LG PuriCare Mini portable air purifier with 3600mAh battery to be launched in India at Rs 15,990

LG’s PuriCare lineup of air purifiers consists of four devices in India and the company will soon add one more to the lineup. The LG PuriCare Mini air purifier will be one of the company’s more affordable air purifiers, which is meant to be used on the go and as a portable air purifier. It will be priced at Rs 15,990 in India and launched in August 2019. The new air purifier features a compact design in comparison to standard air purifiers as it measures 69 x 64 x 200 mm and weighs 530 grams. The device will be launched in white and black colour models.

The LG PuriCare Mini air purifier comes equipped with dual inverter motors, and in terms of design, looks more like a portable Bluetooth speaker rather than an air purifier. It is said to work well in a 1.67 sq meter area and spew out 13 cubic meter of purified air (CADR). However, seeing how it is meant to be used as a personal air purifier, it would be better to use it in a manner that you directly breathe in the purified air expelled by it. It comes equipped with a pre-filter and a ‘Total Allergen Removal Filter’ that is said to remove 99 percent of all particulate matter, like PM10 and PM2.5.

The air purifier also comes equipped with a PM1.0 sensor and it uses the readings to display the current air condition using four colours. The  LG PuriCare Mini air purifier comes equipped with a 3600mAh battery that is said to deliver up to eight hours of run time and two hours at full speed. The air purifier also supports pairing with a Bluetooth app that helps a user get more information. In addition, the LG PuriCare Mini air purifier is touted to produce about 48 decibels of sound at top speed.

Samsung accused of false advertising and misleading customers about Galaxy S water resistance in Australia

Samsung Galaxy S flagships have been IP68 certified since 2016. The certification then passed on to the Note-series and the A-series of devices as well. Samsung has advertised that the said Galaxy phones are water resistant for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1.5 metres. However, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) believes otherwise and says that Samsung’s claims amount to false advertising. The South Korean tech giant has been accused of misleading customers on the “water resistance” capabilities of its Galaxy S smartphones.

The problem is two-fold. First, Samsung advertises that a submersion of 1.5 metres for 30 minutes or less wouldn’t impact the phone over the course of its lifetime. Second, Samsung advertised the phones being used in beaches and pools, even though the IP68 certification makes them resistant to only fresh water.

ACCC reviewed over 300 Samsung ads for its claims and said the following:

Samsung did not have a reasonable basis for making the representations because:

It did not test or know of testing (or sufficient testing) about how exposing a Galaxy phone to water (including non-fresh water) affected its usable life;

It held the view that using Galaxy phones in liquid other than fresh water could damage them. For example, Samsung’s website states that the new Galaxy S10 phone range is ‘not advised for beach or pool use';

It has denied warranty claims from consumers whose phones were damaged when used in water.

"Samsung showed the Galaxy phones used in situations they shouldn't be to attract customers," ACCC Chair, Rod Sims said.

As for Samsung’s part, the Korean giant reportedly said it has noted ACCC’s accusations and plans to defend itself in court. Moreover, the official statement of the company reads, “Samsung stands by its marketing and advertising of the water resistance of its smartphones."

Eased restrictions on Huawei wont have much impact on companys business: Founder and CEO

Huawei Founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei, has reiterated that eased restrictions on the company would not have “much impact” on its business, even as, a senior US official reportedly told the Commerce Department’s enforcement staff that the Chinese technology firm should still be treated as blacklisted. The development comes days after US President Donald Trump announced in a press conference at the G20 summit in Japan that American companies could now do business with Huawei.

According to a report (via The Financial Times), Ren said that Huawei would continue to “focus on doing our own job right”. “Huawei is also willing to continue to buy products from American companies. But we don’t see much impact on what we are currently doing. We will still focus on doing our own job right,” he was quoted as saying.

The executive restated that the company is self-reliant, self-sufficient and that the ban imposed by the Trump Administration was helping the team to become more united than ever. In an interview earlier this year, the top executive said that Huawei’s growth would slow down and that the US ban would not lead to negative growth or harm the development of the industry.

The latest news of treating Huawei as a blacklisted company has sent the tech industry into a state of confusion. Industry players are struggling to get clarification on what policies the President has unveiled to continue to do business with the Chinese tech giant. According to Reuters, John Sonderman, Deputy Director of the Office of Export Enforcement, in the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), sent an email to the enforcement staff giving clarifications on how US firms should approach to seek a license in order to sell equipment to Huawei.

All such [license seeking] applications should be considered on merit and flagged with language noting that “This party is on the Entity List. Evaluate the associated license review policy under part 744,” Sonderman reportedly said in the email. He cited regulations that include the Entity List and the “presumption of denial” licensing policy that is applied to blacklisted companies. He also said that “any further guidance from BIS should also be taken into account when evaluating Huawei-related license applications.”

As reported previously, Huawei is still waiting to get an approval from the US Commerce Department to resume usage of Android on its future smartphones. The company is reportedly developing its own operating system called ‘HongMeng’ for the rainy days. Smartphones are Huawei’s one of the key business areas and it significantly contributed to the company’s revenue. Out of the top three smartphone vendors globally, Huawei was the only company that registered an increase in the global market share as well as smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2019. Its competitors, Samsung and Apple, registered a decline in shares.

Ren had earlier claimed that US companies and Huawei are sharing the same fate. “US companies must abide by the laws, and so must the real economy. So let’s not blame them. The blame should rest with some US politicians. We should understand that these US companies and Huawei share the same fate. We are both players in the market economy,” he noted.

Although HMD Global hasn’t shared the official India launch date of the Nokia 9 PureView yet, we expect it to make its first appearance in India by the end of this month. The company should be confirming the launch date in the near future. All HMD has mentioned in the tweet is, “Explore much more than meets the eye with the power of 5. Ultimate focal length control on the Nokia 9 PureView. Coming soon."

Talking about the specifications of Nokia 9 PureView, the rear camera setup is developed in partnership with Light. It is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, and, Nokia has worked closely with Qualcomm and Google to optimise the camera setup to fully utilise the SoC. On the front, the 2019 flagship features a 5.99-inch Quad-HD+ (1440x2960 pixels) POLED screen with 18.5:9 aspect ratio, a 20MP selfie-shooter, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Nokia 9 PureView has 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the inside, it packs a 3,320mAh battery with wireless charging support. Additionally, Nokia has included connectivity options like Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC. It is also IP67 certified for water and dust resistance and packs a USB Type-C port. However there is no 3.5mm audio jack.

On the optics front, the Nokia 9 PureView sports five rear cameras with Zeiss certified lenses: three 12MP monochrome sensors and two 12MP RGB sensors. Moreover each of these cameras click a picture when a person takes a shot, and fuses all of them together to create a single image.

The device, with all its qualities, has not been very well received worldwide. Lots of bugs were initially reported when HMD Global started circulationg the device around. We'll be putting the same through its paces once we receive a review unit.

Redmi 7As Massive India upgrade was an already outed new camera: Price, launch offers and all you need to know

After heavily teasing an already launched handset, Redmi has finally introduced its new entry-level Redmi 7A smartphone in India. Touted as the “Smart desk ka Smartphone,” the device has already been launched in China and therefore, we knew almost everything about it. A previous, confusing tweet from the Xiaomi VP and India MD, Manu Kumar Jain, led us to believe that the upcoming phone might come equipped with a relatively newer processor. However, it is now confirmed that the Redmi 7A is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC that it was originally announced with, in China. Additionally, the promised big reveal from Xiaomi turned out to be something we already knew thanks to the company's own website. The Redmi 7A in India gets a 12MP Sony IMX 486 sensor instead of the 13MP sensor found on the Chinese variant of the phone.

Redmi 7A specifications

Redmi 7A features a unibody matte finish and comes in three matte colour options. It has been announced in Matte Blue, Matte Gold and Matte Black colours in India. The handset comes equipped with a 5.45-inch HD+ Full HD display and as mentioned earlier, is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC. It comes in two storage versions, one with 2GB RAM with 16GB storage and another with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There’s also a dedicated microSD card slot to expand its storage up to 256GB.

In terms of optics, it comes equipped with a 12MP Sony IMX 486 sensor on the rear, which is paired with an f/2.2 aperture lens. The handset is said to soon receive an AI scene detection feature via a future OTA update. On the front sits a 5MP camera that supports AI face unlock, AI Background blurring, AI Beautify and some more features. The Redmi 7A is backed by a 4000mAh battery that is touted to deliver 17 hours of HD video playback. It also features a splash resistant design and is said to sport reinforced corners to protect the device in case it falls.

Jain had been teasing “a massive upgrade + a very special surprise for India” with the Redmi 7A. We are still not sure whether simply equipping a better sensor would be enough as the algorithms helping it capture images and the processor also play a big role in how the final image looks. However, you can be rest assured that we will put the phone through its paces in our review.

Redmi 7A price, availability and launch offers

As mentioned earlier, the Redmi 7A comes in Matte Blue, Matte Gold and Matte Black colours. The 2GB RAM + 16GB storage version of the handset is priced at Rs 5,999, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version will cost you Rs 6,199. Now, as a “special surprise,” it seems that the company is offering a "massive" Rs 200 cashback to customers who purchase the handset in July (pun intended). The phone will go up for sale at 12pm on July 11 via mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Home.

As s launch offer, Xiaomi is offering Rs 2,200 cashback to Jio users, along with additional 125GB data. On Flipkart, the handset will be available with 10 percent discount when bought via Axis Bank Buzz credit card.

Alexas audio deletion feature does not completely clear your data from company servers, Amazon admits

Amazon’s Vice President of Public Policy, Brian Huseman, in a letter to Sen. Chris Coons, a Democrat leader from Delaware, confirmed that the company’s smart assistant Alexa holds transcripts of audio records even after they are deleted by users. The letter from Coons raised concerns regarding the user data being stored on Amazon servers and the time period for which the data is held by the company. The letter from Huseman reveals that Amazon keeps a record of voice interactions until the user manually chooses to delete them. Albeit, with some exceptions.

The letter dated June 28 reads, "We retain customers' voice recordings and transcripts until the customer chooses to delete them. When a customer deletes a voice recording, we delete the transcripts associated with the customer's account of both of the customer's requests and Alexa's response."

You do have the option to delete all your data if you intend to. But wait, does Amazon clear all your data after you manually choose to delete it?

The answer is, No. the letter mentions that in some cases, transcripts will be held even if users remove the audio files. The company says "we may still retain other records of customers' Alexa interactions, including records of actions Alexa took in response to the customer's request."

Amazon claims that it stores recordings and transcripts so as to provide transparency to its consumers regarding what Alexa ‘thought it heard’ and what Alexa provided as a response. It also stores data to train its machine learning systems to better understand the variations of speech “based on region, dialect, context, environment, and the individual speaker, including their age.”

Finally, the company says that it is making efforts to ensure that transcripts do not remain in any of Alexa’s or Amazons storage systems.

This is how you can remove Alexa’s audio recordings To delete specific recordings:

Go to the Amazon Echo app and tap on Settings. Next, tap on Alexa Privacy and select Review Voice History. You'll see a list of all the requests you've made since setting up your Echo. To delete a recording, tap it, then tap Delete voice recordings.

To delete all recordings:

Visit Amazon's Content and Devices page to erase all of your recordings at once. There, select Your Devices, click on the Alexa device you want to clean up and select Manage Voice Recordings. Finally, select the option that allows you to delete everything.
