Poco F2 to sport AMOLED display with waterdrop notch: Reports

For a while now, the Redmi K20 Pro (Review) has been hogging all the limelight owing to its affordability and flagship hardware -- the same reasons due to which the Poco F1 was seen as a hit last year. When Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi launched the Redmi K20 Pro in India, it was presumed that the Chinese firm would discontinue the Poco brand in the country and that there would be no Poco F2. However, media reports are now claiming that the brand will continue to make smartphones, and that the next phone, allegedly called the Poco F2, will sport an AMOLED panel with a waterdrop notch.

The first report comes from 91mobiles, which claims that the Xiaomi India told them that the Poco brand would not be discontinued in India. Xiaomi India Head of Marketing Anuj Sharma reportedly told the publication that the brand would continue to make smartphones, without confirming anything about the Poco F2. Sharma reportedly said that Poco is an independent brand and is operated separately.

“India Poco has its own team, it's not managed by Xiaomi India. Xiaomi manages Mi & Redmi series. Poco was made to remain independent. Poco uses Xiaomi's services like logistics, support etc. Poco has its own product strategy. Right now Poco is too small and their focus is still on Poco F1," he was quoted as saying.

The executive may have neither confirmed nor denied the development of the Poco 2 smartphone, but two leaks have suggested that the phone features an AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch. The first leak comes from a tipster on Twitter and the second was made public by SlashLeaks. An image of the screen guard that allegedly belongs to the Poco F2 was spotted by the latter. Further, the Poco F2 is presumed to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.

Google Pay v294 may have SafetyNet checker for Pixel 4 face authentication, Incognito Mode

Earlier this week, Google officially announced that the next generation of its Pixel phones, the Pixel 4, would have a face unlock feature that can be used to authenticate and make secure payments through mobile apps. In the latest development, it is now revealed that the company is working on a new version of Google Pay that will have built-in SafetyNet checker, a tool that will alert the user if their phone cannot be used for payments because it fails attestation. Also, version 2.94 of the payments app may have an Incognito Mode like some of its services already have.

SafetyNet checker

In an APK teardown of the Google Pay version 2.94, the folks at XDADevelopers found that the company had added a built-in SafetyNet checker. This means that in order to use Google Pay on Android, the user must pass several checks by the SafetyNet Attestation API in Google Play Services. Reportedly, these checks include checking for the presence of root binaries and evidence of system-level tampering, among others. If a phone is rooted, users won’t be able to make payments using the biometric authentication.

Incognito Mode

Google may be extending the Incognito Mode support to Google Pay app. The purpose of this is not known but Android Police reports that it could be done to hide the payments made on a card so they do not appear in the transaction history. It found the codes in an APK Teardown of the app, which suggest that the app will likely have a toggle to turn Incognito mode on and off. Currently, Google apps like Chrome, YouTube and Maps have Incognito Mode.

Recently, Google added an additional notification feature to help users transact securely. Google Pay app will now send app notifications as well as an SMS message to inform users about the direction of flow of money, that is, underscoring that they are sending money from their account when they approve a UPI collect request.
