Justdial patches security flaw that exposed sensitive data of over 156 million accounts

In the world of constant data leaks and breaches, you can now add one more company to the list. A critical security flaw was found on Justdial, which could enable attackers to access sensitive account information of 156.1 million users on the platform. Justdial has now patched the flaw but we suggest you change your account password right away, in case you use the platform. The issue reportedly stemmed from Justdial’s Register API that would enable an attacker to get access into any Justdial account by using a phone number in the username parameter. The flaw was reported by the security researcher Ehraz Ahmed, via MoneyControl.

As per the report, the Register API vulnerability could enable hackers to access anyone’s Justdial account. This would be done by replacing the phone number under the username parameter so that the system returns an access token, system ID (SID) and user ID (UID). The SID would then be used to access the account and another accounts linked to it while the UID enabled posting on the user’s Justdial Social Profile. The worrying bit is that accessing a Justdial account also gives access to the Justdial Pay account and its settings can be changed to redirect funds to another bank account. However, transferring existing funds to another account is not possible since an account or UPI pin is required to confirm the transaction.

The security researcher also mentions that hackers and telemarketers can mine Justdial data by using a script and phone number dumps found online. You can see how Ahmed exploited the flaw to gain access to a Justdial account from the video above. As mentioned above, Justdial patched the flaw and sent out a statement to the media that reads, “We at Justdial take security seriously. There was a bug in one of our API which could potentially be accessed by an expert hacker. This bug has been fixed. We work with various security researchers to strengthen our platform and would like to thank Ehraz Ahmed for bringing this out to us.”

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, Watch 4G, Watch Active 2 launched in India

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab S6 along with two new smart wearables in India. The wearables include the Galaxy Watch 4G and Galaxy Watch Active 2. Sold with an optional keyboard case, the Galaxy Tab S6 is pitched as a replacement for the laptop and more as a competitor to Apple’s iPad Pro. The new range of Samsung devices will go on sale from October 11, right on time for you to make that grand Diwali purchase.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6

Let’s start with the Galaxy Tab S6 first. It’s Samsung’s most powerful tablet till date; it features the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (there’s expandable storage as well). Note that India does not get the 8GB+256GB variant. Previously, Samsung refrained from putting a Qualcomm chip in its high-end tablets and instead chose to go with its own Exynos processors. The switch to the flagship Qualcomm SoC should see a generous spike in performance. The performance is also necessary considering what the tablet is meant for.

You can attach the optional keyboard case (sold separately) to the tablet and use it like a convertible laptop. You also get a Samsung S-Pen along with the tablet. When not in use, you can keep the S-Pen attached magnetically to the metallic rear panel, which automatically starts charging the stylus. The S-Pen can distinguish between 4096 different pressure levels. There’s an optical in-display fingerprint sensor as well. Samsung says the S-Pen can work for up to 10 hours with just ten minutes of charging.

Samsung has also enabled the DeX mode on the Galaxy Tab S6. There’s a dedicated key on the keyboard for DeX access and a touchpad to simulate a PC-like experience. You can also connect a display using an HDMI cable (through USB Type-C of course).

Galaxy Tab S6

The Galaxy Tab S6 sports a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution and Samsung has optimised the UI to make good use of the large panel. In addition, there’s an improved split screen view, which allows you to choose the size of the window.

It’s also the first time that Samsung’s flagship tablet gets a dual camera at the back. There’s a 13MP primary camera along with a 5MP ultra-wide camera. Both cameras are reinforced with Samsung’s AI imaging algorithms. On the front, you get an 8MP selfie camera.

The Galaxy Tab S6 runs on a 7040mAh battery that Samsung claims can last for 15 hours of video playback. The Tab S6 comes with LTE connectivity promising downlink speeds of up to 2Gbps theoretically.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G, Galaxy Watch Active 2

While the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G retains the circular ring seen on the previous model, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 goes in for a touch-sensitive haptic bezel. In other words, there's no physical dial but the function still works the same way using touch. As a result, the watch’s display now covers the entire body giving you more space to see your stuff.

On the Galaxy Watch 4G, you get the option to connect to the internet and make calls using LTE with the help of an e-SIM. It is available in two sizes: 46mm and 42mm. The Galaxy Watch Active 2, on the other hand, is offered in only one size: 44m. However, you can choose between aluminium and stainless steel materials, both of which are offered in multiple colours.

Galaxy Watch 4G

The circular display on the Watch Active 2 measures 1.4-inches and is a Super AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass DX+ on top for protection. The display is always on. Inside it, there’s an Exynos 9110 Dual Core SoC clocked at 1.15GHz and a 340mAh battery. The Watch Active 2 runs on the Tizen Wearable OS 4.0.

There’s an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, heart-rate sensor and ambient light sensor in the watch. The wearable is also IP68-rated water and dust resistant and has passed MIL-STD 810G standards for durability. As for the Galaxy Watch 4G, it comes with e-SIM support.

Galaxy Watch Active 2

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy Tab S6 and the two wearables are already up for pre-orders and will be available from October 11 from Samsung Store, Flipkart and Amazon.in. Available in Mountain Gray and Cloud Blue colours, the Galaxy Tab S6 costs Rs 59,900 and comes with cashback offers worth up to Rs 5,000 for HDFC Bank customers. The optional keyboard cover, which normally retails for Rs 10,999 is currently selling for Rs 5,499 along with a six-month trial to YouTube Premium.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 comes in Stainless Steel and Aluminum materials and are priced at Rs 31,990 and Rs 26,990 respectively. Similarly, the 46mm Galaxy Watch 4G with LTE connectivity is priced at Rs 30,990 while the 42mm is priced at Rs 28,490.

PlayStation 5 to be launched holiday season 2020, new controller updates and more

It’s been almost six years since the launch of the PlayStation 4. Judging by the life cycle of most modern consoles, a 7-year average begins to emerge. So we can safely assume that the Sony PlayStation 5 could be coming out next year, right? Well, Sony has just announced the launch of the PlayStation 5 and it’s just as predicted. The console will ship ‘Holidays 2020’. So you better start saving up as soon as possible.

Sony also announced a bunch of updates to the DualShock controllers as well. The company will be replacing current rumble tech with a more advanced version. The controller will ship with haptic feedback technology. What this means is that there will be a wider range of feedback when it comes to the rumble feature. Could it function like the Nintendo Switch’s Joy Con’s, with their HD rumble feature? We won’t really know the answer until we have the system in our hands.

Anohter change to the controllers will the addition of pressure sensitive triggers or ‘active triggers’ on the controllers. Again, this may sound confusing but it’s rather simple. This feature will be implemented in the controller’s L2/R2 triggers, thus giving these triggers increased sensitivity when performing actions such as drawing a bow or even pulling the trigger of whichever weapon you’re carrying. Sony also says that developers will be able to program the resistance of the triggers as per the requirements of a game. It remains to be seen how this feature will function, but it looks like Sony is taking all the right steps.

A few other details were also released such as the fact that the GPU on the PlayStation 5 will feature ray-tracing options as well. It was first reported that Sony were going to use software to replicate ray-tracing on the PlayStation 5 but now the company says that ray tracing will be a hardware feature, not a software solution. The PlayStation 5 will also use 100Gb Blue-ray discs, but users will still have to install their games onto the SSD on the PlayStation 5. There was a presentation a few months ago wherein loading speeds in the new Spiderman game were significantly shorter than the PlayStation 4. Sony will also allow developer to prioritize which parts of the game they want installed. For example, if you’re only playing multi-player, then the installation will only consist of the multi-player portion of the game and nothing else.

Sony also revealed that the company will be revamping its User Interface on the PlayStation 5. Sony says that you’ll be able to see (and launch directly into) specific features of a game, like a single-player level or multiplayer match, directly from the home screen, instead of first having to launch the game and then navigate in. You will be able access particular features of a game such as jumping into a single-player game right from the launch screen itself. No more navigating a game to get to the juicy bits, you’ll now be able to jump straight into the portion of the game you wanted without any other hassles.

As of now, we do know that Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 5 will come with a CPU that is based on AMD’s third-gen Ryzen range as well as a GPU based on AMD’s Radeon Navi. It will also come with support for 8K video as well as PS4 backwards compatibility and an ultra-fast SSD. As of now, without any other info to go on, we can only speculate as to what the PS5 will look like. We probably won’t be getting a look at the design of the console any time soon but maybe we’ll get lucky at early next year.

Reliance Jio will charge 6 paise per minute to call rival telco users: All you need to know

Reliance Jio will now levy a charge of six paise per minute everytime a call is placed to someone on a rival network operator. While this goes against the “Jio Promise” of providing free voice calls to users across India, the company will off-set it with free data. The new announcement comes after TRAI is reconsidering extending the deadline for terminating Interconnection Usage Charges (IUC), that are levied when a user calls someone on another network (off-net calls). IUC charges were previously reduced from 14 paise to 6 paise per minute and the charges are slated to be zero from January 1, 2020.

Jio's explaination

Jio sent out a press release explaining why it needs to suddenly charge its customers for voice calls. As per the release, Jio was paying IUC charges from its own pockets to other telcos like Airtel and Vodafone-Idea to offer free voice calling to its consumers. In the last three years, the telco has apparently paid around Rs 13,500 crores as NET IUC charges to other operators. Jio also says that while other telcos are reducing voice tariffs for 4G consumers, their 2G customers are bearing the brunt by being exorbitantly charged for voice calls. Jio network is said to receive 25 to 30 crore missed calls daily by 2G Airtel and Vodafone-Idea consumers, which converts to callbacks from Jio users for which the company has to pay the IUC charges.

IUC vouchers for Jio users

Jio will not charge users for voice calls made to other users on its own network, incoming calls, landline calls and calls made using apps like WhatsApp and other apps. However, prepaid Jio users will now need to buy IUC top-up vouchers with which they will get IUC minutes and free data. There’s Rs 10, and Rs 20 IUC top-up vouchers that will credit 124 and 249 minutes of IUC minutes, along with 1GB and 2GB of data respectively. There are also Rs 50 and Rs 100 vouchers for 656 and 1,362 minutes of IUC minutes and 5GB and 10GB free data respectively.

Postpaid Jio consumers will be billed six paise per minute for off-net outgoing calls. Jio will off-set the charges by increasing the free data being offered to them. As for the IUC charge, it is supposed to be reduced to zero by January 1, 2020.
