NASAs Hubble Space Telescope discovers a black hole disk that shouldnt exist

Several galaxies hide supermassive black holes at their center, but NGC 3147 is not just another galaxy with a black hole at heart. This particular black hole, spotted by a team of scientists using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, shouldn’t exist, according to the current theories about the universe. The supermassive black hole weighs about “250 million times more than the sun,” says a journal in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society that was published on July 11. The surprising bit about the black hole is that its edge is encircled by an accretion disk, which contains debris and gas but the disk shouldn't be there.

The black hole at the center of NGC 3147 is approximately 130 million light-years from Earth. The surprising discovery is that the astronomical object is malnourished since isn't enough gravitationally captured material to feed it regularly. Such black holes are said to puff up incoming materials rather than flattening them like a disk as this is generally observed in well-fed cosmic entities. However, this particular black hole is spotted with a disk of materials moving around it at 10 percent the speed of light.

Lead author on the study, Stefano Bianchi, says, "This is an intriguing peek at a disk very close to a black hole, so close that the velocities and the intensity of the gravitational pull are affecting how the photons of light look,"

So this type of black hole should not exist, at least according to the current astronomical theories, but it does. It is also said to be a unique, real-world demonstration of Einstein's laws of relativity.

Realme 4, Realme 4 Pro spotted on EEC, may launch soon: Report

Realme 4 and Realme 4 Pro smartphones have allegedly been spotted on Russia's Eurasian Economic Commission’s (EEC) database. Three phones with model numbers RMX1921, RMX1927 and RMX1971 have received EEC's certification, out of which, phones with model numbers RMX1921 and RMX1971 are said to be the Realme 4 and Realme 4 Pro handsets. The third device could be the successor of the Realme U1, which is the sole handset in the company’s U-Series. To recall, Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro featured RMX1821 and RMX1851 as their model numbers respectively.

If the report can be believed, this is probably a hint towards these phones being launched in the coming months. It should be noted that Realme had launched the Realme 2 and Realme 2 Pro in the second half of 2018, and the successors of these phones were unveiled in the first half of 2019. Given this launch schedule, it is speculated that these phones could be the fourth generation of Realme devices. A report from The Nashville Chatter also mentions that the Realme 4 and Realme 4 Pro may go official around August or September.

The news comes soon before the company is gearing up to launch the Realme X and possibly the Realme 3i on July 15, in India. Realme X has already been launched in China and in India, the phone will retail on online retailer Flipkart. Just like the Realme X, the Realme 3i will also be sold through Flipkart. Recently, an alleged Realme 3i was spotted on Geekbench sporting a MediaTek Helio P60 Chipset and 4GB RAM.

The Realme X, on the other hand, features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and a copper-pipe cooling, which is said to bring down the phone’s temperature by 15.2 percent while gaming. There is no info on the RAM and storage variants the Realme X could be introduced with, in the country. The phones sports a 6.53-inch AMOLED display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is said to feature a 91.2-percent screen-to-body ratio and it comes equipped with a sixth-generation optical in-display fingerprint sensor.

In terms of optics, the device comes equipped with a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor with a 6P lens. There is also a 5MP secondary sensor. On the front is a pop-up 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens. The rear-camera setup on the phone features special modes that are touted to improve the photography experience. The phone is powered by a 3765mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 support.

Astronomers examine Unknown Pleasures pulsar 40 years after Joy Divisions album release

40 years ago, the English rock band Joy Division released their debut album, Unknown Pleasures. The cover of the album is now iconic, and features a series of lines that indicate radio emissions from a pulsar, PSR B1919+21. It was the first radio pulsar ever discovered. Pulsars are incredibly massive objects, and the remnants of dead stars much more massive than the Sun. After the star goes nova, it leaves behind a dense core, known as a neutron star. A spinning neutron star is called a pulsar. Each of the 80 lines on the album cover featuring measurements of PSR B1919+21 corresponds to a turn in the pulsar. Think of it like a lighthouse, where the beam crosses an observer periodically. Only, the light is not always of the same brightness, and is in the radio spectrum. These differences in brightness cause the wavy lines in the measurement. The pulsar made 80 turns over a period of 107 seconds. The original observation was published in a PHD thesis by Harold Craft. It found its way to an encyclopedia read by Joy Division lead guitarist Bernard Sumner. The band's graphic designer, Peter Saville based the album cover on this image.

Now, 40 years later, astronomers from the University of Manchester observed PSR B1919+21 to mark the anniversary of the album release. When the album was originally published, little was known about the pulsars. The changes in the brightness of the radio flashes were thought to be chaotic and random. Scientists can now see periodic waxing and waning of the brightness of pulsars, a pattern that can be observed in some pulsars. Researchers now know that the radio waves are produced by high energy particles moving at nearly the speed of light, created from electrical discharges from the ionised gas surrounding the pulsar. Essentially, the wavy lines represent lightning in outer space.

Interestingly, when researchers first observed the pulsar, they had seen nothing like it, and the periodic radio flashes made it look like the object was artificial in originl. The object was designated as LGM-1 (for little green men). Apart from being the inspiration for the Joy Division album cover, PSR B1919+21 has also inspuired a Max Richter composition, Journey (CP1919).

India manufactured Apple iPhone XR, iPhone XS may be cheaper, tipped to hit stores next month: Report

Apple’s latest iPhones assembled in India by Foxconn’s local unit are reportedly hitting the stores this August. Citing sources, Reuters reports that some approvals are pending, but the India-made iPhone XR and XS phones might hit the market by next month. The report further points out that this development could help the Cupertino-based company reduce prices of its handsets in the country.

“Expanding local assembly will help Apple save on high taxes levied on the import of fully-built devices, as well as meet local sourcing norms for opening its own retail stores in India,” Reuters reported. Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that the company wants the Indian government to cut heavy duties implemented on Apple products that are sold in India. Analysts have said that the iPhone's premium pricing has limited its market share to 1.2 percent (until December 2018) against comparatively affordable Android phones such as OnePlus flagships.

“Local production will give Apple the leeway to play with the margins of their distributors and indirectly price their phones lower,” Rushabh Doshi, a Research Director at Tech Consultancy Canalys, was quoted as saying. The first development in this direction was reported in December last year, when a report claimed that Apple would assemble its top-end iPhones in India. This was said to happen from 2019 via the company's locally established Foxconn unit in Sriperumbudur town of Tamil Nadu. The source stated that this move could help the Cupertino-based tech company take its “business in India to a new level.”

At that time, Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister M C Sampath, said that Foxconn, would invest Rs 2500 crores (approx $356 million) to expand the plant, including investment in iPhone production. Foxconn already manufactures Xiaomi devices in the country. If the new development turns out to be true, the latest iPhones could join the iPhone SE and iPhone 6S models, which are assembled in the country. The latter two handsets are assembled through Wistron Corp’s unit in Bengaluru.
