Microsoft teases Windows 111 app on Microsoft Store with Stranger Things 3 clues

For nearly a week now, Microsoft has been dropping clues about a retro Windows product on its social media profiles. Now though, we know for sure that Microsoft's plan all along was to release an app on Microsoft Store that pays tribute to its first Windows operating system and ties in with some clues to Netflix's Stranger Things 3. Yet to become available for public download and use, the new app is called Windows 1.11. You can find it here.

“Experience 1985 nostalgia with a special edition Windows 10 PC app inspired by Windows 1.0—but one that’s been taken over by the Upside Down from Stranger Things. Explore the mysteries and secrets plaguing Hawkins, unlock unique show content and easter eggs, and play retro games and puzzles—all building off Stranger Things 3,” writes Microsoft in the app's description. The new Windows 1.11 app is rated T (for teens) and 775.5 megabytes.

While the news of the new Windows 1.11 app originally came in the form of a tweet by WalkingCat, Microsoft is still busy posting clues and teaser videos about it on social media. In its latest tweet, the Redmond-based software company showed the old Microsoft logo flickering and fading in a style that's true of Stranger Things. First aired in July 2016, Stranger Things is a Netflix Original science fiction web television series that revolves around the vanishing of a young boy. Read our review of the third season here.

While the product page for the new Windows 1.11 app seems to have been made live, the app itself is still not available for download. We expect the app to be a replica of Windows 1.0, the very first public version of Windows. We also expect it to have easter eggs and other clues related to the new season of Stranger Things. Windows 1.0 was released on November 20, 1985. One could install it on an IBM or Compaq PC with 256 kilobytes of memory using a couple of floppy disk drives.

Of course there's nothing strange about Windows 1.0. Don't worry. Everything will be ..-. .. -. . / --- -. / .--- ..- .-.. -.-- / ---.. - .... pic.twitter.com/lRrJn6Fdmf

Sony Xperia 20 renders and specs leak, will be powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset

Sony, it seems, still has smartphone ambitions. After announcing the flagship Xperia 1 at Mobile World Congress alongside the Xperia 10 series, the company has mostly remained quiet when it comes to smartphones. Now, a new rumour points to the possibility of a new smartphone, the Xperia 20.

According to a report by ITHome, the alleged Xperia 20 has popped up in renders and shows a super tall 21:9 aspect ratio display. The LCD-IPS display is said to be 6-inches in size with a resolution of FHD+. In terms of performance, the report points to the likelihood of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 being paired with 4GB and 6GB of RAM, with 64GB and 128GB of storage respectively. In terms of the camera, the report says there would be dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back while the front-facing camera’s resolution is not known.

As of now, there is no official word on when Sony will release the Xperia 20, although rumours suggest that the phone could launch later this year in Fall. However, the phone will not be coming to India as the company has shuttered its smartphone business in many countries, including India. Sony has been winding up its smartphone business around the world, with the company recently stopping the sales of its smartphones in India. As of now, Sony lists only four countries that would be a focus for its mobile business; Japan, Europe, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. A focus on these key regions, Sony says, will help the business return to profitability. In line with the same, Sony had also shuttered its manufacturing plant in Beijing and moved manufacturing over to Thailand.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 could include IR-blaster and drop headphone jack

While Samsung is gearing up for the launch of its next flagship device, leaks are coming in thick and fast. Just last week, the South Korean giant sent out invites for the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 7. Now, new leaks claim that the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 devices could come with an IR blaster, and drop the 3.5mm headphone jack. The audio jack is a feature that many users have come to expect of Galaxy phones. However, we might not get the 3.5mm jack in the Galaxy Note 10 devices this time around.

— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) 7 July 2019

As per a new leak by tipster Ice Universe, Galaxy Note 10 case renders have been spotted showing the absence of the headphone jack. Nonetheless, the renders appear to show a small cut-out at the top of the cases, which could indicate the presence of an IR-blaster. Moreover, the tipster has also revealed the screen protector of the Note 10 that shows a circular cut-out at the top center for housing the punch-hole camera, something which has been reported for a while now.

Besides this, from what we know thus far, Samsung could launch the Galaxy Note 10 in two display sizes: 6.4-inch and 6.8-inch, the latter could be called the Galaxy Note 10+. The phones could come with up to 12GB RAM and 1TB of internal storage. The phones could also feature a new camera setup on the rear.

On the optics front, the Galaxy Note 10 is rumoured to come with a primary wide-angle lens with a triple aperture setup, f/1.5, f/1.8, and f/2.4, a telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide lens. Additionally, the Note 10+ is expected to add a fourth Time-of-Flight sensor for added depth information and various AR applications.

Moreover, Samsung could also launch the Galaxy Watch Active 2 along with the Note 10 devices on August 7.

Apple allows Face ID and Touch ID login authentication for iCloud on iOS 13 beta, iPadOS beta, macOS Catalina beta

In a bid to make signing into its iCloud service, Apple is reportedly testing a new method. As per a report by 9to5Mac, devices running on iOS 13, iPadOS, and macOS Catalina beta can now use biometrics like Face ID and Touch ID to sign into beta.icloud.com. This option is said to be available when the iCloud website is visited using Safari on the devices running the above-mentioned beta operating systems. It apparently shows up as a pop-up and on devices supporting Face ID, the authentication option can be used. On the other hand, Macbook Pro and other eligible Touch ID capable devices can use the Touch ID feature for signing into iCloud.

As per the report, the new sign-in process doesn’t require two-factor authentication confirmation. Additionally, when devices running on iOS 13, iPadOS, and macOS Catalina beta visit iCloud.com, they will be automatically redirected to beta.icloud.com. The new form of authentication could be seen as Apple’s effort towards testing its 'Sign-in with Apple' option that was announced back at WWDC 2019. The new option is similar to login methods provided by Facebook and Google, which can be found on most apps. ‘Sign in with Apple’ is touted to be a faster and more secure way to sign into an app or service “without all the tracking”. Developers will be able to integrate the option with their app and users will get to tap it and authenticate with Face ID. This will enable logging in “without revealing any personal information”.

Apple also previously announced a new feature that would enable users to hide their email ID when signing into apps that require additional info. For example, for apps that need a user’s name and/or email address, users will be able to create and assign a random email address that will be handled by Apple. This email ID will forward all emails from that app to the user and one can choose to stop receiving emails at any time, which is a good way to rid your inbox from unwanted emails.
