Indian Air Force will launch a new official mobile game on iOS and Android on July 31

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is on a high (in more ways than one) following the Balatkot air strikes a few months earlier. Now though, it seems as if the IAF plans to capitalise this wave of support as well as the popularity of mobile gaming by launching a new official game. The IAF posted a teaser for the upcoming game on its social media handles. The official name of the game is not yet known, but the end of the teaser suggests that it might just be called ‘Indian Air Force’ with a tagline, ‘A Cut Above’.

The teaser gives a glimpse at some gameplay elements and showcases a bunch of aircraft used by the Indian Air Force. This includes the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, Sukhoi Su-39MKI, Dassault Mirage 2000, HAL Tejas, SEPECAT Jaguar as well as the Dassault Rafael, which is expected to be inducted soon. Besides jet aircraft, players will also be able to take control of a Mil Mi-17 attack helicopter, Boeing C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft and a stationary anti-aircraft gun. There also seems to be a brief glimpse at the Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopter.

Besides engaging in dogfights with opposing aircraft and bombing targets, players will also have to undertake refueling missions. The game also seems to add a bit of science fiction into the mix. At one point in the teaser, players seem to be attempting to take down a huge bomber, which looks like a massive version of the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit bomber. The gameplay seems to be tilting towards a more ‘arcade-like’ experience that one might find in the Ace Combat and H.A.W.X. series. In its official tweet, the IAF notes that the game will be launched with single player only, with multiplayer being added later. The game will be launched on July 31.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the IAF has launched an official game for mobiles. Guardians of the Skies was launched a few years ago and currently holds a rating of 4.4 and 4.3 on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Who knows, the game might even help the IAF with its recruitment process, something that the US Army has been doing for years with the America’s Army series of games.

Launch of #IAF #MobileGame : Android / iOS version of IAF developed Mobile Game (Single Player) will be launched on 31 Jul 19. Download on your Android / iOS mobile phone & cherish the thrilling flying experience. The multiplayer version will soon follow. The Teaser of the game… pic.twitter.com/yhfOrOZxWV

Netflix introduces mobile-only plan in India at Rs 199 per month

Netflix recently confirmed that it would introduce a mobile-only plan by Q3 this year in India. True to its word, the company is now rolling out the new Mobile plan, which is priced at Rs 199. With its new offering, the online streaming platform is aiming to add more subscribers to its now slowly stagnating growth numbers. This new mobile plan by Netflix offers viewing on only one device at a time and this device can only be a phone or a tablet. In addition, video streaming quality will only be in Standard Definition (SD). This new offering joins the company’s existing basic, standard and premium plans.

To opt for the new mobile plan, one can either download the Netflix app on a smartphone or tablet and select the mobile plan, which is priced at Rs 199. One will get to avail a free month of Netflix in case this is the first time they are signing up for the service but one needs to add their account details. Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix says, “Our members in India watch more on their mobiles than members anywhere else in the world-  and they love to download our shows and films. We believe this new plan will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit people who like to watch on their smartphones and tablets—both on the go and at home.”

This new plan by Netflix follows the report of the online streaming platform adding far fewer subscribers than it had projected. The company added 2.7 million new subscribers in the second quarter this year, as opposed to the predicted 5.1 million. The company had been testing the plan in India from some time now and commenting on the tests it said that all users might see the option to subscribe for the new plans and that there’s a possibility of the option never making it out of testing. However, it seems like the company is willing to revamp its services to get ahead of the competition.

It was previously reported that Netflix’s mobile plan could be priced at Rs 250. However, at Rs 199, it is competing with Amazon Prime and Disney-owned Hotstar, whose services are priced at Rs 129 and Rs 199 per month respectively. Moreover, local online media streaming providers like AltBalaji and ZEE5 are even cheaper. Recently, MX Player also announced some free-to-watch original shows. It remains to be seen how the new mobile-only plan by Netflix fares for the company in India.
