Xiaomi Mi A3 retail box images leaked: Report

Xiaomi recently started teasing its next Android One smartphone on social media, and now it looks like the retail box of the smartphone has been leaked online. GSMArena, has posted images of the retail box, and notes some of the specifications of the device.

As per the report, the device will be available in Blue and White shades, and possibly even Black. The images suggest that the phone will feature a notched display and packs a triple-rear camera setup with a vertically stacked sensors. There’s also an Android One logo at the back, which strongly suggests that this is the upcoming Xiaomi Mi A3 smartphone.

The retail box of the smartphone suggests that the device will pack a 6.08-inch AMOLED display and an under display fingerprint scanner. Other specifications point towards a 4030mAh battery with 18W fast charging support and a 48MP rear camera. At the front, the phone is tipped to pack a 32MP sensor. It is also tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 655 SoC.

Previous reports suggested that the Xiaomi Mi A3, would be the global version of the Mi CC9e, which was launched in China a few days ago. While the specifications and design of the two devices do seem to suggest the same, it should be noted that the Mi CC9e sports an HD+ display. However, considering the fact the Mi A2 packed a Full HD display, it’s unlikely that its successor will sport a lower resolution display.

Apple Made in India iPhones are expected to hit Indian stores next month

Apple 'Made in India' iPhones are expected to hit Indian stores, possibly as soon as next month. These iPhones have been assembled in India itself by Foxconn's local unit. The local assembly of the iPhone's could mean that the prices of iPhones may possibly drop in the country.

According to an anonymous source, India-made iPhone XR and XS devices are expected to hit the market in August, post some approvals. Since the info has not officially been made public, it would be better to take it with a pinch of salt.

Local expansion would greatly help Apple with saving on local taxes that are imposed on fully-built devices that are imported into the country.

Apple devices are known for their premium pricing, which has greatly limited its market share in India. India, the second largest smartphone market in the world, is dominated by the more budget smartphone options, such as the offerings of Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus among others.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has pushed to show the world that India is a prime market and a great hub for smartphone manufacturing thanks to cheap labour and over a billion potential takers. His push has seen smartphone giants such as Samsung and Oppo expanding rapidly in the country. Contract manufacturers such as Foxconn have seen the same success, ramping up local operations in India.

AMD Ryzen 3000 causes boot problems for a few Linux Distros, and issues with Destiny 2

AMD launched its latest Ryzen 3000 series of CPUs just last week which are the first 3rd-generation Ryzen chips to be based on 7nm technology. However, there seems to be some problems with the CPUs already. Some Linux users noticed that there's an issue with some newer distros which are based on 5.0 or higher that causes the OS to be not able to boot up.

Some users did manage to get around this glitch either by taking the systemd component back to an old version or a newer patched edition. However, now there are complaints being raised by gamers on Windows since they are having issues with Destiny 2 on the new CPUs. As reported to Bungie, over the last couple of days, some users complained that the game refuses to launch when used on PCs with the new chips.

In a statement to Phoronix, AMD said that they have implemented a BIOS fix for the issue and have distributed it to motherboard manufacturers. Now users will just have to wait patiently until a patched version is made available to them, which reportedly could be as soon as next week for beta releases.

NVIDIA will allegedly have a fix out soon too in order to address the BSOD crashes on systems that have the Ryzen 3000 with GeForce GPUs.

Redmi K20 Pro, K20, Realme X and Oppo K3 to launch in the coming week

With the upcoming Amazon Prime day being all the rage, next week is looking up to be a really exciting one given the phones we expect to see launching in the Indian market. IF you’re looking to buy a smartphone without breaking the bank, you should really hold off on spending any money and wait for next week.

Redmi K20 Pro

Xiaomi has been really creating some over-zealous hype around the launch of the K20 Pro, a phone that the company considers to be the “flagship killer 2.0.” The phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line processor, the Snapdragon 855, with RAM options being 6GB and 8GB. The phone has already launched in China, with the 6GB RAM variant offering 64GB and 128GB storage options and the 8GB RAM variant sporting 128GB and 256GB storage. Expect a 20 megapixel pop-up camera for selfies and a triple camera setup on the back with a 48 megapixel primary camera. The FHD+ display measure 6.39 inches and supports DC Dimming. To top it all up, there’s a 4000mAh battery which should last you more than a day, given that the display is an AMOLED one. The China pricing for the phone indicates that the phone could be priced starting at Rs 25,000 (roughly, converted), going upwards for higher variants, but we have known Xiaomi to put a special focus on India. The launch is slated for next week, so let’s see where the phone falls in terms of its pricing.

Redmi K20 Pro

Redmi K20

To some, the Redmi K20 Pro may feel like overkill, which is why we’re expecting the company to also launch the Redmi K20 alongside its more powerful sibling. The Redmi K20 foregoes the Snapdragon 855 in favour of a more reasonable Snapdragon 730. The RAM and storage configurations based on what’s launched in China are expected to be the same as the K20 Pro, that is, 6GB RAM with 64GB and 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. The phone also continues to sport an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080x2340, expectedly allowing the 4000mAh battery to last adequately long. In terms of the camera, you get a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera along with triple camera stack. The phone launched in China at a starting price of Rs 20,000 (roughly, converted), but we’re excited to see how Xiaomi would price the device in India.

Realme X

Realme, an off-shoot of Oppo, has really been aggressively working on eating away some of Xiaomi’s market share in the budget and mid-range segment. Their next attempt at furthering that cause is the Realme X. Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India has confirmed that in India, the phone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730. Realme X offers three RAM variants; 4GB, 6GB and 8GB. This information is based on the fact that the phone has already launched in China. Madhav Sheth had tweeted that there will be some changes to the phone when it launches in India, including a different SKU. The Realme X comes with an FHD+ AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 5, with the whole setup devoid of a notch. The phone has a 16 megapixel pop-up selfie camera, and a dual camera system on the back. The primary shooter is a 48MP sensor while the secondary camera is just a depth sensor. The 3765mAh battery supports 20 watt fast charging, and we hope that a capable charger is included in the box.

Realme X

Oppo K3

Another smartphone that’s already released in China and is landing on our shores next week is the Oppo K3. Based on what launched in China, the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC mated with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Storage varies between 64GB and 256GB, depending on the RAM variant you pick. The phone has a notchless AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x2340. Oppo already has a number of phones with a pop-up selfie camera and the K3 will be no different. The front facing camera is 16 megapixel shooter and on the rear, we have a 16 megapixel camera as well accompanied by a 2 megapixel depth sensor. The Oppo K3’s battery has a rating of 3765mAh and supports 20W fast charging.

While there may be a few more phones coming out in the coming week, the above four smartphones are by far the most exciting ones to look forward to.

Samsung may be developing foldable augmented reality glasses

Patently Apple first noticed one of Samsung's latest patent applications which indicated that the Korean giant is exploring the possibility of developing augmented reality glasses. Allegedly, the documentation that Samsung submitted to the US Patent & Trademark Office shows a pair of foldable AR glasses that look quite similar to typical glasses, but have thicker frames to accomodate the device's electronic components.

In its initial stages, which may be subject to change later, the eyepiece automatically switches on every time it is unfolded. As long as one of the eyepiece's temples is unfolded, the glass's projector which is mounted on the temple will beam images on a small display which is placed over the wearer's FOV (field of view).

To ensure that the device doesn't accidently turn off if the user turns their head wrong, the company may be utilising magnetic sensors that make sure the glasses remain in the unfolded position until the user manually folds them.

However, there is a real possibility that the patent application may never go through, so Samsung hasn't discussed the exact components they intend to utilise. In case it does go through, they cited ARM-based processors as an example of the kind of tech the device might use.

PUBG Mobile Beta updated to v0135, brings new weapon, interface changes and more

PUBG Mobile Beta has got yet another update. This time around, it has been bumped up to version 0.13.5. As one might expect, the update brings a whole host of additions to the game, most notable being a new weapon, which will be a part of the SMG category.

The weapon is called the PP-19 Bizon, which uses 9mm ammunition, just like the UMP, Uzi and VSS. However, the Bizon sports a large 53-round magazine, making it great for laying down suppressive fire. In terms of expandability, the weapon is quite limited as it only features options for sight and muzzle. As such, the weapon should be best suited for early to mid-game.

Other new changes include a Season interface, which has been adjusted to make it look better and more intuitive. There is also a change in the classic more results screen. Now, ratings and tier changes are more visible on the screen. Further, rewards will now automatically sent to players at the end of the season.

The ranking system has also been overhauled. Now, players should see a bigger impact of kill points on tier rankings. Speaking of tiers, Tier Icons have been given a new look and tier promotion messaging system has been improved. Further, players having gold or lower tier will be moved to the same tier in the next season.

Besides this, the v0.13.5 update to PUBG Mobile Beta also sees more subtle changes such as minor changes to the visual effects in the title, weapons being shown when wearing mythic outfits. The update also fixes a bug in which players could not move the avatars of their teammates in Team Deathmatch.
