Chandrayaan-2 will soon perform a lunar landing, watch live stream here

After performing a successful fifth and final lunar orbital manoeuvre, Chandrayaan-2 is all set to land on the surface of Moon. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be the first space agency to soft-land on the Moon’s South Polar Region. As of September 6, the lunar lander Vikram has separated from the spacecraft and entered an independent orbit around the Moon. ISRO has informed the public that Vikram lander’s tentative touchdown is scheduled between 1:30 am to 2:30AM on September 7.

ISRO will study the surroundings and wait for the lunar dust to settle before the Pragyan rover rolls out from the Vikram Lander, at around 6AM. The Vikram lander and Pragyan rover are expected to uncover the mysteries of the South Polar region of the Moon. You can watch the live stream here:

ISRO Chairman K Sivan termed the soft-landing as “15 terrifying minutes.” Vikram will land 71 degrees south of Moon's equator and 32.8 degrees east. It will land between two craters: Manzinus C and Simpelius N on the South Pole. Interestingly, these craters have been untouched by sunlight for billions of years. Hence, these craters are cold and expected to contain fossils of the early Solar System. They could also provide important information that would help astronomers unlock the key in solving the question of how our solar system was formed.

Moreover, ISRO believes that the Lunar South Pole holds nearly 100 million tons of water. Moreover, Moon's South Pole has permanently shadowed craters, and the water is in the form of ice there. Apart from water, other minerals are also believed to present there. The Moon’s regolith has a layer of unconsolidated solid material that is covering its bedrock that has traces of methane, sodium, mercury, hydrogen, ammonia, and silver that makes the South Pole an untapped source of essential resources.

OnePlus TV to support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

The launch of the OnePlus TV is just around the corner and apart from rumours and speculations, we have seen some official information about the upcoming OnePlus TV. The newest addition to the official information is the fact that the OnePlus TV will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Vision is Dolby’s HDR standard and Dolby Atmos is the company’s object-based surround sound. How Dolby Atmos works on the TV is something we will have to see. As for Dolby Vision, it is nice to see the TV support the technology as only flagship TVs have Dolby Vision in India. Samsung TVs don't support Dolby Vision.

Commenting on the association, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India, said, "As we expand into the Smart TV space, this collaboration with Dolby will give our users an unparalleled cinematic experience in the comfort of their homes. We intend to give our community one of the best technologies available in the industry, be it software or hardware. Dolby is a pioneer in the industry when it comes to sound and imaging and we’re confident that this collaboration will set new global benchmarks and pave the way for many more technological innovations."

“Dolby has always been at the forefront of innovation in delivering spectacular entertainment experiences. Our collaboration with OnePlus will enable us to deliver amazing realism with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to many more living rooms in India, said Pankaj Kedia, Managing Director, Emerging Markets, Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby Atmos, in particular, is now well established in India and with our growing work with streaming services, we can now bring more lifelike experiences in both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision to the Indian consumers through the OnePlus TV.”

In other OnePlus TV news, OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau tweeted an image of the remote control one will use to navigate the OnePlus TV. The remote control looks minimalistic and very reminiscent of the Apple TV remote control. It has a Type-C port at the bottom which means you can recharge the remote and don't need to hunt for batteries at 2AM. It has a volume rocker on the side and the top of the face is dominated by directional buttons with an OK button in the middle. The remote control also has a back, home assistant, OnePlus and a menu button. There is also a mysterious black button which could be intentionally hidden. It could also be a programmable button to launch a user's favourite app.

The OnePlus TV is also confirmed to have 8 speakers - 50W of sound output which is interesting. We have seen a multi-speaker setup in TVs in the past and very few have impressed us.

Google Pixel 4 spotted in live video, confirmed to sport 90Hz display

With only a few weeks left to the official launch of Google's new flagship smartphone, we're beginning to see all sorts of leaks regarding the Google Pixel 4. In a rather significant leak, the actual Pixel 4 device has been shown in all its glory without any cases or covers. As confirmed by Google back in June, the Pixel 4 sports a quad-camera setup on its glass back panel. What's more, the Pixel 4 is now confirmed to ship with a 90Hz display, which puts it in the same league as the OnePlus 7 Pro and Nubia Red Magic 3.

The latest Pixel 4 leak comes in the form of a short video clip posted on Facebook by Malysian electronics retailer Halo Mobile (later re-shared by Slashleaks). In the video, we see a smartphone with a tall display and narrow bezels. The screen is curved around the edges but contains no notches for the selfie camera. The device in the clip first shows the bootloader prompt but quickly switches to the white Pixel boot screen. We also see a glowing power button on the phone's right side, which means Google has gone the Nokia way and included a notification light within the power button.

As the phone is turned around in the video clip, we get our first look at the Pixel 4's back panel, which appears to be made of glass. The Pixel 4 could well support Qi wireless charging then, like its predecessor. Also seen is the quad-camera setup, which Google confirmed back in June. On the bottom, we see a USB Type-C port sitting between two speaker grilles, which indicates the presence of stereo audio output. Even though the device shown in the video appears to be the upcoming Pixel 4 device, we suggest you take everything you see before the official launch with a pinch of salt.

In related news, the Google Pixel 4 has been confirmed to come with a 90Hz display panel. In a source code teardown of Android 10 done by XDA Developers, it was revealed recently that the device has an option to refresh the screen at 90Hz. At the moment, only a couple of smartphones in India ship with a 90Hz panel, namely the OnePlus 7 Pro and Nubia Red Magic 3. We expect to learn more about the upcoming Google Pixel 4 in the weeks leading up to the official launch in October.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau reveals OnePlus TV remote with Google Assistant button, USB Type-C port

OnePlus is gearing up to launch an Android-powered TV this month in India and it is revealing more information about the upcoming product in bits and pieces. Just recently, the company announced that its upcoming TV is an Android-powered device and that it features a custom Gamma Color Magic processor. Now, the company’s co-founder Pete Lau has tweeted an image of the OnePlus TV remote and as always, we will detail what’s on the surface and what’s subtly hidden. Starting with the remote’s design, it seems to be fairly slim and its form factor is similar to most modern television remotes.

There are five distinct buttons on the top, along with what looks like a four-way D-pad with a button in the middle. The D-pad may be used for navigation and there’s a chance that it could be touch-sensitive and act similar to older Apple iPods that had a click wheel mechanism. The button in the middle is most likely the standard selection button. On the right edge of the remote are what look like volume buttons but since Lau didn’t reveal anything, we are speculating about the device’s features right now.

Take a closer look. The power is in your hand! #OnePlusTV pic.twitter.com/TL5ymlOWIz

— Pete Lau (@PeteLau) September 6, 2019

As for the five buttons on top, one of them sports a OnePlus logo. This button could be used to directly navigate to OnePlus’ new OxygenOS UI for the OnePlus TV. Below this is a dedicated Google Assistant button that calls up the digital assistant to help you with your queries like opening an app or performing a voice search for content, which the remote might support. Immediately below is a button with the hamburger menu, which might be the button to bring up the menu or options on a screen. There’s also a back button and a home button. The remote is likely to pair with the OnePlus TV via Bluetooth and previously, a Bluetooth remote was certified by the Bluetooth SIG.

One of the buttons has no logo and is blank. While there's no info on what the function of this key is, it could just be a reprogrammable button. This would make a lot of sense since OnePlus has always been about giving more controls and utility to its users. Most modern remotes aren’t equipped with a mute button, which can be annoying at times. This, and many other, problems could be solved by enabling users to re-map a button to the function of their liking.

Finally, one can spot that the remote features a USB Type-C port on the bottom. Type-C charging is a notable addition to a TV remote but it does have its shortcomings. Imaging that the remote’s battery dies while you are navigating around the UI. You will then need to charge the remote and wait for some time to be able to use it again. While this is not a huge issue, OnePlus might introduce Warp Charge standard for the remote, as it did with the OnePlus Bullets Wireless earphones. Again, we suggest that you take our speculation lightly since no features of the remote have been officially confirmed yet.

You can read our rumour roundup about the upcoming OnePlus TV here.
