Google is tweaking its algorithm to highlight original reporting

Google is changing its search algorithms again and they will now focus more on “original reporting.” In a blog post, the company has detailed how it has made ranking changes to its algorithm in order to highlight original reporting so that such articles would stay visible for a longer period of time. While this new change should be fruitful for journalists who devote time and energy investigating their topics and putting together their articles, one can never be too sure with Google’s algorithms. The company admits that there’s no set definition to describe reporting and thus, its services will keep learning and improving over time to understand the life cycle of a story.

Google’s algorithms go through tons of content that’s published online everyday and the algorithms are said to be made up of numerous unique signals that are said to constantly update and improve. However, Google has over 10,000 raters around the world that contribute to tune the company’s algorithm, help understand the authoritativeness of web pages. Their suggestions and reviews are said to not affect the ranking of specific results they see but it’s apparently applied to improve and assess algorithms to all search results.

“While we typically show the latest and most comprehensive version of a story in news results, we've made changes to our products globally to highlight articles that we identify as significant original reporting. Such articles may stay in a highly visible position longer. This prominence allows users to view the original reporting while also looking at more recent articles alongside it,” Google says in its blog post.

Huawei phone with Android 10, Kirin 990 spotted on Geekbench

A mysterious Huawei phone has popped up on Geekbench. The phone has the model number NLE-AL00. The reported smartphone sports a Kirin 990 chipset that was announced at the IFA 2019 tech trade show. However, the chipset comes in 4G and 5G variants. It is also touted to power artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities on next-generation Huawei phones. The phone also appears to run Android 10.

The Huawei NLE-AL00 has reportedly received a single-core score of 3,842 and 11.644 multi-core score. As per the listing, the mysterious phone was spotted running Android 10 and it comes with 8GB RAM. Huawei hasn’t made any confirmations around the smartphone.

Huawei is all set to launch the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro on September 19. The Mate 30 series is tipped to be powered by the Kirin 990 chipset, Huawei Mate 30 Pro is expected to feature the same quad rear camera setup that is used on the P30 Pro. The P30 Pro features a 40MP primary sensor that has an f/1.6 aperture lens.

A previous report suggests that Huawei Mate 30 Pro may sport two custom-made 40MP cameras on the back, instead of just one. The handset is most likely to use the company’s patented RYYB pixel layout.

Mate 30 series is also expected to ship with ultra-fast 25W wireless charging support. Right now, only Samsung Galaxy Note10 series can wirelessly fast charge at more than 15W, which would make Mate 30 series the world’s fastest wireless charging smartphones. However, it is just a rumour at this point.

Moreover, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro is expected to come with a curvier screen than the Mate 30. Previous leaks have revealed the presence of a wide notch that may house all kinds of sensors for 3D face unlock, front camera, and more.
