PUBG Mobile announces Erangel 20, partnership with The Walking Dead TV show

The finals of the PUBG Mobile Club Open recently concluded and developers of the game, Tencent, had some pretty interesting announcements to make during the event. Vincent Wang, General Manager of Global Publishing for Tencent Games, took the stage to announce that PUBG Mobile has over 400 million downloads and 15 million people are playing the game every day. He also announced that the Erangel map would be updated to Erangel 2.0.

Judging by the short clip shared during the tournament, it seems like it will feature better visuals. It showcases changes to popular locations, such as Yasnaya Polyana, Mylta Power, Prison, as well as the many forests that dot the map. However, there was a disclaimer at the bottom that read, “this is a promotional video and actual game footage may vary.” As such, you’ll have to wait and see how good the visuals of Erangel 2.0 will be. Wang did not give a date for when the updated map will be available to players but only said that it would come “very soon.” It should be noted that the PC version of the game has received the new Erangel map. The patch notes for the same detail all the changes, but it is not yet known if all of them will make it to mobile.

Besides Erangel 2.0, Wang also announced that, later this year, PUBG Mobile would partner with AMC’s popular TV show, The Walking Dead. Details as to how this partnership will manifest in the game is not yet known. It should be noted that PUBG Mobile partnered with Resident Evil to launch a new Zombie Mode. So maybe the developers will do something similar with The Walking Dead. With the recent Godzilla partnership, the developers added a Team Deathmatch mode, where teams of four battle it out to get the most number of kills.

You can watch the announcement below. Wang takes the stage at around the 1:05:00 mark.

Huawei Mate X not ready to hit market yet: Company executive

Huawei is still “optimizing/perfecting” the Mate X foldable phone and it cannot go public without meeting the quality requirements, He Gang, President, Huawei’s consumer business mobile phone product line, said. The executive said that the device was still in the process of optimisation because it involves new processes and new design methods, adding that the challenges that the company is facing are greater than what it envisaged. “Everyone should be very clear that Huawei’s quality requirements are very demanding. If it does not meet the quality requirements, we will not let the products go on the market,” Gang was quoted as saying.

The report comes at a time when several media reports have said that Samsung’s foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, is ready to hit the market. Samsung announced that it had made improvements in the foldable phone’s design and was now ready to ship it again to users. The price of the phone will remain the same as before in the US. It will retail for $1,980 (roughly Rs 1,36,000) and it will be up for purchase from September. The company even detailed what improvements it made to plug the faults.

To improve the design, the protective layer on top of the flexible display is now extended beyond the bezel so that it’s more apparent that it’s an integral part of the device. Furthermore, there are now new reinforcements to protect the screen from external particles. The top and bottom edge of the hinge now have added protection caps and there’s an additional layer of metal underneath the display while the space between the hinge and body has also been reduced. Samsung’s spokespersons in the Czech Republic and Slovakia also said that the Galaxy Fold had successfully passed all the necessary durability tests.

The Galaxy Fold was reportedly undergoing a redesign after early review units of the phone malfunctioned because of issues with a protective film on the screen. Samsung had to recall the review units. Since then, the launch of the Galaxy Fold has been postponed several times. Samsung Display Vice President Kim Seong-cheol revealed that the company had resolved “most” of the issues related to the Galaxy Fold phone, and that the device was ready for launch. “Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Galaxy Fold is ready to hit the market,” he said. Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, is the main supplier of the folding screen.

Vivo S1 India price leaked, could start at Rs 17,990

Vivo is set to launch the S-series smartphones in India, starting with the Vivo S1 on August 7. The smartphone has already been launched in the international markets. It was first launched in China, then the global variant was launched in the mid of July that varied a bit from the Chinese variant. However, ahead of the India launch, the price of Vivo S1 has been leaked. It seems like the Chinese manufacturer is aiming to take on the Realme X.

Vivo S1 India price leaked

According to indiashopps.com, the India pricing of Vivo S1 could start at Rs 17,990. The base variant will have 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The other two variants with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage could be priced at Rs 19,990 ad Rs 24,990 respectively. The phone was launched in Indonesia earlier this month for IDR 35,99,000 (approx Rs 17,650), so the leaked India price seems to be on par with the international price.

Vivo S1 specifications

The global variant of the Vivo S1 features a 6.38-inch (1080x2340 pixel resolution) Full HD+ Super AMOLED display alongside a waterdrop notch. The screen also has an in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone is powered by the Helio P65 mobile platform, paired with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. As for software, it runs Funtouch OS 9 based on Android 9 Pie.

On the optics front, the Vivo S1 sports a triple camera setup: a 16MP primary camera with an f/1.78 aperture lens, an 8MP secondary wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, and a tertiary 2MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture lens. It also has a 32MP front camera.

The Vivo S1 is packed with a 4500mAh battery. In Indonesia, the smartphone was launched in two colour variants, namely, Cosmic Green and Skyline Blue.

The company has also roped in Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan for the promotion of the upcoming S series.

Airtel reduces post-plan expiry incoming call validity to 7 days

If you are an Airtel prepaid customer, there is some not-so-exciting news for you. The telecom operator has reduced the incoming call validity for its prepaid customers who don't have an active plan from fifteen to seven days. To elaborate, if your current prepaid plan has expired, you could previously receive calls for up to 15 days without needing another recharge. That duration is now down to 7 days. This is being done by Airtel to improve the company's Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). According to Telecomtalk, the ARPU of Airtel is higher than that of Reliance Jio. It isn’t clear whether similar changes have been made by other telecom companies, like Vodafone Idea.

Back in 2018, both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea introduced a new scheme called ‘Minimum Recharge.’ In the Minimum Recharge scheme, a prepaid customer needed to recharge their service with a minimum of Rs 35 every month. This would enable them to make and receive voice calls. If a customer failed to make the recharge, outgoing calls were immediately barred but incoming calls were active for a period of 15 days. With the new changes, the plan has now changed and incoming calls will work for only 7 days after the expiry of a prepaid plan.

If you are looking to recharge your smartphone or are looking for a plan that gives you data and calling as per your needs and are confused about the right prepaid plan, then you needn't worry. We have a comparison that takes a look at all the popular plans on offer from various telecom providers from Rs 200 all the way up to Rs 500. You can check out our plan comparison here.
