JioGigaFiber, JioFiber or JioHome: Reliance Jio asks users to pick a name for its FTTH service

Reliance Jio has asked its users to name its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service, which is rumoured to launch country-wide in the next three months. According to a several reports, the company has asked its users to pick one of the following names: JioFiber, JioHome or JioGigaFiber. Jio apparently sent a notification to its users on the MyJio app. While we couldn't spot the notification on the MyJio app, a Twitter user has posted screenshots of the message. You can see the same below.

— Ni3 (@007Ni3) July 8, 2019

Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani had announced the JioGigaFiber service last year at the company's annual general meeting. The registrations started on August 15 last year.

The company has already announced that the service would be made available simultaneously in 1100 cities across India, but it recently updated the number of cities to 1600. In the areas where the Jio GigaFiber service is already present, the company offers 100GB free data at 100Mbps speeds for a month. Further, it is also being reported that the company will offer a new 50Mbps broadband annual plan for Rs 2,500.

A report said that this particular plan will have limited benefits when compared to the Rs 4,500 plan. Reportedly, the router bundled with this plan is said to support single band channel only and will offer lower speeds of 50Mbps instead of 100Mbps. In a previous report, it was said that the company is looking to offer a combo service consisting of fiber, landline and TV services for Rs 600 per month.

“While the triple combo—which will offer 600 channels with seven-day catch-up option, landline and 100 Mbps broadband—will be priced Rs 600 a month, the tariff for adding other smart home services may cost extra and depending on the plan, the tariff could go up to Rs 1,000 a month,” the person with the knowledge of the development was quoted as saying.

NASAs Hubble Telescope spots star formation in NGC 972 galaxy

One of the most vital NASA tools, the Hubble Telescope, has captured an image which shows ‘spring season’ in a galaxy far away from Earth. According to the US space agency, the telescope has captured an image from Space showing bright and colourful pockets of star formation, which are blooming like roses in a spiral galaxy named NGC 972. The galaxy is situated about 70 million light-years away.

According to NASA, the orange-pink pockets are created because of a reaction between the Hydrogen gas and the intense light streaming outwards from nearby newborn stars. In the image, you can see the bright patches amid dark, tangled streams of cosmic dust in the galaxy. The NGC 972 galaxy was found by German-British astronomer William Herschel in 1784.

Star Formation On NGC 972 Galaxy

“Astronomers look for these telltale signs of star formation when they study galaxies throughout the cosmos, as star formation rates, locations, and histories offer critical clues about how these colossal collections of gas and dust have evolved over time. New generations of stars contribute to and are also, in turn, influenced by the broader forces and factors that mold galaxies throughout the universe, such as gravity, radiation, matter, and dark matter,” NASA said.

The development follows another cosmic spectacle that the Hubble Telescope captured last week. The telescope captured an image of celestial fireworks that have been happening for nearly 170 years in the universe. These fireworks started when a super-massive star underwent an outburst. The star is named Eta Carinae and it is pegged to have a mass (in its early days) equivalent to that of 150 suns.

The explosions, which is emitting gases from the star in a double-star system 7,500 light-years away, are glowing in red, white and blue. The explosions are taking shape of bipolar ballooning lobes gas, filaments, and dust, the US space agency said. The eruption is so huge and bright that for a time it was a point of navigation, and now is still visible to the naked eye.

Recently, NASA celebrated the 29th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope. It was launched aboard the Space Shuttle Discover on April 24, 1990, deployed in space on the next day and entered service on May 20. NASA will soon be launching its successor - the James Webb Space Telescope in early 2021. Reportedly, it will have a huge upgrade over the Hubble telescope and will be able to peek further into deep space.

Google Chrome Play button in testing phase

Google Chrome is reportedly getting a play button. First spotted by ZDnet and Techdows, the new feature is being tested on Google Chrome’s development platform, Canary. It lets users control music playback/video playback on any tab, regardless of the tab you’re on.

Google is calling this feature ‘Global Media Controls’ and the same has been enabled this week for testing on Chrome’s Canary platform. With the feature enabled, users will see a play button that lets them control media playing on any tab, without the need for switching tabs. The Play button is placed right next to the URL, tapping on which opens a pop-up window. The window provides information about the current song being played and has options to Play/Pause, move to the next or previous song.

The feature is still in it’s testing phase, therefore it is reportedly buggy and crashes almost every time one tries to pause a video. The feature might come handy to Chrome users that keep multiple tabs open at a time. There’s no news yet on the wider availability of the feature.

How to enable Global Media Controls on Chrome?

To test the Global Media Controls on Chrome, you must have Canary browser installed. On the browser, head to chrome://flags/, and search for ‘Global Media Controls’. When the result appears you can enable it. Relaunching the browser will bring play button to your browser.

PUBG banned in Jordan citing negative effects on the citizens

PUBG has been one of the most popular mobile games in the recent past. The online multiplayer Battle Royal game pits players against each other in a virtual fight to the death. However, it hasn’t been well received by the government officials in many countries around the world. The game has been banned in Iraq and the Indonesian province of Aceh. It was also banned in Nepal and the Indian state of Gujarat for a short while. Now, a source in Jordan's Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) told Roya News that it has warned users about the game saying it "had negative effects on its users, which led to it being officially blocked."

Social media users had doubts that the game was banned after they reported that a notice saying, "Server did not respond. Please try again later," appeared on the screen when players attempted to play the game. The TRC decided to ban the game after it reviewed the study of the World Health Organization (WHO), which classified PUBG as a violent game that leads to addiction and social isolation.

Often linked to the blokbuster book and film series, “The Hunger Games”, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has expanded into a standalone game under Greene's creative direction. It was first released in Steam’s early access beta program in March 2017. However it was not until 2018 till the game took-off. It is one of the most-played and best selling games of all time, selling over 50 million copies worldwide by June 2018, with over 400 million players in total when including the mobile version.

Due to its popularity, PUBG is considered as the defining game of the Battle Royale genre. However, in May, Chinese tech giant Tencent ceased offering the game, instead directing users to a newly launched and nearly identical programme it created.

PUBG is widely popular in Jordan. However, psychologists in the country have often warned the game encourages violence and contributes to bullying among the youth.
