Poco F1 users asked to return device for testing after facing post-update touchscreen issues

When the Poco F1 launched last year, it was the most affordable phone with flagship-grade hardware. The company has been releasing updates to the device regularly to mitigate any issues with the device. However, after receiving the MIUI v10.3.5.0 update, some users are apparently facing issues like screen freezing, ghost touches, and touch lags. The company has now asked the users who are experiencing any of these problems to return the handsets for testing.

The announcement was made by Pocophone Global head, Alvin Tse on Twitter in a string of tweets. He also gave an email ID to get in touch with the company so that users’ device could be picked up. “If yours is picked, they will email and give further instruction,” Alvin Tse said. It is likely that the company won’t be releasing a software fix for the phones plagued by this issue before it tests the phone to find the root cause.

It is to be noted that there is no mention that the company would give another device to users whose handsets have been collected. So either you have to wait till the team finds a fix for the problem, or you should have a backup device to use once your device gets picked up. In January, the company promised to fix the Poco F1’s touch-related issues as well as the battery drain problems with an update. However, these weren’t resolved.

Last month, Xiaomi announced that the MIUI 11 would bring a system-wide dark mode on the Poco F1 smartphones. Some Xiaomi devices already come with this feature, like Xiaomi Mi 8, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Note 7 Pro, which received a system-wide dark mode with the MIUI 10 beta update.

(2/2) If you are willing to send in your device (touch issues only), then please send your user ID, contact info, description of issue, Feedback ID, videos/screenshots to vzhaoxiaomi@xiaomi.com. If your device can help solve the issue, we will reach out and contact you. Thanks!

Apple iPhone SE, 66Plus, and 6s6s Plus sales terminated in India: Report

After the launch of Apple iPhone XR, XS, and the XS Max in 2018, the Cupertino giant discontinued the iPhone SE, the 6s series, and the iPhone X in the US. Now, Apple seems to be doing the same in India. According to The Economic Times, Apple is terminating the sales of its ‘lower priced’ smartphones in India. The entry-level iPhones include the SE, 6, and the 6s series models. Following the move, buying an entry-level iPhone will become more expensive in India - by almost Rs 8,000.

However, the iPhone 6s (32GB) is still selling on Amazon.in for Rs 26,999. The other models are out of stock on the e-commerce site. “The decision was taken after Apple improved its revenue and profit in India in 2018-19, even though iPhone sales volumes took a hit, with the focus more on pushing the latest and higher-priced models. An industry executive said Apple India’s sales in the April-June quarter had gone up after it undertook a promotion to drop iPhone XR prices” claims the report.

“Cupertino does not want Apple India to chase volumes by discounting at the cost of profit,” said one leading trade partner of Apple. “These models which are being phased out will increase the average selling price of iPhones in India and boost both profit and revenue.” Apple India has declined to comment on the matter.

Analysts have forecasted that iPhone shipments will continue to fall this year following the plunge in iPhone sales last year.

As for the future of Apple in India, the tech giant is putting its efforts on the upcoming iOS 13, which will support 22 Indian languages. It can now also understand the Indian English accent. Moreover, Apple has expanded its iPhone assembling operations in India.

“These initiatives highlight how Apple still considers India an important market for business. Just that the priority has changed from just selling a box to improving overall-sales experience, brand positioning and financials,” the executive added.

11-year-olds iPhone 6 catches fire in the US, Apple investigating: Report

An 11-year-old user in California has claimed that her iPhone 6 caught fire recently and that before throwing it on a blanket, she saw sparks flying everywhere. Kayla Ramos said that the iPhone 6 burned holes in the blanket once she threw it. She said that she only uses the device to watch YouTube videos and occasionally lets her siblings play games on it. Apple is investigating the matter, a media report said.

“I was sitting down, and I had my phone in my hand and then I saw sparks flying everywhere and I just threw it on a blanket. I was right here on the bed and the phone managed to burn through this blanket and make these holes,” 23ABC news portal quoted Ramos as saying. Maria Adata, Kayla’s mother, said that the next day when she called Apple support. The company reportedly asked her to send necessary pictures for proof and ship the phone to the retailer.

As per Adata, Apple is investigating the cause of the accident and will ship her a new phone. “I will no longer sleep with it next to me. I know we charge it a lot maybe that caused it, maybe it overheated,” Adata was quoted as saying. Apple, however, says that there can be a few factors that could cause a phone to overheat.

Apple generally points out that the usage of any unauthorised Apple product, like charging cables, could be a primary cause of such accidents. Any unauthorised repairs and external damage to a phone could cause also cause it to catch fire. This is not the first time that an iPhone has caught fire.

In December last year, an Ohio man escaped the incident when his three-week-old iPhone XS Max (unidentified variant) exploded while it was in his pocket. Josh Hillard had said that his phone was in his rear trouser pocket when it randomly began to dissipate “a large amount of heat” as well as green- and yellow-coloured smoke. By the time Hillard went to a private spot to check it, the phone had caught fire.
