iPhone 11 rumours: Three models, A13 chip, new Taptic engine, and more

Like last year, Apple is reportedly planning to release three new iphones this year as well. The new ‘iPhone 11’ models could be launched later this  year. According to 9to5Mac, the three new iPhones could be powered by Apple’s latest A13 chipset and a new Taptic Engine, codenamed “leap haptics.” While we don’t know a lot about the new Taptic Engine as of now, it could replace 3D Touch on this year’s iPhones.

It was previously rumoured that Apple could include a USB Type-C port on this year’s iPhone line-up but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. The report claims, “according to people who’ve seen the devices, all three iPhone 11 models will still feature a Lightning port”. Moreover, Apple will soon bring Haptic Touch to all devices - including iPad and iPod Touch - with iOS 13. Hence, the tech giant is said to feature the new Taptic Engine ‘leap haptics’ on the upcoming iPhone models.

It is being rumoured that the upcoming iPhone models will feature a triple rear camera setup. The three cameras could come with a feature called Smart Frame that would capture the area in pictures and videos around the frame so that the user can adjust the framing or perform automatic perspective and crop corrections in post. However, the extra information would be retained for a small amount of time, and be discarded automatically afterwards, for privacy reasons.

On screen resolution, 9to5Mac reported that the “ ‘iPhone 11’ models are known as D42 (iPhone12,3) which will replace the iPhone XS; D43 (iPhone12,5) which will replace the iPhone XS Max; and N104 (iPhone12,1) which will replace the iPhone XR. D42 and D43 will have a 3x OLED Retina display, while N104 will still feature the 2x Liquid Retina display just like the current generation. All three iPhones will feature the same screen resolution as their predecessors."

Asus ROG Phone II pricing revealed as it goes up for pre-order in China

Asus recently announced the ROG Phone II, which is its second gaming-centric handset that comes with geeked-out specs and features. While the smartphone is probably the most powerful gaming phone right now, there was no information on what it could be priced at or when it will officially hit the shelves. However, the company has made the ROG Phone II official in China and has revealed its pricing in the country. While there’s no guarantee that the price of the phone will be the same as its China pricing, there’s a good chance that it can be priced around the same figure.

The Asus ROG Phone II (first-impressions) is up for pre-orders in China via jd.com and as per the listing, it comes in four variants and will go on sale in the country on July 31. The phone’s Tencent game custom variant that is equipped with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at CNY 3,499 (Rs 35,000 approx) in China. There’s also a standard 12GB RAM + 512GB storage version of the handset, which costs 5,999 (Rs 60,000 approx) and it is slightly unconventional that the handset’s customised version is priced lower than the regular version.

Moving on, the ROG Phone II is also offered in a Zhizun version that sells for CNY 7999 (Rs 80,145 approx). There’s also an e-sports armour version of the phone, which sells for CNY 12999 (Rs 1,30,224). While these two variants are not mentioned on JD.com, the company announced them in a Weibo post. However, on the online retailer’s website, an Enjoy peace in Beijing variant with 12GB RAM + 512GB storage is priced at CNY 6199 (Rs 62,117 approx), while its 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version costs CNY 3699 (Rs 37, 070 approx). While the company has revealed the China pricing of the ROG Phone II, we can expect it to be priced around the same or slightly higher in India.

Currently, the company offers phones under Z-Series, V-Series and Y-Series in India, and it will launch the S-Series in the country on August 7.

“The speculation suggesting the discontinuation of vivo V15 and V15Pro from the Indian market are not true and the production of both the devices will continue at our manufacturing facility. Both the devices have been our star performers and have been doing very well in the Indian market. V15 Pro defines Vivo's' ‘innovation lead’ brand proposition in the sub-30k segment. OnePlus 7 Pros secondary rear cameras to get Nightscape and video recording capabilities

OnePlus has been focusing on improving the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro since it first launched the two smartphones. The OnePlus Image Product Manager recently admitted that it wasn't until the OnePlus 7 Pro was developed that the company decided to compete with the cameras on flagship phones. Hence, the cameras on the latest flagship phones have remained a constant focus for OnePlus. Furthermore, a new report suggests that OnePlus is working towards bringing even more features and added functionality to the cameras on its latest flagship device.

Zhang confirmed that his team is working on bringing the Nightscape feature to the secondary cameras too. Nightscape is OnePlus’ take on Google’s Night Sight, which is developed in order to achieve better details and brightness when shooting in low-light, captures a series of frames and combines them into one image.

Right now, the Nightscape shooting mode is only available for the 48MP rear camera. However, you will reportedly soon be able to use the feature on the other sensors too. Zhang didn’t specify if they’ll be bringing it to the wide-angle camera or the telephoto camera. Moreover, he also confirmed that video recording would be coming to the telephoto and wide-angle cameras. Zhang also stated that OnePlus had to hold back some features at the time of launch and release them afterwards because of the "limited resources" that he had to work with.

"If we had more people on board we would have more resources to put into different projects and also different aspects of the development process. But it's not necessarily related to just the size of the team. It's only if we hire the right people to our team would we be able to solve our problem. It's not that we need to just keep hiring more people. Right now we have our own direction and we need people who are aligned with our vision to join us and that's our goal for the long run,” said Zhang.
