s not confirmed what the third camera will do, it’s liklely to be an ultra-wide camera, which will be present along with the regular wide-angle lens and telephoto lens. The square camera bump will also house the flash unit.

The iPhone XR successor, however, will come with a dual camera setup. That’s still one camera more than the iPhone XR. Now this could either be an ultra-wide camera or a telephoto lens. However, going by Apple’s past, it’s unlikely to be an ultra-wide camera, as that would give customers less reason to opt for the more expensive iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max.

iPhone 11R CAD render

The CAD renders also reveal the front fascia of the iPhones. All of them look quite identical to each other. The wide notch is not going away anytime soon, and based on previous rumours, the premium models might come with a dual camera unit on the front.

While the barrage of leaks and renders have more or less confirmed the design of the upcoming iPhones, nothing is quite certain as of now. Apple likes to keep things under wraps, unlike Google, which chose to confirm the upcoming Pixel 4’s design a day after it was leaked. So we would recommend you take this information with a pinch of salt.

To recall, Digit.in brought the first renders of the 2019 iPhones out in the open. It showed the same square camera bump positioned on the top corner housing what seemed like a triple-camera unit. Back then, we revealed it was still in the Engineering Validation Test stage. As the launch date draws closer, some of the things have changed. For instance, the camera arrangement now resembles the Huawei Mate 20 Pro a lot. Furthermore, the mute switch on the side is now a tiny round button instead of the slider.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 to be announced on August 7

Samsung is all set for the launch of its second flagship of the year. After several reports from last month, the Korean giant has announced August 7 as the launch date of the next Galaxy Note device. Today, Samsung sent out press invites confirming the date and location. The latest Unpacked event is scheduled for August 7 at 4PM ET (August 8 at 1:30AM IST) at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY. Samsung is expected to announce four different variants of the next Galaxy Note: the Note10 and the Note 10 Pro, and 5G variants of both.

There is not a whole lot of information revealed by the invite poster: just a picture of an S pen and a single camera lens. The latter obviously hints at the punch-hole display like the Galaxy S10, although Samsung will reportedly be putting it at the center of the Note 10 screen. Furthermore, the leaks suggest a fresh design for the rear cameras as well.

Rumours also suggest that Samsung will launch a Note 10 Pro alongside the regular Note 10. The major difference between the two could be in the size of the display. The regular model will allegedly feature a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, while the elder sibling is supposed to sport a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel. These specifications are not confirmed but the images of a case allegedly belonging to the Note 10 Pro are already making the rounds on the internet.

The next Samsung flagship is expected to pack a 4170mAh battery, Snapdragon 855 SoC or in-house Exynos 9875 chipset (for some markets) coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 1TB of storage.

On the optics front, the Galaxy Note 10 is rumoured to feature a triple aperture camera setup: f/1.5, f/1.8, and f/2.4, on the back. The primary lens will be able to switch between the three  apertures to give users control over the depth of field, and the amount of light entering the lens. Apart from the primary triple-aperture wide-angle lens, the Galaxy Note 10 will sport a telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide lens. Additionally, the Note 10+ is expected to add a fourth Time of Flight sensor for added depth information and various AR applications.

However, aside from the extremely clear launches, the question is whether we will get any update on the release date of the long-missing Samsung products, like the Galaxy Fold, and the Galaxy Home speaker (which was announced alongside Note 9) on August 7. Let’s wait and watch what happens to these products.

Looking at Samsung’s history of early product leaks, we should get a lot more information about the Unpacked event in the coming weeks. So stay tuned with Digit for all the action as we get closer to August 7.

Xiaomi CC9, CC9e phones to be launched today: Specifications, price and all you need to know

Last month, Xiaomi partnered with fellow Chinese technology company Meitu to introduce the CC-Series of smartphones. Earlier it was thought that the company would unveil two phones on the same day of the launch of the new Xiaomi sub-brand, but it didn’t. Xiaomi later announced that it would launch the phone on July 2. The company will launch at least two phones, the CC9 and the CC9e under the series at 7:00pm local time (4:30pm IST) in Beijing. There are reports that the company may also unveil a third phone, the CC9 Meitu, which is expected to sport a camera mechanism similar to the Asus 6z. You can follow the event developments on Xiaomi's Weibo handle and its official website.

The company has already teased a phone, which is apparently the Xiaomi CC9, in a video. The video shows Gavin Thomas, an eight-year-old kid who became an overnight sensation in China because of his ‘fake smile’ expression, and Xiaomi CC Product Manager and Brand Spokesperson Cici taking the phone for a spin. In the video, Xiaomi censored the design of the phone from the back, but we could see the phone having a waterdrop notch. As mentioned , the company is also expected to unveil the CC9e device, which is a watered-down version of the CC9. The third phone could be the CC9 Meitu that is speculated to sport a flip camera.

Xiaomi Mi CC9

When it comes to the specifications, the CC9 will pack a 48MP main sensor in addition to an ultrawide and a telephoto unit. One the front, it will have a 32MP sensor. Rumours suggest that this phone will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset. Recently, an image of the phone was leaked showing a white colour back panel. It features a glossy pearl-white finish that looks similar to the white colour model of the Huawei P30 Pro. The images reveal a vertically aligned triple-rear camera setup on the back. The rear panel can be seen featuring a gradient design and the glass is slightly curved on all four sides.

The CC9e, which has already been spotted on the TENAA website, is expected to sport a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. On the front, the phone could sport a 32MP sensor, while the rear camera setup is expected to feature a 48MP main shooter alongside wide-angle and telephoto sensors. Under the hood, the CC9e might feature the Snapdragon 712 chip. The third phone, which reportedly has the codename “Little Fairy”, is expected to have a 48MP main sensor along with an ultrawide and a telephoto sensor. An image of the alleged CC9 Meitu showed a back panel with a white colour finish and pink accents.

CC is the third brand under Xiaomi Corporation, with the other two being Mi and Redmi. According to Xiaomi Co-founder Lei Jun, the phones belonging to this series will be targeted at youngsters around the world who “want to define themselves”. ‘CC’ means Colorful & Creative, and the phones will follow the popular colour trends of the year, Jun said, adding that smartphones in the CC-Series will be designed and developed by the Chic & Cool 90 team.

Samsung CEO embarrassed over Galaxy Fold issues, admits product was pushed to market prematurely

Royole Flexpai stole the title for being the first commercial foldable phone but Samsung’s Galaxy Fold hogged more limelight as the device that broke down for many users. The company said that it is investigating why the inner display of its foldable phone broke down and that the handset would be sold as planned. However, that didn’t happen. Now, in an interview with The Independent, the company’s CEO, DJ Koh, has admitted that the Galaxy Fold was pushed to the market before it was ready and that the company missed something on the device.  “It was embarrassing. I pushed it through before it was ready,” said Koh.

“I do admit I missed something on the foldable phone, but we are in the process of recovery,” Koh said. “At the moment, more than 2,000 devices are being tested right now in all aspects. We defined all the issues. Some issues we didn’t even think about, but thanks to our reviewers, mass volume testing is ongoing.” This statement by the company’s CEO is in line with the recent announcement that the company had resolved all display-related issues with the Galaxy Fold. The company also said that the device was ready to hit the shelves. Tha said, there is still no specific launched date mentioned.

While the company has admitted that the Galaxy Fold was rushed to the market, it has not explained why it did so. The ongoing speculation is that it was due to the Huawei Mate X, which is Huawei’s own foldable phone. However, after the Samsung Galaxy fold fiasco, Huawei seems to have taken a step back as it has pushed the launch of its foldable phone by about three months and it is now expected to be made available in September.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was launched earlier this year for $1,980 (approx Rs 1.37 lakh). It comes equipped with an HD+ Super AMOLED panel. The outer display on the phone is 4.6 inches in size, and when unfolded, turns into a 7.3-inch screen with a ‘Dynamic AMOLED display’. The handset runs on a “7nm processor,” which is most likely the Samsung Exynos 9820, and comes with 12GB RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The handset houses a 4380mAh battery.

OnePlus accidentally sends hahaha notifications to OnePlus 7 Pro owners

If you are one of the many who saw a notification with some gibberish text and one more in Chinese from OnePlus, then worry not. You have not been hacked, nor has your smartphone been compromised. The notification is an error on the part of OnePlus’ OxygenOS team. OnePlus has acknowledged on its forum the two accidental notification push messages that some OnePlus 7 Pro users received. OnePlus says, “We sincerely apologize for the two accidental notification push messages that some OnePlus 7 Pro users received”.

One of the two notifications was a gibberish message and the other was in Chinese, which reads hahaha when translated. OnePlus says that as soon as it noticed the mistake, it performed an in-depth investigation into the cause of this notification. Apparently, the push occurred while the OxygenOS team was conducting a software test for the upcoming Android Q system update. There was an error in the testing process, resulting in the accidental push. The push was received by OnePlus 7 Pro users only. Also, only those users that have push notifications enabled saw the message.

According to OnePlus, “The notification push function is designed mainly as a survey tool to help us better understand our users’ feedback and to further improve the user experience and is based on the Google FCM (Firebase Cloud Messaging) Protocol. Therefore, we want to reassure that this incident does not indicate any risks for your personal data. ”

If this was an April fools joke or a cryptic message regarding a future OnePlus announcement, it would have been something fans may have enjoyed deciphering. However, considering the number of vulnerabilities and threats around smartphones and user data, it's nice to see OnePlus providing a quick response and an apology for the incident.

In other OnePlus news, the company recently sent out the OxygenOS 9.5.6 update for the OnePlus 7. The update aims to improve the camera and system of the phone. In addition, it adds the Android June 2019 security patch to the device. You can read more about the update here.

Microsoft announces Windows 10 19H2 Insider Preview Build

With the Windows 10 May 2019 Update still rolling out to eligible PCs, Microsoft begins discussing the beta build for the next feature update. In other words, Microsoft has just announced the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18362.10000. Windows 10’s next feature update is codenamed 19H2, and by the looks of things, it will be a relatively small update. It will be focussed on bringing improvements and mild enhancements to features brought in the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (19H1).

For those of you interested in testing the new beta build, you can sign up to become a Windows 10 Insider here, and then visit the Windows Update section in Settings to ensure you’re on the Slow ring. “19H2 will be delivered to Insiders in the Slow ring via servicing as a Cumulative Update and not full build updates,” writes Microsoft in its blog post on the matter, which clarifies that 19H2 will be less focussed on new features.

In another blog post, John Cable, Director of Program Management for Windows Servicing and Delivery talks a little more about what the next Windows 10 feature update will have. He calls 19H2 a “scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features and quality enhancements.” According to him, Microsoft will employ a new delivery fashion for this update. It will use one that is “less disruptive” and faster in terms of rollout speed.

Microsoft only recently began rolling the Windows 10 May 2019 Update out to eligible Windows 10 PCs. The much-awaited update brings with it numerous new features and improvements, including new emoji, Windows Sandbox, RAW image support, a new light theme, improved font management, refreshed Reset PC UI, and improvements to the Windows Subsystem for Linux Command Line Tool. You can read more about the update here.
