Google Pixel 4 high-quality render appears online

Unless you have been living under a rock, you must have come across the various leaks of the Pixel 4. The Pixel 4 is, without a doubt, one of the most leaked smartphones of 2019. From the phones’ camera app to a hands-on video, there’s almost everything out there about the Pixel 4 lineup except for the pricing and availability. Now, a new high-quality render of the Google Pixel 4 has also appeared online.

Popular tipster, Evan Blass has revealed a new render of the purported Google Pixel 4. This is our clearest look at the upcoming device yet. The large forehead and a relatively thin chin can be seen clearly. The front camera can also be spotted. In contrast, the back of the phone holds no surprises as Google revealed the rear camera module design in one of its teasers.

The front camera seems to be in the notch for Soli gestures. Google will be integrating the Soli Radar chip on the Pixel 4 series to track a user’s hand gestures and execute a task that’s assigned to that particular gesture. Interestingly, one of the recent leaks claims that Google’s motion-sensing technology will not work in India. The leaked list of 53 regions that support Motion Sense does not include India.

The Pixel 4 is tipped to feature a 5.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display, whereas the Pixel 4 XL is said to sport a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ OLED display. Both phones are said to sport a 90Hz display. The smartphones are expected to be powered by the  Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. They ccould come with 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.

In the optics department, the Pixel 4 lineup is expected to sport a dual rear camera setup: a 12MP shooter with phase-detect auto-focus + a 16MP telephoto lens. The phones are said to have a camera app with improved algorithms for Night Sight, Motion mode, new UI, and more.

Google is set to launch the Pixel 4 on October 15.

Google Personal Safety app with car crash detection feature spotted online

In the days leading up to the launch of Google's upcoming flagship smartphone, we've seen a lot of leaks and reports regarding the Google Pixel 4. In what we believe is yet another related leak, a new app from Google called Personal Safety was spotted on the Google Play Store by XDA Developers yesterday. Though the page has since been taken down, a leaked description of the app suggests the app can detect car crashes in the US and call for help automatically.

According to the report filed by XDA Developers, the new Personal Safety app is essentially the inbuilt Emergency Information feature found in existing Pixel devices renamed in the version ‘1.0.271601625.release’. If you own a Pixel device, you should be able to find this section within Settings. It allows sharing of one's current location with their trusted contacts. It's unclear at the moment if the new Personal Safety app (with its car crash detection feature) will be available on all Pixel devices or be exclusive to the upcoming Pixel 4.

The leaked screenshots show us how the app's car crash feature is designed to work when enabled. If the phone detects a crash while the user is on the road and moving (using the device's location, microphones, and sensors), it will sound an alarm, vibrate, and bring up a timed prompt to ask the user if they have been in a crash. Selecting ‘I'm OK’ will dismiss the prompt. Tapping the ‘911’ option twice will dial emergency services. Ignoring the prompt will do the same. During the call, the user needn't talk to the operator.

Sadly, the car crash detection feature in the Personal Safety app is limited to users in the US—at least for now. For smartphone users who reside outside the US, Google has a similar safety app called Trusted Contacts. Launched in late 2016, the app allows the user to assign emergency contacts, who, at any time, can request the user's current location and device activity status. You can download Trusted Contacts for Android here and for iOS devices here.

Microsoft will be hosting a launch event tomorrow, on October 2. The company is expected to release the 2019 Surfaces devices. He has posted a series of images on his Twitter account, which gives us a look at Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop (both 13-inch and 15-inch), and an ARM-powered Surface device. Blass has also mentioned the presence of a dual-screen Surface in one of his tweets.

Microsoft is expected to announce the Surface Laptop 3, Surface Pro 7, and an ARM-powered Surface 2-in-1 device. Surface Laptop 3  is speculated to be launched with a spec bump. On the hardware front, seems to sport the same design as its predecessor. The images haven’t given out a lot of information about the number of ports available on the Surface Laptop 3. However, it is expected to include a USB-C port.

Surface Pro 7 Prakhar Khanna

Coming to the Surface Pro 7, it looks like the device will sport a USB-C port instead of the Mini DisplayPort this time around. Surface fans have been requesting this inclusion for a long time. Surface Pro 7 is rumoured to be powered by the Intel 10th Gen processors. In the hardware department, it looks like it will have the same design as the Pro 6.

ARM-powered Surface Prakhar Khanna

A new device is tipped to join the Surface family. An ARM-powered Surface 2-in-1 has appeared in images. It has a sleek design, with narrower bezels than the current Surface Pro 6. It seems to have a rounder and thinner chassis. A new Surface Pen can also be spotted in the leaked image. It seems to have a flat design on two sides.

Interestingly, Blass didn’t mention a Surface Book 3 in any of his tweets. Microsoft may not be planning to upgrade the higher end 2-in-1. On the other hand, Microsoft could also tease the Centaurus at the event tomorrow - a dual-screen foldable tablet/laptop.

India missing from leaked list of countries where Google Pixel 4s Motion Sense capabilities may work

One of the officially outed ipieces of nformation about the upcoming Google Pixel 4 is that the handset will support motion gestures. The company will be integrating the Soli Radar chip on the Pixel 4 series of phones so that they can track a user’s hand gestures and execute a task that’s assigned to that particular gesture. While we previously came across a report that claimed this feature would work only in select countries, 9to5Google claims that it was able to get its hands on a pre-release APK of Motion Sense, which reveals 38 regions and 9 media apps could support the feature.

Soon after, XDA Developers also reported of finding a more comprehensive list of countries where the option could be made available. This list reveals 53 regions and 23 media apps that support Motion Sense. While some countries like Canada, UK, Australia and the US are present on the list, India is surprisingly missing. However, the list of 23 media apps that will support Motion Sense includes apps like Wynk Music, Gaana, Hungama, and JioSaavn among others. These apps are widely used in India and the inclusion of these apps suggests that the company might be planning to bring Motion Sense support for the Pixel 4 handsets that would be sold in India.

As for the new Soli Radar chip Google is using on its Pixel 4 series of phones, ášhe hardware enables one to use gestures for conášroling the device’s functions. Skipping tracks while listening to music, accepting or rejecting calls and snoozing alarms by simply waving your hand over the device. The sensor is said to be capable of detecting sub-millimeter motion gestures at high speeds and that too, with notable accuracy.

Coming to the Pixel phones, the Pixel 4 will reportedly feature a 5.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display while the Pixel 4 XL might get a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ OLED display. The handsets might support 90Hz display refresh rate that Google is reportedly dubbing “Smooth Display". The phones are expected to run on Snapdragon 855+ SoC and might come equipped with 6GB RAM.
