Redmi TV 70 4K HDR TV launched, features a quad core processor and 16GB storage

The first Redmi branded TV was announced on Thursday in China and will be available for CNY 3,799 which translates to about Rs 38,000, directly converted. The TV will be available in one size only - 70-inches and there is no information whether the TV will be available outside China. The TV is simply called the Redmi TV 70. Coming to the features and specifications of the TV, it has a 70-inch screen size that supports 4K and HDR. The TV is powered by a quad-core 64-bit Amlogic SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The Redmi TV 70 runs on the company's PatchWall UI which is based on Android. All of Xiaomi’s TVs available in India run on PatchWall and the TVs currently available in India give consumers the option to run either on Stock Android TV or the PatchWall UI.

Coming back to the Redmi TV 70, the TV has dual-band Wi-Fi, and supports Bluetooth 4.2. For connectivity, the device has three HDMI ports, two USB ports, along with an AV input. The TV will also come with a Bluetooth enabled voice-controlled remote control. The Redmi TV 70 will go on sale in China from September 10. Pre-orders for the TV  began on August 29. It isn't clear whether the TV will be available internationally, but looking at the number of TV brands launching products in India, it is likely that the TV will hit Indian shores.

Speaking of Indian shores, we have a number of brands selling budget TVs such as Xiaomi, Metz, TCL, iFFALCON, Metz, Shinco and more. All these brands are sporting LED-backlit TVs with TCL venturing in the QLED space as well. When it comes to OLED TVs, only Sony and LG are selling OLED TVs in India. These, of course, sell for a premium. It looks like that is about to change. METZ is all set to launch its first OLED TV in India and we hope it breaks the Rs 1,00,000 entry barrier for an OLED TV.

Prepare for a triple treat as Apple confirms iPhone 11 launch date

Confirming the previous rumours and speculations, Apple has today, on August 29, sent out media invites for its annual iPhone event. The event will take place at Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California on September 10.

The invite sent out by Apple doesn’t give much away, however, the colours on the Apple logo are speculated to be the available colour options for the iPhone XR successor. While the tech giant might stick with the regular Black, Silver, and Gold colours for the iPhone 11 lineup, the iPhone XR successor could be available in as many as five colour options.

Previously, an asset was discovered within the iOS 13 beta, which suggested that Apple is looking to launch the iPhone 11 in the second week of September, which has now been confirmed.

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones, which could be powered by Apple’s latest A13 chipset and a new Taptic Engine, codenamed “leap haptics.” While not much is known about the new Taptic Engine as of now, it could replace 3D Touch on this year’s iPhones.

It is also tipped that the upcoming iPhone models will feature a triple rear camera setup. As reported earlier, the three cameras could come with a feature called “Smart Frame.” The feature would capture the area in pictures and videos around the frame so that the user can adjust the framing or perform automatic perspective and crop corrections in post.

Another rumour has it that the new 2019 iPhones might support bidirectional wireless charging. Other expected improvements include upgrades in battery life and Face ID biometric security.

Apple has rarely kept its launch events focused on just a single category of products. Hence, the tech giant is also rumoured to launch an all new 16-inch MacBook Pro alongside a new iPad, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch.

Indias first Apple Store could be set-up in Mumbai, direct online sales might commence soon

The Indian Central Government has relaxed a few rules that apply to foreign companies investing in India. In particular, the rule that a company needs to locally source 30 percent of its production if it wants to open retail stores in the country, has been dropped. In addition, the government now also allows foreign single-brand companies to sell their products online, even if they don’t have a brick-and-mortar store presence in the country. As per an ET report, Apple is planning to not only start selling iPhones online via its own website, but also launch its first Apple Store in Mumbai. Apple products are currently sold in India via various e-commerce retailers like Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm Mall and others.

“We love our customers in India and we’re eager to serve them online and in-store with the same experience and care that Apple customers around the world enjoy. We appreciate the support and hard work by Prime Minister Modi and his team to make this possible, and we look forward to one day welcoming customers to India’s first Apple retail store. ” Apple said in a media statement. "It will take us some time to get our plans under way, and we’ll have more to announce at a future date" the company adds. The report also says that the company’s online store could be up over the next 3-5 months since it requires duplicating Apple’s online store template for the Indian market.

Even though the move by the Indian government is likely to work in Apple’s benefit, it will have to compete with the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi in terms of offline presence. Xiaomi already has a strong offline presence in India with over 6000 offline retail outlets that are divided into Mi Homes, Mi Preferred Partners and Mi Stores. The company recently said that it is eyeing to open more than 10,000 retail stores across these four offline channels by the end of 2019.
